Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 barometer isn't accurate - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
I used search, but I didn't find any similar thread.
I have S4, and precision barometer (it was calibrated after month in Uppsala (city in Sweden) national laboratory.
My barometer basic accuracy is ± 0.5 hPa (Barometer was made in 2005).
S4 has Bosch Sensortec BMP180 pressure sensor (this information I found on internet).
Bosch Sensortec BMP180 pressure sensor has accuracy pressure: 950 ... 1050 hPa ±0.12 hPa
@ 25 °C ±1.0 m
The problem: my calibrated barometer shows me 990.0 hPa and my S4 shows 987.20 hPa
The S4 shows less 3 hPa.
How I can calibrate it?
(After 2 years I have S3 ant it shows me pressure perfectly).
I tried combination in dial menu: *#0*# then I go to the Sensor window. In the graph Barometer sensor I have a white field: "Sea level pressure" And button "Enter pressure".
I entered pressure. But barometer shows not this value what I want.
Second time I go to sensor testing, in graph barometer, but I don't find field: "Sea level pressure" And button "Enter pressure" any more. They disappear. I tried to flesh my phone, but I didn't find field: "Sea level pressure" And button "Enter pressure" any more. I uploaded some pictures.
I was with this question in the Samsung mobile phones service, but they can't helped me.
Does anyone know how I can to calibrate my S4 barometer?
Better barometer accuracy means better accuracy of GPS.
I will donate if I found answer there, or somebody will help to insure this problem.
And sorry for my bad English.

Hello,
Use this app, on barometer tab press menu button (device's button on the left) and choose "Barometer calibration"
Here you can set offsets. It's the best app I found till now, I always use it

Hello,
yes, I know all apps with "Barometer calibration" function.
Its interesting why barometer lies in the diagnostic menu.
In the factory they shod calibrated barometer.
Maybe some people knows how to calibrate like in factor

Any Ideas?

Sorry, I have no solution.
But does barometer help for GPS? All it can do is help to determine height and that is not accurate as it depends on the weather.

Yeah, mine is totally inaccurate too. Moreover, it's exactly 100mm hg lower than it should be. I believe it's some kind of malfunction with the chip rather than factory calibration.

Motion Sensor Vs G Sensor

Lol this might be a dumb question but ive been lookin around and no answer... my logic tells me its the same thing but my curiosity keeps askin is there any difference? soo with that said is there any difference?

What is the difference?
G-sensor is a gyroscope, in other words an orientation sensor.
motion sensor is more accurate, it MAY or MAY not have G-sensor's capability, this depends on the software implementation. but the hardware itself is capable of detecting and reacting to all kinds of movement.
G-sensor needs _relatively_ sudden movements to activate the gyroscope (think of a marble in box), if the phones (the box) is in landscape, and you tilt it to portrait, the gryo detects it (ie marble rolls to one side). However, if you keep the phone/box's orientation the same, and move the phone closer or further from you (assumign you ar eholding the phone): now if you move it slowly, the marbles won't roll, this is g-sensor. becaue it can't detect this movement. but if you suddenly jerk the phone/box, even if the orientation is the same, the g-sensor should detect it (ie the marble will move). ummm.. just like those dice games on iphone/itouch (if you 've seen the latest itouch commercial).
motion sensor detects all kinds of movements, it's only up to the software to decide if all functionalities are implented or only "up till" the G-sensor capabilities are implemented or something else. best example, G1's compass view, slow movement with the phone in the same orientation will pan around the map.
that being said even the motion sensor has its limits, if you move the phone uber slowly, i bet it won't detect the motion, unless it's military grade (read: 007 gadget ), if that's the case, then i don't think the phone would be $179 either

in other words motion sensor is better than the g sensor n that is super crack juice i was a lil worried there cause i thought g sensor would be better for some reason but thanks alot now i know something i didnt... thanks =)
In general, these are the same thing. They use a part called an Accelerometer, which measures acceleration, or the forces exerted on a mass within a chip. The force of gravity pulls it in a certain direction with 1G of force, so that's how things like the iphone can detect what orientation it's in, by looking for which direction gravity is.
By shaking the device or moving it, you also exert forces on the mass inside, and cause it to register different forces in different directions, which are reported to the OS in 3 axis.
Notebooks use the same tech to know when to park the heads. If the accelerometer suddenly sees that there is no gravity anymore, it assumes that it is moving towards the ground and will then park the heads of the drive to prevent damage.
"Motion Sensor" and "G Sensor" are the same thing, just showing that the chip can detect when it's being moved.
Correct, motion sensor and G sensor refer to the same device (accelerometer).
There is no difference apart from the name.
I have looked in every menu as far as I know, and I do not find the compass anywhere.
There are actually two "motion" sensors on the G1.
The first is the accelerometer, similar to the iPhone. It detects motion by changes in gravity on three axes. This does not mean the phone has to make big movements to detect anything. The force of gravity is, in part, determined by the distance between two objects, so the phone does not have to move for the sensor to get a reading.
The second is a digital compass, I think that there's a Nokia that has one but the iPhone does not. This, as the name implies, reads the earth's magnetic field and determines which way the phone is pointing.
I'm working on an app that will use both of these to allow the user to examine a virtual 3D object.
Actually I finally found it. It is not called 'compass mode' as advertised. You go into maps - then street view. It will say searching I think .. then you touch the spot it tells you to and there you are .. walking down the street. I don't know how often the pictures are refreshed, but must be fairly recent because I can see that I need to get my lawn mowed !!! of course .. it seems I always need to do that with all the rain here in florida, but I would rather play with my toys.

Why you are in that screen hit menu and compass mode is in the bottom lower right corner and will react to your movements.
Thanks ... fouund it!

Proximity Sensor help needed!

Hi all,
I think my Proximity sensor is broken..... can one try the following:
*#0588# (Proximity Sensor Test Mode)
And tell me what happens when the sensor is covered?
Also anyone got suggestions on how I can fix this?
Thanks
Tony
It works for me with *#0*# then select sensors and then move your hand close to the phone.
It also works with your code, the phone vibrates and the background changes colour when my hand is 5cm above the sensor.

Your code did not start anything running.

Can you please tell me what it says in Sensor?
In Proximity Sensor I have:
Proximity Sensor (Min/Avg/Max)
------------------------------------------
PROXIMITY: null ADC: 0 (0,0,1)
and sometimes when I cover the sensor it changes to : ADC: 2 (0, 1, 2)
Thanks
Looks like it is broken ACC 78(83,85,89) with my thumb over the sensor.
The important number is the first number (78). This must go over 10 to register as near at about 5cms , then the background turns green.

Thanks for that. Do you know if it's a firmware (I do have original Firmware on it but had CM7 on it for a while)
Looking like a faulty phone to me. These are hardware sensor tests.
a friend of mine has the same problem. We bought the telephone together but , after 1 month, his proximity sensor stopped working.
We tried the samsung diagnostic tool receiving the same information (ADC reach maximum 4).
we noticed that it stopped working after the change of the rom (with the installation of the clock recover) but I'm sure this is the real cause.
Is there a configuration file where proximity sensor parameter like gain/offset are stored?
Maybe some buggy application has changed these values.
if you have no warrenty, you can buy a replacement sensor, only about £10, it's front cam/sensors in one component
problem fixed!
Using phonetester it took 5 minutes to connect to the sensor (while with my phone it took 1 minute) but once connected , the proximity sensor started to work again also with samsung diagnostic and phone application.

what did u use to repair ?, mines says proximity: null ADC range from 1 when nothing is in it;s way to 255 when coverd...
install only apps that you trust fully

[Q] Barometer issue

Hi, I seem to have an issue with the Galaxy S5 Barometer. The value I get is far to low with 957 hPa. The actual value, measured from different weather stations I have, is 1020 hPa. I entered into the self test menu by entering *#0*# but I could not enter or change the value in the Barometer Sensor section. See screenshots attached.
Anyone who has the same issue or an idea how this could be corrected?
Thanks a lot.

accelerometer calibration always fails (video included)

i am desperately seeking for a solution with the accelerometer sensor
i cannot use the phone without rotating if i have it on the table or even sometimes in my hand
sensor is off on the x axis = 6 ,
with the calibration tool i have managed to correct it to 5 but if i want to calibrate it to 0 and put it on a flat surface the calibration always fails
here you can see on the video near the end what i am talking about
i found the file responsible for the calibration posibbly acceleration and gyro sensor
just cannot understand the values inside there are so many numbers
location
sys/devices/14e300000.i2c/i2c-66/66-003a/input/input0/calibrator_cmd
any help is appreciated

Proximity sensor calibration - is this possible?

Hello everyone!
I have a problem with my Galaxy S8 (G950F). Proximity sensor working like is too sensitive - without any screen protectors, cases etc. it showing ADC value of ~2400 and it's always turned on. When I bring my hand closer the value increases and when I move it away it decreases - randomly it starts to work correctly (then the ADC value showing 140-160). I tried to clean the holes near the sensor using compressed air, factory reset, firmware flashing - nothing helped. Is there a way (with or without root) to change initial value at which the sensor begins to detect face, for example to start working when ADC value is greater than 2500?
