[Q] N4 Filesystem question.. - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, general question about my N4's filesystem.
I have 2 directories @ /root:
- SD Card
- Sysytem
Question:
How come the content of the following directories is the same (and is the same as the contents of /SD Card)?
- System/mnt/sdcard/
- System/sdcard/
- System/storage/emulated/0/
- System/storage/emulated/legacy/
- System/storage/sdcard0/
Again, the contents of those directories is the same as the contents of SD Card...
thanks

Bind mounts.

So they're like 'shortcuts' that reference the original mount point, as opposed to being copies of the thing mounted, correct?

[Q] How to change the fstab?

The vibrant ( ansd also the I9000 ) has an internal SD Card. This card is mounted as /sdcard; the external SD card is mounted under / sdcard/sd.
Now;some Application can configured, that they store the information on the external SdCard, but on this phone it is the internal.
Does someone has an idea, how to add a line into the fstab, so that the external Sdcard will be mounted also under /sd ? Pls keep in mind, the fstab is in the flash and can not easy overwritten with an editor...
Maybe it is possible to add somewhere ${HOME}/rc.d with a ln command, so that the /sdcard/sd is also responsable as /sd ?

accessing mounted sdcard after creating a manual folder called /sdcard

hey folks,
while rooting my SGS2 i thought it would be a good idea to create a folder named sdcard in the root-directory and put some files i flashed via clockworkmod in it. this all while my phone had no sdcard inserted.
i did just assume if my phone has no sdcard and some flashing routine would expect a sdcard it would not fail, because android would have mounted the sdcard to this place/folder anyways, right ?
so after i rebooted the device suddenly android did actually put many files that where prior on the root-directory onto this sdcard (which until that time still was only a folder on root).
now i got myself a sdcard, inserted it (even formated it from android) and it is not mounted to /sdcard, since the content of that directory is still the same and the size (3 G free, 7 used or vice versa) does speak more for the internal mem since the sdcard only has 8 gigs of space. where would android mount the sdcard then ? if i go to /mnt/sdcard it does show the content of the sdcard-folder (again 3G+7G of space and not the size of the memory card).
any suggestions how to set this up properly, so that my "external" sdcard is properly registered in the system ?
thanks in advance =)

[SOLVED] Using NTFS formatted SD card

If a mod wants to delete this, please go ahead.
For anyone else, I was having a problem seeing my external SD card. It was formatted for NTFS, and could be mounted, but I couldn't see any files when I navigated to the directory /mnt/external_sd.
Well, it turns out that the card was named something I wasn't expecting (a string of characters). So, the files were under /mnt/"card name", not /mnt/external_sd

[Q] SDcard mounts - can they be changed ?

The SD card mounts in mnt/sdcard
external sdcard in mnt/sdcard/extstorages/sdcard - can this one be renamed to mnt/sdcard2 ???
As I have music and stuff on my external sdcard this path is stupid !
It does not work with Sandisk backup tool either as it is just linked in a folder.
Anyone know how to??

[Q] Removing internal SD card

Hi, apologies if this has already been asked but I can't find a thread actually covering this question.
Does anyone know if/how I can completely "remove" the internal emulated SD card on the S4? I've got a much larger external SD card and would prefer it if android saw this as the only SD card so that all apps that want to write to the SD card will automatically write to the external one (giving me the peace of mind that all "sd card" data is in the same place and that all of this data will persist even if I need to format the /data partition).
I'm rooted and running CM11, in case that's relevant.
I gather that on this phone the internal SD is just a folder under /data (rather than a separate partition). So I'm wondering if it's sufficient to simply delete the /data/media/ directory? (and move it's contents over to the external SD). Or if that's not enough, will a full format of /data do the job? Or will android still somehow "know" that this phone is supposed to have an internal SD and hence re-create it as soon as it boots again?
