Scroll lag? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone experiencing the occasional scroll lag in apps and while browsing the internet? Just got this phone 4 days ago and I'm not happy how scrolling lags so much. My galaxy s3 never lagged this much when scrolling..

Note 3 performance: is there any lag?

I read a couple of reviews saying that touchwiz stutters here and there on the Note 3. Can anyone who has the phone speak on this? Thanks!

Where exactly is "here and there"? I would like to check that to answer your question better.
But i personally don't see any stutter or lag in touchwiz. The only thing i can remember that stutters badly, but very very badly, completely unusable, is the gallery. It's just terrible. Downloading the Gallery ICS from the store, and the thing flies.
I have the N-9005 version btw.
I haven't noticed any stuttering at all.
No lag but I want faster response time. Note 3 touch response time a bit faster than Note 2, slower than S4.

Ive had it for a week now and filled it with apps with a 64gig microsd.
its smoooooooth . No lag at all.

i think the complete opposite, this reminds me of touch response on my 5s, I thought the s4 touch response was terrible.

^^ non so far either, i got like 5 apps on it and have been using it heavily all day.
Gallery lags, get QuickPic instead. There is sometimes a stutter or screen touch response when hitting the home and apps button. Micro stutter almost. Browser sometimes has stutters.
I'm comparing to another Snapdragon device the G2 and touchwiz is not as smooth as LG's launcher and the G2 screen is more responsive to touches.
Its better than my S4's octalag out of the box. Thats for sure. But not 100% lag free unfortunately more like 97% lagfree. Close but no cigar

And I will say just opposite except for s4 part. Absolutely no lag in these 4 days of using Nothing to report...

I think it's acceptable then. As far as the home button lag it usually is because of S voice. Disable it and you should see a big improvement.

I'm picking my phone up on Friday, but I heard the screen sensitivity can be adjusted in settings menu to increase response time for when ur wearing gloves. Try that and see if it helps?

It's pretty smooth , only some frame drops in some apps and sometimes animations stutter.
I'm pretty "lag sensitive" and coming from an iPhone I have to say that it's probably one of the smoothest.

Have it since 3 days (SM-N9005) and didn't noticed a lag, it didn't stutter at all and I hadn't a force close at all.

I've rooted it now and uninstalled some s apps that caused lag it seems. I didn't need health, samsung apps etc etc. Much better now. Smooth now.

do you have a tutorial to do this?
I have a stock Note 3, and swiping between homescreens is smooth. Lag (jank/hitches/stutter) occurs when scrolling in the browser (some sites perform better than others - but even the sites that perform poorly on the Note 3 perform great on iOS). Scrolling in the ScrapBook is not smooth - very janky/jittery. Same thing with Google Play (the main screen). Scroll and it jitters and stutters a lot. Even does strange screen refreshes at odd times. Scrolling HTML emails stutters (again, some scroll more smoothly than others, but most stutter).
It depends on how sensitive you are to jank.
I am bit disappointed overall. It's not as smooth as my s4, and my nexus 7 2013 is faster and smoother. For example, scrolling home screens is a bit jerky. Native apps can be a little slow to open, say when on the settings menu and making changes and it goes to a sub screen. Makes me realise what a great buy the N7 2ed is.

No lag here n9005 .. no lag in the gallery.. in fact its the fastest gallery I ever seen
Had some occasional lag when I was on MI7 but everything is buttery smooth with the latest MJ7!
Man my phone was released a month ago. I expect lag/software glitches. Early adopters are always mass market beta testers. The hardware specs are proof that all lag is software related. Personally mine runs impressively smooth.

That's interesting, because my Gallery is completely unusable. It's so slow and laggy i can't use it. I have installed a couple of 3rd party gallery and they are all much much faster (Quickpick and ICS Gallery).
How is this possible?!

Lag

For some reason my S5 has become really slow the last few days. Texts don't load sheet they're sent and other things in general just lag. I don't have any apps that I haven't had before so I'm not sure what the issue is. Any ideas for speeding it up?

Stuttering and scroll lag (the solution?)

Hi,
I noticed a lot of people are getting lags while scrolling and other stutters. I've also had these, but yesterday after installing a new fast large sd card (in my case Samsung EVO) all these issues disappeared.
My old SD was very old.
Wanted to check if people who experience lag, what storage are you using and how full is it?

I have a Samsung sd card too http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/memory-storage-accessories/MB-MP64DA/AM
I think it's ok, it is the same as you?
It's pretty empty right now but the scrolling lag is UNBEARABLE, it seems even worse that on the Nexus 5 on certain applications (Google +), the weird thing is that the device in itself his pretty quick in opening switching applications, no lag on home screen drawer, 3D games extremely fluid. Only that damned listviews, seems to be scrolling through glue.

Performance Problems? Significant stuttering in Chrome, etc.

Overall, the performance on my Nexus is quite good, but I routinely run into stuttering on webpages in the Chrome Browser. A good example of this is theverge.com. If I wait for that website to load and scroll up and down at moderate or fast speeds, I run into some very significant stuttering.
Other webpages exhibit this problem to varying degrees, but I can almost always find some hint of it. Elsewhere on the phone, I can also see some stuttery elements, such as on the Play Store while browsing apps, or scrolling through a single app description.
Best as I can tell, these stutters seem to trigger as I am scrolling towards an image in both cases.
Anybody else experiencing this? Not sure if this is just how it is.
1. Wrong section to post....
2. Do you scroll before the page loads completely... Which case is expected...
3. I just opened theverge.com on nexus5 as 6p is still shipping... No issues... Can't really believe that 6p would stutter
4. Congrats for the new phone
No lag when scrolling on the verge for me.
I see it on Engadget but that is because their mobile site sucks and loads a couple articles at a time as you scroll. Not the phones fault there.
I haven't noticed any stutter or lag on any sites. Just when phone was installing apps on first boot.
No stuttering for me unless data is still loading in a low signal area. I often have multiple chrome tabs open and if they are fully loaded then I can scroll seamlessly.
Yeah I've experienced stutter here and there while using Chrome too. Check your cached processes to see how much free ram you have. I think mines generally smoother when I have more free ram there.
Definitely stutter and lag

You are not alone. I have noticed the same thing. Many instances of stutter and lag. This is definitely not a lag free device as many said it was. Chrome is fairly smooth but stutter is there sometimes. Facebook and play store are two of the worse culprits. I have tried clearing the cache, haven't factory reset because I have hardly any apps installed (no games). No phone is perfect but perormance is fairly good.

Scrolling has almost been perfect for me . It's another story for my nexus 6 ,tho. Playstore always lags no matter what device you are browsing with. But it's barely noticeable on 6P.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/help/chrome-laggy-t3253466/page3 Might be this helps you
I have experienced this issue, but it seems to only happen when power-saver has kicked in (10% battery life for me).

Scrolling smoothness

Some phones exhibit choppy scrolling, especially when navigating long web pages when multiple apps are running in the background. Rate this thread to express how you smooth scrolling feels on the Samsung Galaxy S10 under such conditions. A higher rating indicates that scrolling is always buttery smooth, even when you're reading a 10,000 word article on "how to kiss a girl".
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
As far now, I didn't notice any lags during scrolling and Even when I do Multi-tasking. Phone keeps more apps in memory.

Yes the phone performs well and good.
Smoothest Android experience I've ever had yet and I used Huawei EMUI 8 before, which is also extremeley smooth.
Stock Android doesn't run as smooth as EMUI or ONE UI do.
Only iOS runs smoother, but I thinks it's also the touch implementaion into iOS, not only optimized software.
I had an S7 as a work phone until last year and this was so terrible to work with. It lagged everywhere. Samsung made a huge effort with One UI.
The only time I've noticed some stutter is the odd time when swiping down the notification shade on the lock screen. Even then, it's been very rare.
S10 scrolling is okay, iOS still has the great scrolling experience I've had. I hope Android or maybe Samsung can mimic that scrolling behavior.
I used an iPhone X before and with my new S10 the scrolling feels really strange. I also tested it on a S9 of a fried and there it is the same.
It definetily is really smooth, but if you flick scroll for example in Instagram and you want to stop scrolling with tap-holding the screen again, then there is a small delay. Also the scroll speed is very strange in my opinion. Does somebody have the same issue?
The scrolling on my iPhone X definetily feels more natural.
Does somebody also noticed a small stutter when scrolling through the YouTube feed? Same with reddit.
Yes! I did, but on a 10e and only sometimes. Its the same in Nova App Drawer and Whatsapp for instance.
Maybe I'm tripping and also I've read that now every app uses gpu to draw 2D but maybe you should tell me your experience with this option enabled in devs options.

I'm so glad I found this thread. This problem is driving me nuts.
On Verizon S10.
Mine is doing fine. I think the reason is more ram compared to the samsung S8 I had. More ram maybe indicates we see few years of updates for the S10.
Mine is choppy and laggy. Also kinda freezes sometimes too. I synced data from my s8 when I got it so will try a fresh install not synced

Yes mine is exynos too. I have suspected it to be due to this partly possible

I agree 1 is too slow, and you can set .75 animation speed using adb

Ironically exynos isnmuch more optimised as its samsung home grown chipset ; look at snapdragon counter part it laggs much more but its much better at battery !
Problem with exynos is bad battery life and overheating issue !
