accessing mounted sdcard after creating a manual folder called /sdcard - Galaxy S II General

hey folks,
while rooting my SGS2 i thought it would be a good idea to create a folder named sdcard in the root-directory and put some files i flashed via clockworkmod in it. this all while my phone had no sdcard inserted.
i did just assume if my phone has no sdcard and some flashing routine would expect a sdcard it would not fail, because android would have mounted the sdcard to this place/folder anyways, right ?
so after i rebooted the device suddenly android did actually put many files that where prior on the root-directory onto this sdcard (which until that time still was only a folder on root).
now i got myself a sdcard, inserted it (even formated it from android) and it is not mounted to /sdcard, since the content of that directory is still the same and the size (3 G free, 7 used or vice versa) does speak more for the internal mem since the sdcard only has 8 gigs of space. where would android mount the sdcard then ? if i go to /mnt/sdcard it does show the content of the sdcard-folder (again 3G+7G of space and not the size of the memory card).
any suggestions how to set this up properly, so that my "external" sdcard is properly registered in the system ?
thanks in advance =)

Format mnt/sdcard

Hi,
i have a strange problem:
i have a 8gb sd card in my xoom and run codename android 1.5.5
But somehow i have two mountpoints:
mnt/sdcard - is somehow on the internal storage
mnt/external1 - is the "real" sdcard
on mnt/sdcard is a folder from an app named "caustic" that i can't delete, so i tried to format /sdcard with clockworkmod, but it formatted my real sdcard (mnt/external1)
even if i do full wipe mnt/sdcard is not formatted....
do you have any clue what i can do??
thx...

I'd advise against formatting your internal SD card. Those who have done so ended up with a hard brick.
Instead, look up the adb commands to wipe user data while connected via usb to your pc. You can google it or try to search this section. That's the best way to start fresh but not lose your vital stuff/partitions, etc.
Okay, then i'll try that...thx!

[Q] How to remount /sdcard to my ACTUAL SD card?

I have a SD card installed in my i9500. As you know, i9500 has 16GB built-in RAM, and I found that /sdcard (also /mnt/sdcard) is mounted to internal storage(seems /storage/sdcard0), external SD card is located in /storage/extSdCard ( /mnt/sdcard mounted to here). But some old apps don't support customizing download destination, and most downloaded files went to the internal storage. Also there's some game saves in external SD, but they won't be detected. How I can fix that?
ps: Sorry for my bad English:silly:

Internal SD card disappeared!

I was having a weird bug. I could create folders on the internal SD card.
I was reinstalling an emulator (Drastic) when it started throwing a strange error about not being able to create a saves folder. After some investigation I found out I could not create *any* folder at all in the internal SD. More specifically, I cannot create a folder on the root of the internal SD; the external SD and all the other folders of the internal SD work as normal. In other words, I can not create a folder on /storage/sdcard0
Now, however, my internal SD cards has simply vanished! I am unable to find it on Settings > Storage or on my card. After rebooting back and forth it is back up, however it doesn't appear on my PC (neither in Linux nor in Windows) when I connect using mass storage, nor can I still create folders. The external SD appears on Windows Explorer as normal (and I can run chkdsk on it).
Running chkdsk on the internal SD yields the following error message: "Cannot open volume for direct access." even though it is listed on the drive list.
I think I have provided all the info I can. I would be grateful for any help.
PS: Nobody on my device forum seems to have this issue, so it's not a ROM or device problem.
You tried reflashing with other ROM mate?

The problem was not the ROM. Yesterday I ran fsck on it and it fixed all issues.

Are you sure that the microsd card is ok with no damage ? I kindly advise that you can test the condition of the microsd card directly on other PCs or make use of this microsd card after inserted into a gadget like the following : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GLL40SA . If it works, you may try to format the card and process the same operation like creating folders. Remember to back up the important data anyway.

[Q] Help i9500 S4 : internal SD card not mounted and vanished

Hello,
Will try to explain the situation to my best possible knowledge :
1. Was running Crash ROM 4.4.2 on Galaxy S4 i9500 , have got all the required apps installed and configured the way I wanted.
2. Running the stock kernel which comes with the Crash ROM installation.
3. Running Phillz touch recovery 6.3.xx
4. Have external micro sd card (16GB UHC SanDisk) . Crated 1st primary partition as FAT32 and 2nd primary as Ext3 for moving apps.
5. Did install Link2SD and correctly moved all apps linked to the 2nd external SD card partition.
6. Was able to connect a USB flash drive via female USB connector (host mode) and take titanium backup of all apps.
7. Everything mounted correctly and automatically, with correct permissions to read/write without me worrying or fixing any setting or changing anything.
Since I had everything in order, I thought of making a nandroid backup via Phillz recovery . The problem when I tried taking a nandroid baclup which presents custom backup option to either "/sdcard" or "/storage/sdcard1 (which i assume refers to external microSD card".
I tried taking a backup at both locations and was informed that I am short of space , the backup needed 4+GB whereas I had 2+GB on internal SD and 3+ GB on external microSD available.
So i thought to reboot and try making some space anywhere, thats when the nightmare started.
After reboot, now there was
1. A message for low space remaining
2. Google play store continually crashing and giving a "stopped" message.
I fixed the error no. 2 temporarily by uninstalling google play store (updates, cache and then the app itself).
However error no.1 persists, now when try running any app to see what and how much space is left in the internal and external SD cards, it seems that the internal SD card is not mounted somehow.
I have tried runnning ES explorer and it says no SD card found. Even though I can browse to the root partition. Then I tried Link2SD (which has an option of seeing storage info nicely) and I can that the bar for SD card is blank and all other places or mount points are mounted.
Even the apps residing on my external microSD 2nd partition are working fine, however I noticed that earlier the external microSD card, when seen from inside a booted and loaded ROM was mounted at the location " /storage/extSDcard , but now it is mounted at "/mnt/media_rw/extSDcard"
But my internal SD card is vanished, I cannot find any contents of the "internal SD" in any of the locations at /storage , /storage/emulated/legacy, /storage/emulated/0, /sdcard, /mnt/sdcard, /mnt/obb and possibly any other location I can think of.
I believe the mount points and logical links are different as seen by the phillz recovery (as there is no /storage/sdcard1 when seen from Es explorer) , and as seen when the ROM is fully booted and loaded, so when trying to take a nandroid backup via Phillz recovery, it might have messed up with the mount points and/or permissions.
I hate doing a complete re-flash of the ROM again and spending hours to get all the apps customized my desired way, with all widget settings.
I am not an expert or pro at android, hence I request your help to sort out the issue, and maybe send or guide me the default way the S4 handles mount points, so I can get back the SD card and also guide me how to make a the nandroid backup to avoid this fiasco again.
Thanks for reading.

[Q] Internal storage not mounting

My galaxy s5 started showing memory full when all storage programs said there was about 5 gb left.
I downloaded foldermount and it said it found the issue so it was going to repair it.
Well after I rebooted. The internal sd card(phone memory) is not mounting.
When connected to the PC, it shows 128mb.
on ES FIle explorer SDCARD shows "???" and when I attempt to open it ask what file I want to open it with, but with the program storage analyzer it finds the "data" folder just fine and lists all the files and folders within it.
In the phone settings options, it can show the amount of memory being used along with the media, mp3, apps, so the Folder is still there along with all the info, it is simply not mounting properly?
Thank you.
UPDATE: I found the path of where all my files are at, but the phone is not mounting it as the internal storage?
It is located at data/media/0
UPDATE: I found the path of where all my files are at, but the phone is not mounting it as the internal storage?
It is located at data/media/0 and mnt/sdcard0 or mnt/sdcard1 are missing.
* Aside from Phone being rooted, there were no other modifications
* Phone is running on original OS(as opposed to roms or such)
*There is not an external sd card in the phone
