Is it just me or does the stock camera app seem to take awhile for the shutter to fire? I've tried the google camera and it snaps much more quickly. Which camera apps are you all finding to work the best with your note 4? Maybe I am doing something wrong...

Hey all,
I've had my N4 for a week now and a couple of days ago I gave the camera a go. I have to say that I'm not impressed at all. Most all pics came out grainy. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm thinking of returning it. Now I don't use the camera a whole lot, but sometimes when a picture presents its self and I don't have my DSLR the cell camera is what I have. I would like the pics to look descent. I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S and with a 5MP camera and no LED flash it takes better pics than the N4. Is it the stock JB software for the camera and using another camera app would fix it?
Thanks,
Chevy

there will be grain in low-light but it's not too bad to my eyes.
if it bothers you, you could use flash; try another camera app, like camera zoom fx, that lets you control iso; or clean up the grain in post with noise-ninja or similar.
i never expect too much from phone cameras but they can produce decent results if you work within their limitations.
EDIT: i downloaded camera zoom fx yesterday and would highly recommend it over the stock camera app.
Greetings!
Before I think about opening and exposing the guts of my beloved Note 3 I had a question. The problem I'm having as of late is with my autofocus. When I open up the camera app I feel the camera vibrate as its focusing. Sometimes it will focus in on what I'm looking at, sometimes it doesn't.The autofocus will vibrate for long periods of time sometimes with no luck and will just be blurry. I'm thinking I could just replace the camera but what I need to find out is if it's the camera or does something else control the autofocus? I've also tried another camera app camera fv-5 and the problem with the autofocus is still present. Many Thanks
I had a similar problem. My camera looked like crappie blurry fuzzy, not like before 4.4.2 so I tolerated it until battery life was a disaster then I found xda and rooted and instslled jasmine rom and that fixed my camera and battery. Now the camera is s5 camera big difference in quality battery is great as well. I double checked my camera by installing a different rom and wow it looked so bad I could not see anything but blur so I went back to jasmine the newest version.

Hello,
I've installed the Lenovo Camera.apk and it works great.
With the samsung camera, maybe try to turn on the flash, It did resolve my issue with the autofocus.
Hi guys,
I have just got an GT-i9506 and I'm loving the size, speed and how smooth everything feels, compared to the S3 I had previously.
BUT I think I am having an issue with the camera.
I can take great photos, but the focus when close up or macro is horrible.
On my S3 if I got a little too close, I would hold the phone further back, focus on my subject, move a bit closer and focus again and so on until I was as close as I wanted to be and I was able to take the shot.
I can't seem to get this technique to work on this phone.
I find, even taking shots from a far (which the camera focuses fine with), when I zoom in after the photo is taken, the quality is horrible.
For once, heavily sharpening my images in post-production in apps like VSCO is actually helping!
Is anyone else seeing a drop in camera quality compared to older devices like the S3?
Any recommended settings in the stock camera, flashable fixes or apps people would recommend over the stock camera for this device?
Thanks
The touch to take a photo is frustrating as hell when i'm used to tap-to-focus on targets rather than it immediately take a pic.
I've tried fiddling around but still no joy. Anyone know of a secret-squirrel setting someplace to turn that crap off?

I had the same problem with my moto g. An easy fix is to get the google camera app, which is very similar to the stock camera app, but it has tap to focus.

But no slomo or 4k, I hope with the release of the 6p they will add those features to the google camera app, I hate switching between camera apps.

I guess you could just use the stock app when you need to film slow-mo or 4K? Alternatively, you could look around for other camera apps on the forums or on the play store; I found one called open camera, not the nicest looking interface but looks pretty functional...
Edit: I've heard that the moto x style doesn't support the camera api which is a bit of a bummer...
I've used Open Camera previously, may have to give it a go. Google Camera is ok but it is a bit Basic?
I wonder if the Oppo camera app will work >.>
I think many people do not know that you can use the volume up/down buttons to snap a photo. Then it feels very much like a traditional point and shoot camera when you hold it. I literally just found this out today. I really wish Moto included that tidbit in their initial tutorial animations.

I installed this Xposed module on the stock rom and changed almost all the options in it and also installed Camera 360 and Camera FV 5 Pro (I changed the extension from .jpeg to .png in FV5).
Now I'm not sure if this app it's really better or is just a impression because I can't see any difference between the stock image quality (and Google Camera) and the Camera FV5, I can see just the difference in the image size.
Attached sample images - https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B9AGQuLtWUjVUS1lbkF1MTh5MlE&usp=sharing
Camera 360 ≈ 3,6 - 3,8MB
Camera FV5 ≈ 20 - 22MB
Google Camera ≈ 5,0 - 6,0MB
Stock Camera ≈ 5,5 - 6,0MB
Obs.: HDR turned ON in all cameras

.
So simple, i installed Camera FV-5 and i can feel the thing with faster time capturing a shoot and autofocus time is much better.
Fix the app camera SONY.

Camera FV-5 didn't work for me. The shutter lag was far worse and the autofocus sometimes hangs and I cannot even take an image. ProCapture isn't much better either.
I'm on the latest software version as well.
I use stock app on manual mode with 8 megapixels and be sure to half-press the shutter button to let it focus. The delay is not as bad but you can still see it skips a frame from the one when you press the shutter. This is unacceptable for a flagship device.

I have been testing the app this last day and it feels so much better than app camera stock one. Thanks for the tip about the manual mode, i ll check it. But really Sony needs to fix the app, its just software fault
I personally like the stock Z5 camera app but I recommend you give Snap Camera a try if you hate the stock camera app.
I used to own the LG Optimus F3Q with most crappy camera you could find on a phone release in 2014.
But using Snap Camera on that phone made night and day difference. Some pics were even decent enough to be used as background wallpaper.
I like that app so much that I bought the full version.
