Hey guys I'm with the Htc sensatio right now and I'm thinking of moving over to the s2. I've heard that the screen on the s2 is accually better then the galaxy nexus and it is 8mp vs 5mp. What do?

you see, the thing im most worried about is the nexus is a newer phone, but it seems like a downgrade from the s2 other then its screen size and resolution, I'm pretty sure s2's screen is better then the nexus too. But of course the nexus line is pretty reliable, I've owned the original nexus b4. Will the s2 beat the nexus at everything as soon as ics comes to s2?

Please whatever you do, dont listen to this guy. I played with the galaxy nexus as bell already has it available and it is NOT an upgrade in screen or speed. Everybody seems to be sucking up to this phone for some reason. Its not nearly as smooth as you think just flipping through the homescreens. A live wallpaper like the microbes will slow it down like crazy-ever seen lag from a live wallpaper on the sgs2??(the current excuse is its poorly coded lol). Using the internet is not even close to being as smooth either-you can even see it in almost all review online yet they still say its amazing. Please use it first before you go out and buy one.
No sd slot, camera on front and back not on par with sgs2 by a long shot, the screen is less vibrant and more pixelated, cpu is worse, gpu is worse, phone is too tall to even reach the status bar unless you really stretch (im 6'1 with big enough hands) and battery life is reportedly worse (will improve with custom roms im sure).
The only real advantage the nexus has is updates, which is a strong advantage.
I honestly went out with the intention of buying it but it was a definite downgrade.
I haven't seen the GNS and am wanting to know if its better. I like the post above but this has been covered a million times before. Although its nice that Borat dropped in to start another thread.

well if u dont count on nexus's slightly bigger screen and abit more pixel then, S2 is one update away from being better than nexus
and just for the sake of defending S2 8mp camera makes whole alot difference in picture u take
i feel bad about nexus so ill defend it also XD Nexus have zero shutter lag meaning.. when u press "take photo" for S2 it takes 0.5 - 1.5 ( no idea what is exact ) then it takes picture but nexus has zero lag which takes immediately.. so u wont miss the "good" situation/expression or anything else u want to capture
People have compared the S2 to the Nexus.
Nexus has faster browser speed. But these comparisons don't make sense because ICS has not been released with its fixes officially for the S2. And the Nexus benefits from these fixes.

I'm in the same dilemma but I already have the s2
From Galaxy SI the following specs were upgraded in SII.
+ FULL HD recording
+ Dual Core
+ Super Amoled Plus (improved battery drain)
+ 8 MP camera
+ Much better GPS
From SII following specs downgraded in Nexus
- removed sd card slot
- 5 MP camera
- pentile super amoled (higher battery drain)
- slower GPU
- slower CPU
Other than ICS, Nexus doesn't bring anything extra or better than SII.

For every user who loves to customize his phone the Galaxy Nexus is much better than the Galaxy S II.
You'll see real high quality custom roms by time, not only rethemed stuff like on s2.
I was referring to Specs only.
I agree with most points you mentioned, but there is nothing really outstanding in Nexus device, other than the new concept of full screen mobile phones which was now introduced by Galaxy Nexus and Nokia N9.

I get your view point on the nexus being easier to work with as a developer-especially in your case but...
-screen is NOT better, i have spent time with it and it just isnt
-shutter is great if it had a great camera
-faster updates is a given and the main pro
-touchwiz actually improved things like the camera interface, dialer and gpu acc. browser which has yet to be matched in smoothness even by the nexus
-the processor lags, im sorry but it just does
-aosp, again goes with the updates pro
Im just disappointed that they couldnt do better because i really did want it. Roms arent rethemed (though many are). I think the devs deserve some credit their with the work on the S2.
If you ask me, the nexus crown still belongs to the N1
i have a GS2 but could've gone for the GN but with the massive battery drain on the GN i decided to just stick on the GS2 but still in dilemma as i love the bigger and design of the GN..
ICS was the main reason i switched from ip4 to GS2, i have NO regrets switching devices and love the android!
i just don't like the looks of my white GS2 a bit because of how it looks like a clone of a 4-inch iphone and the home button that really looks like the leaked 4 inch iphone's home button too other than that they're all good to me.. if it weren't for that quick battery drain of the GN, i'd go for it..
anyway just my opinion..

Theres no question that when it comes to hardware, the galaxy s 2 is better than the galaxy nexus. the prime's big advantage is ICS. thats the star of the show nobody cares about the damn phone itself. the S2 GPU and CPU are better than the one thats in the prime. Just imagine the S2 coming out today with ICS and the prime with ICS, which one will you buy?
I posted this in the Note 2 forums aswell but I'm just curious as to what you guys think, having presumably had the phone for a while. I'm planning on getting a S4 that's brand new tomorrow as a swap for my Note 2 which I've had for 3/4 months. Any thoughts?

I think it depends on your taste and needs. I prefer S4 as it is not that big, yet has a marvelous display and is fast enough for my daily use.
I did, am happy!
I did the switch after using Note 2 for over half a year.
I'm very happy with its size (got tired of holding Note 2) and its display.
Once official CM build for I9500 is released, I'm sure I'll be even happier.
Cheers!
As a person who did this, I'll help you decide with some simple questions.
Do you hate warm devices? The S4 gets hot compared to the almost always room temp Note 2.
Do you want to root it? No? Get it if the above doesn't bother you.
Yes? If you stay on stock kernel, then again, get it. If not, you might have some very annoying camera lag issues. If you don't use the camera a lot you'll live with it, but it might ruin some moments, or keep your friends doing awkward faces while the camera loads.

+1 for Camera lag issue
What kind of lag issue? I was debating between the Note 2 and S4 and ended up with an S4. I am very happy with my decision. S4 has no camera lag issues and no issues anywhere else. I'm almost always on my phone doing whatever and no lags....yeah it gets hot from time to time but that's normal if your playing a big graphic and processing hogging game and/or always on the internet uploading and downloading.
Sent from the Nexus 7
I don't have a Note II to tell you the main differences, however I believe you should hold on to your Note until next S comes if you're really willing to change your device . My cellphone before S4 was a Xperia X10 Mini Pro lol (yea, it's from 2010), Note II is still a recent and nice device! However if you really want to change now I'll tell you my experience with GT-I9505:
Pros:
FAST AS HELL! Can run any game on it with no problems
Display is amazing, vivid colors and very sharp quality. Jaw dropping quality IMO.
Slim and light.
Easy to root, good developer forums (at least GT-I9505)
Installed AOSP 4.3 and is even faster now (GT-I9505G = GT-I9505)
Superb camera (dad has a HX-1 camera from Sony, because of the fast processor I was able to take 3-4 photos while he was taking one, however you can't compare quality lol, not that S4 camera is bad, it's one of the best now, but Sony HX-1 is a CAMERA, while S4 is a CELLPHONE)
Sound is fine (will discuss later about this one in *Cons*)
Cons:
Gets really hot
Battery don't last too long (6-9h with moderate usage)
Screen too bright
Speaker placed in the bottom (after using my Nexus 10 with front speakers you notice the difference, I see myself putting my S4 over something without the speaker touching the surface to get better sound)
The personal opinions:
Screen size - Depends of your interest, I found it the perfect size for me (I'm 190cm with huge hands lol)
Beautiful device overall - I think it is at least
Physical "Home" button - I'm looking at you HTC One
That's it, hope it clarifies a little. Closing up:
This review was based on my experience with GT-I9505, I don't know about the GT-I9500, however viewing from developer perspective I'd recommend you getting the GT-I9505, as it's similar to GT-I9505G and has official CM support .

Wow. Thank you guys for all the feedback, I am a pretty small guy to be honest with small hands, that was why I was compelled to get a smaller device without losing any of the software features and the S4 seemed the only viable option to me, however saying that, I think I'd be best off waiting, the overheating seems abit of a problem as I do make long calls daily and the lack of use of custom kernels without the camera bugging up is a bit of a shame as I was looking forward to using it alot. But anyway guys, thanks for the help !!

It does, but only if you use a custom kernel. The lag gets even worse when using third party apps, sometimes it even reboots.
Stock kernel doesn't cause these issues.

The only time I've seen my S4 lag after a picture is if I have "Night Mode" on. After every picture it would say "processing." Once I turned that off, all the pictures that I've taken just snapped and kept it moving. I also have the review off. No point if your the type to take several pics and just keep the one that you like the most. That's what I normally do.
Feel free to ask.

assuming you've owned other similarly sized flagship phones, does the tiny bezel and increased screen size make a dramatic difference?
What's the very first on screen button to the left of home, back, and menu? And is it possible to toggle off some of the settings in the pulldown to remove some of the clutter? Also, what carrier is that one pictured on?
The speed is fast. I have been using Note 2, and it is definitely much faster. However, I found my note 2 substantially slower than my Galaxy s3.
The slim bezel make the phone much much easier to handle than my old Galaxy s3. I really like the feel.
The phone is really plasticky. So if you don't like plastic, this is not for you. But I like it light.
The left foremost icon is the Q menu, and it allows you to do a quick memo, either using the current screen shot or a blank memo notepad. I find this to be useful. Yes, it can be toggle off and you can choose different menu buttons (3 or 4 and different sequence). But you can't choose the multi-task button. Too bad.
I don't know if I like the button on the back... Especially if you have one of those flip cover. Once it is flipped, then how do you press the button. I think this is dumb. I will ditch the flip cover. Alternatively, you can double tap the center of the screen (when off) to turn on. I don't find this reliable. This can be fixed by firmware, I hope... This can be really useful.

Could you take some low light photos? Preferably use some other phone if you got to compare with.
Does it Lag?????. Have you noticed it throttling?, how hot does it go?, what's the battery like?. What's gaming like?....
It doesn't lag . but I never had much with my gs3. I had lag with note2. Definitely faster than gs3.
Battery is really average. I have only 30% left after 10 hours. I used to be able to run 18-20 hours with my gs3 (exynos) . Maybe a lot of background sync since it is new. I will be able to tell after a few more days. The us version has a 15% bigger battery.
I am out on the street now. Will do some photos later.

Very nice its like the best from Galaxy S4 and HTC One.
Did you get the quadbeat headphones with the lg g2? Do they sound good?
Looks like you are not using Stock launcher, correct ? Is the Status bar transparent with 3rd party wallpapers ? With the stock launcher in the menu can you do "Pinch to see the overview" like in the home screen. Galaxy S3&4 have this feature.
Most importantly please provide your review on GPS and wifi performance. Are you happy with the multitasking performance, seamlessness ?
Overall you think this is on par with Samsung Galaxy's ? I mean the quality and being able to deliver what was promised. Not just have features on the paper.
You mentioned "Knock Knock" feature is laggy sometimes. It's a bummer for me. I was counting on that feature. I really need that. I heard you can on/off the screen by "Knock Knock".
Hi,
I am wondoring whether it sounds so good as promised?

You make a hole for them just like any other button, check the accessory section and there is a few cases being made for launch.
On another note, when using another launcher, does the KnockOn work to turn the screen off? Or does it have to be stock launcher?
The All new HTC One (M8) will soon arrive :fingers-crossed:
And you want to talk about it :fingers-crossed:.
But all you could post would be off-topic to HTC One M7 Forum .
So here is the solution: This thread is meant as a catch-all thread for HTC One (M8) related stuff. It is accepted by moderating staff and will be in place until the M8 will get its own forum. Then it will be moved there.
Here is how it will work:
- Only post M8-related stuff here, no comparisons, no off-topic.
- All forum rules of HTC International forums apply
- Post ALL M8 related stuff here. Do not open new threads as they will be closed eventually by moderators.
MOD Edit: Examples of things allowed in this thread:
- Release dates
- Hardware speculation (no comparisons)
- Software speculation (again no comparisons)
- Leaked Pics/Vids
Please stick to these simple things and you will be able to talk about the next big thing without getting your stuff removed or closed.
Cheers guys

No answer available yet afaik. But I bet there will be one. And as the One was the first HTC that had a Google Edition, there is no "usually" yet. The "Google Edition" in principle was invented after the One (M7) was released, so I guess this time it won't take long.
Thanks
I'm just curious about two things. Battery life and camera quality. These are the two things that really irked me about my One. SD card looks like it's there but I can manage with 32gb on the phone. I just want a battery that lasts long enough. I see people on here getting 5 hours screen on but only with WIFI and/or having brightness at 0.
As for the camera. I hardly use it since its gone purple and I haven't got a spare phone to send it off. Also the low megapixel count really was an issue when looking at pictures on a PC or TV. Fine for Instagram and Facebook but thats it
Watched viral video of HTC One M8
I found these changes good & bad according to me
GOOD
SD card
Dual rear camera
Big battery
Next level single piece aluminum body
Notification light position & style
Power button placement
BAD
No beats audio (I know mini max was without that & beats gone)
Headphone jack at bottom huh
HTC bezel still there with same size and onscreen button ( developers looks like a fool ) best way make HTC glowing & function as home
Setting no color all white ( this is not 1956 B/W TV )
Some people also expected fingerprint scanner
Back looks more round not good for put on flat surface and use
Some also expected water resistant body

Upgrading to the M8?
What I like: 3 gig of ram, SD800 processor, SD card slot. What I really don't like is the onscreen buttons. I use Nova Launcher and have my M7 configured 6 rows by 7 columns. The 7th row is the dock. But with the M8 it may not be possible to get 6 rows because of the space the onscreen navigation buttons take up. I may not be able determine the number of useable rows until I get the M8 in my hands and install Nova launcher. When you are short on space, the icons will partially cover up the text below the icons. Anyone using Nova launcher have any thoughts on this? Here is my present homescreen :

Got to say from the leaked video everybody seen there's really nothing that's going to make me want to upgrade, I mean to be fair it's last year's hardware and same screen, except camera, i feel the design has taken a step back really only thing I liked was the gunmetal colour, yes it will have bigger battery better camera and be a bit quicker +sd , i suppose what's really annoying me is the on screen button's, just doesn't make sense having on screen and still having the part with the htc logo, was really looking forward to it and all, think I'll be giving it a miss
Yeah I don't know why they messed it up with keeping the HUGE bottom bezel with on screen buttons. Will still probably get one

Another "meh, me too" here. Woohoo - green blink feed . You can see from my list below how many HTC's I've had and also bought for the rest of the family too, son, wife, managed to get HTC as the phone of choice at work too but with the ridiculously slow (and possibly broken) recent update, the complete lack of imgination which has gone into the next model (if indeed that is it in the video), returned units for purple tint this year, I'm gonna have a look around the competition this year and throw some money at them for once. Not good enough htc (from last year and what appears in that video), sorry.

Is that bottom bezel really like that or is this just the developer (I know it's there wishful asking lol ). Do the onscreen at least dissappear in the browser ?

I personally won't be getting the M8 at any point. It doesn't really feel like an upgrade and I'm still just as happy with the One as when I got it.
We'll get the Sense 6 update on the M7 pretty quickly anyway + I've got no qualms with my current battery life or camera quality. Even expandable storage isn't something which would make me want to upgrade considering I'm finding 32GB to be enough anyway.
As I said right from the beginning (as can be seen in my review found in my sig), this is the first HTC device I've had and I've definitely been impressed so as long as HTC can keep up with this level of build quality and beast of a phone, I'll surely consider getting more HTC's in the future.

Was really hoping the phone that kid had was a prototype, but it's too genuine and finished looking, and also it looked like he had it for a while too, even though people got to see the m8, that kid and that video ruined it and i think that is the general feeling, I know the phone will be better but it shouldn't be seen like that for the first time, the HTC one was and is a great phone and a more mature and grown up experience, people bashed blinkfeed and the camera but most agree now that blinkfeed brings something different, other companies have tried similar but there not the same, and in fairness the camera is good people expect to much, just look at how popular that selfie at the Oscars was with what 2mp, did anyone say that picture was ****?

The onscreen buttons didn't dissappear while i was browsing. Only on the homescreen, the black bar with the buttons is transparent (see image below).
When the device is locked the three buttons are replaced with an arrow and you can swipe up for google now.
Also, the padlock supports swipe up to unlock, swipe right for blinkfeed and swipe left (for me it does the same as swipe up).

The main thing which got people liking BlinkFeed more was the ability to remove it natively.
Pre-Sense 5.5 I didn't like BlinkFeed and moved it to a different screen until a dev was able to remove it. Within a few days of the update and therefore being able to remove it without flashing anything, I really started to like it and use it much more often.
I understand that HTC wanted to force it upon people so that they'd like it BUT they'd have had more success if they had that feature from launch.

The onscreen buttons didn't dissappear while i was browsing. Only on the homescreen, the black bar with the buttons is transparent (see image below).

Hate to hear that about the browser. So they made the screen a tad bigger but will actually have less real estate to browse with in actuality. I wish they would have left that part alone. Also the pic can't open?

Phone Arena's head to head comparison show that the iPhone and G3 launch apps faster. I can't believe Samsung puts in the best phone processor, but had no care for the end user of a fluid experience, and appears to have put in zero work in making touch wiz faster. Any thoughts?
If that's the case, then I'm sticking to my m8. I couldn't stand that on the note 3.

I was running some tests on a HP Gen8 server sometime back, it was taking time and sort of freezing a few times.
It had 512GB of RAM, quite a few Xeon processors and tons of other stuffs. It was still "lagging" in many tests.
Do you think I should take this server out and put Moto X, as apparently it doesn't lag.
Samsung phones do a lot more than any other phone. There are many options that you can use in Samsung phone that you won't ever find it a simple phone. And hence there is a tradeoff. It's the law of nature. The very idea of getting a Samsung phone is that you are not getting a normal bare-bone stock device. It's has bells and whistles. It your objective is to have a phone with bare minimum features, get some other phone.
If you get a Samsung phone you might see delay of 0.5 sec for some basic thing, not that I ever care about them. Not it's for your to decide whether you are interested in that half-second of time or do you think those added functionality is more important to you. Just a simple trick like slide to call/SMS is such amazing in a Samsung device.
i cant stand my G3. note 3 didnt lag as much as this pos
Meh, it's a demo model, we don't know which processor it had in it, and it's running a pre-production unit of the new touch wiz. That, and half those tests were bunk, email on the G3 had 2 emails, the note 4 had about 100, same with Gallery. I'll wait for a real comparison before I even look at these speed tests.

I agree with that. My G3 definitely has more lag than the Note 3 I had before it.
Some people say the G3 has less lag when you use the ART runtime, but I have a few apps that are not ART compatible so can't test that.
I doubt the Note 4 will be worse than the G3 in terms of lag. I'll test out when the Note is in stores. If it IS slower then I just won't buy it. Simple.

I seriously wish I would have kept my One M8 instead of going to the G3.
But I get 'new, shiny syndrome' sometimes. Lol
On the other hand I'm displeased enough with the G3 that I doubt I'll regret getting rid of it.
Ready for the Note 4 to hit stores...

me too cant wait for note 4!!
I wish I could have waited for a note4 but my upgrade was burning a hole in my pocket and I picked up the GS5 in April. I love this phone but I want the big screen. I would gladly trade my Sprint GS5 and a Sprint GS3 for this bad boy.
Samsung finally learned to lighten up TouchWiz a bit.
My S5 is completely lag-less. At least as good as the Nexus 4 or S4 mini with CM11, i had before.
Note 4 has a higher resolution but also more power.
(Only 'lag' may be the Home button, because its waiting for a second press (S Voice) - but you can disable that.)

Hehe
What i 'dislike' most is the camera. Everything else is great.
The camera is not bad (and still one of the best) but its not as superior as Samsung made me / us believe.

I have a note 2 on Verizon. I think that as an expensive premium device, even for all these "extra features" like you guys say, there is NO EXCUSE for lag! It has the absolute latest phone processor in it, and they even developed their own. What's the point if everything lags and is slow anyway?
My HTC One Max is just as fast as the M8 and MUCH faster than note 3 with metal all around not just on sides and BoomSound speakers are as good as the ones on M8 not single tiny speaker on the back like Note 4.

I am sure you go to every thread in this community and you will find at least 1thread discussing about slow sluggish and lags.
Our human tendency is we want note never satisfied with what we've already got
Emotion Revolution coming soon on Note 4 (Aosp,Miui,Touchwiz, &Nadia kernel) I am ready to note!! Are you ???
Well I rooted my Note 3 and installed some apps like Seeder, Lag Fix and an app which auto restarts my phone once a day, closing all background apps. It has pretty much eliminated all the lag except the Gallery. For that I installed Nexus Gallery from the store. Still I may think twice before upgrading to another Samsung device.
It is being reported by users, that the TMo OTA update that is being pushed out today solves the recent apps button lag. Nice to see Samsung react to an issue and push out an update.
Now I just get to wait for AT&T to release the update and all will be good.
