[Q] How long for first boot after flashing rom??? - Galaxy Y GT-S5360 and Duos 6102 Q&A, Help & Troubl

Hi there,
I really hope I haven't ruined my son's Galaxy Y.
I've followed all the instructions from several different threads and have just "flashed" an new rom (Cyanogenmod 7) onto it and I'm now sitting here with it switched on but only the front screen (saying Samsung Galaxy). It's been like it for 10 minutes. Should it take this long??
Feeling a bit sick that I've ruined his phone for him rather than making it better.

Do you know a good ODIN set of instructions I can follow?

can I use odin if the phone is in this state? Does it work from the laptop?

You can still enter download mode by pulling out the battery and hold volume down and home and power button
Here the link to firmware : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2568853

what do you mean pull out the battery? Do you mean take it out and then put it back in again?

Yes. Because in bootloop you can't turn off your phone, isn't it?

trying to install drivers now. I'm so annoyed with myself for trying to do this

now it wont recognise it by usb even though i've installed the drivers!

Just flash the stock rom via odin and your phone will be fine , then u can relax and look for a good custom rom and check what went wrong when you flashed the cm7

ok, so i managed to get it to install back to factory settings using odin. now i know that works, do I simply use odin to flash a new rom or do i need to do other things first?

well i thought everything was back to normal but its now doing a software update and seems to be stuck at 86%

What software update? OTA? the one u do direrly from ur phone? I dont see why u need to do that if ur gonna flash a custom rom.. since now its stuck just be patient and wait if it dont work den try to remove d battery and reboot..

What rom are you trying to flash??

original reason for trying to do this was because the internal memory on this phone is awfully low. I was going to try to allocate some of the sdcard to it.
Having never done anything like this before I've had to read through lots of different threads to try to feel confident enough to try.

Use rom toolbox pro (paid) in playstore to uninstall unwanted system apps. But, don't try to uninstall apps that you don't know what it used for

did you convert your system to ext and install the common kernel for cm7?
if you just flashed the rom it wont boot without doing the above
cyanogenmod roms (cm7/9/10/11 etc) require you to be on an ext system partition
stock roms use rfs partition so you need to convert your system partition to ext
you also need a kernel that can boot ext partitions (stock kernel can only boot rfs)
therefore you also need to flash Bieltv.3 kernel
my instructions for installing cm7 are
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50907846&postcount=25
and the meta-inf folder mentioned you can download from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50908670&postcount=27
if all else fails simply flash stock rom via odin which links to the firmware and guide are in my signature

cannot use odin!!

my phones 3g stopped working 1 day after i flashed a new rom so i tried flashing it again and that didnt work so i am trying to go back to stock with the how to return to stock guide on here but i cannot get my pc to recognize my phone in downloading mode
i can adb when its on and the drivers are installed but when i boot into downloading mode it just says device is unrecognized
i have tried a different computer and reinstalled the drivers more times that i can remember. what would be the next step here?
is there anyway i can start fresh even if i lose root?
There needs to be a q&a section.
The drivers suck.
What os are you using. Persistence will be your friend. Don't forget to power cycle everything.
im using win 7 64bit
The win 7 drivers are actually vista drivers if I remember correctly.
Which Odin arevyou using? Do you have clockwork?
i have tried 1.0 and 1.3 nothing works. and yes i have clockwork thats how i install my roms.

apparently the first one writes system the second for the modem (phone/data)
lmfao your gonna kill me for this but as soon as i finished transfering the file to my sd card 3g just started working.... maybe it was just a glitch with my signal over here? im going to let it be and if it messes up tomorrow then i will flash that stock rom and see what happens...

[Q] Galaxy Spica only booting up to Recovery menu

I rooted my phone successfully and everything worked and for some reason i tried to format my memorystick because apps to sd didnt work.
So now my phone only boots into recovery mode and i cant get out.
I have tried flashing it again with Odin and installing android 2.2 again but nothing seems to work.
Have anyone else experienced this? What do i do to fix it?
Found any Solution
Hi! Did you find any solution?! I am facing the same problem since yesterday. Formatted the card like you did and stuck with the boot screen and recovery menu. Nothing more. This's a rooted phone and hence the boot screen has also changed. How to flash to original 2.1 so that I could at least drop it at the service center? Thanks in advance!
A difficult thing to fix

Nope, i just layed my phone on the shelf and forgot it.
I tried reflashing and installing other types of android 2.2 and 2.1 but it didnt work.
had the same issue before, sorted now. what you need to do is install a clean firmware, I tried all until I came across i570EXXJCB, I installed that and my phone would boot normally. I then installed Lk2.08 and upgrade straight to SpicagenMod. Worked for me. best of luck.
How?

But how did you install clean firmware?
He done it through Odin, same happened to me YESTERDAY. Pissed me right off, after formatting my SD card :S. Sorted now though. Flash JCB via ODIN and then install your LK2-08 PDA and goto SPicagen or whatever mod after
This solution did not work for me. I'm on a different Galaxy phone, but same exact problem, installing clean/original firmware made no difference, it still boots into recovery even though the boot screen has changes according to the ROM I've installed. This seems like a major Samsung goof

did you do it through ODIN? I can't remember exactly, this is over a year ago now.. but I remember I had to flash an official firmware that was close to the version that came with my device.. Eclair if I'm not mistaken.. depending on your galaxy device, try and flash the original firmware that came with your phone

Do all 3 flashes

I broke my phone, need help.

This is a case of "I have no idea what I'm doing. I shouldn't have messed with crap I don't understand."
I have an Epic 4g that I've rooted previously and, using Odin, installed a custom ROM (forget which one). Yesterday, I attempted to flash Legendary ROM, following the directions in the How-to video linked in the Legendary post. I have an earlier version of CWM (v2.5.1.0 if that makes a difference) than what was on the video. I wiped the data, the Dalvik cache, and the battery stats before I began the flash.
The flash consisted of downloading the zip file of the ROM to my phone, booting into CWM, and installing the zip file from the SD card. The screen said that it installed correctly, but I got an error "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log". When I went to reboot, it got stuck at the Samsung screen permanently.
I tried to flash again the same way - same thing happened. I read on a forum post somewhere that the SD card partition may not have enough space to flash the ROM, so I partitioned my SD card. Yup, I'm that dumb. Now, when I boot it up, it goes to the Samsung screen for a few seconds, then directly to CWM screen. It even goes to CWM when I plug the phone in without turning it on.
I've searched the forums here and elsewhere for this problem and specifically the error message (E: Can't open ...) and can't really make heads or tails of anything. The replies are over my head as far as my knowledge of my phone and these processes. I don't know what the exact problem is nor how to fix it. If you could help an idiot through the steps, I would greatly appreciate. If you live around the Philly area, I could offer you $50 to fix my phone and install the Legendary ROM.
Thank you for your time in reading this.
as long as it turns on and you get some kinda life you are still good couple things you can try
1 since you are on a older version of CWM wipe data 3 times cache 3 times and dalvic 3 time then try installing your ROM again give it a shot wont hurt anything
2 if that doesnt work you will have to Odin back to stock and re-root...i know it sounda like a pain in the ass but its the best option ill find you a how to for this if you need it

Thank you. I'll try the first when I get home this evening. I'm curious as to why each of those should be wiped 3 times. I'm not arguing your method, just honestly curious.

Its not bricked if it turns on! And you don't have to wipe 3 times... only 1 time each on all 3 things! Update your cwm and try to flash again, if that doesn't work odin to stock and start over... this time don't use an old version of cwm use the newest (5.0.2.7)

That's the file you'll have to use with Odin to flash your phone back to stock 2.2. That file will go in the PDA slot of Odin. Don't bother with a PIT or repartitioning (probably not needed in your case).
Once you boot with stock 2.2, let the phone OTA to EI22 and EL30 to get to stock gingerbread with the updated modem. From there you can start the root/rom flash process again.

Dont sweat that... most of it is all through trial and error. Truthfully, that's how I really got to know my phone better and the stuff I can do w/ it. That and this community. That's why trying a new rom isn't no big thing. If it doesn't take... it doesn't take. That's why we have "nandroid backup" and in "bad" situations, we have ODIN...

Welcome to the Sponge club and also the halls of Asgard to visit Odin or heimdall.
It worked!
I was able to successfully set my phone back to stock 2.2 and just received the OTA updates.
Before I left work last night, my wife called and told me that I locked the cat in the office the night before and she chewed up the USB cable for the phone (I'm so "internet"). I stopped at the Sprint store on the way home and got a new USB cable. I was using Odin for the process, following the video, using my new cable, and Odin couldn't see my phone. The guy in the video was completely right about Sprint/Samsung cables being crap. The chewed cable was originally from a Blackberry. I tried the chewed cable, having to hold it stretched out and tilted to the left, and Odin saw my phone. It went smoothly from there, though my arm got a bit sore.
When I get a chance within the next few days, I'm going to root and try again to install Legendary.
You guys are fantastic. Thank you all for your help. It's obvious that the people here know a lot about this stuff, but it's especially great that you're able to explain this stuff to people who don't know much at all. That's a talent.

Replace that cable ASAP, if you had lost connection in the middle of Odin'ing to stock you could have really bricked your phone! You might need to use Odin again soon..when learning my phone I had to Odin to stock probably 15 times, especially when you start flashing between MTD and BML ROMs (if you don't know what that is, just keep reading on here you will figure it out soon)

[Q] HELP! - Messed It Up

Hi,
Hope someone can help as I've exhausted Google trying to find a solution. I've tried to flash my Milestone 2 but it failed big time and now wont boot just shows the motorolo logo. I'm trying to use RDS Lite to push a stock rom back on the phone but every time it tells me it can't switch to fastboot mode and i've tried taking out the battery and holding varous key combinations whilst putting the battery back but wont go in to fastboot mode.
I've also tried to get into the recovery menu but I get as far as a white triangle with and orange exclamation mark and a little android, but again every key combination i've tried doesn't seem to work.
If I could get either one to work I should be able to recover my phone and stop the wife from killing me
Thanks in advance of any help
Have you tried going into download mode on your device and using odin to reflash the rom safely+get boot images etc just incase.
Also you should find if you extract the rom 5-4 packeages. Use them all if 4 but if 5 google it for i dont know. dont use one package unless told by person who gave you the rom. If that dosnt work do a factory reset/hard if factory wont work

thanks for the replies, but the link you gave me thiagomtl is now blocked on the downloads plus gmaster1 i've tried a few roms but get the same message regarding fastboot
You don't have to go into fast boot mode. There is no fast boot mode in MS2 unless you have a DEV phone.
You have to be in bootloader mode. The key combination for that is power + up arrow key.
Flash the sbf using RSDLite. If the phone does not boot. Go into android recovery using power + 'X' key. On the '!' mark and android bot screen, you need to press @ key (if you are on Froyo) or vol up + vol down (if you are on GB).
This will give the recovery menu. Wipe data and reboot. That should do it.
Again thanks to all that replied got my phone 95% works the only thing that isn't working is the wifi as when you switch wifi on it keeps trying to start then just says error. Any ideas?

[Q] Continuum Soft Brick (Can't mount /dev/block/stl11)

So my Continuum decided to go down in a blaze of WTFery, and I decided to just wipe and reinstall everything. Bad move, because now I've been poking at this for 2 days now, and have downloaded a bevy of files to try to fix it. My goal originally was to move up to EG04, but I'll settle for Froyo and whatever the f**** works now!
As it stands now:
I've just flashed cwm_recovery_test4_adryn through Odin, and have the red update.zip on the SD card, when I try to do anything in recovery I get lots of can't mount.
Any help would be appreciated! I'm downgraded to my OG Droid on CM7 for the moment, but the battery is awful.
I assume you've already tried flashing a rom with the correct Pit file? There are others on here that know a whole lot more than me about memory blocks, mounting, partitions, etc..., but that's were I'd start. And I'd start with the stock ec09 rom and pit.
And did the phone fail after flashing something, or just during normal use?

I tried the PIT file with the EC07 ROM and it wouldn't work, but this one took! Thank you!
It started having a bunch of FCs while I was doing anything, seemed like a one of issue but I wanted to try the GB leak and I got greedy.
I hate wanting to mess with it more, but can you help with root on this too? I was going to use ciscogee's EC09 Stock Rooted+Deodex CWM package, but I don't know which CWM to flash and the link is down for the package.
EC07 was a little before my time here, but I think there was some issues with some pit files not working. Glad you got it up and running. The CWM you need is in the development forum in the [recovery] [EC09]. It's linked in the op. If the link is down there let me know, I THINK I have the zip saved on my laptop.
And since I've had to edit this post twice now, I'm going to stop giving you any advice! Been up all night with a sick kid, so I can't tell my head from my a$$ right now... Dont want to tell you something wrong!

Here is what I did when I soft bricked and got out of it. First, I was able to get into download mode luckly but nothing would boot. I went to the continuum data base and grabed the Dl17 files and flashed them. The device booted and from there I was able to take OTA updates back to froyo. Try doing that. If you need any of the files I have them all and can send them to you. Let me know.

So I used this recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1057072
http://www.imnuts.org/downloads/continuum/I400_CWM.tar.md5 and now I can't boot again, still getting the can't mount /dev/block/stl11 (file exists) error. I've looked online and it seems like it's related to LagFix recovery? I'm dead ended again. Any thoughts?

Here is the recovery I have for ec09.
I'd Odin the ec09 rom and pit, get it running and then Odin this file... Should get you set up.

Make sure you use the cyan recovery and not the red one, the cyan one doesnt have any issues. The red one might be causing the file error issue. It looks like the cyan link is dead but luckly I think I might have it. Pm me your email and I can send it to you because the forum doesnt allow me to attatch it. I know this recovery works because I use this one.

I'm not sure I understand, do you mean put that CWM file in the PIT section in Odin, or put the PIT file I used to flash the odexed ROM in the PIT box and the CWM file in the PDA section?
In other news the ROM I flashed has root already, so that's one thing done! I would like to have CWM for backup but realistically I think I'm buying the Galaxy Nexus soon(ish), so I don't know that it would be necessary. The flashing with the PIT file and the EC09 ROM worked to get me back up and running, so thanks everybody that helped!
Roaddog665, thank you, and now I have to watch the WWE Attitude era DVD to get Road Dogg Jessie James and Billy Gunn's promo out of my head! "Laaaaadies and gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages! D-Generation X proudly brings to you..."
Hold on I'm trying to remember where you usually flash a recovery in odin I haven't changed mine in a really long time. I believe it's the pda section not the pit section don't quote me on it. I would just flash that recovery to your device as its the most stable one and I know it works because I'm running it. When I get home I can check on that for you and I will repost it so. Just hold off and I will post back.
I went ahead and uploaded it for you.
https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B2xihCrRYu81aXVteWxreS0xX3c Grab it from hereand flash it via odin.
Download the file I posted this is the custom recovery. (cwm). Place it in a folder on your desktop or somewhere where it is easy accessible. Open up odin. Put your phone into Dow load mode. Plug it into the computer via usb. Now on odin the box should be yellow and now it should say ready. In the pda section place the file that you Downloaded into the pda section and press start and let it flash the recovery to your device. Once it's done the phone might reboot on its own. Let it reboot. Now power the phone down. Once your phone is completely powered off power it back on by pressing power+volume down+volume up and it should boot into the custom recovery you just flashed from there use the volume rockers to scroll up and down and the power button is select. Back up your system through cwm this usually takes around 10 mins depending on how much data you have. Once it's done press the back button where it would be lit up on the soft ketlys to go back and reboot. You have now backed your system up. Cwm can also be used to flash custom roms just place them on your sd card and flash them through cwm. If you need help doing anything, but or have any question ms text me. I have pmed you my number.

The CWM goes in the pda, you can leave the pit empty. The pit file just tells Odin how to set the partition, the pda actually has the files that go on the partitions, so as long as what you are flashing uses the same partitions as what is on the phone a pit file is not needed ... If I understand it all correctly.
And I promise... The screen name did NOT come from WWE! haha!

I figured, but it still got stuck in my head regardless!
Jaggar345 I'll keep what you PM'd me in case I need it in the future. I have the files downloaded for CWM, but I don't really need it since I'll likely be moving to a new phone as soon as finances allow!
Lol...
And I'm in the same boat, should get to upgrade in a couple months. EG04 is really nice, and the mods that have been put out on here are great, but there are a few bugs. Nothing horrible, but it's nice to have a phone that just works. Right now I'm running stock ec09 rooted and debloated, stock recovery too.

Well that lasted about four days... Couldn't stand it anymore, back on EG04 and Trailblazers mods!
What phone are you thinking about upgrading to?

Well the s3 tops my want list, but also tops the price list, so....
Maybe a galaxy nexus or droid razr m. It will depend on what they have and price. I'd like something about the same size as the continuum, but want more processor and memory.

I recommend either the s3 or the razr m. When it comes to speed they're great! I would also recommend galaxy note II. I love this phone! But out of all honesty it was too pricey.. But it was worth it. I mean tell me a quad core processor and 2gb ram wasn't meant for multitasking and speed!

I really want the Nexus 4, but VZW's coverage is soooo nice in my area! That leaves me with either the Galaxy Nexus which I prefer because it's more open and easier to mod, or the Verizon Note 2 because I like the screen size and the stylus built in. I'd normally never use a stylus unless it was right next to my fingers when I wanted it.
