curious is anyone else has seen this or anything like this. (picture attached)
we got two of these phones in mid december and I just noticed on my phone, while sitting in the dark using the phone, that an odd line becomes visible.
the brighter the screen, the more apparent it is or if I view the phone more from a side angle.
it rotates accordingly if if rotate the phone which makes me thing it's a physical problem with the phone.
I did a screen capture of the screen, and that didn't capture the line, so this is looking more and more like a hardware problem
my wife's phone seems to be fine.
the phone is basically new, opened on christmas, and never dropped. there's absolutely not physical damange to the phone and there's no apparent crack on the outer glass that I can feel or see and as far as I can tell, screen response is fine in the area.
the only thing I can think of is t-mo just shipped the darn phones together in one of those cheap bubble envelopes, and when i opened mine, some of the corners of the cardboard that the phone rested in, within the nexus box, seemd to be crushed in a bit, though again, there's no apparent physical damage that I saw externally.
anyone else seen anything like this, cause I've not heard of any other folks complaining about anything like this
wondering if i should try getting it replaced, though i guess it would require waiting for one to be shipped as i don't think any of my local stores have them yet. thoughts?
Sends more like a screen defect than a crack. Try using a screen color test. If its still there, then do an RMA

CRACK IS WHACK.

more pictures in case anyone else encouters it
just went ahead and ordered a replacement....but adding more pictures if anyone else encounters similar
does seem to be something with the hardware, as it was there with color test apps...just less visible when screen was darker
Looks like a screen defect to me not a crack. U did the right thing RMAing it. At least u have a usable phone while u wait.

If you shine a light across the face of the screen almost level with the screen and watch as you move the light from across to pointing down then you may see the line with more detail and maybe a reflection of it.
If you put the phone on lower brightness or auto-brightness, do you see faint vertical and horizontal "streaks" of discoloration or shading? It's especially apparent in the dark, and on grey backgrounds. My phone has this exact problem, and I tried taking it to a Verizon store to exchange it and they refused, because the two S4's on display had similar issues (although less apparent). So either this is a very common problem on the S4 or I'm just incredibly unlucky. Would like to hear from other Galaxy S4 owners to see how widespread this really is.

My issue isn't smearing, it's permanent, faint vertical and horizontal streaks or lines.

Strange, my S4 doesn't has.. But my old GNexus had vertical lines visible only with white or green background.
I think is lucky.. If you can, change it or ask to technical assistance Samsung for display change..
I am also having same issue in my note2

I've only seen this happening within CWM when flashing new ROMs to my phone.
All my screens had it (I had it changed five times for various other issues).
Mine seems to be fine...

try to test the screen first.
Go to Dial Keypad and enter the code below:
*#0*#
Test your screen by dimming and check if lines would show clearer.

How were you able to convince them to change it that many times? All within the 14 days?

I didn't get a 1-1. Went to the service centre. First time it was an issue with the sound crackling but somehow they changed the screen when they shouldn't (and I still hate them for it).
The replaced screen had a greenish blotch in the middle, so back it went.
Third had two dead pixels so I sent it back.
Fourth they replaced on the spot for it had a big piece of dust inside the screen.
Fifth has a small speck of dust under the screen which they refused to change for me in the end.
Still quite a bummer that five screens later I still ended up with a less-than-perfect screen. But I just gave up and it doesn't affect me too much nowadays.
I have the same problem.

That's unfortunate. I haven't experience that on mine and hopefully never will. Possibly just a faulty device.

Yup, I have this issue too on my international S4 (GT-I9500). This only happens with grey. The screen tests for red, green and blue are perfect. And they're only usually visible in the dark. Best way to show them the problem is to search 'solid grey' on Google Images, save one of them and show them the image on full screen in the dark. After seeing that, it'll be pretty much impossible to deny that it is a problem. I took it to service and got a screen replacement under warranty, but it didn't help. Still has those stupid lines. Most apparent in the dark on solid gray. I'm taking it back to the store on Monday, if they replace the handset and that fixes it, I'll get back to you.
Me too
I think this is another variant of the smudges that are apparent in amoled screens sometimes. Search Google for lines in amoled displays or something similar. There's loads of threads talking about the same thing.
At any rate, it seems to just be luck of the draw as to how bad it is, or if you even get it at all.
At least, if you have them, they don't worsen over time, and any phones that are made with amoled screens can get them. I have two lines myself. I've just gotten used to it really. Don't see them now, unless I look hard for them.

My Galaxy S4 screen is strange. The top of the phone seems to be lighter than the bottom. As in when im texting the and I turn the phone sideways the blue bar that is there is a lighter blue on the left than it is on the right. This annoys me to no end and I want to know if this is normal or not. I also notice this in a ton of other apps when in landscape and it has a bar. Like Youtube.

im terrified to send it back because they will send me an updated bootloader version back.... its not a bad issue the screen still works. its just really annoying. Custom roms and Kernels i will take over anything.

If I were you, I will go and get it exchanged even if it get you one with the new firmware. Rooting is less important than quality of the phone to me.

Plus in time (not guaranteed) Usually there will be an exploit hack to get root. I'm sure someones working on something. Especially since some were able to keep root after updating
I can replicate the issue you are talking about in the messaging app. About an inch of the screen at the top is slightly darker. But only noticeable on certain colors. I tried all sorts of pictures and other things, I can only see it in the messaging all. The issue is there with all screen modes.
The S II had a very similar issue. There was a triangle of screen that was lighter than the rest, and under certain circumstances you could see black splotches. But both issues were only apparent when you worked hard to see it, but never under "normal" use.
From what I understand having a little inconsistency in AMOLED screens is unavoidable. I would rather have this issue than the washed out colors of an LCD screen, personally. I would wager the issue is probably there on every S4 if you look hard enough, it was on every S II I ever saw.
The only issue I saw that I felt was worth getting a new device was burn in. On the Captivate it happened after about 6 months, the S II about 9 months. I'm hoping that Trend (each phone lasting longer than previous gen until it burns in) continues with the Note, S III, Note II, on to the S4.

This seems to be a common issue. I'm on my third s4.
Phone 1: vertical lines
Phone 2: pink tint at bottom (screen darker at the bottom)
Phone 3: pink tint at top (screen darker at the top)
You can try exchanging it but there's no guarantee you will get a better screen. In fact you may get a worse one.
The qc on these phones seem to be pretty awful.
If the problem isn't too bad I would just keep it and try to get used to it.
The galaxy s2 had an issue where the left side of the screen had a yellow tint compared to the right side. Samsung eventually came out with an update to fix this issue. Hopefully they do the same with this problem.

Touché - I'm on my FIFTH S4 already. I documented the 1st 3, but I've lost patience now... I don't know what to do further???
http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s4/304256-s4-screen-uniformity-issues.html
This has been common with quite a few of the phones I've had. It's more of a yellowish tint at the bottom. I read that its most likely the glue that they use and that it will correct itself with time. I just never waited long enough to see if that was the case and always exchanged them.

where is your phone made from? mine is made in korea, it works perfectly. I heard the ones that are made elsewhere has lower build quality.

The vertical bands are only really visible on flat colours, but the green glow affecting the top two thirds of the display are always there on dark greys. I sent back my original Galaxy S4 for exactly the same problem...... Comparing this to my wife's Note 3, hers is perfect. Just curious how common this is with these screens. Easiest way to reproduce the issue is on Chrome with no tabs open, backlight set to minimum and with low/no ambient light. I like reading with white text on a black background, so it really bugs me :/
If a lot of people had this extreme issue, you would've seen a 1000 page thread. Get an exchange asap.

Well, I must be exceptionally unlucky then to have seen the same issue on two phones in a row...... You'd be amazed at how few people will have noticed this fault, even if their phone shows it.

Interesting. Maybe your wife's note 3 was made/assembled in a different factory than the two you had. You can check where it is made by pulling the battery a looking underneath (you will see Vietnam, China, or Korea ..threse are the most likely ..but it could be some other country since Samsung has a several factories.)
My advice is replace it again but this time check it in the store before taking it home.

Like previous responses have indicated, I would swap out your device ASAP and hopefully it's still within the return policy otherwise, you'll need to warranty it under the standard manufacturer warranty. This is not uncommon as you have to realize these devices are being mass produced. The odds of you having a similar issue with 2 devices is comical but not unheard of due to the amount of devices which are being manufactured.
Good luck with your new device and hope this post has answered your questions!
I am not Going to waste your time!
Read it Carefully: Truth is Oneplus 8 Pro Display issue is pretty solid. And there is literally nothing they can do to fix that issue via software as that is the Hardware problem.
For details see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dfF6JehZ0s
I have also attached two screenshot of that video at the attachment section.
1. First Screenshot is from The Early Unit
2. Second Screenshot is from The Replacement Unit
NB: Oneplus is trying to hide the display issue via software update by reducing the capability of dimming the brightness at low level I mean you can't lower the brightness like other phones or like the previouds unit of OP8 Pro where you could previously see those issue clearly. See that video by SuperSaf for better understanding. That's why people who got the device recently are not complaining about that but yet you can see those issue with replacement unit. And after zooming the video and photo you can clearly see a horizontal wide line through punch hole Camera. It is hardware issue literally as they could not master the Laser cut tech like Samsung. So, spend your money wisely!
So, now what
Pretty sure it's a Samsung display. Mine is flawless. Have had it since launch day. Maybe I got lucky?
What display issue? This is the best screen on a smartphone I've had.
Yeh, so far my screen is brilliant looking!
I hope most people with an effected screen makes a fuss to OnePlus so it hurts them in their pockets. I hate when the consumer takes the hit when OnePlus should be addressing the problem and being honest. I am lucky I feel in my unit but if OnePlus doesn't act transparent, this will be my first and last product I purchased.
My first unit had this problem too. I really loved the phone but couldn't stand the tint so I got a replacement unit. My replacement unit at first had the same problem on greys, but I wasn't interested in shipping it back because I had to import my phone to Australia (no official Oneplus store). So I decided to get rid of the grey in the system ui by using a pitch black substratum theme, and I never saw the problem again, even on grey. I even went looking for it the other day and still couldn't see anything worse than what I see on my galaxy tab s6 also with an amoled display. Either recent updates fixed the issue, or I just got charmed by the otherwise gorgeous display. I am not too salty about it at all personally.
My screen is great, no issues.
No issues on mine.
In fact not had any of the issues ever mentioned about the 1+8pro
Apologies to the OP, but I have to join the chorus here. I got my 8 Pro on the second, "pre-launch", and one of the first things I did upon receiving it was inspect the screen for the noted problems. Couldn't find one flaw and the display itself is simply beautiful. Best Android on the market, at the moment, imo.
I have to agree with the ones with a seemingly perfect display.
Got mine on launch and it's the best android phone I've ever owned.
I had mine pre-ordered and been using since day one. Not a single problem with the screen. In fact it's the best one I have ever had on a phone. Looks amazing. No issues here.
Got mine at launch. Tried all the tests I read here and had no problems. Beautiful display. The people that have problems are always the loudest. That doesn't mean it's everyone or even particularly widespread

Anyone having the black crush issue? I can see it when watching movies. Dark areas tend to go all black losing the detail. I can see more detail on my 3yr old samsung s8. Plus front cam looks softer than my s8 too. Any thoughts?

Why is it hard to believe people actually have a great screen?
I have had my 8pro since release day and haven't noticed any issues, I use dark mode on everything, I have wallpapers of all colours including greys, now, if you tell me I haven't look hard enough, then that's your problem. I absolutely love my phone and the screen. Best I've ever owned.
The phone is not without faults, but comments like yours assume that everyone has experienced the same things as you... Could it be the light receptors in your eyes are faulty? Cos my 20/20 vision has yet to see any green tint, and crushed blacks on my handset.
