I was trying to install a new kernel so I could overclock, and I could not get it into recovery mode. I tried the normal, turn off+hold volume down key+turn on, method. I also used the boot into recovery mode option from CWM (Acer Recovery)
I thought it may have something to do with my other software issues causing issue, so I did a master reset. It got everything back to normal, reloaded my info and backed up info, and installed rootcheck (which confirmed root and busybox) and superuser, and CWM, and have the kernel on my sd card. I tried booting into recovery mode again and it wont work
The error I get is the little tranlucent android dude with the gears rolling and then suddenly the gears stop and I get the warning sign, yellow triangle with exclamation mark.
Anyone know why this may be?

Which kernal are you trying to install? Are you installing via cwm? What version are you running? Are you holding vol-key until after the Acer logo shows up and then keeping the vol rocker held until you see "booting recovery..."?
Have you successfully booted into recovery in the past?
thanks for the response. It seems the recovery image was corrupted or unknown according to cwm. i had to install the cwm one and it works just fine.
Great

Glad you got it working
Installing Acer recovery installer does not install cwm. You have to select cwm from the list and click install recovery. Sounds like you figured it out, though.

I also have a new A500 which already had 3.2 stock installed and it has never allowed me to go into recovery mode. I can use iconiaroot and get to a certain point with that but to install a custom rom, I haven't been able to. I want to so any ideas? I did however get to install the Acer_A501_0.017.01_PA_ATT which is about as much progress as I have got. My thought was to downgrade first then install a custom rom like Taboonay but I can't get into recovery. Please help.

Why are you trying to get into recovery? What is it you are actually trying to do? If you are stock, then getting into recovery has little value, so it would help if we know what you're actually trying to do?
TD
Why recovery
I am trying to install Taboonay. The way I see it from peoples post is that with a stock 3.2 the only way to install Taboonay is to be able to go into recovery. Do you have a better solution? Or anyone? There is alot of information out there. It's hard to sort through it sometime.

I now know that recovery is locked by the system and one has to change the update.zip file. Right?

In order to flash a custom rom, you need to flash a custom recovery (in this case cwm) flashing custom roms with the stock Acer recovery isn't possible without out the update.zip being signed by acer.

Read through these forms and you'll get the information you need. But, before you can install a custom ROM you need to root(#) your device first. Once you get root then you have to install CWM which is a custom recovery. The Stock Recovery that comes installed will ONLY install updates signed by ACER therefore it is worthless. That's why you need something like CWM.
Hope this helps,
TD

You seem to have read through a bit of info skipping the main and most important parts. If you don't follow instructions TO THE LETTER your next post will be along the lines of "Help, I've bricked my A50*"....
Yes, thank you for replying, but no thanks. If your on here to help people, then help them. Learn some help desk manners.
If your on here to show your knowledge, then you have failed. The whole point of Linux is to help and contribute to a better os then what's available through retail. Careful or the point will get lost in translations.

Hello everyone,
Today I bought an used Samsung Galaxy Spica from a friend as a backup phone for my HTC One X. It had Android 1.5 installed so i tried to update it to Android 2.1. I tried to update it with KIES or PC Studio, but it both failed. I still dont know why.
So I searched on the web and found out that you could update it with ODIN.
So I used this tutorial with the included files. http://www.greaky.com/2010/02/samsu...02/samsung-i5700-galaxy-spica-android-21.html
But when it reboots I get a image of a phone with a exclamation. I also tried the Flash 1, Flash 2 and Flash 3 method, but in the end when it reboots it gets stuck at the samsung screen with a filled bar.
What am I doing wrong guys?
Suckup SpiceGenMod RC1
Have you been here yet?
Search on google for suckup.de and samdroid and you'll get there.
Tends to be the most stable ROM and also the best guide on how to get a good stock version in plus then root and install the ROM itself.
Otherwise the forum for Spica is over at samdroid.net
---------- Post added at 05:09 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:53 PM ----------
btw, if you still get stuck at the bar after resetting then let me know.
It could be extra kernel files or similar causing the boot problem or any manner of things but if you can get to recovery then try doing a wipe of everything from the main menu plus the advanced menu... Otherwise reset back to stock via Odin, but make sure you use the right one for your region, then root, then install a ROM.
And don't forget to sipe caches and dalvik AFTER installing the ROM!

can anyone help us?
That normally means the kernel can't boot the OS.
I normally go into recovery, advanced then wipe dalvik-cache and battery stats then back to main menu and wipe cache then reboot again.

Or, phone with exclamation is normally download mode. Have you tried using Odin with the spica settings file to re-flash a stock firmware to reset? Then root it agian and ROM it after that? ie start from scratch with 2.1/2.2 and ditch 1.5 all together?
Hello! I'm new here, but, as an Asus TF101G's owner (from september 2011), I've always take a look at this forum to stay update on the newest custom roms!
Unfortunately, I've got a big problem.
2 week ago, tired of the stock rom, I've installed CyanogenMod 10 B2 By Rayman and all went good.
Yesterday, I've tried to install the latest update, version B4, but I cant install it at all.
Infact when I tried to wipe all data from CWM recovery 6.0.13 menu, it crashed and stuck. Also when I try to mount from my sdcard stock asus firmware or a custom firmware, it says "E:cant mount sdcard".
I've tried all methods to flash at least the stock firmware, but with no results..Easyflasher (doesnt work with tf101g), BR Rootkit vers. 8.0 (successfull installed driver and correctly goes in apx mode, but crashes when try to flash a firmware), 1-Click Transformer Root (stuck on installing drivers), peri 0.4 (seems not working)...
The tablet remain stucked at EeePad logo and the only think I can do is to enter in CWM recovery, but I can't mount SDcard nor Usb, and all wipe commands aren't working.
Is there's anything I can do? or I have to send to RMA?
p.s. I've already tried to format the sdcard from windows, but nothing changed.
Try this step from this website Reverting to Stock ROM (unroot and remove CWM recovery)

I dont think that ASUS will approve RMA with that CWM and stucked custom rom.
What is that the wipe commands are not working? Is there any error message?

I guess so.. Im doing the same thing, but I think Ive got better chance than you luckily stucked with ASUS ROM
Hi,
I'm concerned about the possibility of briking my tablet reading your posts
So, based on your experience, what do you think are the facts/actions/bad practices can brick TF101? Is there any recommendations to avoid brick? I think this would be very useful for beginners like me :highfive:
It would be nice to have 2 list:
What you should never do:
- Sit on it
...
What you can do with relative low risk:
- Hold it on your hands.
...
Thanks!

I also got a brick at T101G (B90) :crying:
I only available APX interface, nvflash does not help.
Hi there,
I really hope I haven't ruined my son's Galaxy Y.
I've followed all the instructions from several different threads and have just "flashed" an new rom (Cyanogenmod 7) onto it and I'm now sitting here with it switched on but only the front screen (saying Samsung Galaxy). It's been like it for 10 minutes. Should it take this long??
Feeling a bit sick that I've ruined his phone for him rather than making it better.

original reason for trying to do this was because the internal memory on this phone is awfully low. I was going to try to allocate some of the sdcard to it.
Having never done anything like this before I've had to read through lots of different threads to try to feel confident enough to try.

did you convert your system to ext and install the common kernel for cm7?
if you just flashed the rom it wont boot without doing the above
cyanogenmod roms (cm7/9/10/11 etc) require you to be on an ext system partition
stock roms use rfs partition so you need to convert your system partition to ext
you also need a kernel that can boot ext partitions (stock kernel can only boot rfs)
therefore you also need to flash Bieltv.3 kernel
my instructions for installing cm7 are

and the meta-inf folder mentioned you can download from

Question on installing
I really haven't much with this phone since I got it. The whole locked bootloader kind of threw me off. With that being said I want to get in and try this Lollipop goodness.
I'm currently on 4.4.2.
I have safestrap installed. (making full back up now)
I haven't really used safestrap on any of my phones. Do I need to install this Rom in one of the custom slots? I'm getting confused at step 7 of this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development/vzwstock-based-tw-rom-t3024731
I do plan on doing a full wipe of my phone, SDcard data and all.
In short what is the best way to go from an older 4.4.2 to 5.0?
Just trying to ask the questions I have before I get the "zOMG my phone is broken and doesn't turn on" stuff.
Thank you.
On Lollipop, no root. Can I install?
I have taken the OTA to Lollipop on Verizon. I have no root and no SafeStrap. Any other way for me to install this ROM?

I get a little confused with the steps and terms between Roms,Kernals,Firmware.
Do I need to do a full downgrade to 4.4.4 with root, then use safestrap or is there a method with just using odin?
I had upgraded to this mod with on my phone that was on 4.4.4 using 3 steps
1. Booted into Safestrape (wiped everything but sd card)
2. Flashed the rom in the first page
3. immediately went into odian and flashed the kernal from the other thread

Yes both SHealth and Hear rate apps are installed and I can verify they work.

I ended up Odin back to NK2. Let it boot up and then run thru setup.
Rebooted to Odin mode and install NCG kernel.
Boot up and install towelroot
Make it rain
Install busy box
Install safe strap
Install safe strap recovery
Reboot to safe strap recovery
Format Data/Cache
Install MOAR.zip
Reboot to Odin mode
Install VZW_BOA8_RETAIL_FIRMWARE_ONLY.tar.md5
Reboot
Plan to let this boot and then reapply safestrap and reboot to recovery to apply update 4.
Thoughts?

After I get into this ROM, I reinstall safe strap and try to boot to Safe strap recovery, but only get native recovery. I tried to uninstall safestrap recovery and resintall.
Safe strap shows recovery is installed, but I can't get into safe strap recovery to install the update4.zip
What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.

I used Odin and flashed NK2 kernel, booted to SafeStrap and then installed the Update.
Rebooted in Odin and flashed OA8 kernel.
really none of verizon roms work
ive installed or or i should say failed with everyone except alliance rom an dont like it at all .....ive been doing this since droid bionic came out an my phone before that really what gives can anyone tell me why my phone is the only one that these roms wont work on ..would be great
Messages notification
loaded the rom and ran the debloater from your stock thread. installed your update #4 to fix whatnots. I have noticed the standard mms notification is transparent, or missing. there is a space where it should display the little unread mms/sms envelope. I would assume its part of the messages apk but thought there might be some color toggle i cant find. so im asking here. I messed with a few color toggles in the moar section perhaps that caused it
Still no sms fix
I just updated to v6.3 and still no sms. Are they gonna fix this issue? Love the rom but its useless to me without sms and mms.

Same, I've talked to a few people with this problem, apparently effects people with unlocked and/or non-verizon sims. I've posted around asking about this, waiting on possible fix.
I am having the same issue with sms not sending so I have just been using mms instead. It seems to be working fine for me. Although its a little annoying to covert to mms every time I send a text this rom is worth the effort.
Updating
This ROM is awesome, thank you very much!!
Sorry if this a stupid question, but how do I update this ROM? When I updated to OA8 and installed this ROM, I lost SafeStrap. Do I need to revert back to a KitKat version so I can use SafeStrap to install the newest versions? I'm on version 6.0 and it's great but I'm getting a lot of lag and force closes.. So I'd like to update to 6.3 and see if that fixes the issues. Thanks for the help!!
Put your phone into download mode and flash the KitKat kernal to get safestrap back. After flashing in safestrap reboot to download mode and install the OA8 kernal again.
