I have a stock S5 that I just bought. After a couple days I started noticing an extremely long delay when doing anything with text messages. I hit send and it just sits there. I can't hit back or anything. The home button will take me home. When sending I don't even see my message until everything returns. Anyone have any idea what may be causing this? TIA
Try clear data/cache and force stop for the app?

Thanks for the reply. I gave that a try with no luck. I cleared cache but afraid to clear data because it says it will permanently delete everything.

Clear data will clear all your messages and makes the app like its still new. Probably a corrupted message file or anything can affect its performance.

So it will delete my messages?
This seems to be a well known issue with the S5 although the suggestions don't seem to fix my problem. The solutions also say to clear cache and data on the Samsung keyboard.
Maybe power-saving mode? It kinda lags the mobile. Reduces performance of some stuff to lag to save some battery. Not sure tho

You can back up text messages, i would try that and clear data, see how it goes, if it does nothing then just restore the back up.

Power saving mode is off. I thought this was related to using the Samsung Smart Switch app to recover everything from my iPhone. So I deleted everything, cleared the cache and data from the message app and the Samsung keyboard app. No luck with that either. However, I did discover the AT&T app for messaging that came pre-loaded on the phone and remembered another article that suggested trying another default messaging app. So I did and that seems to work much better. I know it's not a fix, but at least it's a workaround I can live with. I actually like this app because I have text, call history, and my visual voicemail all in one app.
There are plenty of complaints around the internet about this "bug" so maybe it will be something that gets addressed in Lollipop next month.
Mine lags because of the amount of messages I have stored. Will try to clear cache, but I don't think it works
Well if you looking for a messaging app, google's messenger app is pretty good too!

Hi all,
Could someone check to see if their Friends stream is working, mine stopped working a few days ago so I tried logging out of my Facebook account and back in again and I just keep getting an error saying that the service is unavailable.
The Android Facebok app works fine.
my friendstream and htc peep/facebook are all working fine

Damn, I wonder what's wrong with mine then.
I did a search and found someone saying that by clearing the "cache" that worked for them, I know how to clear Internet cache etc. however is there any other cache on an Android phone that I'm not aware of.

I'm having this problem. The clear icon in call settings only fixes it temporarily. What program did you clear the cache for?
Same problem here after the GB update, non rooted. I have cleared the cache, and gone to settings>call> clear notification, about 10 times, but it pops back up in about 10 minutes.
Its annoying, hopefully someone posts a fix.

I cleared google voice cache. I just recieved another rogue voicemail. I am also a non-rooted user.
Can someone please help?
Ugh... what an annoying problem. What annoys me the most is my girlfriend, whose phone has pretty much identical settings and apps to mine, does not have this problem...
...also, what's really odd is that when I get an actual voicemail, it is a different icon that shows up for it, and then I have 2 voicemail icons. So this rogue icon must come from something different then visual voicemail. I don't use google voice either so it's not that.
Its a left over voicemail from your phone before android. Heres a link for how to get rid of it. I just did as explained but I still have it. Its a hit or miss I guess

I DID IT!!! Go into Titanium BackUp and look for [VOICEMAIL] Dialer 2.3.4,select that and then wipe data, voicemail icon is GONE Of course I had to do the fix the OP posted as well, Thanks OP. Who knows though, try to wipe data first, you may get lucky...

I'll see your annoying and raise you one weird
Stock Rom - phantom voicemail icon
Fresh Rom - phantom voicemail
ValePak - no phantom voicemail
MikFroyo - no phantom voicemail.
I can switch all day long (and believe me, I have) and it doesn't change.
Also having this issue.. quite annoying. Searching everywhere for a fix.
This is happening to me too. I have cleared it several times and it keeps coming back.
I tired all kinda of solutions. Downgraded back to 2.2 and its gone.
Oh and my gps works again, 2.3 broke that too .. hah
I have the same issue. Went to the sprint site and this is what i found.

Hangouts crashes trying to send SMS after 4.4.3 upgrade. 3rd Party apps do the same. As soon as you start typing hangouts crashes.
You disabled "Messaging" before the upgrade and can't re-enable it. "Enable" is grayed out in the Settings->Apps menu.
Solution
---------
In the Settings->apps menu - the 3 dots menu has a "Reset App Preferences" option. It re-enables ALL disabled apps. This will fix sending SMS/MMS. You can't have it disabled in 4.4.3 safely.

Anyone else noticing hangouts crashing whenever you try to type out an SMS? I can't seem to send them at all now. It crashes as soon as I start to type.
Happened right after 4.4.3 upgrade. I tried to clear hangouts data but to no avail.

Also it sounds just like this here: https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/hangouts/4i6nKG-d2_M
But I don't have delivery reports and I can't enable messaging. It's disabled in settings->apps.

Sorry, can you move this to Q/A? My bad.
OK I found a fix. In the apps menu - the 3 dots menu has a "Reset App Preferences" option. It re-enables ALL disabled apps. Not ideal since I'll have to re-disable the others I don't want. But at least it gets messaging re-enabled.
That makes SMS work again oddly enough. Just need to deal with having a "messaging" app in the drawer that I don't use I guess.

Nice! Thanks for posting the fix, could come in handy for me once I switch to 4.4.3 as I have 68 services/apps frozen =P
I also had this issue. I factory reset, which is usually a decent idea after updates. It definitely had something to do with messaging being disabled and I couldn't reenable it either. Glad you found an alternate fix, loving the update so far

Yeah if I had been rooted and done titantium backup recently, that would have been my approach too. I didn't want to have to redo all my apps and settings etc. Glad I didn't have to.
I didn't use TiBu to restore. It's weird but this phone is the first that I don't really back things up like I used to. Mostly cause I have no risk of breaking stuff via flashing nightlies and the like. I've had iffy experiences restoring old data on to new builds so I started from scratch. So far so good.
Yeah I had this too. After the update, i could receive but not send SMS/MMS. Had the stock app previously disabled and then the enable button was gone. Drove me absolutely crazy last night and most of today. Tried half a dozen SMS apps and even downloaded two entire Roms to get their MMS.apk and try to install them (which did not work at all). Even deleted all my messages with an SMS backup app. Nada. Moto support (obviously bad idea) said to clear cache for entire phone, which totally could have worked but was completely unhelpful. I did dozens of Google searches about it and came up empty every time. I was just about to give in to a factory reset, which I consider the my last resort, and I checked the action overflow in the disabled apps section and found the "reset app preferences". Then just browsing XDA for battery tips a few minutes later, I came across then. I even checked the Dev section earlier. But I guess I should have checked general. Thanks for putting this out there for others to find.
Thanks for this solution. Made life better for me. I guess 4.4.3 doesn't allow us to disable the messaging app.
You are the man! I thought I was the only one having the problem. Thank you! :good:
me too. I can't believe it took me this long to find this thread. Not being able to send texts was a bummer. I was using some feature called "voicemal.":silly:
Ive a problem when trying to activate the Power Saving mode in settings.
when i press it i always get a Force Close on the Settings app. i can press the quick settings button in the notification area, but that does not seem to activate anything.
anyone has any idea? should i try to clear data on the settings app? or will i lose all of my settings?
thx
Anyone any idea?
I noticed that it works now when I use the quick settings tile in the notification pull down. Don't know if that's because I rooted and Uninstalled a bunch of samsung apps.
Anyways it's now also visible as activated in settings, but clicking in settings results in an fc still.
Another thing I noticed is that gsam battery monitor does lose battery stats from time to time, maybe that's because of the same problem.

Please be absolutely sure about what systems apps do you want to remove, specially if they are Samsung packages. I'm cannot be sure but it looks like that is what's causing the issue.

If that is the case, try clearing cache from the Recovery and see if that works. If not, you can always try flashing the latest firmware!
Ok i will try tomorrow. But one question : where can I find the last firmware. I am pretty new to a Samsung device.
Thank you for your help
Edit:
I tried to clear cache and art cache. nothing has changed.

With as crappy as the coding on Facebooks app is who knows. I have not seen this and I am on 9
Hmm, discouraging. I've cleared cache, deleted data, uninstalled and installed the app to no avail.
I am on totally stock unrooted 9
I am having similar lockups on multiple apps. Stock-unrooted aug 6 build of P and I tried a full device reset.
Not seeing any app issues same release of P ...hmm have you done a cache clear on the device? Meaning the os not indevidual apps.

I get exactly the same thing on my stock Pixel 2 XL since upgrading to Pie. However, it works fine on a Pixel 1.
I've tried uninstalling FB and re-installing and no joy.
The Facebook Lite app works ok, but that's garbage and doesn't have all the functionality I need.

Being out of the scene for a while, how do you delete the dalvic cache... ie how do you put the PH-1 in recovery, and do you have the delete cache in stock recovery?
Edit : I did put the phone in recovery mode but, as I expected, the stock recovery image does not have the delete cache option like a custom recovery. Hmm surprised to read that not even a factory reset solved the issue.
I've never used the FB app. Who knows what it is doing when you aren't using it, even if it is closed/stopped.
Better way...open your browser, instead of going to www.facebook.com, go to www.m.facebook.com which
loads the mobile version, and in your browser settings, you can always use the desktop version if needed.

More likely an issue with your Facebook account. Facebook has AI doing code corrections all the time in the background. They also sometimes fubar stuff and then correct it a couple of days later. This has happened to my account more than once.
Mystery of Technology... LOL, no, more like Bugs of Technology, and Pie just came out, so expect plenty of them until it matures a bit...
