I am the least tech savvy person you will ever meet so let me apologize in advance. I have a Sprint Galaxy s4 with no carrier. I bought it new off ebay in December of 2013. I took my phone into a carrier to try and get service (Cricket and TMobile both) and was told that it shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately, when they put their sim card in the sim card reader kept saying no sim card. The salesperson advised me that my phone was locked by sprint and I would need to buy a new phone from them or have it unlocked. I went in search for someone that could unlock my phone and was told that Sprint has a flash rom and if you try and unlock it that it "kills" your phone and its junk. To avoid not being able to use the phone at all I decided against unlocking it. Then two days ago my phone started giving me an error message and no I am not sure what that message was because since then I have done a factory reset, but when I did the backup of my phone with mobilego it said I had autorun applications and needed to root my phone. I have no idea why I need to root my phone. After doing the factory reset though my phone is working but when I tried to make a call (I use Skype with wifi for this) the person on the other end couldn't hear me...so its obviously not working correctly. I hooked my phone up to my computer and did a download of the device driver on Samsung.com and then made a call and it worked. Unfortunately, mobilego is still telling me that I need to root my phone. Help! what does all this tech jumbo mean? I would really like to unlock the phone so that I could get a sim card from another carrier and actually have phone service but I am unsure how to do all of this...any of this really. Just consider this "Samsung for Dummies" myself being the dummy. I am unsure what information you need from me to assist so I will give you all of the information under my about device tab:
software version: L720VPUFNG2
HARDWARE VERSION: L720.08
STATUS: NETWORK SAMSUNG
MOBILE NETWORK TYPE: LTE
SERVICE STATE: IN SERVICE
MOBILE NETWORK STATE: DISCONNECTED
PRL VERSION: 55015
DEVICE STATUS: OFFICIAL
MODEL NUMBER: SPH-L720
ANDROID VERSION: 4.4.2
BASEBAND VERSION: L720VPUFNG2
KERNEL VERSION: 3.4.0-2162929
BUILD NUMBER: KOT49H.L720VPUFNG2
SE FOR ANDROID STATUS: ENFORCING SEPF_SPH-L720_4.4.2_0018
SECURE BOOT STATUS: TYPE: SAMSUNG
SECURITY SOFTWARE VERSION: MDF V1.0 RELEASE 2
SO MY QUESTION IS- Do I need to root this phone? What would be the reason to root the phone (especially for a technology challenged girl such as myself)? Can this phone be unlocked to take to another carrier to use their SIM card without it being rendered useless by messing up the flash rom? If so, where do I go to get this unlocked? Is it something I could do myself or would you recommend having someone do it for me? As for now the phone does seem to be in working order, no error messages since the factory reset, but like I said mobilego is pissing me off because it won't stop with the damn "needs to be rooted" message. Any advice and all advice is welcome. Thank you soooo much!!!

Thats a ATT version of tje DVP. It should work right out of the box. At least the phone should have service, maybe some of the mms setting you may have to tweak later. Check if the phone is not in airplane mode and that everything is "ON".
Thanks for the help, I ended up having to call ATT and using the new sim that came with the phone, but its working now I love this phone and am sure I will have more questions, but I'm trying to read through everything else that everyone has written before I make someone angry by asking something that has been asked a million times already, lol
HI there, I just recently unlocked my Rogers phone and now its online Virgin Mobile. I put in the code and it gave me an error so I looked it up and it had to do with the firmware not accepting the code or something like that. I then decided to use the stock Rogers Firmware, the installation went smoothly then when I actually had it running I couldn't connect to the WiFi (it would say turning on but it wont.), Virgin Mobile network won't show I always have to go to settings and search for it and when I do get on the network and put my phone on lock I would get no service until I search for the network again. Also, when ever I make phone calls the screen turns black and nothing happens. My home phone would ring but nothing from my cell. So I decided to install Google Play Rom and it's the same thing.
Can someone please help!
Phone Information:
Model GT-I9505G
Android Version: 4.4.2
Kernal: 3.4.0-g22842f5
Build Number: KOT49H
This phone used to be on the Bluegrass Cellular network, I have contacted them and AT&T with no help. I have rooted the phone using Towel Root and used Advanced Signal Status to change my radio to LTE/GSM auto, and can also now change the radio options within the phone. When I select to register on the AT&T network, it sits for about 3 minutes, and says "Unable to register" the IMEI is clean, I'm assuming I need a custom firmware or something. At this point, I am willing to pay someone to help me fix this, it has caused me so much trouble. Thanks!
Someone had suggested I use This ROM.
Problem is, I need custom recovery, and I can't find one for jfltelra.
TWRP shows all the jflte's but mine (jfltelra)
Phone Info
Galaxy S4 SCH-I545L jfltelra
Android version 4.4.2
Baseband Version: I545LWWUFNK1
Build Number: KOT49H.I545LWWUFNK1
Use twrp for jflteusc works great.
i was using this phone for like 3 years
just recently it started doing this where it would show no service and a quick reboot would fix the problem
now as of friday the day after thanksgiving the phone shows null everything no matter how many times i reboot and ive put new simcards in to check if that was the problem and it wasnt the simcard
i doubt the efs files are corrupted because i only flash stock OTA updates through odin no custom ROMS and ive taken very good care of this phone and follow tutorials to the "T" when i do anything of that sort
but anyways ill list everything that is null/unknown so you have a better idea of what the problem might be and in advanced id like to thank you for any help you may give me
i just want to give this phone to my mom to use.. its crazy right when im done paying it off that it stops working its basically an ipod now hopefully you can help me fix that

Hi guys
I recently purchased an S4 from an on-line professional seller, the guy apparently owns a physical store but sells some phones on-line
when the phone arrived, I turned it on without the SIM, insert my home's wi-fi connection password, and the phone started to update both apps, and the OS to lollipop
I installed the backup I previously got from my old s3 mini, installed all my apps from playstore, and once I installed whatsapp, I turned the phone off, and than on again, this with my SIM since whatsapp has to confirm my number
The phone accepted my PIN code, whatsapp accepted my number and restored it's backup, but the phone also asked for this SIM network unlock pin
I told the guy what's happening, he told me he would send me a new phone, but I suspect this can go wrong
If that's the case, can anyone here tell me how can I overcome this SIM network unlock pin issue ?
thanks in advance
Regards
Antonio
If the phone were unlocked for use on any carrier, you would never see the SIM unlock pin request screen. Since you are seeing that screen, the phone is not unlocked.
To resolve this, root your phone and downgrade the phone's modem to an Android 4.2.2 version. Find a copy of RegionLock Away on XDA or through Google, copy it to your S4 and install it. Run it. Afterward, upgrade the modem to a more current version, and enjoy.
That's roughly what I had to do when the SIM unlock screen popped up on me.
Which s4 do you have? If it is the i337, region lock away may not work as you may not be able to downgrade the modem.
