Getting error messages that I don't have an SD card?? - OnePlus 5 Questions & Answers

Hey guys,
So I just got my OP5 today... the first thing I did after taking it out of the box was unlock the bootloader (obviously). I then installed TWRP so I could backup my stock image. Since then I've been fighting with my phone all day because my apps say I don't have an SD card. 1) I can't download apps, 2) I can't take pictures 3) I can't create a folder on my internal storage with the file manager.
I have tried wiping system and wiping data. ( I'm currently on FreedomOS rom since I wanted to try wiping everything ) The weird thing is I was able to download ES file browser, Root Checker, and Titanium backup before the SD card stopped working. Is there any way I can try to fix this??? Kinda worried I received a defective unit.

you need to wipe data then reboot you will find the problem is fixed

Unfortunately I tried this a few times to no avail. Fortunately for anyone else with this problem I think it's fixed. After wiping I ran Fix Permissions in TWRP... that seems to have done the trick. I'm up and running now, no bugs. Thanks for the input!

sounds to me you somehow erased your data partition and didnt wiped/format it.
you are not the first one with that problem: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=72807646&postcount=8
maybe a twrp or bootloader unlock problem ?

The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly

I have been having this issue ever since my phone booted up and all my apps sequentally had force close dialogs happen. I am running my apps from the SD and figured something went wrong with the boot up sequence. I tried doing a nandroid backup, reinstall fresh 1.1, but no luck.
I then used my backups to reinstall over all my apps, then went into Market to install them via that. Everything seemed to be just fine, but the phone app would still not dial anything and when I recieved a call, it gives the error "The process com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly" and then proceeds to try to reset the phone connection. Most times I lose all data connection and need to reboot.
Recently, I tried installing the latest Modoco CDMA rom. No luck. I then did a Titanium backup and force reinstalled everything again. Still no luck.
Anyone have this issue and get it resolved? My Hero can do everything but make and accept calls. I really don't want to do a wipe as this problem can just happen again, so I would rather understand the process.
Thanks in advance.

Simplest way to fix this should be clearing the dalvik/boot cache from fresh's kitchen. I really should write up a guide on how to do these simple tasks manually.

Will that work on MCR 2.2 as well? I'll look into that. Is it something I can do from recovery?
Ceger
yes should work on mcr 2.2 and can be done manually from recovery, I know recovery does dalvik cache, not sure if it also kils the boot cache as well though. The older version only did dalvik.

Do you need to do both? Wiping the dalvik cache created lots of app fc issues, which would be fine if the phone actually worked. Still won't make or receieve calls.
And thank you for the assistance.

Edit. Clearing the boot cashe got rid of the FC issues. However, still have same issue with the phone app. This is so annoying.
honestly the best bet to clear up the issues would be to do a full wipe from recovery. Wipe the phone clean then run the stock RUU and re-root and install your custom rom. Do a nandroid backup first just to prevent losing any of your info.
Unfortunately despite the many well written guides here on XDA there are always a few issues most likely a result of slight hardware quirks or unfortunate circumstances at the time of flashing.
Just for '****s and giggles' have you tried pulling your battery for 30 seconds, reinstalling it and booting the phone up?
Heck sometimes just a reflash of the rom right over top of itself. I've been tinkering with this phone since the day root came out and I still don't fully understand all of it's quirks.

use these commands to clear cache
rm -r /data/boot-cache/
rm /data/dalvik-cache/
once you finish then reboot.everything should go away...
he's done that already.
then i suggest to extract the rom zip file, and get into command on your device and go under the system/lib or app and see what is listed in the folders. and compare it to the rom folder.
That's how i was able to fix the voice search on my device, one of the lib file was missing and got it to work after that.

Done, even manually moved some files in case they were corrupted at one point. Very bad move, nandroid backup was my friend there.
Guess a wipe will be the only option then. How annoying.
Thanks for all of your inputs.

Another thought... would updating my phone with latest kernal compile possibly do the trick? Or how about a replacement process for google.com.phone?
Ceger
Interesting theory.... worth a try.
i had this issue once and it was because of somehow the uids for the apps got messed up. a wipe should fix this in most cases. but for me it went like ur issue. i almost event went back stock. then i looked into it and found that in my packages.xml file the the uids were all messed up. i had multiple uids and certs for the apps i was having issues with. so what i did was pulled the packages.xml from the device and erased the apps i was having issues with. then pushed it back and rebooted. that cleared the issue. so if i were u i would research that. do a google search on it. then if it doesnt work do the ruu and reroot. good luck man. i know how u must be feeling. i was there

Actually, the fix was much simpler. I wiped the SD ext partition and just did a Recovery Wipe. It went back to stock modded rom that remained rooted. I then used Titanium to reinstall my apps with data and then MyBackup to get back some settings such as my scenes, etc. and all was good. Took all of 30 minutes to get my Hero back up and running in better condition than before.
Thanks all for the assists.

[Q] Com.android.phone has stopped working...can't sent texts either

ATT S5 with Straight Talk sim. Towel root and stuff. I can't place calls but can receive them. The antenna reception icon is replaced with the little "banned" (circle with line through it...think no smoking signs). Any fixes?
First try wiping the system cache. Boot to recovery mode and wipe the cache. If the problem persists, go the application manager in the settings menu and clear cache and data for the process (app).
That will resolve most issues. There have been hundreds of threads about xxx has stopped working, so if you had done a search you would already have found this.
If your luck is bad and the above doesn't fix the error, then presumably you have something unusual happening e.g. a corrupt system file or non-obvious conflicting app. You can try temporarily removing recently installed apps or resetting your phone.
To reset your phone, backup any files that are important to you. Then write a full, stock firmware image with Odin, followed by a facotry ata reset. It's recommended that you use a pre-June 6th firmware build to assure that you can easily Towel root again.

You should provide more information e.g. a detailed, step by step description of what you are trying in aid of discerning where you have gone awry. It's implausible that you wrote a full stock firmware image plus cleared the system cache and a factory data reset and still have the problem remaining.
Those steps would restore any changes that you could have made to the keyloayout files and then some. Ergo, there is something that you have left out or possibly an error or omission in one of the steps you took towards reverting your phone.

1- Check your IMEI by *#06# and *#0011#. Is it still OK and PASS?
2- In the most cases, flashing the stock firmware may fix the problem.

Nandroid - apps crashing after restore

I I have a Galaxy S4 with KitKat 4.4.2 and TWRP installed. I have been using Nandroid for backups.
Today I (stupidly) deleted the CSC.apk file with Uninstall and the phone started acting really strangely. I tried restoring the CSC app but it wouldn't do it (I tried multiple times). So I booted into TWRP recovery mode and did a full restore which worked fine...until I rebooted the phone.
I have quite a few apps that continually crash with:
Unfortunately, (App Name) has stopped
and then all I can do is tap the OK button. After tapping OK the errors popup continuously.
Is this normal? How can I fix this without reflashing the phone? This is my first restore ever done with Nandroid Any ideas? Annoyingly I also lost the activation for my GPS app (CoPilot). I thought Nandroid was an exact clone/backup so when you screw the phone up you can restore back to EXACTLY how the phone was when the backup was done?
Anyway, appreciate any help or thoughts on how I can get my apps to work without the constant stopping popups!
Thank you!
Can anyone help please?
Go back into recovery and wipe both the regular cache and dalvik cache.
As to the lost CoPilot activation, you'll need to contact CoPilot, then explain the situation to them, and they should be able to help you.

Thanks! I tried that but after wiping both caches and rebooting the phone and entering my SIM PIN, I am still constantly getting the "Unfortunately, (App Name) has stopped".
Is there anything else I can try? I'm a but confused by this as I thought Nandroid was an exect image of the phone! I'm not worried about CoPilot at all but the rest is important
Do a factory reset from within TWRP, then restore from the nandroid backup. How old is this nandroid?

I'll give that a try tonight. I am running Nandroid 4.4.5 and the backups were created about a week ago.
Many thanks for your help!

So I tried doing a factory reset from TWRP and then doing a Nandroid restrore but after rebooting the phone I was still getting LOTS of errors with applications not working. Even the firewall wouldn't work as it couldn't find the config file.
I don't get it, I thought Nandroid made an EXACT image of your phone so if something went wrong and you performed a restore, your phone would be back to a working state?

It does, but your backup can get corrupted.

galaxy s4 won't boot (link2sd)

Hi all, wasn't quite sure where to post this so I posted here. I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 SM-S975L (straighttalk) running jflte cm13 and I am having an issue. I usually get much of my advice from googling around and that leads me to xda, so since googling hasn't solved my issue I figure I'd make an account here. the problem I'm having is with Link2sd. When I first installed cm13 link2sd wasn't working, it threw an error for mount scripts, an issue resolved at the following link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=65411424&postcount=19
For those who don't wanna click I typed in terminal (on the phone)
su
cd dev/block/vold
ls
ln -s public:179_66 179:66 (my directory was 179_66)
doing so solved the issue.
However after I started experiencing google play error code 504 when trying to install previously installed and uninstalled apps I found that the only solution was a factory reset (even titanium backup wouldn't work).
The first time I factory reset to solve this issue I had reset the SD card and backed up all the data, making sure to re-partition the second partition to ext2 like I had before, and link2sd worked fine.
I again experienced the same 504 issue when trying to reinstall a previously installed app so naturally I did the same process I did previously however this time after I do the terminal process to recreate the mount scripts for link2sd and reboot, and then after reboot I link the apps to the SD and reboot again for any reason, cm13 stays at the "jflte optimized cyanogenmod13" loading screen.
If I pull the battery and remove the SD card and then try to boot, everything boots fine, of course without the apps that are linked to the SD. If I put the SD card back in with the phone on, link2sd demands I recreate the mount scripts again or reboot. no matter what option I choose the phone will stay stuck at the cm13 loading screen. I read in a couple xperia threads something about an init.d script where the solution to that being to install init.d toggler from the play store and enabling init.d. I have tried this and still find myself stuck at the cm13 loading screen.
Can anyone offer an alternative solution to the ones that I have tried? I'm open to anything.
I think you should flash the stock firmware. There might be no other way. Either install the backup if you've made previously using custom recovery.

I haven't tried that yet, but that will have to be my next step. I've tried wiping dalvik&cache and then wiped everything and reinstalled the original cm13 zip I had, but I still get the same result. Link2sd was working for a time, so something happened to make it not work and continue to not work now..

Hmm I'm certain that would surely work for you.
I fixed both the issues. Very stupid solutions, almost too stupid to mention, and I feel stupid for not thinking of it. Solved the stuck at boot issue by not linking all the apps at once and instead linking five or six at a time then rebooting and repeating until all my apps were finally linked. Solved the google play 504 error by going into link2sd and selecting the "clean up second partition" option, the apps wouldn't install because there were still files linked from the previous time I had installed it. Thank you for your help.

Bricked and need help

NM: I've was able to flash 10.3.4...but my internal storage got wiped out. It's saying I have 105GB of 108GB free...I have backups but my backup is corrupted since I forgot to remove my security pattern...oh well...

HI!
I tried looking in the 255 error thread but couldn't find a solution and was thinking maybe it has something to do with the -32 version of TWRP so I went to the TWRP thread but no answer so here I am hoping someone here can help.
I made a backup however I found out later that I had forgotten to remove my security pattern prior to backup. Don't know if that's the issue but upon doing a restore I'm getting the dreaded 255 error. I also forgot to run magisk uninstall and don't know if that's the issue too (yeah, not a good idea to be working on stuff like this in the middle of the night and lacking sleep).
I haven't rebooted yet fearing I won't be able to get in.
I have since tried running the magisk uninstall (gave me an error - didn't write it down and now I can't see it anymore).
Tried installing magisk again (installed ok).
Install 10.3.4 ROM and that went ok.
Still not rebooted - thinking the install of 1.0.3.4 might have solved my problem I reinstalled TWRP -32 and then tried restoring my backup again. Of course I still have the 255 error.
I hoping someone has gone down my path or have some advise so that I can restore my backup.
Again, I still haven't rebooted yet so maybe that's my issue?
Edit: So, I rebooted and it gives me a crash dump. I can get into TWRP still but tried flashing the full 10.3.4 rom and it completes but it just goes into the crash dump again. I noticed while looking at Filemanager in TWRP all the filenames in storage are jumbled. Does that mean the encryption is messed up and I am hosed? I've tried searching but there's just so much information I'm a bit tired and am hoping someone point me to the right direction and maybe let me know if I can still recover. Thanks

Yes you have to format data
Forget the backup it's useless
Format Data install 10.3.4 and magisk to both slots and your back in business
