I know some people only use Hotspot here and there or not at all, but I use HotSpot every day for my Android Car Tablet, so I noticed right away after taking the update that HotSpot stopped working. HotSpot is initiated and shows a WiFi HotSpot. Devices can connect to the WiFi Hotspot connection, but no data is transferred to/from the devices. Eventually my tablet will say "This Wifi has poor internet connection. Please connect to a different Wifi."
I've done research online and spoken to Verizon's Top Tier tech folk. There's not a fix, but a horrible workaround - You start hotspot, open it's settings, change the Name of your hotspot and the password, save it, then stop hotspot. Some say then power off/on your phone. Others say you can skip that step. At any rate after that the hotspot will work but likely only once or twice or maybe a few times, but eventually it'll stop working again.
The Verizon Tech gurus said the issue is on the hot list to get fixed because they have received numerous complaints, but it could be several weeks before an update that fixes the issue. Anyway, until there is a fix, if you use hotspot and haven't taken the update, you might want to wait.

Mine worked fine yesterday without any issue.
That is with VoLTE enabled.
Edit: Maybe not. I must have turned it off prior and forgotten about it.
Edit Edit: Interesting, now it doesn't work at all.
Dude, you jinxed me
Haha - nope, it was bound to happen. It's just sporadic as far as how long it takes before it stops working.
I was going to get around posting a thread about it.. but, I tried my hotspot the other day and it didn't work. Windows told me "limited connection".. which is usually DNS related, but even setting manual DNS servers, it didn't work.
Anyone try any 3rd party hotspot apps? I used to use OpenGarden, but haven't given it a shot yet.

Verizon can likely fix it on their end. Pretty sure its network related.
I am probably wrong though.
I have VoLTE on, and I used hotspot last night when Comcast crapped out on me, and again today at work without any problems.

mine also works fine with VOLTE on. I used it for hours over the weekend

I have connected to my companies wifi network. I am part of IT, and know my settings work and are correct.
The symptoms:
Connect device to network. leave for day, come back next morning. wifi tries to connect, and eventually sets the remembered connection to disabled. Wifi then drains the battery like you wouldnt believe since it keeps scanning for a network.
I've tried WiFi Keep Alive from the Market, and still have the same issue. Removing the profile, rebooting, then readding works for a short time.
This only happens with my Atrix. iPhones, iPads, and blackberries work ok. My authentication settings are correct (PEAP, MSChapV2, username, and my password).
I'm in San Francisco, so AT&T's network is garbage, so wifi is needed for data in my office. I am on a microcell, which helps, but it doesnt really help much. I'm on a corp account, so I cant switch carriers.
Anyone have any known workarounds? This is my first android phone, and its really pissing me off. waiting weeks or months for 2.3 really isnt an option.
Thanks for any help. I'd like to stay on this phone for a while, but this may be a big enough issue to make me move back to an iPhone.
Experiencing the same issue here. Sounds like it's a bug in android 2.2.1. I have attempted 2 different things without any success. http://www.thexploit.com/sec/android-mytouch-4g-wpa-eap-connect-disconnect/ and http://androidforums.com/application-requests/25748-app-enterprise-802-1x-wifi-connectivity.html You may have more luck? Wish I could get it working myself!
I looked around for a few answers but sadly most postings with a similar question did not have replies...
I bought my dad an Optimus 7 a few months ago and on his current phone plan he doesn't pay for data so he relies a lot on wi-fi at home and his second home- Starbucks.
He claims after I forced the Mango update to his phone 2 weeks ago that he can no longer connect to free wi-fi at Starbucks yet when he goes home the phone has no issues connecting to wi-fi there instantly. He says it was fine before I updated. Mind you, he is the least tech saavy person I know. Perhaps he is missing a step. He says he goes to connect to Starbucks but no web brower page will open.
Does anyone know if this is an issue? I'm trying to avoid a trip to see him just to try to fix this.

Normally, the wifi at starbucks forces a browser login before internet access is allowed. Are you sure he is actually trying to pull up a page in IE before trying anything else, and not just trying to check email or using an app that pulls data?
Maybe Starbucks WiFi is only available to iThings users.
Starbucks in the UK works for me. In fact they're now offering it free without a Starbucks card.
As an earlier post says, you need to login first. If he's going to a https page, for some reason that doesn't work to redirect to the Starbucks login page. Best thing to do is have him go to Google or something. If you can go with him one time, pin / bookmark the login page.
Well I tried doing it myself on his phone. I can see the wi-fi connection listed. I hit connect. It begins to connect.. slowly then says it's connected. Moments later a webpage opens automatically which is the Starbucks page (where normally you would agreed to it's terms and conditions first).
Except it doesnt give you the option to accept and check the box. Instead its the Starbucks page with an error message on the bottom saying that it cannot connect basically and you can all a specific phone # to help. We called it and it takes you to Bell Canada tech support. We spoke to them about the problem and they said they provide the wi-fi service to Starbucks here I guess in Toronto.
They checked their connections apparently on their end, said they were fine and claim the issue to be our end with the phone.
Now here's the funny thing. We walked over to 2 other places nearby with free wi-fi and I could connect on his phone to both without an issue. We also connected to my wi-fi at my place. So it ONLY will not connect to Starbucks but appears to connect to other wi-fi spots.
This one stumps me for sure. But I know for a fact before Mango he could connect to Starbucks fine.
Has anyone had any issues connecting to Wifi networks on their G2s? I got the verizon version on Saturday and haven't been able to get the phone working on 2 different wifi networks. I can connect to the wifi network just fine, but I can't access the internet at all. I can confirm that other devices are able to connect no problem.
Curious if anyone has some thoughts on how to potentially fix this. If not, will be heading back to Verizon to get a new one. Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the AT&T G2 version , it will connect to any wireless router but the connection will last 5 seconds then no internet, this is totally unacceptable I upgraded from the G-Pro and may go back as that never had this issue, I did read LG had a similar problem with the Nexus 4 and Optimus G
Mine works fine. I have a VZW G2 and an ATT G2 connected on the same router. It connects to both G and N networks.
No issues with my Verizon G2.

Did you try rebooting your router? I see this at home with the families iOS devices a lot, especially after heavy data traffic. I'll turn off the router for a couple hours or overnight and the next day all is well. Router is open, no encryption.

I have the exact same problem. It will sometimes transfer some data using browsers, but nothing on facebook, pandora, or the play store it will say connection lost or not data connection.
My wife has the same phone and it works no problem and also the laptop. Must be a dud wifi radio or something like that. Mine is going back to the store tomorrow.

Are you trying to use adblock by any chance? I was and it was causing the same issue you have. I uninstalled it and changed my proxy settings back to none and wifi is working great now.
Just received my LG G2 White brand new from T-Mobile about 2 hours ago. After many attempts to troubleshoot the issue it all failed. The problem is Wifi will connect to router and even work but after 30 seconds the connection goes down. The actual Wifi signal shows connected but no internet it gets stock. We tried resetting the phone and toggling with different features but still it did the same thing. T-Mobile is the worst they were trying to have me ship the phone back and leave me phone less for days. I complained and they are sending another one overnight but have charged me for the phone on my account. Mind you I've had months of bad service, after all I think I got a defective phone. I've read some other people having the same issue with other carriers. If I get another one with the same issue I'm jumping boat. If anyone knows of a work around let me know. I tried 2 different routers same issues connects then it randomly disconnects and stops downloading or transferring data.
Reset Phone - didn't work
Turned off mobile data - didn't work
Turned off wifi sleep - didn't work
I'm on Verizon. I have trouble with initial connection to wi-fi. It says obtaining IP address for a very long time. Even if I have a very strong signal. It takes about five minutes. It eventually connects and works fine. Then next time I try to connect to that router it works fine. It's only the first time I try to connect to a new router.
I just got this phone over the weekend and I was also having trouble connecting to my home wifi.
It would stay connected for 30 seconds or a couple of minutes then disconnect however the entire time the status under the Wi-Fi settings page says Connected even though I couldn't access the internet or the admin page of the router. Frustrating. If I turned off the mobile data, the wifi, the phone, the router, or some other unknown combination of events it would then reconnect again for another 30 seconds to a couple of minutes.
I called Verizon, they told me to take the phone back since I was within my 14 days. I did this and was optimistic. Then the new phone immediately experienced the same issue.
I did some more research, changed my router from 20 mhz channel width to auto 20/40 mhz. Not sure why it was set to just 20. I thought that would fix it. Nope.
I tried to set my phone to use a static IP, that didn't work either.
Then last night I tried the WPS Push Button option instead of using a password. This method worked and my phone stayed connected. I haven't had a chance to repeat my steps to verify it works again but wondering how other people are connecting, password, wps push button, wps pin? WPS is not my preferred option due to the security risks but just trying to track down what works and what doesn't.
I am able to connect at work just fine using a password.
I'm having a similar problem - my work network has no problem connecting while my home network almost never works with this phone (~25% of the time, other devices have no problem). Occasionally, resetting the phone or just turning on-and-off WiFi fixes the problem, but more often I just give up and use 4G. Anyway, if anyone finds a solution, please post! This is such a standard feature that should really work out of the box.
In case it helps, my home network uses "WPA/WPA2 PSK" security and my work connects to "802.1x EAP" security - also I'm not adverse to changing the security options if it fixes the problem.
Thanks! Nick
After reading more on this, I've decided this issue is router related not phone related.
I discovered my router reached end of life in April of this year is no longer receiving firmware updates. Newer versions of my router have received multiple updates since then.
I will be buying a new router. I report back on if it works.
I really don't think it is "router related" as all my other devices work as expected with my router. A new router may fix the problem, but I'm pretty sure the phone's WiFi is buggy and not the router..
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
In my situation it really appears to be how my router is handling the connection when I connect with a password since I can connect with limited security.
Does your router have a firmware update available for it? If so, have you applied it?
Received my new to me router yesterday with updated firmware as of 10/7/13.
My phone was connected for a few hours last night and I have not had any problems today. I'll report back if I start experiencing any issues but getting rid of my old, end of life router and replacing it with a newer router worked for me.
I did not buy a brand new router either. I went with a cradlepoint mbr95 which has been on the market for awhile and has already had a few firmware updates.
Check you wireless security settings
Had a similar issue to this and it seemingly was resolved when I moved the wireless router security over from WPA/WPA2 personal to WPA2 personal only. The phone found the WAP and connected right away. I tried to reproduce the behavior but alas I have not been able to do so. Perhaps this will help others.
hi guys
i found the problem
it happens just when you disable auto update in "settings>general>about phone>update center>software update>check automatically"
Curious to know if the community is having tethering issues since going to Nougat.
Tethering does turn on and it does work to an extent but it'll either turn off whenever it wants or it'll simply stop serving requests. There is not a set amount of time for either before experiencing the issue. I'm pointing this issue directly at the tethering aspect as the phone will always browse and do anything as expected even tho the tethering clients are unable to. Even when the clients are unable to browse I can still ping the exact website that will not load. I can even curl those pages and get data back..
Here's what I've tried:
- Disabled adblocker on the phone
- Kept phone awake
- Connected to the charger
- Disconnected from the charger
- added net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to the build.prop
- Nuked and paved with different ROMs
Going to try installing a different tethering app to see if that works. UPDATE: This also produced the same results
I can connect to another 6p not running nougat and everything works as expected with the same computer so that rules out the computer.
Anyone else running into this issue? Anyone have a fix?
Thanks

Thank you!!! I thought it was just my phone hardware maybe. Having the same exact issue once I hit the official version of nougat. It didn't pop up until I believe thr 5th developer release as an issue. It really annoys me either streaming or online gaming it'll just cut out. I am really close to just going back to one of the developer previews that it did not occur on. Please anybody who can fix this issue or needs anything like a logcat, let me know.

What carrier are you on? Tethering can mean Wi-Fi, USB, or BT. I guess you are talking about the Wi-Fi hotspot because it's the most commonly used. My Wi-Fi hotspot is working fine on AT&T, although I haven't used it for gaming. Haven't heard back from OP, but I think he may be talking about Wi-Fi as well? You could try changing frequencies under advanced settings to toggle the hotspot to use 5Ghz instead of 2.4Ghz if you haven't tried that (and your equipment supports it).
I was having same issue also running latest PN, EX 4.04, radio/bootloader & vender.
This seemed to help but just started yesterday.
In Terminal Emulator, enter below code one by one:
su
settings put global tether_dun_required 0
exit
------------------------------------------------------
Reboot
Now if I could figure out how to stop adding a network every time I connect to hotspot with cp when I turn hotspot off & back on.
I'm thinking this could me a Verizon unlimited thing since not many people have anymore & very few people have stated issues.
Update: The above is not going to cut it! Hotspot seems to hang on longer but still disconnects!
I have Verizon, and yes, I am speaking to*Hotspot tethering. I have this issue only on Nougat. When I use a*Marshmallow based rom it doesn't happen. I use my hotspot as my home internet (laptops, smart tv, tablets, smartphones) and all of them drop connection after random intervals (most times after an hour to few hours). Not until the DPs for 7.1 did a change in the way it failed happened. Before those DPs, it would shut off and the notification icon would disappear (hotspot actually off). After*the DPs for 7.1 started, the tethering would still be on (on the*6P) but no device would show that it was on (in range). I have to shut it off, then*turn it back on. I use stock, Cortex or PN mostly. Root or no root. I also do not use custom kernels unless they come with the rom, although I have tried a couple to see if it would fix it. It didn't.*I have always attributed it to either faulty hardware somehow or DOZE improvements that kicked in. The DOZE came to mind as it almost seems as the phone is trying to*get into deeper sleep. I don't know. Any help would be appreciated.
Same issues with pixel, some said it works others did not.

Well cannot seem to find anything on disconnect solving issues, posted solutions seem to be if tethering does not work at all.
Hope someone can solve.

Laptop I'm using only does 2.4.
Was never a problem with the HTC M8 on MM, just recently bought the 6P.
Thanks
Had another laptop that had that had a 2.4 / 5Ghz dual wireless card.
Holds wifi hotspot with no disconnects whatsoever, longest time connected was 2.5 hours.
I will have to settle for usb tether on the 2.4 laptop for now until the wiser ones can find cause.
Just ran into this issue on the 6p running 8.0 beta 3. Seem related to the data encryption of the wifi hotspot. Turning encryption seems to solve the problem. However, I would say that is not really a solution, unless you don't running unsecured hotspot.
Edit: Turns out it only helps. Not a solution. Still disconnects just not as often often.

Hi, I'm starting this thread having searched for solutions in other threads and not having found it.
As background, I'm running Pie 9.0 with the August patch update. I got the phone in March and when I saw the pop-up for the update, I installed it, without doing any background checks (not my usual MO) - which is not to say my hot spot was working and then stopped, I just hadn't used it before then. My previous cell was the trusty Samsung S3 in its various flavours - mainly for the small form factor and frankly it was enough phone for me.
Anyway it seems that the PH1 "hot spot" works fine as a *repeater* when I'm connected to wifi but as soon as I turn off my wifi or am out of reach of a wifi and want my hot spot to connect to my mobile data, there's no internet connection to any device connected to my hot spot, even though both my PH1 and the device(s) show as "connected" to each other. internet on my PH1 works just fine in these instances.
What's the secret handshake to make this work?

I don't have any trouble on TMO, but two thoughts for you.
Try adding "net.tethering.noprovisioning=true" to the build.prop file. You need root for this.
Maybe lengthen the TTL (time to live) on the connecting device. Google for your device/OS how to do this.

Haven't rooted anything yet... so this is new territory for me.
Don't think it's the TTL, since it's the same with *any* device connected to my phone...

Do you have tethering support on your cell plan?
It is of course always possible some other app is interfering. VPN, ad blocker, ect. But honestly, in all likelihood you need to bypass the tethering check as I described earlier.
If that step doesn't work by itself, in a terminal app with a root prompt enter the command:
settings put global tether_dun_required 0

Thanks ktmom, I guess I'm surprised that yours (and others'?) work without this mod and I'm needing to root mine? I have no other apps such as the ones you mention on my phone so I'm really confused why this simple connection isn't working on my phone.
