Yeah.
1. Towelroot is for root android 4.3 or higher.
2. You can use CF-Auto-Root without void the warranty coz you are using android 4.2.2. This is the first firmware of the Galaxy s4 and it hadn't KNOX. You can flash any custom recovery too without KNOX.

If you don't know what is the difference btw Knox and binary flash counter isn't my problem. One nice guide is in this website. Read and learn a little more.
* EDIT: This root process may increase binary flash counter, not change KNOX status. Read a little more about TRIANGLE AWAY too.

Cf root will trigger my knox though. I have used cf root and triangle away many times on my s2 and my s3. I know the difference between knox and binary. Believe me your 4.2.2 I don't think was mh6, must have been earlier 4.2.2. This is my download mode.

I have a N900W8 (Canadian Note 3) which is on 4.3 Jelly Bean.
It was rooted, tried to update to the OTA 4.4.2 and was denied with a "custom" error.
So I used SuperSU full unroot option, still custom system status, cannot upgrade.
I have downloaded 4.3 and 4.4.2 stock firmwares that correlate with my CSC from sam-mobile, my question:
If I use Odin 3.09 to install the 4.3 firmware again to get back to stock, will this trip Knox? Also I am assuming if it will not I would be ok to upload the 4.4.2 firmware directly after as well, via Odin 3.09?
Let me know if you can, really itching to do this, will not do it blindly however. Need an answer from another member before I go ahead.
I hate Knox so much, last Samsung phone for sure. Stuck with it now however, I had no idea about Knox, had I known I would have most likely kept the Nexus 5 I traded for this beast,

Well, Knox was not tripped when it was rooted.
The thing is, I did not root this phone. The person I bought it off did.
He did it right as it did not trip Knox.
Can I assume that since Knox was not tripped I can flash with Odin and still not trip it?
I appreciate the reply my friend.

No issues, back to Official status.
I actually have major flashlighting on the left side of my screen. Only visible with white is anywhere BUT the left side of the screen (Best way I can explain it). Anyone know if Samsung will repair this?
Not interested in defective hardware, it's obvious this Note 3 is a one off and needs a new screen. Hoping Samsung is not going to deny me.
Just need to pick up my replacement HTC One on my actual plan (Bought this one straight up, HTC One I had was lost, have insurance.).
REALLY would like to know about the flash counter before I send this off. It has been rooted with Root De La Whatever it is (LOL) then unrooted via SuperSU, then I Odin'd the 4.4.2 update. There was a checkbox ticked called "F.Reset Time", is that it?
I'll look a bit before making my own thread on this one if no has a quick answer.
Thanks again, XDA never lets me down.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am really confused as always I used to find the thread for rooting my SGS4 but with the new firmware upgrade (Russia region), I can not find how to root it, and I am not upgrading it as it is important for me. Specification I am attaching (from similar updraded phone already) .
it should be PDA: I9500XXUFNF4CSC: I9500SERFNE3 MODEM: I9500XXUFNA6 (I can only find with PDA I9500XXUFNB4 in this site).
I would certainly appreciate your guidance in this matter, as only after being sure I had the needed .tar and odin, as I always root it with ODIN being the simplest and safest way, I always upgrade via KIES.
I was directed to post here.
Thank You in advance
Just use the normal rooting.
cf auto root or towelroot.

knox flag 0x1 is a e-fuse which burns out after the software is mofidied... there is no way known of setting it back to 0x0.
Here in Poland, there was a discussion about knox flag 0x1 and warrinty with Samsung officials, as the flag is also triggered when trying to downgrade your original firmware, example from 4.4.1 to 4.3.... and on tweeter Samsung Poland stated that the warranty is not lost when the flag is 0x1.. but is better to have it untouched...
Thank you for the explanatiom as such it means it does not harm the phone or prevent future upgrades? If so I prefer to root as I had done before. I have no intention of downgrading but surely would like to continue upgrading. I always use my rooted phone with Knox frozen

It will only affect your ability to downgrade......you won't be able to with official firmware. Upgrading is still possible and the Knox flag being triggered will not affect you upgrading but will never re-set the trigger.

It's not possible for your Knox flag to show 0x0 after flashing CF-Auto-Roo. As soon as you flash unsigned images to your Note 3, it'll trip knox and you may lose your warranty.

You're right it seems :silly:
However I don't find this very offensive, as I offcourse accepted the risk before rooting. Allthough, I wish I'd have read more about which bloat I shouldn't have removed... that damn MagazineHome.apk is really pain in the ass. After I deleted it, --> stock email FC every time new message comes... and what really sucks, I was unable to restore or install MyMagazine or MagazineHome.apk (with or without .odex) to get rid of this annoying crash messages.
Not sure yet why I was unable to reinstall those... is there different versions of them on Verizons Note 3 than in my galaxy note 3 n9005 ?
And one thing I havent yet learned is, whether the Knox is avoiding me from doing these restores or managing to reinstall those properly? (help anyone?! please )
Hi,
Its been a few years since ive Rooted or been ontop of the forums ect.
Just wanted to let other people know my experience with Un-Rooting my S5 GM-900F
- Rooted with Odin + tar file
- Un-Rooted with Super SU
- Typically their is now an update available but cannot update as Samsung recognise that the phone was previously rooted.
- On a PC or Mac download Kies and update.
- Nothing has flagged up with any counters, did not experience any problems with KNOX
Hope this helps everyone.

Unrooting with SuperSU and updating with Kies have reset the KNOX WARRANTY VOID to 0x0?!

Hi,
Well the uninstall of SuperSU went ahead with no problems, a box did flag up saying something about would you like to disable KNOX before continuing and just confirmed it.
Since the Un-Root, i have just opened KNOX again and havent had any problems at all. I did complete a factory reset just for my OCD needs with it and nothing has been triggered and no flags or counters. Still have the KNOX app with the set up wizard client available to get it going if i ever need it again so..
Didnt realise that people where having a problem with KNOX if im honest, when i finish work i shall have a play around with it and update this if i encounter any problems.

This might well be the case, i dont fully understand all of the tech terms regarding the binaries but only have a little knowledge when it comes to checking the counters and any flags or problems.
- Say for example that KNOX was tripped, a) What would happen and when/where would i encounter a problem and b) Is their any detrimental effect on the overall phone or just for KNOX?
Regards.

KNOX, Private Mode and off course warranty are affected when the KNOX void flag says 0x1 and you are rooted. If you unrooted correctly as discribed by the OP Knox and Private Mode should work again after you flashed a stock rom.

Hi,
Oh right i didnt know that. Is it just within the EU that the warranty is still valid? Are their any other countries that are the same?
Just a general question then, with regarding the voidance of KNOX or anything, would that only effect me if i wanted to send the phone back for whatever reason? The counters for example wouldnt made a difference for my phone and daily useage anyway so if i just keep the phone and continue to not having any problems i could have as many counters on it as possible?
Just getting my head around the whole void/counters thing.

I have currently official status but Knox 0x1.
The one & only thing concerned then is warranty. Knox based apps and all others should work as before Knox 0x1.

You are still able to use future samsung firmware releases with the knox flag 0x1. hope this makes sense. sorry for any confusion this has caused!"

Heres another screenshot from Phone Info app. Now the since this app detects knox warranty void on models like s4, s5 and as far as I know s6, I highly doubt samsung went thru the trouble of putting some undetectable warranty counter and a mid range device such as our S3 neos.

I rooted mine the second day I got it (I got it somewhere around January). So far havent had any problems with it and the knox (if there is one) still says 0x0. That said rooting and flashing custom recovery is still something that may potentialy harm your device so its up to you to decide. Dont take my words as 100% proof everything will be ok. Maybe indeed w8 for a few more ppl to say if they had any problems with knox so far.

I am not 100% sure mate.
I checked my build.prop file and I found this "ro.config.knox=v00" I don"t know if it means, our phone has knox. I also found an app called "KNOX notification manager" in settings.

Knox isnt only related to warranty btw. It allso has to do with samsung enterprise security crap. Thats why we have some knox apps on our phones.
But again w8 for more reports from ppl who have rooted before you do it just to be safe.

Hey Buddy guess what? I took the risk and rooted my mobile with Cf Auto Root method and everything went smoothely and when I checked Knox status with apps nothing has changed and in Odin mode also only status has changed to Custom nothing else.
Mission Accomplished

You know what after rooting my mobile the first thing I did is to remove the Knox crap from my mobile, they scared me enough but not anymore:good:
I can confirm that re-flashing a stock rom resets the binary counter to official. Happy rooting!

Yep! Your warranty will not be void as long as your device is running a stock rom when you turn it in. You can check your binary counter by going to download mode.

If you flash CM 12.1 , it will trip the binary counter but you can always reset the binary counter with the help of Triangle Away App by ChainFire. Resetting the binary counter and then flashing the Stock Rom will restore the warranty of your device.

I'm not talking about Knox Counter but I'm talking about Binary Counter which every Samsung phone already have and keeps track of how many times a custom firmware had been flashed. And as far as Knox Security is concerned there is still no way to reset Knox counter but fortunately S3 NEO don't have it.
