Please do. Interested to know the practical difference in art apps between the wi-fi Exynos and the LTE SnapDragon. I have the p900, and some art apps have been terrible (Art Rage), while others have been fast.. (ArtFlow, Sketchbook Pro) in general I am very sensitive to lag in art apps while painting and drawing. I use a suped up Fujitsu T902 tabletPC daily and it has zero perceivable lag even in HUGE documents, so I'm a bit spoiled. However the touch experience in apps on Android is far superior than on Windows, so it is fun, lag withstanding.

How has the LTE version been for you? Is it less laggy than our exynos in art apps??
Would love to hear some observations on painting with the Snap Dragon version.

Totallyyy heavily confused between s3 and note ! !

Hey guys i need your help urgently ! !
I am in a big trouble of buying a smartphone. My 2 choices are galaxy s3 and note.
these are the points that i like about each:-
galaxy s3:-
1.Best performance
2.Lots of added features
3.one of the best camera with burst mode too
4.Great battery life
5.WOLFSON
galaxy note:-
1.bigger better screen imo(its brightness is about 100 cd/m2 more than s3)
I know that s3's ppi is better but that mere 15ppi doesnt mean anything to me
2.Its by far much better looking than s3
3.spen
My main reason for loving the note more than the s3 is its SCREEN.Its sooo bigger and hence better for browsing, gaming, movies etc.
So here my maib questions are:-
1.Is the performance soo much better on s3 than note, specially the gpu?
because i love gaming and the gpu performance is what i need the most ! !
2.I heard and have seen that the ui of s3 so fluent that its now on par with iphone? Then how will be the ui of note?
3.how will be the browser comparision between s3 and note?
I am in hurry for gettibg one because in india we have some offer for note,in which samsung gives sennhieser headphone, flip cover,3000(60usd) games totally for free and this offer experies on 31st may.So what to choose?Even the note 2 will be launched in may be september,so is buying note good idea?
so plzzzzzz help meeeeeeee. . ... ...
thankx to all in advance....
Don't get note for now. I think you should get the best Samsung out there aka s3.
Sent from my HTC One X on Leedroid's ROM v5.1.0.
you should simply go for s3 , it beats note on all aspects except the screen size(if you like the bigger screen).
s3 packs the most powerful gpu for a mobile that are released so far.
Mate go for what you like at the end of the day, You're getting the phone for your needs. Just get the one you think is best suited for you ...
Ya all of you are right.I should be going for s3,but i think that the s3 is a bit narrow on the display front, isnt it? and may be thats why the resolution differ on both i.e 720p vs 800p?
BTW i am currently a s8500 user,i know the s3 will be the right jump for me but is the screen that too smaller than the note?
Personally, I'd go for the newer, better spec'd SIII over the Galaxy Note.

Well it's 0.5 inch smaller than the note. That means around 1.25cm in diagonal range. On a phone it's obvious if you put them next to each other but otherwise I think you will be really happy with S3's screen.
Also just to add to your first post regarding the specs... S3 has C-Pen, it's almost identical to note's S-Pen. Just so you know

If screensize is really important to you take the note or wait until Note 2. The size of the note is imo much bigger. Look at youtube videos aka note vs gs3, there are plenty of them. There you will see it.
I have the same problem atm and I think I will wait for the note 2. But I don't know whether I the Note can replace my ipad for browsing...

I'm sorry but I really hate these types of responses. It doesn't offer the OP any real advice either way. He's asking specific questions about performance and quality and answers like this don't tell him anything.
Edit: OP, get the S3 and don't look back. It'll have much better dev support as well, being a flagship device.
Herp derp Captivate XDA Premium App.
Easy, get the Note now, enjoy that big ass screen. Then get the Note 2 and sell the old one.
I hope the Tmobile SGS Note comes with the S4 processor....
I had the Note and I'm planning to get the SIII. I think if you are a business or artistic kind of guy or use EverNote or have other uses for the wacom pen should be your main reason for getting it.

You can refer to these benchmarks for now, the Note will be slower, but for real world usage it fast enough to perform any mobile tasks, due to the dualcore Exynos at 1.4ghz. It has the same Mali GPU as the S3, you shouldn't miss out much on the gaming side. I'd say inevitably the S3 will perform faster for gaming, but I don't think will big enough of a difference to matter (besides the typical nerds bragging rights).
Games will still look nicer on the Note big screen. Another advantage with its large screen is if you use onscreen gamepads a lot, you have large area to move your thumbs so the controls seems to register better. It's decent enough that I can play a lot of 'classic' games without needing a physical controller. I think the S3 will be on par too though since its a big screen too.
(its brightness is about 100 cd/m2 more than s3)

Do not worry about screen brightness for either devices, both Note and S3 will be very bright with these AMOLED screens. The Note at 100% brightness is equivalent to staring at the Sun.

I don't have an SIII yet, so I don't know. As for the Note, if you have lots of stuff installed on a non-rooted Stock rom, there will be some lag in animation with touchwiz interface, but if you custom rom and use a lighter launcher, its smooth. It also have ICS now, so that might improve things.
3.how will be the browser comparision between s3 and note?

I don't know, I don't have the S3 yet, there are new software features and improvements with the S3. But large screen of the Note is a winner here obviously to me, text will be just a bit bigger, sometimes you don't even need to zoom in. It is possible that the S3 can render webpages faster, but I don't know.
Overall, it will be a hard choice, if depends on how much cheaper you can get a Note over the new S3, if you can save at least $200USD by getting the Note over the S3 than its a good deal. If you enjoy large screen estate go for Note, its easier for reading and watching HD movies on it is fantastic. It has excellent camera, great battery life (2500mAh, ICS as well, and better look (imo). If I was someone who already have a Nexus or Note (international), I would not upgrade to the S3, unless I have money to burn. I will get the S3 though since I always want to try the latest stuff and it has some interesting new software features that I don't think Samsung will port to older models because they want you to buy their latest phones.
Same "dilemma" except I have the Note.....I say BUY the Note USED.....try it then decide. You can't lose too much. I have never bought a new International device. Probably won't with the S3 either.
I love the Note's screen. In fact that is the reason I bought one. I still have a back up SGS2 but will sell that when I get the S3 and use the Note as a back up to our phones. The DAC is what tipped the scales for me. I had an iTouch mounted to my bike and had plugged in my earbuds to it when I went for longs rides. (and short ones) The Captiave, SGS2 and Note relagated my iTouch 4 to permant duty on my nightstand alarm where it inevr gets used as my phones also are my alarm clocks.......Be really nice to have some VooDoo Sound again. (Although VooDoo Louder came in handy on my bike.)
I am HOPING I won't miss the screen size of the Note and the trade offs for the many benefits the S3 has to offer in may other areas are worth it. Such as the ease of pocket carrying ( I LIKE the rounded corners LOL) , the many additional features, The Pen is something I do use and will use more since flashing to official ICS as it is virtually no lag anymore.
The SGS2 screen is too small for me anymore. I am not going back there. I think a slightly smaller screen will work better ergonomically.
I have no issue with using the phone with two hands although ICS now has "one hand mode" for the Note" where the keyboard and dialer are rendered smaller and moves to the left in effect giving on the same size as an S2 or iPhone.
Then the Note 2 may or may not come out if those using Note find the S3 covers all the bases well enough.

This is one article talking about that pen. I think there is an actual photo of that pen somewhere.
I think we are talking for 2 really nice phones here but if you would ask me, I would choose SGS3 since it has better screen (pixel density and other improvements).
For me if the gs3 supports the pen feature...then its gonna b my next phone

Guys i tried a lot for convincing myself to go for the s3,but my heart doesnt allow me for that Its still crying for the 5.3 inch hd samoled
So plz tel me how will be the gaming performance on both?
The main reason bothering much is now its the quadcore season so many apps will be made accordingly for the quadcores......So can i still be able to play those highly graphich demanding games at a good fps on note?
Only the processor is the factor that is stopping me from getting galaxy note! !
I will go for GS3. But, I still have a soft corner for Note. I will suggest OP to wait for Note 2.
Here's my reasons -
I suspect (no insider information, purely connecting dots) Note 2 will have Exynos 5 SoC. I think Exynos 5 just went into mass production in Q2, and was never ready for being implemented into SGS3.
We definitely can expect incremental update in Note's screen. So, either it would be HD SAMOLED PLUS or something like a PenTile 1600 x 1000 resolution keeping the aspect ratio same as OG Note.
But the most important factor could be Samsung huge marketing and developer push for S Pen apps.
They now have a $ 4million prize money for Note and Tab apps. Just a month back they had another S Pen app contest.
http://www.smartappchallenge.com/eng/main.do
You could be getting much better Pen apps.
In either case, both phones will have great support and winner in their own respect.
The note has much more of a "tablet-esque" functionalities to it with handwriting recognition and such.
S3 has only standard android handset features plus the newly demoed items which are unrelated to a tablet style larger screen interface.
For me the question you need to be asking is "do i need tablet functionality and screen size more than i need processing/graphics power and the new added features in S3's touchwiz (smartstay, svoice etc)?"

Huh? I think the answer is clear which phone you want.
It would be extremely handy to have som release information on the next Note, now. I am considering getting that instead of the SGS 3. I have the SGS 2 and the only thing I miss is screen real estate. And lots of it

People who prefer the Galaxy Note over the S3, please do share your experience here.

Hi guys,
I know there are many similar threads like "Note vs. S3" and "S3 vs. Note" here but I wanted to bring everyone's opinions under one roof and make it clear for future buyers of either devices.
Those of you who own or have used the Galaxy S3 and still prefer the Galaxy Note over it, please do share your reasons and experience here.
I own both the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy S3 and to be frank, I prefer the Note over the S3 despite the S3 being newer, more powerful, etc.
I had bought the Note in June reluctantly as I was afraid it would be too uncomfortable to use due to the screen size. I was leaning more towards the S3 as it was a more valid upgrade over my S2 and the latest newest piece of technology in town. But the initial asking price for the S3 was quite high for me and hence I decided to give the Note a try, slightly worried that this may be the worst decision I made as an upgrade, (again due to the size) but I was mistaken.
Anyways luckily after a month, my dad bought an S3 and hence I got to use the phone in a more personalized manner and guess what? I prefer the Note over the S3.
The reasons being:
a) Screen: I've grown so used to the Note's screen size that it makes me feel that the s3 is small and the S2 which set the standard for screen size in 2011 looks tiny. The screen of the note is also much brighter than the S3 ( I'm not talking accurate measurements but percievable brightness). The note at the lowest brightness is equivalent to the S3 at 30-40% brigntness. Its also great browsing on the bigger screen. There are disadvantages with the Note's screen too, mainly the poor gamma calibration, banding and clipping but the positives weigh over the negatives.
b) ]The S-Pen: This is maybe the main reason why I prefer the Note over the S3. The S-Pen still amazes me with its accuracy and using the S3 makes me "miss" the S-Pen. Makes me wonder why the S-Memo and S-Note exist on the S3. And sketching on the S3 during leisure hours is pure bliss.
I'm not much of a gamer and I havent seen much apps which utilize the dual core processing other than benchmarking tools, so for me, quadcore A9 just doesnt cut it, atleast for now. Lets talk Cortex A15s and then maybe I'm game.
So what is the only thing which I find attractive on the S3?
The Wolfson WM1811 Audio Chip ofcourse. The wolfson on the original Galaxy S, changed the scene for Music on a Mobile Phone. Hence, I have high hopes about this one too.
Apart from this, I dont find anything else attention grabbing about the S3. Nothing revolutionary either. To be frank, I regret cutting my SIM into a MicroSIM to trial the S3 for a couple of days. Will revert back to the Note soon.
Disadvantages of the Note (My experience)
Screen again: Improper gamma calibration of the Note's screen causes a noticeable amount of black clipping in images and videos which depict dark shades or shadows.
The EMMC Brick Bug: Considering that every Galaxy Note has the chip with the faulty firmware, it makes me fear owning the phone beyond warranty period as even though however careful we may be, accidents do happen. This and the time when dualcores may be lacking (which isnt soon) may be the only reasons for me to sell the Note.
Will I ditch the Note and buy the Note 2?
If its about the quadcore A9's, Maybe Not
Considering the S3 still costs atleast 200$ more than the Note, The Note 2 would definitely be more expensive than the S3, which makes it much more expensive than the Note, Hence making it difficult and a pointless upgrade for people who've bought the Note recently.
And maybe if the Note 2 comes with anything truly "revolutionary", I might consider it, but again, not anytime soon.
So people who've moved on from the Note to the S3, who are planning to or who still prefer the Note over the S3, please do share your opinions here. Also please make it a point to share the reason why you prefer one over the other. This would help other people who are confused between both. This can also help some people understand their needs and maybe even save some considerable amount of money.
Please share your opinions in the following order, making it easier for readers to follow.
A.) If you prefer the Note over S3,
a.) Reasons: (Advantages based on experience)
b.) Disadvantages (Again based on experience)
B.) For those who've moved on to the S3 from the Note but still own one,
a.) Advantages of the S3 over the Note (based on experience)
b.) Disadvantages of the S3 compared to the S3 (based on experience)
C.) Will you upgrade to the Note 2 upon launch?
Please note that the advantages or disadvantages you post are ONLY based on experience and NOT merely Technical Specs. Anyone would prefer going for the latest anyday if it was mere Technical Specifications.
would like to see Note 2, i am sure it will be better than s3..
I have seen S3, and it looks pretty good too. But I love the size of our BIG G Note
Hi I use my note for the past six months and it gives me better satisfaction over s3....because the screen size, s note and the speed.
As a normal user with the given drugs of games the speed is more than enough.. I prefer my note than my system for gaming.

Same here. Even if S3 had 8 cores and 4gb of RAM i'd still prefer the Note. Great specs are useless if you have a tiny screen ( hello iphone )
Galaxy note screen size is both its biggest advantage and disadvantage. I love the size. Guess its the biggest size of a phone that you can carry. I think coz the phone is so slim its managable. I use the phone mostly in a landscape mode so get the tab experience.
S3 seems like your everyday phones. I dont know why its priced so high. Guess the price will fall soon.

I have both the s3 just does not do anything for me yes its virtually lag free however screen is too small compared to note. Everything has less impact than the note. And i dont think the s3 could feel any cheaper. I know sammy use more plastic than lego but the S3 just feels tacky compared to my note which is yhe blue one as i know the white one also has the glossy black plate like the s3

The only mob with stylus/S Pen which is an ease of access
...also after the 4.0.4 update everything is just gr8 except some minor UI probs but again Sammy is there for us....pls Sammy give us a gud news JELLY BEAN

Note is of course is still better compare to S3.
Other than the censors on it, S3 has nothing to boost up.
Screen is not as big as Note
Has S-Note and S-Memo, but no S-Pen to support. At the end you have to write / draw with ur fingers, which defeat its purpose.
But yes, S3 screen, sounds, and battery is slightly better than Note. Still, comparing the price and the functions, Note is still all the way best to S3.
Till Note-2 comes up (and if it's much better than N7000), I will stick to this N7000.
The S-Pen makes me easier in work also. :highfive:
I use and alwasy bring both S3 and Note whereever I go
But in term of speed, S3 is awesome
I would buy Note 2 only if it can make a recording continously while writing using SNote application.
Currently, when the screen getting off, the record will stop and when adding the new page as well.
I also have Flyer that can make a record and writing continously, however due to the weight, I use Note more than Flyer.
I love all my gadget, actually :victory:
Note is Better than S3
I've used galaxy s3 for a month now and i found it very buggy ..
i prefer galaxy note and i hope note2 will be better than s3
Advantages of S3 -
Best, smoothest Touchwiz stock launcher from samsung till date
holding grip
pixel density is amazing , super clear
smart stay (can be installed on note too with smartstay ex but its not the same)
Goes into pocket very easily..
gorilla glass
Disadvantages of S3
microphone malfunction - i face it sometimes..
random reboots when running high processing power games
smaller screen than galaxy note
back cover isn't impressive .
camera is same as note - when u transfer photos to computer n view it u wont find major differences
battery life is very low of 3.5 hours
gets heated up more than note
Advantages of Note -
bigger screen
s pen
s apps
dual core processor is almost perfect for playing popular games
battery life of 6hours on hardcore gaming on low brightness n when sound is turned off
Disadvantages of Note -
No Gorilla glass , delicate screen - gets scratches very easily
laggy stock launcher
ics 4.0.4 fixed all the bugs previously which were - hangs, laggy browser, task manager fake reading..
dual core processor - i feel its enough for gaming but ppl out there think its too low..
Hope this helps ..please press thanks if this helped :good:

I have different experience from yours
My GNote is hotter than S3 when playing game (Asphalt 7)
My S3 Battery lasts longer than GNote
Cheers
I like the big screen size coz I'm using it to replace my gtab.
Galaxy S3: Faster, better battery life.
Galaxy Note : Bigger and better screen.
Verdict: Galaxy Note.

I'll bite.
I chose the Note over S3 because it's more useful.
S3's advantages based on my smartphone usage as an IT professional and Android enthusiast with explanations:
Quadcore/faster CPU. This is a valid an good advantage, but by no means is the Note slow or incapable, the S3 is just better.
Umm... http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Samsung-GALAXY-Note,Samsung Galaxy S III/phones/6116,6330
Scrolling down...
Oh, 4.0 Bluetooth stack, ummm...
Gyroscope that I would really need for... something.
Let's look at the Note's advantages:
Bigger screen. That's quite nice, but the S3's screen is still really good.
Higher resolution. A little bit, but not enough to get worked up over.
S-Pen. This depends on if you would use it. I use mine WAY more than I expected to.
Okay, so cost to buy them...
Note is about $550, S3 is about $600, so not much difference.
Well, what do you want? Big screen and S-Pen or a quadcore?
It really comes down to that question.
I compared my Note with CM9 ICS ROM to Stock Galaxy S3 and Note was way smoother and faster. Also i can't think of going back to smaller screen... To me S3 doesn't offer anything, that Note couldn't offer.
Rooted Galaxy note with Asylum ICS ROM and Google Now is WIN!

The galaxy Note also has a gyroscope. Some of the specs listed on your link is wrong.
The only features differenciating the Galaxy S3 from the Note is:
Quadcore, Smaller but better calibrated screen, Latest bluetooth stack, Really optimized, more functinal and visually pleasing touchwiz, cheaper quality plastics
And for the Note, Dual core, bigger and much brighter screen though poorly color calibrated, Wacom digitizer which is the actual magic behind the S-Pen, sturdier build quality.

S4 performance vs note 2

i have Note 2 right now and i am gonna sell it tomorrow to get S4. i went to store this week to test S4 before purchase. S4 was faster than Note 2. you will not note it that much but i have my own kinda "steps" to compare the smartphones.
the only issue i have and i fear is the over heating issue of S4. i guess it will be gone because even my S3 used to get very hot in the beginning when i purchased it last year but later updates resolved the issue.
so im hoping S4 would also get an update for the over heating issue.
other than that, S4 has almost 80% better screen than Note 2! and im a movie buff and heavy internet user so i love the screen of S4. camera performance is also great. i will recommend u to get S4
choice is your though

i have Note 2 right now and i am gonna sell it tomorrow to get S4. i went to store this week to test S4 before purchase.

How do you measure that "80% better screen" part exactly? For me, at least on such smaller screens, 1080p is a bit pointless. The high ppi is great though as it's pentile and I could clearly see the graininess on S3, which I can't on S4. While watching movies, I personally can't notice any difference between N2 and S4 - and N2 has more screen real estate, ergo I prefer it for watching movies than S4. And personally, I prefer rgb over pentile (personal preference though).
However where you would notice a difference is while browsing - the screen is marginally sharper than N2. Again that's my experience from using S4 briefly although I don't plan to own one.
As for speed, both phones are fast when it comes to the UI, but without doubt S4 will handle resource intensive tasks better. But Note 2 has handled anything I've thrown at it well without any issues so far anyways. Hell, even S2 handles most apps fine even now, so that shouldn't be a problem with either of these devices.
As far as perfornence concerned...after all note 2 is better
S4's octa cores are better only for bencmark & gimmic...whereas note is real performer...no heat issue, more ram available , heating & more battery friendly....everybody knows these are key features to be better performmer
Bigger screen
Wel costomized firmware
Better battery
No such heatin problem
More free ram
Now much cheaper than s4
Great dev support in XDA
(u can use all kind of roms, apps tweaks & mods...even many s4 features )
S pen creativity
And dont forget...Fm app
I think untill note 3 or s5, note 2 is best deal
.............
Lets see s4 features
Screen smearing
Battery draining
Heating
Jerks in TW
More bloatwares ...almost half of 16 gb
More to come

Note 2 seems faster, perhaps due to the chipset having half the pixels to push data to.
I agree that with a display this size, 1080 seems overkill if compromising performance. That said, I may just be rationalzing since Verizon might only be offering the 16gb model and I will not trade my 32gb S3 for that.

u asked me to explain and wrote all that long comment or urs... lols
any ways... 80% better screen means i can see more pixels on note 2 screen than i could on my S3. note 2 screen is better for watching videos and thats it. anything higher than 720p was sharper but below that i can see pixels. there is also black clipping on some of the note 2 devices as reported by some of users. but s4 just does not have that. dont know how u can say s4 screen is just a tad sharper than note 2 screen i found it to be a lot sharper than note 2 screen! and just cause of the sheer size of the screen and so widely spread pixels cause of the lower resolution, the note 2 really got hot after using especially when more whites are displayed on the screen. it used to lag a lot when going from app drawer to the widget section and the lag is considerably lowered now in s4.
so over all s4 is better than note 2 in almost every way and oh the s pen, dont talk about that! cause until dont have real good use scenario for it or u have lots of free time and u have really good drawing and hand writing its useless and i really didnt use it that much after my first 10 days with note 2!

You can see pixels on Note 2? You must have super vision or something. I do see grainyness on S3 if I look hard, but Note II? Really? Especially since the Note II has larger pixels. Probably placebo effect IMO.
I never had black clipping (and from what I hear from Erica, Note II is better than S4 in this regard, not the other way - either way it's fixable), and I've browsed a lot on Note II with full brightness on (websites typically have white background) and there were no throttling issues or overheating, unlike reported by some S4 users (which should hopefully be fixable) for me. And that's even without the power saving blue tint (It has some sort of greenish tint, which I got rid with Perseus). And what makes you think that lower pixel density is what causes overheating anyways?
And the lag is entirely touchwiz, not hardware (unless you're somehow suggesting a quad core device with 2gb RAM would lag in widget drawer) - though for me lag was not that apparent (solved entirely with Nova+custom ROM) - many people with S4 has that too, but apparently fixed with firmware upgrade.
Anywho, whatever suits you mate S4 is a great phone nevertheless.

Competition from Tegra Note

I have and use my Note 8 for work when I don't want to carry my Win 8 tablet, but this news of the Tegra Note for ~$200 is intriguing - especially with the performance the Tegra 4 will bring at that price. And stylus support? Wow! I'll have to wait and see what reviews will look like.

http://blogs.nvidia.com/blog/2013/11/12/tegra-note-pre-order/
http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/evga-tegra-note-7/4505-3126_7-35831314.html
Honestly I prefer the side-by-side multiwindow that a rooted Touchwiz gives you, though, as that's pretty useful to me when I do use it for work (paired w/ the 2GB of RAM on the Note 8, to the 1GB on this device gives it some edge in the multitasking front as well).
Who knows, though? Due to Nvidia releasing this as a reference model, maybe some manufacturer will license it and sell w/ 2GB and someone figures out how to add the multi-window to it.
On a performance comparison, the Tegra 4 DESTROYS all the other android tablets in this price range, though. Also the footprint is smaller so it would actually fit better in some of my jacket pockets where the Note 8 wouldn't. Also - front mounted speakers!
Tegra note uses a passive stylus, Note 8 uses an active one. All of the features that make the Note 8 unique are not available to the Tegra note. It is no more competition to the Note than a Corolla is to a porsche, despite both being cars.
tegra note
I pre-ordered an evga tegra note for my wife. Not sure when newegg is shipping- they show it out of stock already.
I don't think it is competition for the note 8, I know it is. My wife wanted a note taking tablet and I got the tegra instead of the note 8, which I use. Good pen input is the only reason to get a note 8, imo. If the tegra has decent pen input it will certainly give the note 8 a run for it's money.

By passive stylus do you mean capacitive? I know the Note series and Windows Surface use similar technology found in Wacom tablets, utilizing a digitizer. There doesn't seem to be much competition on the Android side for the Note tablets.

The only reason I bought the Note 8 was for the stylus and thr ability to project it to a big screen(MHL).
I didn't need the quad core processor and 2 gb ram. The work is not that demanding. The microHDMI on the tegra is much better than the MHL.
The Tegra Note seems like an ideal tablet, even 1 GB ram is ok, but I am concerned that the 7.0 inch size could feel a bit cramped.
I expect the Xolo Tegra note to launch in India for about 15K

I think it's great to have another tablet with a stylus, especially at that price point. The specs aren't as high as the Note 8, but I don't think folks will feel that as much as they feel the difference in price. The most important point of distinction is 7 vs 8. The 30% difference in viewing area really matters. Steve Jobs had it right when he said a 7 inch screen compromised a tablet's functionality.
Here's a mathematical comparison:

Basically, yes. Just a better one than those $10 ones on Amazon. Just a slightly better version of your finger.

The OP implied that the new Tegra tablet is competition for the Note. That's not the case based on the different styli alone. Anyone who want to write or create with a stylus needs a Wacom one. The iPad can utilize a stylus as well, but it's not the same.
But have you guys seen the last video from Nvidia? Shows a lag free writting and painting with Tegra Note and his stylus, with Galaxy Note we have a lot of lantency. I make beautiful landscapes with my galaxy note, in the start is very good, but it increase the lag as i paint the landscape.
The Note 8.0 is far superior despite anything Anandtech claims. I have no lag with my stylus, and neither have other online reviews.
Plus every 7 inch tablet is crap compared to an 8 inch.

After watching the Nvidia made video demo of it on youtube, the guy tries to act like the tablet apps are Nvidia apps, but they are not. He even demos that "Write" app, which to me looks like his stylus lags when he writes. There is no way its better than the pen on the Samsung Note tablets.
There is also no way a nub tip like that will feel like a pen when writing. But this is just my opinion.

the lag may be due to settings. you can set the pen/stylus lag, (lag is a lot less than compared to Samsung). not sure about note taking, but the TegraN7 is decent in this area. the drawing app seems much better.
i do feel that the stylus for general touch screen use on the TegraN7 is much more responsive than any Samsung i've tried.
Does anyone here have hands on experience with both devices? If Tegra note can provide decent stylus based writing and drawing support (even with capacitative styluses) it's going to be a big deal for student population looking for note-taking and sketching aid...
I don't think the Tegra Note will be any competition.... However... I would like to side load some of those apps onto my Samsung. Any idea where we might find a system dump or pulled apks?

I was looking for something else when I stumbled across this thread so I thought I'd weigh in. I've had an Advent Tegra Note for a day or so now.... Firstly, it's very fast. It makes my Note 2 feel a bit anaemic. However, the screen is poor. I don't mind the resolution but the back light is uneven and colours are very bland. Whites look kind of creamy yellow like an AMOLED panel, but it lacks the punchy colours to make up for that so it just looks bland. My partner's Tab 3 8.0 has a far superior screen in comparison, even though the DPI is lower. This is also my first vanilla android device and I have to say I think it sucks. I think I'd rather have Samsung or HTC's bloatware on balance. The stylus is very responsive, more so than on my Note 2, but of course you just don't have the apps and system wide integration on board out of the box to fully take advantage of it.
Did I mention how fast it is? That really does make up for it so far. It's like a battered old car painted in grey primer that has a v12 engine hidden under the hood. And it's cheap!
I would go with galaxy note 8.0

I would go with galaxy note 8.0 because there are a lot more features it comes with. Also the screen colors do look better and I think it is plenty sharp enough for it size as in resolution so thing will still look good. The tablet is still really fast and should be smooth in hardcore gaming. Also if you really wanted stock android for the launcher (home screen and app drawer) you can just download a custom launcher like apex launcher or nova launcher to customize so it looks just like stock android. which is what I do. And coming from stock android , it gets a little boring after a while so that is why I also use launchers to make different themes.
I've had my Note 8 for awhile now, and like i said in my first post, i think it's great. It is getting to be an older model now and if i was looking to buy one, that factor would lower it on my list considering how fast Samsung abandons its models for upgrades. With ART coming soon to replace Dalvik and the potential performance gains that come with that, i'd want to invest in a device that has a good chance of getting it. One thing i don't trust Samsung for is keeping older devices current with Android versions.

NVIDIA Tegra Note 7 is the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0. This tablet is significantly more expensive thanks to the included active stylus technology. A 16GB version of this tablet will run $359 or so.

I have both. The tegra 7 will be a xmas gift, but I've been doing heavy testing, including playing games on it that note 8 can't even play. Really hate to say it but the tegra note 7 is better in every way except the stylus stylus interface for writing. For art applications they nearly equal. Writing is not that great on the 8, though, so the 8 been a big waste of money for what was a business investment for me. I have had other issues with the 8. I also have s S4, and the Samsung gimmicks you mentioned are not usable in my experience. I am unhappy about the fact that the Tegra Note is superior, but I will still relinquish it Xmas morning to its intended recipient. Again, due to several issues with the Note 8, I cannot even use it for its intended use a business tool.

Please share your specific observations particularly with how you think the Tegra Note is better than the Note 8 in writing and almost equal in art or drawing as there are some here who automatically thought otherwise without even trying it out. Seems they are quick to condemn it as if they are threatened by this cheaper yet more powerful competition.
The thing I'm curious about is that difference in RAM. i know as I'm painting with the Note8, and there are more and more strokes on the picture as the piece progresses, it does start to lag and slow down. The Tegra Note is faster, yet has half of the RAM, so maybe it's still susceptible to this issue or worse?

Which one is better?
-Featurewise.. As well as in my opinion.. the Galaxy Note is way better compared to the Tegra note
Why?
- 1280*800 HD display (vs 1024*768 non-HD display)
- 1.6Ghz Qaud core processor (vs 1Ghz Dual core processor)
- 2Gb RAM (vs 512MB RAM)
- microSD slot
What the tablet can do?
Well it can do most basic purpose you require a bulky laptop for. I.e Internet browsing, facebook, twitter, watching movies, youtube, playing games, blogs, reading books, taking notes, chat, voice call, video call etc.

I think the specs you cite are not for the $200 evga tegra note 7, which has
-microsd
-1 gig ram
- micro sd
- 1200 x 800 ips
-1.8 ghz tegra4 quad
there aren't custom roms yet, but it's rootable and the bootloader can be unlocked. it shares a lot with the nvidia shield, enough that root tools and other work is greatly aided.
I'm using an hp slate 8 just now - same soc, 8 inch, 1600 x 1200 display, no stylus included.
I had it rooted a few hours out of the box and and bootloader unlocked within a day.
It is a benchmark beast, 16k quadrant, 3500 or so on geekbench 2
I'm very curious to get my hands on the nvidia stylus and apps. The aspect ratio is great for me. it is heavy - about a pound - and has a battery about 25% larger than than the note. Time will tell how much that really means.
No ir blaster and no smart wake and a very hard to find/press power button are annoying. I wish it had cap buttons on the bezel, plenty of room for them.
Color accuracy is better on the Samsung - I've been struck by that in comparison to every other tab, using photos I took myself.
Speakers are better on the note - louder and/or better ported.
The hdmi out is going to be very helpful on the hp.

who has a tab S?

And how does it compare with the note 10.1 2014 edition?

My wife has the Tab S. It's an excellent tablet, very comparable (or better) than than the Note 10.1 2014 in terms of most of the specs and (real world) performance. I say "real world" because I do realize that the Tab S is a significant upgrade in some of the specs, but in my real world use of both tablets I haven't really noticed the Tab S being mindblowingly superior to the Note 10.1 2014.
It is a perfect tablet for my wife, but I still need/want the S-pen and root, so the Note 10.1 2014 is the better tablet for me. My wife also got the Tab 4 10.1 to use an eReader while exercising (didn't want to trash her Tab S at the gym). The Tab 4 is a nice tablet, too, but I put the Note 10.1 2014 and Tab S as fairly equal, but the Tab 4 is several notches below both of those overall.

I have both actually but gave the Note to my girlfriend and kept the Tab S.
I've always liked Samsung Amoled screens so that was the main reason I switched.
The note part wasn't as important in my decision when I intially purchased and I rarely used it.

I noticed a difference. Again, not mindblowing, but there is a difference. The processor in the Tab S is an octacore processor versus a quadcore, so they're not the same processor. The Tab S is also thinner, lighter, and comes with a lot more new TouchWiz bells & whistles that the Note 10.1 2014 does not have even after the Kitkat update. The Amoled screen is being reviewed as arguably the best tablet screen available. And considering what I paid for my Note 10.1 2014 right after it was released, $500 is a steal for a tablet that's actually slightly better.
All that being said, if you're like me, then you bought the Note 10.1 2014 for a reason -- particularly the Note features. Otherwise I would most definitely own the Tab S.
Yeah the tab S is the later model to the note 10.1 2014 edition.
I was just thinking of purchasing it too, mainly cause I see it advertised
But I've rooted my device and you guys say that the tab S cant be rooted?
Cause it hasn't been done yet?

The processor in the Tab S is an octacore processor versus a quadcore, so they're not the same processor.

The S' use S-800/Adreno 330 and Exynos 5420/Mali T604 just like all of Samsung's high-end tablets (Note 10.1-14, Pro's). The only difference being earlier 10+" LTE tablets all got S-800 while with the majority of S' are Exynos/LTE. The U.S. carrier S' still use S-800 and there may be other isolated examples too.
The Tab S is also thinner, lighter

And bigger.
And comes with a lot more new TouchWiz bells & whistles that the Note 10.1 2014 does not have even after the Kitkat update.

M-UX is the only thing fundamentally different. Everything else works exactly the same but has a fresher interface, darker interface to help AMOLED battery life, or both. There are dozens of pages in the S forums complaining about lag. Same thing on the Pro forums. 4.4 on the N10.1-14 is pretty much lag free; especially compared to the 4.3 launch s/w. So M-UX is one "bell and whistle" I'm glad we were able to avoid.
The Amoled screen is being reviewed as arguably the best tablet screen available.

Note's in general are pitched at productivity and creation users. That audience would be miserable with an AMOLED display. It's beautiful for video where it's quite battery efficient but on light colors, like most productivity and creation apps are, people would be crying. The S' battery life on whites would absolutely kill me because that's where I spend the majority of my time.
I have been using the Note 10.1 2014 at work and really like it. Just got a Tab S to play with and it's pretty nice, thought I would hate the bronze color but looks very sophisticated. The Tab S feels much snappier than the Note 10.1 for some reason even though they are both running 4.4.2. I also really like Magazine UX, wish it would come to the Note but being this late in the game seems doubtful. The screen on the Tab S is also BEAUTIFUL, and the tablet does feel lighter. I do like the factory book cover case for the Note better than the one for the Tab S. Honestly I'm torn, I like the Pen on the Note but the snappier feel and Magazine UX has me wanting to switch. I will see how battery life compares before I decide.
Is magazine UX that good? Its interface layout is similar to windows 8 right?
I really like simplicity when its used in note 3 (NOVA). But I can see how that magazine UX interface might work with the tablets
.p.s love the note pro keyboard on my 10.1 2014 EDITION:good:

M-UX was originally supposed to be a complete UI for Samsung's tablets. There were widgets for all of Samsung's apps and most major apps. There was the ability to add a short-cut as a small tile for every app on the device. So you could literally have all your home screens configured using M-UX and in addition to being cleaner and more modern looking it allowed better use of display real estate because widgets were edge-to-edge. None of that happened. Most likely because Google had a stroke. So M-UX ended up being a mandatory home page, has limited widgets for Samsung's apps, and no way to add any type of app short-cuts. And some of the traditional widgets we have are now "M-UX only" which sucks if you like to group your apps and widgets in to like-categories on separate home pages. There's no question that M-UX slows down tablets that use it.
Here's just one of the many threads in the S forum talking about lag. There are a bunch of threads and hundreds of posts. The Pro's have M-UX and there are similar posts. In both forums people coming from a N10.1-14 (on 4.4) complain about the lag on the Pro's and S' in comparison.

I'm not a lag freak so would probably get a Tab S if I were a consumption user. The only real benefit of the S over the N10.1-14 is its AMOLED display. It's got a .5" larger display but its dimensions go up proportionately. It's actually got a lower PPI than the N10.1-14 so for reading and browsing in addition to the N10.1-14 having better battery life its got better PPI too. The LCD display on the N10.1-14 is great with few shortcomings and gets far better battery life on whites than the S'. So how big a deal better contrast on dark colors is to you determines how much better an S would be over a N10.1-14. I'm a huge S Pen and productivity user so the S' really aren't an option for me anyway so I have no ax to grind.

I think they are referring to TowelRoot, which can root certain Snapdragon devices WITHOUT tripping the Knox warranty e-fuse.

The only example I'm talking about is my wife's SM-T800 Galaxy Tab S 10.5, which the official Samsung specs specifically state:
CPU
PROCESSOR SPEED, TYPE
Exynos™ 5 Octa (1.9Ghz Quadcore + 1.3 Ghz Quadcore)

My SM-P600 Note 10.1 2014 does not have this processor.

I have spent a lot of time on both devices (physically in-hand), and the interface as a whole, as well as the entire feature set, are significantly different, even the basic "Android" settings menus are organized rather different. M-UX is just one feature in that different interface.
All one has to do is go back to the beginnings of this particular forum, as well as read the Note 10.1 2014 reviews to see all the complaints about lag. At one time that was all that was being discussed on this forum. Dozens of people were returning their devices solely because of lag.
For what it's worth, I never experienced lag on my Note 10.1 2014 or the Tab S.

I'm not miserable with the Tab S's display, and I am predominately a Note 10.1 2014 user (the Tab S is my wife's tablet). She solely uses her Tab S as an eReader and web browser, and her battery lasts longer than my Note 10.1 2014 when used for the same purposes/time.
Again, I really like the note features on my Note 10.1 2014, which is why I still own/use it instead of a Tab S, but in just about every other way, the Tab S is the superior tablet. Not lightyears superior, but still superior.

Yes, it does. The N10.1-14, Pro's, and S' all use either Exynos 5420 or a Snapdragon S-800. No Wi-Fi only version of any of them except for the Pro 8.4 ever used anything but Exynos 5420. The SGS5's "eight core chip" is Exynos 5422 which is a modified version of 5420 with HMP enabled. The "eight core chip" in the Note 4 is 5433 which is even newer. So your SM-P600 Wi-Fi N10.1-14 has the same SoC as every Wi-Fi only Tab S. The SM-P601 (3G) uses the same chip. The SM-P605 (LTE) uses S-800. The only change between the Tab S and earlier tabs is that all of the earlier LTE tablets had S-800 where the majority of LTE S' moved to Exynos 5420. That said, considering they all use identical h/w, run 4.4.2, and have similar Samsung s/w the performance differences people claim really don't make a lot of sense. If anything I tend to believe that people complaining about the Pro's and S' being slower because of M-UX is true because of the additional resources it consumes.
I have the note 10.1. I considered the tab s but I can't live without the ESPN especially now that I found the app MyScript stylus beta

Dang auto correct, s-pen i meant
ESPN haha .... But I agree ... I have gotton use to the S-pen aswell, would be bizziare having a tablet without it it I reckon :/

I stand corrected, but I do wish to point out (and know for a fact) that Samsung "corrected" its specs on the Note 10.1 2014, because when it was first released and I was considering buying it, the CPU was listed only as a 1.9 ghz quadcore -- not an Octa and there was no mention of the 1.3ghz quadcore combination in the specs. I came to the Note 10.1 2014 from the dualcore Acer A500, so I found the quadcore an acceptable upgrade. An Octa would've blown my mind.

No worries. I wasn't trying to prove you wrong but since the topic is a direct comparison against the Tab S I thought the similarities between the two should be known. All Samsung's high-end tablets since the N10.1-14 was released last year are architecturally the same. And with the exception of the N10.1-14 not getting M-UX run near identical s/w too. They also push the exact same number of pixels; the PPI goes up and down depending on physical display size.
The S' really should have at least Exynos 5422 and S-801 or, even better, Exynos 5433 and S-805. I'm guessing Samsung re-used the existing high-end tablet architecture to save on development and build costs. The N10.1-14 is due for a refresh. It'll be interesting to see what direction Samsung goes h/w wise. They've been testing a 10" 4K LCD tablet display and that would need Exynos 5433/S-805. I doubt the next Note will be AMOLED because it's awful on light colors battery wise and Note's are all about productivity and creation where the apps tend to be light colored.
