So, I've been around the block and learned a lot since getting this Nexus Player. STICKMOUNT is my topic of discussion right now.
I had StickMount working when I was running LolliRock, however since wiping and switching back to stock I am unable to install StickMount via GooglePlay (PlayStore says it is incompatible). I did also install Unleashed Kernel this time around, though I don't know why that would limit what the PlayStore thinks is compatible with my device.
I've successfully sideloaded it for now, but I'd really rather get the actual market version working as I've paid for it and would enjoy updates as they come.

How did you get the app to sideload? I can't find a download anywhere.
I sideloaded Stickmount! But now I can't get it to mount my ext4 volume. I do have root, and root permissions were granted. It says a volume has been mounted to /sdcard/usbStorage/sda1/ but nothing is in there
I'm running LolliRock again, and that is the directory where my drive mounts. Maybe because of ext4? I'm using either ntfs or fat32.
Are you able to write to your NTFS volume? It was NTFS, but read it had read only support so I switched to ext4. Round and round we go.

Ya know, I'm not sure. I've only read from it, I'll try and copy something over tonight and try and report back.
EDIT: I can write to this drive, however ESFE doesn't seem to report what I have it formatted as, and it is too difficult for me to easily remove. Do you know of a way I can check without digging back in my entertainment center?
NTFS works! I can read/write just fine. I have now tested ext3 & ext4, both don't work on the stock androidtv nexus player (at least with the current version of stickmount).
Thanks for your help!
Does NTFS stay mounted after sleep and restart?
No, but stick-mount does re-mount the drive in the same location on startup.

Im currently on ICS Taboonay 3.0.
I tried App2SD and Link2SD. It does not work.
Are these app not compatible with ICS?
If you know an app and which rom, please let me know. I'm starting to think maybe its not compatible to tablet at all.
Does this one work?:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.curvefish.apps.movetosd
movetosd does not work for me
The only apps that I have found that actually work for me are gl to sd and link2sd. Both require root, however link2sd is a total pain getting setup. It wasn't worth it to me and I can get by with gl to sd just fine.
GL to SD..it appears this was meant for Gameloft Data/games to SD. It did let me transfer a few apps/data like kindle and amazon to SD..could just be data and not the complete install. I'm not sure if this works like the rest of those apps, but Its the only app that works for me so far on ICS.
link2sd always fail and gives me error of "INSTALL_FAILED_INSUFFICIENT_STORAGE". This is bogus of course, since I do have space.
Well... All these Apps are somewhat of a hack, so don't expect them to work unless the developer specifically says otherwise... What on earth are you doing to your Tab anyway to fill 16GB storage with apps?! I only use 1.2 GB for Apps (and I have a lot of them) + 4GB for my chroot Linux... Not even close to filling up the available space.
I own the 8gb version. Its not that difficult to fill after you flash a rom. This would be a convenient solution if its doable that's all.
THIS MAY BRICK YOUR TAB IF YOU SCREW UP
Do a NAND backup before trying anything like this!
Well, if you're really desperate (and have root and busybox) you can always do the "link to SD" trick yourself: Just move the relevant files in /data/app and /data/data to your SD card, then symlink them back (ln -s /path/to/moved/file/or/folder /original/path) from a Terminal. This should even work with system apps, they're under /system/app... You should be very careful with this, anyway, because if you move the wrong ones you'll render the ROM non-bootable (Recovery should still work, though, so, again, KEEP A BACKUP!).

Did you make that funny logical disc or whatever it was? I remember having to create some sort of partition on the external sd and set it up in a very specific way. It was a pain but once I got right it that error went away. I stopped using it for some reason, not sure what it was exactly, but I think it made a few things unstable. Might have been something I moved and not the app at all...
did u fix it

Hi all,
I successfully rooted my MOJO, but I still don't know how to move games to the SD card. I tried a few apps to achieve this, but none of them seems to work. What am I doing wrong? I hope you can help me.
Thanks in advance!
Are the apps giving you any message? App2SD will say something like "The device does not have real primary external storage, or the Primary external storage is emulated. Moving app to SD function may not be supported by this device"
You might try this: http://karthikkn.wordpress.com/2013...ard-on-your-android-phone-without-rooting-it/

Are you sure your SD card is being read by the MOJO?
Format SD Card to FAT format.
Insert Card.
Go to settings, storage, mount sd card.

Yes, my SD card is mounted, I can access it by using a file explorer. However I am not able to move games.
@ExtremeRyno Yes, this is exactly what App2SD is saying. Thanks for the link, did you try it out? I don't think this is going to work on the mojo, since it is not possible to connect a USB cable and using ADB. Or am I wrong?
Is nobody here who successfully moved games to SD card? We have root now, so it should be easy, or not?
You can ADB in via network. Get the IP of the mojo from settings->status, then it's just "adb connect ipaddr" so you can try out the link instructions.
Root doesn't always equate to a completely open system. Some devices just don't work with moving apps to an SD card. My A700 doesn't allow it, and I'm rooted, but my NookColor does allow it. I've yet to get my cable delivered, so I can't attest to anything as of yet.
Maybe someone with MadCatz can give an explanation? I know it's an extremely important feature for a gaming console to have enough storage to handle more than ten or so big games at a time.

Found a new app today that seems to get around the problems the other apps have: FolderMount. It's free. I plan to try it out as soon as I root...Probably in the next couple days. If you get a chance before me, let us know how it works.

Also, I'm aware of the double post, but they're days apart and this needed a bump (for great justice, right?)

Tanks for the tip! I just tried out this app, but unfortunatly it doesn't work. Maybe it works for smaller games, because I was able to move the data to the SD card with it. But if you move big games with OBB data and then start the game, it doesn't find anymore its OBB data and downloads it again.
Also, you can't move back the data from the SD card. I just tried it out with NOVA 3 and I have to redownload the whole game now
It works now, yeehaaa :good:
For some reason, the MOJO needs to be rebooted after moving the OBB data to SD card
Summary:
1. Root the MOJO
2. Format your SD card as a primary partition using fat32
3. Install this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devasque.fmount
4. Move OBB data of your games
5. reboot
Remark: If you want to move more than 2 apps/games, you will have to buy the pro version of this app.
Awesome! I tried it out on my tablet last night and moved around a couple games....But never more than two at a time. I had no idea that was actually a limitation, either..Just worked out that way. I'll have to buy the full version as soon as I root.
Excellent news.
Not working

I tried that folder mount and did move the folders, but the internal storage indicates the same as before and the obb data remains in the internal storage as apposed to moving completely to the external.Meaning i don't know why but it doesn't work?I too have rooted my m.o.j.o so it's not because of that either.

Okay try again but on a fresh start (on/off).
Maybe you had a process running in the back?
And remember to reboot it after moving.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2748087 this works though just been clarified for games being moved.
Unless I am mistaken apps2sd and gl to sd, don't move the data file making them useless in the real world. and I've not looked into it for about 6 months or so, so something might have changed but filemount doesn't work correctly on android 4.2.2 and onwards.
And unfortunately its the same for directory bind (undoubtedly the best mount/binder ever on android) simply amazing application but again it don't like 4.2.2
Not tried directory bind on the mojo cause unless some things changed with it the last few months its not going to work. Also I don't fancy doing anything to the mojo until a Recovery's available and that ain't happening unfortuinately
Hi all,
I'm starting this thread because I didn't see something quite like what I was looking for to answer some questions I had about exFAT vs FAT32. The question is, essentially, which file system is best to use with this high-cap SD card? If this thread is redundant, please let me know and/or direct me to the appropriate thread.
The reason I started looking for information is because of strange storage symptoms I was experiencing after introducing a SanDisk 64GB Class 10 SD card to my Verizon Note3. I first noticed the symptoms after taking the NC4 OTA (first mistake, I know). Nonetheless, the symptoms were there. I eventually followed some instructions to install BajaROM (thanks @az_biker and @barrackOBAMA) since the issue of r/w to SD card was addressed in that ROM, and since I could use that ROM on the NC4 OTA base. However, the symtpoms persisted. One thing I noticed happened when I was re-installing apps on the new ROM. One, in particular, was MinecraftPE, purchased legit through the Play Store. I would install the app, and it would open and function correctly. Then, when I rebooted the device, the app would not run from the app drawer. The app would still be listed in Settings > Applications > Downloaded, but it was listed as 0.00MB installed. If I executed the app from the lingering icon, I got the message "App not installed on this device," which would open the Play Store to re-install the app. But the app wouldn't install at that point, since it was still registered as installed, per Settings > Applications. I had to uninstall from Settings, then reboot, then open Play Store to re-install. Ugh! I was able to get the app to install "correctly," though not as preferred (App2SD), by un-mounting the SD card prior to executing the install from Play Store.
One other major issue involved using the stock camera app and saving to SD. When the pic was snapped, and saved to SD, I could open the pic from the gallery link in the camera right then, and even share it. However, if I exited the camera app and opened the stock gallery app separately, the pic was listed as a broken link (or unreadable file?) and I could neither open it or share it or anything. The file was also defunct if I tried to access it from any file manager utility, stock or otherwise. The only "fix" I found for that was simply to save pics to internal storage. Again, ugh, that takes up space quickly.
I've read a lot of information about exFAT vs FAT32 and I've wondered whether the issue is that exFAT isn't a good functional match with Android in general or, in this case, even with custom ROMs. I do not, by any means, assert that I truly understand Android OS, file system/structure protocols, or anything of the sort. I read when I don't understand. I've read varying opinions about which SD card file structure is best overall to use with Android, and about which to use with high-cap SD cards. I see that ext3 is reliable and scalable, but that I'd need to use Linux to access it from off-device. That is a bit more awkward for me. I see that, overall, FAT32 is more reliable for use, and that there's no incompatibility with Windows. I don't really mind that file size is limited to 4GB, so I'm leaning that way.
Also, I found this on TeamWin website, which I found helpful (quoted & referenced). It explained what's what with exFAT (for me, anyway).:
"exFAT is an update to FAT32 file system and is commonly found on 64GB or larger sdcards. exFAT has a different and much more restrictive license compared to FAT32. Due to this restrictive license, we'll probably never see exFAT support in the Linux kernel. Many Android manufacturers (e.g. Samsung, HTC) have cross-licensing agreements with Microsoft that allow them to add exFAT support in Android, but that agreement doesn't mean that we're able to add exFAT support for your device in TWRP.
You can reformat your 64GB card to FAT32. You may need to remove the card from your device and use a computer to accomplish the reformat. You also may have to find and download a third party utility to format to FAT32 if you're using a Windows PC. The biggest downside to using FAT32 is that FAT32 doesn't support files larger than 4GB.
If you need a file system that can support files larger than 4GB and works in recovery, you pretty much have one choice: ext4. Unfortunately Android often doesn't handle ext4 formatted sdcards automatically. You'll probably have to mount the sdcard manually using a shell script, GScript (free app in the market), or an init.d type of script. You also won't be able to pop your sdcard into a Windows computer because Windows doesn't recognize the ext4 file system.
You're also welcome to try NTFS, but the majority of the time, NTFS will only mount as read-only in recovery. The Linux kernel doesn't have very good NTFS support either."
So that's a lot for a post. If you're still reading, thanks. I welcome any and all feedback or insight regarding my SD card "woes," or the issue(s) I presented. I'm definitely ok with learning and appreciate your time and help. Have a great rest of your day.
SscoootzZ :fingers-crossed:
I have my sandisk ultra 64gb formatted fat32. I do not need it to handle files larger then 4gb so no issues for me.

So I finally made the leap from Lollipop to Marshmallow. Everything has been going fine for the most part, but I've hit a huge snag: moving apps to SD.
I use Titanium Backup to keep a full backup of my phone on the external SD card. I depend on this backup for two purposes:
1) it makes updating the ROM (like this time) a lot easier. I do a factory reset, get the base Android going, re-install Titanium Backup from the Play Store, point it to my backups on the external SD card, and then I'm good to restore (either full app+data if that's safe, or I first re-install the app from the Play Store then just restore the app's data using TB).
2) It saves my butt in the event of a phone hardware failure, which has happen several times over my many years as an Android user. I just buy a replacement phone, move the SD card over, and restore my apps/data in a similar manner as in #1.
I have a Galaxy S5 with 16GB of internal storage, which is certainly not enough so I depend on my 64GB external SD card greatly. Between keeping all my large media on the external SD, as well as moving what large apps to SD as I can, this has been fine. I use Bliss ROM.
So make the jump from Android 5 -> 6, and finally get to the point where I need to move some of the apps I've restored to SD... but can't find the option. I do some research, and now am in a panic. From what I can tell, you can only move apps to SD if you use the SD as adopted/internal storage, which means it gets re-formatted, encrypted, and can only be used with that phone. This eliminates the possibility of #1 & #2 above. To continue performing #1 & #2, I need to use the SD as "portable storage" (the way it is now), which apparently leaves no way to move apps to SD.
I am in a pickle now, and feel stuck. I'm hoping I'm missing another option. Help?

A method other than formatting the card as internal/adopted storage? Did the method involve setting up multiple partitions?
While I could set up a FAT32 partition just for TB, then adopt the rest, my backups aren't the only thing I've needed to access after popping out the SD card. For example, just being able to load media that way is quick and sometimes a life-saver. I've also used that as a way to get zip files on that I could then flash via recovery. I'm also not clear if you can "mount" adopted storage as USB while in recovery so it's visible to the computer as a USB mass-storage device while the phone is connected via USB cable (as you have been able to do normally up to this point).

It's a marshmallow problem, not Rom specific. In xda's app section there are threads for both link2sd (not working) and app2sd (works for some). Check those, I think that's where I saw the info.
Ok it wasn't easy but I think I've gotten my head wrapped around Apps2SD and have it working. I tried the free version, backed up my 64GB external SD, partitioned it with a 16GB f2fs partition (for moving/linking apps) and the remainder exfat (for using the way I've traditionally used it). Restored everything back to the exfat partition and fixed where BeyondPod and Titanium Backup were pointing to. Did a few test links and it seemed to be working although fumbling my way through was confusing at first as I didn't find a clear "how to". Ended up buying the Pro version of Apps2SD once I felt good that this was a workable solution.
I still get an error on boot about my SD being corrupt but I just need to search on that, I'm sure there's a simple fix somewhere.

No idea, I never run stock.
As my question states, I'm looking to free up some space on my son's SM-T280. It's only 8GB internal, and even with moving most apps over to SD, he's starting to get 'memory full' messages.
If the SM-T280 had Marshmallow, I understand it would be rather easy, but we're still stuck in 5.1.1 land.
I figured I'd go the route of installing jedld's Tinker V5 ROM and playing with Xposed modules.
If anybody has any other suggestions or helpful advice, I'd be forever grateful!
EDIT: I'm already rooted with TWRP Recovery installed via ODIN. What about Magisk? I'm not really familiar with it, only played with Xposed a little bit on my Note4...
if you have root, what about just using APP2SD. it does not merge but does move the full apps over with a link
Link2SD also works on Lollipop (not Marshmallow)
That's pretty much what I'm doing now, but some/most apps won't install or even let you move them over to the SD card, so APPS2SD is pretty limited. I appreciate the reply, tho.
Most if not all apps i have downloaded from the play store were able to be moved to the sd card with link2sd.

make sure you have the right mounting script and setting. I had simlar issue but eventually got the mounting to work and then everything was fine (some supersu setting changes were required)
Use "apk editor pro" app! It makes non-movable apps movable!! Its extremely easy to use!!!
I just use an app called Apps2SD (pro works best) and partition my SD card to have two PRIMARY partitions, make em exFAT for first and ext4 for the second. I used a tool on Windows called MiniTool Partition Wizard which is free to do so. And that took care of that for me. Good luck
