WTF ODIN! - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm trying to restore my note to stock, and for whatever reason Odin no longer recognizes my phone.
I have used Odin on this phone on this computer before, but now nothing. Kies will detect the phone, but not Odin
Updated drivers, and reinstalled Odin but no luck.
Can I use kies to update if i'm on a rooted stock rom?

There appears to be a Windows 8 & Odin issue, tried everything to make it work with no luck. Tried on my wife's laptop with windows 7, and it worked instantly

Unless something just changed, Windows Pro 8.1 (64bit) w/Media Center works fine with Odin 3.09. About 2 weeks ago I updated my modem via Odin and it worked fine.
At the time, latest updates to Windows were installed. There's been one update to Windows since a couple of days ago.

I need help restoring my phone - odin wont flash it

Background is, I was flashing JAC's latest kernel onto my phone, which I had done twice before. Unfortunately, ODIN was getting stuck at zimage. After trying a few times, I decided to go back to the version of the kernel I was running previously, which I knew worked. I tried to flash the kernel but odin kept getting stuck on zimage again.
I tried restarting the computer, battery pulls on the phone, different usb ports and nothing has worked.
In desperation I tried to flash the stock firmware back, but ODIN gets stuck at cache.rfs.
Did I brick my phone?

BS! Heh, I restored my phone using ODIN flasher. I have windows 7 64 bit. I don't have to do anything special, just followed directions and it worked. Make sure you have 64 bit Samsung Drivers.

Done. The phone is detected by odin in 7 - 64, but when I try to flash, odin throws up a couple of messages in chinese and then sits there doing nothing. It never starts the flashing process.
hey did you fix your phone...im having the same issue
You guys try flashing anything via clockwork recently? There are recovery images for stock inside the odin thread from jac and stock I images for a kernel in his kernel thread... That's if you can even get into recovery now.....
Pooped from my Samsung Vibrant using XDA app... Dont mind the skidmarks...
on the same boat any other solutions

No idea if this will help, but make sure you are using a later version of Odin (1.7 or above).
Also might try flashing with Heimdall. Works very well in my experience.

ODIN?

Does anyone know if ODIN works in Windows 8? It detects my Droid Charge but I am scared to flash anything right now.
It worked fine for my galaxy note. Hope this helps. Good luck!

Wow, thanks! I was woindering if that was possible. But did you first install usb driver using kies? Does kies works on win8? Or did you just plug the sgs2 into download mode and then started odin?
Thanks!
I can confirm that ODIN works in win 8 with the droid charge. To the person who uses ODIN daily, what could you possibly be doing?
Does Odin also work in Win8 64bit with a Samsung Galaxy S?
Odin worked for me fine on Windows 8 Consumer Preview x64 for the Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000, but now on the Release Preview, the windows cannot recognise the phone ;/

I can't flash firmware on my galaxy gio using odin ... Any ideas? I have tried to install / reinstall / uninstall Kies a lot of times but it is of no use .. My phone doesn't get detected ... I have also installed the drivers for Samsung USB separately but still Odin can't detect phone in download mode. I can run adb devices and the phone shows up in the list when it is on.

Have you try restarting both PC & phone? Did you set USB Debugging to be on?
For my Samsung galaxy s3 I could not get Odin to work with windows 8. Odin would not recognized the OS. I reverted back to windows 7. 8 is not that great anyway.

For anyone having problems with ODIN on Windows 8, install the Samsung Mobile Drivers then plug in your phone. Your phone will then be detected and after the phone's driver is installed, start ODIN. Well, that's how I fixed my issue.

same problem, but odin not recognize.. i tried with three cables and three USB ports.. but nothing
Try reinstalling the USB drivers, do you have kies installed? If something takes over mobile USB it can cause it to fail.

also try a different USB port. Thats what I did when it wasn't connecting for me.. try to avoid USB hubs like on the front of PC cases and plug it right into a main board USB port.
Also like behrensdtech said Kies can interfere with Odin so try uninstalling it.
Also i got it rooted via towel root once i flashed to ND1. its android version 4.4.2. So my question is can i upgrade to 4.4.4 kitkat and keep root? also ATT is asking me about a firmware update. what should I do with that?

What Odin version are you using ? Try 3.07 or the one I'm using on Win10 is Odin 3.09.
Hope it helps

Windows 10 and Odin compatibility

Just wondering since I got a new computer that is a Windows 10 platform if there is a new Odin version I should use or if 3.09 is still good to use. I still have my old pc that is fully functional but I don't what to have to use it if I don't need to.

Well I did try it but I think I had a bad file download and got a fail that then gave me a update error and directed me to use a recovery tool to get my phone back up and running ( stuck in download mode) couldn't get the phone booted up. Tried different files in Odin and all failed. Not 100 percent sure it is windows 10 and Odin 3.09 compatibility issues. Fired up the old pc and got my phone back.
