[Q] Did a factory reset ACCIDENTLY! - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello there
I friend of mine made a really big mistake. I told him to update to the latest kernel version and clear cache and dalvik-cache after that. What he did, he made a factory reset, without a backup befor...
I don't know what I should do now. I told him to don't touch his phone, that we can maybe restore something, but this will be very dfficult...
So guys, can someone tell me, how I can solve that problem now? I really want to help him, because he's in trouble because of ME! :crying:
If anyone knows something, please tell me..

Connect the S4 to the PC, then install and run Recuva. Point Recuva to the internal storage and let try to recover files. Do the same thing to the MicroSD if it was wiped.
He will still have to reinstall his apps, and you aren't at fault for him not following instructions.

[Q] trouble after deleting data/data/com.android.providers.settings

hi guys, would really appreciate your help..
i was trying to fix my nexus 4's problem of unable to sync with google servers so i deleted the data/data/com.android.providers.settings and it indeed fixed the issue.
unfortunatley, after rebooting, i'm now:
- unable to get a lockscreen
- unable to get home button to work
- swipe down settings are gone. and so are notifications
is there another way to restore this other than a factory reset?

Factory reset wil not help, reflash a factory image or custom rom if you are rooted.

He only deleted the data so of course a factory reset will fix it this.
You will probably take ages trying to fix and end up having to wipe anyway. I take it you haven't got a backup of any sort (nandroid/ti backup) etc?

Yup, my bad. So many users wiping the entire sdcard nowadays that i took it wrong and didn`t read correctly
I thought I did but I searched my PC and couldn't find any previously backed up data. So I guess I've no choice but to factory reset and reinstall my data

Hi there! I had had the same problem l33chpda had, but the factory reset fix worked just one time only, today i was about to resell my phone so i wanted to factory reset it, after that i've come across with the problem i had that time, again.
Don't know what to do, i have same issues mentioned by l33chpda, cant get into settings, swipe down settings neither, etc; when try to, phone just do nothing or stays one second and goes back home screen.
I have made nandroid (both clockworkmod and TWRP) of the phone when I bought it, but with online nandroid so i don't have any custom recovery installed.
While checking those nandroid backups, I've discovered the deleted folder backup in the clockworkmod nandroid folder.
Could it be possible to paste it back into "\data\data" folder? should that be the fix? Or I'll have to reflash all even though I dont wanna take that risk because is just that, the other things of the phone are intact and work great.
In case of reflashing, could you tell me about any easy tutorial on how to install clockworkmod recovery?
I own an LG G2 D800, KitKat d80020y rooted with stumproot.

problem mounting internal sd card

after i test the pacrom and restored my previous rom, now i cannot download anymore files. maybe due to mounting problem of the internal sdcard... only the playstore can download...
ill try aolving these via odin but hope someone can help me without the odin
You didn't give us nearly enough information to know for certain what is going on. You may be running afoul of the Kitkat SD permissions that limit apps to a single folder. Or you may have broken app paths, outdated cache information, simple corruption or even something else altogether..
Restore a valid backup if you have one. If not, then that is something that you should be doing in the future to avoid this type of problem. Some things to try in the alternative would be wiping the system cache from recovery mode. Failing that, go to the application manager in the settings menu and try clearing the cache and data for a given app. And failing that, reinstall the app.
If you have more serious issues that aren't resolved by the above steps, then it will be hard to discern what happened unless you can give us a detailed, step by step description of all the changes you made. A situation where a valid backup would be the best way to recover. If wiping the caches doesn't work, you'd probably be best to simply start over and write a full stock firmware image to your phone with Odin, followed by a factory data reset.
.
after coming from CM based rom my internal memory is read only..thats the problem but anyways thanks for the advice.. i solved it already by going odin

[HELP] Bootloop Problem

Hello guys,
So today I did a stupid thing with my Note, running Kitkat stock 4.4.2, CMW, N9005 variant and ended up with a bootloop.
The problem is related to the launcher, I'm using TSF shell launcher, for some reason I converted the TSF app to a system app and then uninstalled it, afterwards I restarted the phone and the problem happened. However, TouchWiz is working properly, means I didn't debloat or freeze or did any thing to it.
Now if someone plz could help me restoring TouchWiz to work post boot so the problem will be solved I'll be all grateful.
I'm attaching a screenshot of my device general info in case needed. Thanks in advance.
Update: The problem escalated after I decided to master reset my phone.
What happened again is i gave up to factory resetting my phone, I use Philz Touch 6 CMW based recovery, I headed to the options > Wipe Data/Factory Reset > Yes - Wipe all user data
What happened after this is :
-- Wiping data..
Formatting /data. . .
Formatting /cache. . .
Formatting / sd-ext. . .
E: unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
Data wipe complete
press any key to continue.
--
Then I went back to reboot the phone expecting that it will successfully boot and all the settings will be reset but instead the bootloop only still happening..
PLEASE HELP ME NOW

Reflash the stock firmware that you are using via ODIN. You have new updates too: HERE.

SD issues and app crashes

I have been on 5.0 for about a week now. It was great until today. Numerous app crashes. Can't write to sd. Phone says I don't have enough storage to save an image when I'm face I do. Has anyone else had this issue? If so please help. I can't even reliably use my phone.
can you try to factory reset? i have problem too and i wipe all then do flash with fresh rom, and the problem gone

Getting error messages that I don't have an SD card??

Hey guys,
So I just got my OP5 today... the first thing I did after taking it out of the box was unlock the bootloader (obviously). I then installed TWRP so I could backup my stock image. Since then I've been fighting with my phone all day because my apps say I don't have an SD card. 1) I can't download apps, 2) I can't take pictures 3) I can't create a folder on my internal storage with the file manager.
I have tried wiping system and wiping data. ( I'm currently on FreedomOS rom since I wanted to try wiping everything ) The weird thing is I was able to download ES file browser, Root Checker, and Titanium backup before the SD card stopped working. Is there any way I can try to fix this??? Kinda worried I received a defective unit.
you need to wipe data then reboot you will find the problem is fixed

Unfortunately I tried this a few times to no avail. Fortunately for anyone else with this problem I think it's fixed. After wiping I ran Fix Permissions in TWRP... that seems to have done the trick. I'm up and running now, no bugs. Thanks for the input!
