Sm n900 ota question - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay.. i know that after rooting, I can not use the OTA update. It shows the device status as modified/unofficial.
But i found an xpose module which allows to fake the official status, and the OTA update proceeds.
If I download it and process with it, what will happen?
Anyways i am on factory kernel, firmware, just rooted with CF AUTO ROOT and have xposed modules.

It still downloads, but will fail to apply the update. At least on my device.
Just give it a try. It will download an update and reboot to recovery mode to install.
If you are lucky it will work.
If not, you can download full stock firmware for your device, and flash it via Odin software (No data will be lost).

Hi Ninomaxx,
The Knox 0x1 that you see doesn't lock or block you from doing anything. It's only there to tell the carrier/manufacturer that you have modified your software, thus losing your warranty. Other than that, it doesn't do anything else. To root your device, I suggest you search the forums, you'll find a guide, I'm sure.
EDIT : I found one post for you (but you can find other posts too) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423
EDIT2 : And another one : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2540853
One more question, can I update OTA after I root my device. And any change in my bootloader? Such as change from "Official" to "Custom" ????
Thanks,

Bootloader is "upgraded" when you flash stock 4.4 over 4.3.
And your warranty doesnt necessarily get voided because, if youre in the EU, statutory law dictates that service centres have to prove that the malfunction was directly caused by us changing or modifying system software. This is statutory law in the EU only. See here https://fsfe.org/freesoftware/legal/flashingdevices.en.html

If the rom youre on supports OTA then yes. official samsung updates wont work as they detect the system status.

That's my considering. My System Status = Official. I am worrying about after i root my device, the system status change to "Custom" ==> my device cannot update OTA anymore.
So The "System status" change to Custom after I root my device????? :good:

Correct. Then you wont receive official samsung updates. However, if you switch roms then devs will update their base as and when a new base becomes available. So in heinsight you're not really missing out on anything because you're getting the update plus more so I guess in this case (if you root) you get more for your money

Try this :
1. Odin back to original stock (if you're already on stock, ignore this step)
2. Odin to root your device (TowelRoot or Root de la Vega)
3. Install Xposed Framework + Wanam Xposed, then in "Security hack" choose "Fake system status" (this will change your OS to "Official")
4. Reboot twice, Enable SuperSu Pro, check the Survival Mode option
5. Install the OTA update.
6. Disable Survival Mode in SuperSu Pro.
This should get you OTA updates AND root. Enjoy
Let me know how it went.

[Q] Lost root after update

Just got my S5 and used towelroot as soon as I got it, went perfectly.
Now I updated some Samsung OTA updates and lost root. To make things worse, towelroot now says device not supported.
How can I get root back?

This has been asked and answered (a lot of times) before. So almost any forum search would have answered your questions.
Updates usually break root. So that is expected behaviour. If you value root, you should probably be blocking the OTA updater app. Ironically enough, the update your chose also blocks the Towel root exploit. You can use Odin to reinstall a pre June 3rd build of the correct stock firmware which remains amenable to Towel root.

Or just flash the updated rom next time with Mobile Odin Pro and keep root Most S5`s are supported bij MOP.

Could I just do a factory reset and not update the firmware to keep root? Would that work?

No. And I don't see a rationale for thinking that might be viable. A factory data reset wipes the /data partition i.e. user settings /apps. Whereas root is configured in the system files.

I have the update available but I didn't flash yet because I want to keep root.
Is an unlocked bootloader required to use Mobil Odin Pro to flash the Latest update?
I have a VZW SM-G900V, Rooted, Stock OS, Locked Bootloader and no Custom Recovery installed.
Update Edit:
Please disregard this question: Mobil Odin Pro does not support the SM-G900V yet.
Ep://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1347899[/url]
Also it should be noted that Mobil Odin Pro will not launch at all if the device is running with ART Runtime System enabled. It will only force crash with every attempt. It will launch with DALVIK Runtime System enabled however it will only post a message of incompatibility with only the option of creating a system dump file for the developer!

say yes to removal of knox and also try apps like ota root keeper
sometimes after enabling survuval mode in super su results in ota failure cos sometimes it happens that you remove some system apps after rooting { which i am sure you also have done } and the update consist of files for those uninstalled apps then you get such error
I have installed ota root keeper now.
in status it shows root acces.
In superSU i have unticked ota survival.
Tryed again to install update from ota but still have error.??

Why don`t you just flash the new updated rom with Mobile Odin Pro and enable Everroot and the other 2 options and keep root and forget about these OTA`s. Roms are available at Sammobile.com/firmwares. Just wipe or rename the OTA policy and notifications.

I have Mobile Odin.. But it says that my device is not compatible or something...
If i just make the update from KIES.. Can I then get rooted again by CF-Root ? And if I do CF-Root.. Will I still be able to get updates from OTA or KIES =?

What S5 model do you have mate that MOP is not compatible? If i we`re you i`d forget about OTA`s anyway and just flash the updated rom with (Mobile) Odin. OTA`s suck imo.
To disable OTA`s and notification go to /system/app/FWUpgrade.apk (+odex file) and delete it and in /system/priv-app/FotaClient.apk(+ odex file) and delete it.
Yes, you can use CF Auto Root to root again.

I uninstalled Kies myself, if you accept the OTA it will probably not be installed because you are rooted. I would download the new rom from Sammobile and flash it wirh Odin. Have you tried clearing the data of Mobile Odin Pro because the G900F IS compatible with MOP.
OTA does not work if you are rooted. uninstall root to make OTA work

update problem after update G900FXXU1ANG8

Hello,
i use a G900F and had root with towelroot.
i did an update on my Phone today to G900FXXU1ANG8. the installation went perfect.
but after the update i tried a new search for a software update and now i got the notification:
the operating system on your device has been modified in an unauthorized way. try downloading software updates using samsung kies on your pc or visit a customer service center.
I also use the app Phone info and when i check my knox counter it says 0X0 so normally this isnt triggerd.
when i connect to kies it just says my Phone has the latest software?

[Q] unroot s5 sm-g900f without wiping data

I have a samsung galaxy s5 sm-g900f model rooted with cf auto root and it has a software update available so I want to unroot to recieve that ota update without wiping data
All the threads I could find suggest to install a firmware pda file which as I know wipes data
Any solution?
Thanks in advance
Flash the new ROM with ODIN, the only thing you'll lose is root, then you can use CF Auto Root again
That's how I update
samobile dot com will have the new ROM, or check the link in my sig for MEGA links, BOE5 is latest

What is your Knox status? Cf auto root trips Knox flag and it should mean you won't be able to receive ota notifications..

Yup, with Knox tripped you can no longer update via kies or ota.
