Hi, all. I am new to rooting/installing custom roms and I am stuck. I am installing Jasmin 2.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2760380) and have been following the directions but I am unable to get my laptop (a Macbook Air, I know, I know) to detect my phone in "Download Mode". Since I'm using a Mac, I tried using Heimdall and it still won't detect it. I'm kind of at a loss here. For reference, here are the steps from the thread. I am stuck going from Step 8 to 9. I don't know what to do because I've already installed Jasmin and if I try to just turn on the phone to get into the OS, it just sits at a black screen for a long time after the safestrap splash screen that says "Safestrap Disabled".
1. Root your device using TowelRoot & install SuperSu app
2. Install BusyBox Installer from Play Store
3. Open BusyBox Installer, grant root access & install BusyBox
4. Install the latest Safestrap for your firmware (JB/KK)
5. Boot into Safestrap & select Stock/JasmineROM Slot
6. Wipe data/system/cache/dalvik for clean flash
7. Flash the latest JasmineROM release
8. Reboot to Download Mode from Safestrap
9. If you're coming from JB, flash Firmware upgrading from JB via Odin
10. If you're coming from KK, flash Unified KK Firmware for RE via Odin
11. Reboot to system (be patient, the first boot may take a long time!)
12. If you're coming from JB, open Safestrap, uninstall & reinstall recovery
Any help would be great, thanks! Sorry if I need to give more information, as I am new to this.
I installed Parallels and Windows 8.1 and I tried using Odin and I still can't detect my phone. I do have the Samsung Kies installed so that is all I need for drivers, right? If anyone could please help me I would greatly appreciate it.
The only advice I can think of giving, is to install the samsung usb drivers instead of samsung kies. Also try different usb ports as well. Most likely it is an issue with parallels reading the hardware through the emulator.

Not sure if this would help, but it provides some instructions on Odin and Drivers indicating to uninstall ALL samsung drivers.

Not sure how you're going about this, I'll just list the steps I've used.
1/ Flash standard firmware from Sammobile.com using phone's Download mode and Odin.
2/ After the reboot, put phone into Download mode again and flash TWRP Recovery, again with Odin.
3/ After reboot, put phone into Recovery mode, then Install UpdateSuperSU-vx.xx.zip (where x.xx is whatever version you have) from the extSD card.
4/ Reboot and check if SuperSU is in all apps screens, start it and let it update the binaries, then instal TWRP's apk from play store.
5/ Reboot.
Works a treat every time.

- it's a LIGHT version, there are functions that are deleted, like weather widget for example
- including deleted app inside the ROM, and could recover yourself
- app can write data to external SD card
- split view works for 3rd party app
- smart cover function removed, user can download the "deleted app" and put back into the system to get it working

So...can any of you fluent Chinese speakers/readers help with the actual downloading of the ROM? It seems the rom is available at http://pan.baidu.com/s/1mg86X6o, but I get a little overloaded and can't figure out how to download from there. It seems to want me to log in, but I can't figure out if there's a non-login download ability lurking somewhere?

Two things. First, I had the wrong link before. Correct one is: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1sjoKe4l. Second, I realized the reason is that the zip file is over 1GB and they force you to a "download butler". So the login thing is related to copying that file into your (QQ, for example) account and then you could download the file from there.
If anyone with a D858HK is interested, I was able to install this custom rom on my phone without any problems. I followed steps elsewhere to root (the one click version) and install TWRP. The rom is basically a slim version of the standard lollipop rom. If you end up deciding to install this, be aware that the Google Contact Sync app is not included within the rom and you'll need to also download the "deleted apps" zip file mentioned in the same post (link in OP). In the "deleted apps" zip, you'll want to grab the Gooogle Contact Sync apk and install that ... otherwise you can't get your contacts copied to the new rom. There were a bunch of other apks, but this one the only one so far that seemed like it shouldn't have been removed from the rom.
FYI, here are the version details of the rom:

I guess that depends on how easy it is to remove LG's bloatware and whether or not you need all/any of it. I personally didn't care for it anyway. But yeah, other than that, nothing special about the rom.
There were a bunch of other apks, but this one the only one so far that seemed like it shouldn't have been removed from the rom.
i believe there's a thread somewhere in this forum (http://bbs.gfan.com/forum-1508-type-10913.html) regarding d858 MIUI, could someone confirm? Thanks

My LG-D858HK phone hard bricked:
What happened/how I hard bricked the phone. I'd already rooted the phone with Marshmallow and then tried to flash phone TWRP by (mistakenly) using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=b007.autorecd858hk when it hard bricked the phone. Now, the phone screen is black/blank and blue/red LED light flashing.
In addition, my PC doesn't recognise phone when plugged into USB port/s. Pop-up on PC screen says; “The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows do not recognize it.” And in Device Manager, I see a ‘yellow triangle’ next to LGE Platform Android Composite USB Device Driver.
I tried different methods to go into download mode and I’m not sure if any worked. Because, obviously, I can’t see anything on the phone screen to carry out procedures to fix phone in download mode. Moreover, I’m not even sure if the phone goes into download mode apart from a sound made from PC and the pop-up straight after.
PC always recognised phone when plugged into USB port/s before it was hard bricked.

I hope someone can come to the rescue with this matter. I did an OTA update on my LG G2 (D803) and it booted to twrp option menu. I downloaded the stock firmware (which is a ".kdz" file) for the phone but can't find a way to install it on the phone since the PC is not connecting to it neither does it have external memory. I played around the options like restore, advanced but it seems empty. I can't even turn off the device with the power button. What can I do? Please help

OTA updates don't work when custom recoveries are installed. The device would be bricked. Sorry you found out the hard way. If you can boot into TWRP, you can download a ROM and Gapps. Buy the usb flash drive that has both USB point and Android 3.0 point. Copy the downloaded ROM unto it, slot into the charging port of the phone, boot into recovery. It should detect the usb flash, navigate to downloaded ROM and flash. This would work if you can boot into TWRP. Hope it works. Give feedback. Good luck

What about ADB or terminal command? I see it under the "Advanced" Menu in TWRP?
If you can do into download mode and allready have KDZ file just use flash tool 2014 to go back to stock (search here for "going back to stock:" post)
Also.. if you can send data over usb cable, try to use sideload to upload custom rom, or like stated before, use USB stick with OTG

I have moved the kdz file to a usb stick and attached a usb stick to an OTG. But where in TWRP do I go to read the usb stick and how can I complete the process? Also I did try the SRK tool from on the links you provided. The phone is not detecting the computer while plugging in the usb while the phone is on TWRP and the computer makes a noise when the usb is connected but srk tool is not reading the phone.
You can't flash kdz with twrp or other recovery! Download custom Rom and gapps or a debloated stock rom and flash it with twrp. The custom Roms are zip files. Do you have twrp installed?

Yes you CANNOT flash KDZ with TWRP you need FLASH TOOL 2014. Download flash tool 2014 (search it on xda) than, in your G2 go into download mode, connect your phone to pc with usb cable and than run flash tool to flash kdz

this is op. Look for crom sevice on xda download install. I believed it oem unlucked my phone. Check it out guys. Get back to me let me know what you think. now if we have oem unlock we just need stock rom.
With this phone the way to root it would be Reset to factory then not letting the phone to load and run stock install WE HAVE TO AVOID ENCRYPTION WHICH THIS PHONE FORCES! SO WE FACTORY RESET AND GO IMMEDIETLY TO BOOTLOADER
Oh I should tell you I installed crom service but the phone didnt reset and apply update immedietly it was like 1 or 2 days later. I just left it installed figured if it didnt do anything right then it doesnt work. I Got distracted with a phone call and forgot to uninstall crom. Thats the story I want root for my phone

Ok. Before I even say anything, I have no idea what half of the things that are said on here means. All I want is to be able to use my phone as a mobile hotspot/tethering. But that setting is not on this phone. I have the j727vl. I downloaded a app that lets me access the setting but it's blank. Does that make sense? Anyways. I Googled ?how I could possible get my phone to let me do that, and i cane across rooting it. I've tries kingroot and one other thing (forgot what it's called ?) so please if someone can explain what to do (in a language I can understand) id be forever grateful. I just want to be able to watch Netflix again ??

You don't need an app to be able to use your phone as a hotspot
All you have to do is go to connections and then Mobile Hotspot and tethering

I cant. That is not even an option on this phone, or atleast not the one I have. I have read that the carrier may have that setting blocked.

3. Could we use a SuperSU from the rebranded or Super similar phone? "i kinda know the answer but I ask anyway"
4. Could we just flash the latest SuperSU using CF auto-root w/Odin or Just typical ADB commands and gain root like that?
5. Notice the line at the recovery of this phone it says "j7popeltetfntmo" TMO usually means T-Mobile. So whats up with that???
6. Odin Mode easy to get to Rumor is Tracfone Doesnt lock bootloaders Does this mean the Sky Pro Tracfone Varient has a Unlocked bootloader out of box? I assume yes because we can get to bootloader, Odin Mode, and Recovery without hax/mods

I tried the root method but odin alway fails and in the phone says security check failed

1. Download your official rom if root fail
2. Download odin and samsung drivers
3. Download TWRP and SuperSu 2.82 this release disable knox and security i tested
****3.1 (ExternalSD) Copy SuperSu 2.82 to ExternalSD i recomend
****3.2 InternalSD is formated with factory reset and if you restart mobile this encrypt your SD ok
4. Enable developer options in your phone and select USB debugging
5. Enter in stock recovery and start factory reset in your mobile [remove encrypt] Remember this reset is required
6. Reboot directly in download mode at this point
7. Open Odin and unselect AutoReboot
8. Flash TWRP after flash reboot mobile - press power + vol down
9. imediatly after enter recovery TWRP to flash SuperSu
10. Flash Supersu and Reboot with Root
11. if your root fail flash your official ROM
12. if your root is perfect press Thanks i am happy

my model is Samsung sm-s727vl
which is from StraightTalk
Does this also sim unlocks the phone?
I don't really want to try this without someone saying this method worked.

Anything so Far? I tried to root my phone but when following instructions but I can't flash anything. I tried going in control panel, update drivers etc. but no luck. Help me and if anyone has successfully rooted the SM-S737TL then let me know how you did it. Thanks in advance. Will the other versions work with SM-S737TL? (eg. SM-J727V OR SM-S737VL)
Root didn't work for sm-s737tl
I love this Walmart family mobile phone but would like to root it. I bought the same phone for my mom because it's a great phone for the price. I tried the root as outlined but the result was FAIL! ODIN found the phone and connected but the end result was Complete (Write) operation failed and the download screen said something about a security check failing.
I'm assuming I'm missing an OEM unlock but don't see it in developer options menu.
My baseband version is s737tlud1aqf2
I really want to root this phone!

and flash with odin fails and "SECURE CHECK FAIL (RECOVERY)" is displayed in the upper left hand corner of the screen. Just FYI for others trying to flash same model phone as me.
