I've been trying some vesrions of kod (rc2, rc3 for x86) and played with the video hardware acceleration config with no luck, I get a lot of crashes when I'm seeing videos.
I've wanted to know if someone has found a good build/config without (a lof of) crashes
UPDATE:
Version 14.0 for ARM is working good.

+10 for the ARM version.
x86 builds would sour in a day or two. RC 3 ARM version has been up and running for a couple of days now with no crashes.

am i understanding correctly that you guys are using the arm version on the nexus player
and this is working better
i previously had the arm version (by accident, downloaded the wrong one)
no crashes but the audio fell out of sync alot on live and recorded tv shows (mpeg2 .ts)
when the final version 14 came out today i installed x86 version
i have no audio sync issues at all but now i get crashes sometimes
should i be trying the arm version?

I was using 13.2 for the first few days and XBMC would crash after about 15-20 minutes of watching a video from my external HDD. Since I downloaded the beta build of Kodi v14/the ARM version, it has run flawlessly. Also, Kodi shows up in the main launcher as opposed to having to launch it from Sideload launcher
just overwrote the x86 version with the arm version
it is running much better (not crashing)
still get audiosync issues on final version (every 15-20 minutes)
it seems the audio sync issues happen at the same time that the crash happens on the x86 version
BUT..
they correct themselves within a few seconds
so its improving

Here you go http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-player/general/kodi-app-nexus-tv-player-adt-1-t2980079 ... Be sure to set the acceleration settings like my instructions say. Follow the link in post # 1 to the Google+ community, scroll down to you see a photo like in post # 1 at the above link here, expand the post, their you will find the kodi download link, enjoy.
I've looked again at the kodi wiki for the nexus player and they indeed suggesting the arm build: http://kodi.wiki/view/Google_Nexus_Player
"Due to a problem in the x86 package of Kodi, we advice Nexus Player owners to install the ARM version. Once a proper fix has been found you can later on install the x86 version on top of the ARM one.
Beta builds: http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/android/arm/ Kodi 14.0 Helix Beta x APK (ARM) for Android
Nightly builds from master (latest unstable): http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/android/arm/ Kodi x APK (ARM) for Android"
I'm guessing they will update the wiki once the x86 build will be stable.
So I'll also try it out.
Tnx everyone!
I've tried kode 14.0 arm version for a few days now.
it runs pretty smoothly without noticeable crashes.
Been running the x86 final build since it released. Not a single crash. All settings are default, except that I have the library configured to group by sets. The only time that I have any issues is if I set my NP to export the video library while playing a video. This also happens on my Core 2 Quad Q6600 desktop, and it's not exactly a common usage case.
I would suggest not touching the hardware acceleration setting that seems to be causing so many issues. I've run 1080p H.264 encodes at varying bitrates with no issues, video or audio.

i've tried it with megavideo and i've got a lot of problem ... videos didn't start and grey screen , browser that close itself with no reason ...
I came back immediatly to 10.2.

It turns out that the recently circulating hulu-capable hacked version can and does play back at full 30fps in 720p on the Transformer. Success!
This lead me to question why it would work though. I downloaded this hacked version (Google search it, I won't link it here) and also downloaded the original 10.3.185.22 version it is based on (it's about 2 months old). Testing the hacked version and I do indeed get hardware accelerated 720p. I disassembled them to figure out what was changed between the hacked and the official version and the only change is one line in the Flash Player library that reports to the browser what version of flash is running (Sort of like a UA string hack for Flash). This isn't enough to disable hardware acceleration though, and guess what: strangely enough, I also get hardware acceleration on the non-hacked version as well. Crazy that!
So, the tl;dnr version: For some reason, the latest Flash Player does not accelerate 720p video. I still don't know why. An older version (10.3.185.22) DOES accelerate Flash and can be used to fix this nagging problem. Download it here:
http://www.filesonic.com/file/1037676654
OR HERE:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10724980/Flash.Player.10.3.185.22.Android.apk
To install:
First remove any installed version of flash (go to market -> my apps -> Flash Player -> uninstall)
Copy the downloaded .APK to your device and run. No root required, but you will need to turn on non-market app installs.
Before testing, reboot into recovery and wipe cache. (The whole point is to wipe the browser cache - People report that this helps. If you like, you can just go to settings -> applications -> manage applications -> All -> Browser -> Wipe Cache)
Test playback on 720p stream or use http://www.youtube.com/my_speed and look at what the 'video fps' tells you
EDIT: You may have to run this in the STOCK BROWSER. Opera calls the Froyo version of the library which does not allow for hardware accelerated playback.
Some other notes:
The youtube test video still reports software decoding - this is normal, it's looking for the PC HW accel module, which Android does not have.
Some people are still have trouble making this work. I'll admit, it's sort of like voodoo - I've torn through the files in the .APK and the only file that is changed in the old version is a compiled library that I can't (legally) decode. Without source code, I still can't tell you why it works for some but not for others.
Apparently some people never had problems in the first place. Congratulations - we don't need to hear about it here. Unless you know why it works for you and not for others, don't add to the length of this thread.
It's not the latest version, but nothing significant has been added since this one, and at least it works right!

This version is the modified 10.3.185.22 version that is NO DIFFERENT than the official .22 version except for the modification one line that tells the browser it is a Windows based version of flash instead of Android.
If you install this version of Flash, hardware acceleration works but you cannot update via the Market (even though it tell you that you have an update) because it will fail every time.
The official version I linked will not play Hulu but does update via the market and at least for now, seems to retain hardware acceleration.

Strange.
Gary, can you ADB to your device?
If so, can you
Code:
adb uninstall com.adobe.flashplayer
And then try installing this. Note that it does take a few seconds for the video framerates to stabilize due to some inherent WiFi flakiness in the ASUS drivers.

I don't have access to adb atm, but I figured uninstalling Flash through the GUI rather than adb would have the same effect (and I did uninstall Flash before installing that version). I also tried restarting the browser, cycling opengl on/off, and rebooting the entire device.
After the intro, it still falls to 3-5 FPS on youtube.com/my_speed on 720p.
just uninstall the hacked version then install market version and the ability to play 720p at 30 fps seems to persist.

To be honest, it really makes little sense why it works. The old version works and the new version works when updated via the market (though it shouldn't because it overwrites everything) so honestly, I can't really troubleshoot to any degree.
My advice would be to just nuke anything in the /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer location, then install my linked version. Install that, update via the market (You might have to reboot or use Titanium Backup to get it to attach to the market) and see if it works. There is no good reason why it didn't work in the first place, and there is even less why it works now. It's like a ghost in the machine.

It's not a limitation of the Tegra as much as it is a limitation of the screen size. With a larger screen you have more pixels to push and that strains the hardware when it's not designed for it. Unfortunately, the Tegra GPU wasn't ever really designed for tablet resolutions - but it works and they use it - it's just not going to match the only 480x800 display (in the SGS2) in terms of fluidness.

I have a similar issue. I uninstalled via settings/applications and then used terminal to verify that /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer did not exist.
I get about 6 fps. I even tethered to my phone to get a faster download because my DSL speed was too slow to keep up.
I have stock 3.1 rooted.
Yeah, it's becoming clear to me that this is not an exact science. There isn't actually any reason why it shouldn't hardware accelerate on the market version when it does on the hacked (or just plain old) version.
Note that the youtube.com/my_speed video does report two frame rates, one titled "stage fps" and one "video fps" - it's that second one that is reporting the true decode speed. Also, if you're seeing spinning dots in the middle, that's your internet too slow to keep up, not your device.
If you're having no luck with the official .22 point release I linked, try using the hacked version linked in the second post and see if that changes anything.

okay installed this flash (hulu verison) and now opera 11 shows that flash is not install...anyone else having this issue?
I tried the linked version as well- not sure what is different but it does have a different checksum.
Perhaps I have to actually watch a hulu video first?
--- I poked around at some of the methods and the ones that flash via clockwork mod also install some libs- perhaps that this the other piece of the puzzle? It's bedtime here, so 30 fps will have to wait until later...
After uninstalling the newest version and installing the .22 modified one I am getting 30fps and little dropped frames in the speed test on the stock browser. Unfortunately Opera is still showing around 10fps.

I've explained this in detail in the OP but basically the .apk just installs the libraries to it's personal /data/data/ directory and the browser is able to dynamically load them from there. There is no need to install additional libraries because all four of the shared libraries flash requires are installed by installing the .apk.

Yes, unfortunately, Opera loads the libstagefright_froyo.so instead of the libstagefright_honeycomb.so which is the required library for hardware accelerated playback. I'll mention this in the OP.

I did notice that a lot of the crashes at set up were to do with the input controller. I was trying to use the Minix A1 keyboard/remote, and xbmc really doesn't like it. Using nexus 7 and yatse (which is a much better choice anyway) works perfectly for hours on end.
In fact, I tell a lie, when using it to stream music from smb it does sometimes lock up.

Hello all,
Compared the the (un)official OUYA store XBMC v12 with the original test build I was using, based on Gotham Alpha 1 and libstagefright
http://mirrors.xbmc.org/test-builds/android/xbmc-20130219-32e99c7-android-hwaccel-armeabi-v7a.apk
and I found the OUYA store version doesn't render the SSA softsubs properly (the enable SSA subtitles toggle does not seem to work).
The v13 alpha version does render the SSA softsubs properly. Stability-wise both seem okay, but playback of large (>4GB) 1080p files over (SMB/Windows Share) network stutters (buffering...) during complex scenes or when you skip forward...
Playback of the same files over the same 100Mbps network connection (same cable/network switch port) on my old IONTop (Atom-ION Nettop) using an older version of XBMC over Ubuntu Linux on Nvidia ION (XBMCFreak) does not stutter...
Best Regards!
^_^
the stuttering you are getting is not a buffering problem it is a problem with the network being on the usb bus. There is a trick to help it out, refer to this thread and you should notice an improvement.

You can also set the buffering cache to "unlimited" through the advacesettings.xml.

This helped me loads streaming 720p over wifi.
From the sounds of it, I'm gonna stick with the alpha 1 release and wait for a full gotham release.

Hi chewyboy,
I tried the instructions given on the link (echo 16384 > /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes) but there was no improvement in my 1080p streaming from 100Mbps SMB connection...
I also tried setting <cachemembuffersize> in advancesettings.xml but still no significant improvement...
Large 1080p videos will eventually produce the "buffering..." message. 720p videos over SMB stream fine even with the default settings. These same files played using an external HDD connected to the OUYA USB port play fine...
Cheers!
^_^
P.S.
There was an update to the (un)Official XBMC on Ouya (at the Ouya store) and the SSA subtitle rendering problem was fixed!
The XMBC release version is v12... I wouldn't be too excited about this until more complete OUYA support comes with XBMC v13 in a few months. Some work-arounds (posted above) will definitely be needed because of the poorly implemented networking over USB bus...
According to the XBMC wiki, libstagefright is now included with the v13 nightly builds.
The latest is Alpha 6, link here (Alpha 7 should be out in a few days):

Alphas 2-5 were not so good. 1 & 6 were both very good... but both had strengths and weaknesses. Some nightlies have been O.K since libstage came built in but I must admit I stopped updating every day about 10 days ago. Will probably start again when the next phase starts in September.

Good morning Colonel.
It may be to do with the nightlies.... I'm using the XBMC from the wiki page (http://goo.gl/gkdvk) and then installed this repo: https://anarchintosh-projects.googl...ry.googlecode.anarchintosh-projects.1.0.1.zip , installed icefilms, and from there, everything worked just fine. Even the HD streams over wifi.... which surprised me to be fair.
I've not tried any of the nightlies because Alpha1 has been working so flawlessly.
I was watching a 1080p movie from a flash drive, and after about two hours it started stuttering pretty badly and the Ouya felt like it was 150F.

Beta 3.4
Updated librtmp.so to make more streams work (Thanks RedPenguin).
Changed default OSD button to Play/Pause instead of Subtitles.
Updated all Addons.
Hopefully Fixed Controller settings in OUYA version.
Minor Bug Fixes.
Beta 3.3
Updated Common Plugin Cache to hopefully fix the few having problems.
Updated Metadata TheMovieDB plugin.
Beta 3.2
Removed build.prop check completely (Thanks kandilak).
Fixed some remote control key bindings on non-standard remotes (Thanks alexagr).
Updated SuperRepo.
Added Fanart Slideshow option to Screensavers.
Removed Language button from OSD keyboard. It will be back in Gotham.
Brought back OpenGL Spectrum Visualization as an option.
Beta 3.1
Fixed missing dependencies.
Updated Subtitles.
Beta 3
Here is a list of some of the changes since Beta 2.9.
Fusion, Xfinity and Mashup sources are included by default. SuperRepo also included.
1Channel, Much Movies HD and Youtube are preinstalled and configured. I have included my own proxy to get around the 1Channel block in the UK, just select it from the 1Channel settings if you need it.
Lyrics, Subtitles, XBMC Backup, Missing Movie Scanner and Key Editor are installed and configured.
Main screen now has the Karaoke option and also has the Karaoke plugin installed and set up.
Option to use MX Player as the playback device in context menu (Local and Streams only, SMB does not work)
Family screen will now have main menu plus 2 sub menus (Animation and HD Family) which will auto populate as you add your Movies. The main Family menu contains only Family and Animation Genres, the Animation sub menu contains only Animation Genre and the HD Family sub menu contains only HD films of Family and Animation Genres.
Videos will only show the needed sub menus as sources are added to the Library(Movies, TVShows, etc).
Pictures now has a Slideshow sub menu and links to the backgrounds folder as an example.
The default layouts of each Window have been altered to use what looks best in my own opinion. You can set what you want afterwards.
Music Playback will now animate fanart automatically once you have some.
New cache settings which hopefully will be more compatible for everyone.
Update all addons.
Various other tweaks and changes.
Beta 2
Ok, here we go. Quite a few fixes and I have not had time to fully test all of it.
Fixed remote control movement in on screen keyboard.
Fixed context menu on long click of mouse/airmouse.
Added Fusion and Xfinity.
Changed RssFeed to BBC World News.
Changed Icons.
Changed Music Wallpaper.
Added Keymap Editor to Programs.
Added advancedsettings for cache.
Updated all addons.
Various other bug fixes.
Beta 1
Hardware Decoding
Mouse wheel support
New Graphics (Not finished yet)
A fully customizable version of Confluence skin as default. All other skins removed. (If you want it faster then enable minimum spec option in skin settings)
Audio offset by 250 ms to fix audio lag.
SuperRepo Included.
All addons brought up to date.
Install Instructions
Just install it like any other APK now with whatever build.prop you like.
If 720P does not work for you then this is not meant for your hardware. It was tested on RockChip Devices but appears to work on a lot of others.
Launcher version is only for roms that don't have a system bar. Auto hide function in any rom hides everything except anything classed as a launcher so it will show system bar if used on a normal rom. You could always rename SystemUI.apk to SystemUI.old and it will remove the bar completely but I don't advise it unless you know what you are doing.
It takes a long time on first run (about 2 minutes) while it sets everything up. The screen will go black and then it will go thru a few backgrounds, Just wait it out. It will launch normally after the first time.
If you find that the Interface it too slow on your device then go to Skin Settings and under "General" click on "Enable Minimum Specifications Settings".

I've always been on xda mate and have my own roms released here. I just post on freaktab because that's where everyone is with these stick/box's. Xda is dead with these devices.
Glad you're enjoying it mate.

I have to say though Freaktab has a bit more freedom and tolerance level, you can get smashed up here in XDA for giving an opinion .
The sticks are going to be very Mainstream pretty soon, the Chinese manufacturers need standardize a bit and be more consistent and open. They fear being copied and yet all they do is copy around.
The overall "Android Stick Computers" may need a Freaktab moderator, that way no rights would be disturbed and a proper list of roms for devices would make it even in a single thread.

I've never been afraid to give my opinion
As for the copying going on I don't even take much notice of it. You have companies like Minix who are purposely going against GPL 2 and releasing custom versions of XBMC locked to their devices and wont supply the source code. They wouldn't get away with that on XDA for a second. The only thing I can do is inform people of their tactics and advise them against supporting them.
Problem on EVOLVEO Smart TV box Q4
Hi!
Yesterday evening i installed on my box the Beyond XBMC Beta 3.3.
On first run it seems all normaly. But if the startup process was finished and the menu appearing if i choose something the app goes black and nothing..
I waited 5 min and after i go back to home screen. try start again but only black screen.
After reboot i click on app icon it comes a black screen and immadietly close.
I can't start. Only after if i delete the user data and cache for application is possible to start again.
I try'd to "Enable Minimum Specifications Settings". One time i turned successfully this option, but after go back to menu frozen again...
Any idea?
Thankseter

I have absolutely no idea why it would do this for you. I have installed this on over 10 different bits of hardware and it worked on every one for me (except the amlogic playback but I knew that wouldn't work). There are loads of posts over on freaktab also and no one has brought up anything similar. The first install does take a long time and you have to wait it out but after that it should launch quick.
Lets try and find out what is different for you. What machine is it? What OS is it running? What chipset is it?

Now that should work for you perfect. It is basically the same device as most of mine.
Which beta did you download, the normal one or the launcher version?
Hi!
The normal version.
Sent from my GT-P3110 using xda app-developers app
Hi people, I discovered this version a short time ago, and I've to say it's the best I had trying ever. I strongly recommend to all of you to try it.
But only have a doubt, I can't do the "extrafanart thing" work, I mean, while I am selecting a chapter in a TV show, show a slideshow of different fanarts... I look for in all the settings and not find how it works. Can anybody help me? I hope you can understand me... My English level is awful . Thank you all, and specially for the developer for such a great job!

Reply to myself...
I connected the ZERO Devices Z4C Quattro to the computer as Massive Storage, copied the APK directly by USB and installed successfully from there.
Nice version of xbmc and lets hope this fixes my py errors in some addons.
I don't know why the official gotham version isn't up to scratch, but mate, you saved the day! The entire purpose of my buying the MK908 was to get XBMC on it. When the videos started lagging with the official version, I thought my money and efforts were wasted. But YOU SAVED THE DAY!
Any ideo how to get the media center remote working with MK908.
As title states, I installed the 630 gpu plugin from the magisk repo, something interesting that I noticed though is if you go into developer options and hit "use gpu for screen composition" the whole screen goes black. A force reboot fixes it but does anyone know exactly why this does this?
Phone is 6T Tmobile, running international .17 no other mods. Magisk is version 20 on latest twrp 20.
why are you installing the plugin in the first place? I can't see how it would be beneficial - our gpu drivers are already up to date and optimised for thia specific phone model.
If you don't know, ask.. So I emailed the dev of that module. Will report back if I get an answer.

Oh and I believe that functionally forces GPU to render 2D elements like UI, instead of having CPU do it. Which is probably a bad idea as OS's have been in existence for dozens of years and they're still letting CPU handle those so there must be a reason. Probably about load spreading and saving the GPU for the real deal; hardcore gaming [emoji109]

About the module:
"Most of the flagships have the latest drivers. But many dont.
Like for example, many Custom ROMs for Poco still have v3xx drivers. It just for those who don't have the latest drivers. That is it!"
About the functionality:
"Yeah. That's correct. That might also draw more power is what I think.."
So you see? Don't just install stuff on your phone if you don't know what it does. OnePlus is a quick updater so this Magisk module is pointless on our device.
Kudos to Manuel Pinto for supporting our Poco friends!

Hello there,
The module is intended only for those that who aren't on the latest GPU driver. The module has v415 GPU Driver. If you have the same or maybe a newer version then this module is pointless.
However there are a lot of Device + ROMs that are still using old drivers (this module is intended for them).
It's my mistake that I should have made it clear in the description about all these things, but as other people were forcing me to push it to Magisk ASAP, I did it in a hurry by skipping the Description for the Magisk Module.
Sorry everybody!
I'll maybe push an update ASAP (I need some time)!
Also, huge thanks to @Timmmmaaahh for reaching out to me on email for the clarification for a fellow user.
Feel free to reach out to me if in doubt.
Thanks!

Just had a look into some info with AIDA64:
The current driver of the OOS kernel is, according to aida, actually version 324 all the way back from 2018. So technically the module could apply for fajita as well.
BUT: I don't see any benefit of doing so right now. Tested the module, it breaks camera usage in 3rd party apps for me and I don't notice a performance difference and doubt whether there are major improvements in efficiency or performance that would be noticeable.
Again, it doesn't seem worth it right now although it would be cool if we also had the latest Adreno drivers.
Good lookin out everyone!
And yeah I tried it because I was like what's the worst that can happen? A soft brick? Oh noooo. That's never happened to me before....
But yeah everything else on my phone works perfect with it installed, I just noticed when I flipped that toggle that it killed the screen but all gestures were still working and my girlfriend and I had a good laugh about it., She loves watching me experiment and brick my 6T.
But it doesn't break anything for me so far but I am a pretty barebones user. Just Marco gcam and snapchat hahaha.
But thanks all!
Well I took the time to install the module on my phone and here are some things people should be aware of. I am on OOS Beta 16 and the module installs just fine but here is what I was able to find:
* Any other launcher besides the OnePlus launcher crashes and doesn't respond. (Nova launcher did work but I didn't use it for very long.)
* The phone would randomly crash and reboot, as soon as I removed it I didn't experience any issues afterwards. YouTube would crash the phone for me when using this module.
* Video playback on Firefox or any browser would appear black, showing no video output at all but audio was still available.
* I ended going on the GitHub link for the module and the author said in one of the posts that he'll be making it an Android 10 only module since there are current issues on pie. While that happens, he'll see if he can fix up any known issues.
*The screen would sometimes go black for some unknown reason. For example when editing the name of an application in the OnePlus launcher, the second you press a keyboard key the screen will go black but after you type again where the keyboard would be it comes back up. Definitely one the more serious issues as well.
My advice to anyone wanting to install this is to make sure you're on either Android 10 OOS or (Preferred) on a Android 10 Custom ROM. OOS Pie just doesn't seem compatible with this module. It isn't worth the upgrade, I would pass and wait for any updates to come through for it.
