As you know we have root access, and believe the root exploits will work on the production devices.
However I do not believe we will have perm root on the production devices.
We are seeking volunteers willing to assist, by testing a method once the device is released. A risk of bricking exists, and the volunteer will assume 100% of that risk.
Requirements:
1) Will be getting a thunderbolt on or shortly after release
2) Ability to follow directions
3) Basic computer knowledge (ability to use command line would be nice)
4) Have the sdk installed, or be willing to install it
5) Understand the risk of volunteering completely. (ie know bricked phones no longer work)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the other post, you show a photo with SHIP S-OFF at the SPL level... so is this not permanent?
Perhaps I am confused then by what you mean 'perm root' in this case. Do you mean a engineering SPL?

If you read that whole post, you will understand its a pre production device (see the lack of verizon branding?). That is why we had s-off. Production models will not likely have it.
I currently have a touch pro 2 with nand loading xdandroid.
I would be happy to test though, I would rather not be the first brick. LOL
But in the sake of root, I might be willing to risk it. Considering the success rate.... I would say the risk would be high I am sure many precautions will be taken to prevent a brick.

With current ideas, risk is near nothing for one. Other one is slim. (in my opinions)
I am sure once the device is in hand tests will be done prior to flashing.
HTC phones are pretty good about not permanently bricking.
I will be trying it out.
I just have a quick question as I am coming from having a D1. How easy are HTC phone's rooting compared to the D1? I used the super one click root, I have to research HTC's methods now.

D1 root was rather easy, so was HTC back then. No longer is this the case.
I'm still 50/50 on getting it right when it comes out since I'll be paying full retail and we don't have a confirmed price yet. But otherwise, I meet all of the criteria. I actually tested the rage exploit on the Droid 2 first and had to write up the adb commands for others, so I'm comfortable working my way through some hackery.

full retail if its like what BB posted ($750) then its cheaper to cancel your current contract and buy it with a new 2 year for $250
so thats 250+350=600
If you have a current contract
I will be picking a tb up as soon as they say go at a verisimilitude store and no matter what phone I have I can never go more than a day or two with out root. I need the ability to have freedom even if I can't change anything. Just the thought of having it keeps me going. As for knowledge I had the droid first and did everything you could to it and now I am running the fascinate on 2.2.1 that samsung and verizon still haven't released, so I am not the best but learn as I go.

Anyone seen this? https://www.facebook.com/pages/MobileTechVideos/182579981788132?fref=ts
You guys know if they are credible or not?
I have a HTC DNA, and there are several good reports of MobileTechVideos doing s-off on the DNA in the DNA forums.
(The latest updates from HTC/Verizon removed the rooting/s-off exploits, so this currently is the only way to get s-off on a DNA that has been updated).
Here's one report:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40714371&postcount=26
I saw some posts in a few other threads about them so I checked out their web site. It seems like they've been around for a while and more or less specialize in unbricking phones. Yesterday their Facebook page said they'd achieved S-OFF and applied SuperCID and then an hour or so later they said they'd managed it "without the wire". That was almost 24 hours ago, now. I'm waiting for more news.
yea they're credible. they fixed my bricked s2 been following them for 2 years
They are legit. Sent a couple of my phones to them over the years for hardware related repairs and they always fixed the issue. They were prompt, friendly, and well organized. Would not hesitate to use them again in the future.

My bet is they won't tell us how. They are a business so if anything you'll probably have to pay them and send your device in for them to do it for you. However, since it's been done I'm sure someone will be able to figure it out soon

I got the impression is was via some sort of JTAG modification, but there really is no solid information at this point.
I haven't seen them say it was via JTAG, however they did say it wasn't via "the wire trick".... whatever that is. This is my first HTC so not clued up completely yet

On many of the recent HTC phones, one has to take an insulated wire and short two contacts together at a specific interval in order to S-OFF. Those phones had removable battery covers, so getting at the electronic contacts was fairly simple. Hence the name "wire trick"
They've charged for S-Off in the past. There's nothing solid to think that they won't keep the details to themselves and make you pay for it this time as well.
im guessing its not going to be released
I'd be fine with paying for it.

I suppose if one had to return the phone to HTC you could relock and flash an RRU, to get rid of the TAMPERED and RELOCKED indicators. That is the advantage of S-Off, so far as I'm concerned.
What is the great advantage in your opinion? Oh yeah, it can flash a bootup animation with S-off.

Makes modding easier. I'm not quite familiar with the One yet (get it Friday), but on the One X (on some bootloaders), you couldn't flash kernels in recovery. Two things allowed you to do this: S-off and downgrading hboot. Downgrading was a pain. You also need S-off for changing the splash screen to a custom one.

A tune up for a car worth thousands of dollars is very very clearly different then a piece of software for a phone.
maybe,,we all have different views,,in my case ill just glad that i can start 2 work on some themes and bootspashes and other bits and peaces,, the trouble is its the onlyway 2 gain tryed many other ways on the m8 ,,not possible at all..
It doesn't seem right to me that one spends hundreds and hundreds of hours learning to work with these phones by working and learning from others who are not charging for their help, and then when it's his turn to help and teach others, he decides he is going to charge for it. I know that jcase and others are good people doing good work and if I truly need something, I'll pay for it. I'm just having a little problem with this new concept. No $25 is a okay price, think of it. Developers have to risk bricking their devices to achieve s-off for a HTC community. And all devices are different to. Achieving s-off .. and who knows they could of bricked a few desire 816's in the process... pluses your paying them for their hard work. If you think you can do it then take a crack at it. Or just stay s-on.

It's not to say that for the work put into it doesn't justify the $25 price. But what it offers doesn't. Especially considering previous S-OFF methods, that all had the same risk to develop, have been free.
I have a couple of questions if someone could help....
1. Has anybody tried Sunshine 3 on Virgin Mobile Desire 816? Did it work?
2. With the impending update for Android 5.0, if I use this and update, will the update put me back to S-ON and kill my root?
3. If the update kills my root, is re-rooting the same process. Sorry a little new to android modding. Thanks in advance.

This took more effort and costs than previous tools. This tool supports way more devices/firmwares than past tools. Each new iteration of android is more secure, the R&D time and costs is thus increased. We do nothing to prevent you or anyone else from developing a similar tool, eating the costs of R&D and giving away for free. Alternatively, you can personally finance this operation, and we can re-release SunShine for free. Let me know if you are capable and willing to do that, as I'm willing to make arrangements and accept that.

When the HTC one m10 hits for Verizon, it better get root!!! And unlock! I swear Verizon is really pissing me off the way they're locking their devices down. Pretty excited about this phone and I just don't want to be disappointed like I was with pretty much every other Verizon phone
I don't see Verizon knocking off their ridiculous lock-downs anytime soon. That being said, Samsung and Motorola on Verizon have tended to be the worst combination for rooting and unlocking. HTC Flagships have generally gotten a fairly good method within six months of release. Not ideal, but there.

With the way all snapdragon 820 devices have been so far, I wonder if HTC will use Qualcomm secure boot as well to block S-OFF. Qualcomm is really proud of their secure boot. I have T-Mobile and even the S7 and S7 Edge have encrypted bootloaders with Qualcomm secure boot as well as dm-verity. The G5 acts like it is unlocked but it uses dm-verity as well as Qualcomm secure boot also. T-Mobile traditionally has always been alright with rooting but unless HTC changes things up, it's going to be a rough year of phones. I should start saving for the Nexus...
Is it possible that the Verizon HTC 10 could get root before S-off, or will S-off be necessary in order to gain root access?
Thanks.
According to jcase's thread they have ordered a few 10, so s-off is likely. But I don't think it's ever been done without root.

For Verizon, it's a little more. Verizon doesn't allow you to unlock the bootloader via hrcdev.com. So the only way to unlock the bootloader on the m9 was to be s-off. That's where it gets tricky. In order to s-off with Sunshine, you had to be rooted, but the only way to root was to unlock the bootloader. Being that you could not unlock the bootloader on the Verizon m9, you couldn't root and therefore couldn't s-off. Quite a vicious circle.
jcase and the Sunshine team have recently been able to make sunshine work for the Verizon m9. I'm not sure if they were able to achieve a temp root of sorts to allow s-off, but either way, it works now. This allowed you to unlock the bootloader and then root the device. Hopefully, they will be able to do the same thing for the Verizon HTC 10. I know many people had to resort to a java card and/or xtc2 clip to achieve s-off on Verizon. Many who had a card or clip helped out by offering their time to s-off other members phones. Either by mailing the phone or meeting up with them.
@jsaxon2 Thanks for clarification.
Thanks to our devs who put time on those things to make us free from carriers ****, people with contracted phones really have hardtimes waiting for exploit to be founded and getting software ready for doing great things ie unlocking/rooting etc...
On the other hand the international variant almost always got loves from everywhere but at the end it depend on the community/manufacture/developers who want to produce a dev friendly phone/experienced devs who want to make great roms/mods/and all the push we the community give to our devs.

Yep we use temproot to get root then s-off it like any other phone. We have a few projects for other variants and models underway now that we have non verizon m10 done.
XTC2Clip/javacards will not work on m10, at least not until the 2nd gen javacard keys are stolen from HTC. We may end up offering mail in for Verizon m10 (we dont use the stolen HTC keys/javacards so our methods will still work).
Hello guys, I'm new to this anyway, but I've used many HTC devices for years. This time I ended up with the Verizon HTC 10 which I've just bought few days ago due to the price in Cambodia is cheap rather than spend over 500$ to buy the International Version. So I'm here to ask all of you in case you are facing the same problem like me by wanted to convert the Verizon HTC 10 to be the same as the original unlocked phone out there. The reasons why I wanted to convert my phone are:
-Weak Signal and barely reaches to 4G LTE here (I only can use 3G here most of the time)
-I can't use Wifi Hospot (It requires Verizon Sim)
-Some feathers are not allowed to use (I really hate it)
So far, I've done so many research with rooting, unlocked bootloader and s-off, but I couldn't finger it out how I can solve the problems the right way. I saw people said paying 25$ for S-OFF with sunshine app or sth and I was like what? why do I have to pay for that? I knew it's for the donation for those developers out there, but I rather save money to buy accessories instead or is there any solution to get s-off? Well, I'm so sicked right now! I really have no idea what to convert my verizon to work as the international version. I'm just blanked that's why I came up here trying to ask you guys if u can possibly help me to solve my problem using some technical workaround with computer
My phone is running Android Marshmallow 6.0.1, Software number = 1.85.605.8, Build number = 1.85.605.8 8.0_g CL774095
Thank you for spending your time reading my questions here!
Thanks in advance :good:
