Hi
Picked up an S5 after years of iPhones, Which i bought from the three store in the UK.
After installing a few apps i started to get error 24 installing netflix. I didnt fancy doing a factory reset so i routed my phone to use a root browser to remove the temp files which resolved my issue (but of course i still had to do a factory reset) However i didn't realise that android confirms if its official or not and then doesn't receive OTA updates.
I'm not much into messing with releases these days so i downloaded the stock UK firmware (NCE) from sammobile and it now says official after flashing it.
However i notice that there is an OTA update out today (NC2) which i'm not getting when i check for updates (the message says latest update installed).
Is this simply a case of the update not having rolled out to everyone yet or does the update checker use the serial number of my phone to check that it should be on the H3G UK firmware rather than the stock UK firmware? Kies also states the firmware is up to date.
Thanks for any advice

Rather than waiting for ota would I just be as well flashing the new stock uk firmware through Odin?
Hi everyone, how can I update from my currently build NBD90M to the last one NBD90X? (On Android 7 release in August I agreed to beta program and then deleted my registration)
Thankss
Wouldn't be in a hurry, my phone can only make emergency calls, nit sure if this is the reason it it happened after I updated the software.
You should've gotten an OTA, but you can also download the official OTA from here: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/ota
My connectivity issue has been resolved, Meteor blocked my phone as I made one or two "long duration calls" from Morocco to Ireland, after which I reverted back to a Meditel sim until I left Morocco, it took a week to resolve the issue online as I could only make emergency calls, what a shower of twats letting me in the lurch like that, I pay by direct debit monthly and have never defaulted with a payment, shower of muppets.
Download the OTA package referenced above.
The follow the pinned forum post on how to apply a full OTA package...
Then load the package you downloaded.
I was in the same boat as you and thats what I did... no lost data or anything.
I can't find the pinned forum sorry or not sure is the right one, can you post the link please?
I can also provide a data point. I enrolled in the beta program initially when Nougat was announced, so that I could get the stable version of 7.0 quicker before the OTA was released via my carrier (T-Mobile). Then after I got the software update notification for build NRD90U and installed it, I unenrolled from the beta program. But I didn't get any OTA for build NBD90X, because I guess it's still 7.0.
I wanted NBD90X though because that's one of the build numbers for 6P that's listed as working to get the Google Assistant on my phone (http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/guide-how-to-enable-google-assistant-t3477879). So I downloaded the OTA build NBD90X from the google developer website as mentioned above, and sideloaded it using ADB. It worked well for me and didn't wipe my user data or anything. Although I did lose data when I had to unlock the bootloader as part of getting the Google Assistant though .
Hi,
Recently, I used ODIN to return to Stock ROM. But, since then I am not getting OTA updates.
Once I used Smart Switch app to update software but I don't want to do it all the time.
Can someone please help? Thanks.
Tanay
Any help would be highly appreciated !!
Maybe just flash a firmware that receives OTAs constantly, like UK BTU.
Since you know how to use Odin. Flash the XEF firmware. It's the best with receiving monthly updates.
is there a way a phone can lose its ability to receive OTA updates.
Smart Switch shows new update, but not getting OTA.
Got the software update done from service center, but still no OTA when available.
Every time Smart Switch downloads around 2 GB of data which is very time consuming in India, I am not sure what is the best way to get my OTA updates back.
Someone please help.... Thanks.

something was changed in the kernal or you have applied a custom kernal. causing the phone to believe it has been modified
modified phones will not receive OTA updates you need to flash them manually.
What about the CSC? maybe you flashed wrong csc.. Or have multiple csc.

This could be possible.
I tried BTU beta ROM for Nougat and then reverted back.
But, current status shows official.
After manual update, Kernel version is changed to latest.
Please help, how can I correct my phone's settings. I have attached, my phone's software info page.

Currently you have the latest update for your phone.
but you can try : cleaning the cache.
if the problem persists, you may have to make a back up of your data and phone numbers and do a full factory reset, that should return your phone completely back to stock.

Thanks. But I tried clearing cache and factory reset already a few times, but that didn't help.
Also, there is another update available to my ROM, but not getting option over OTA. But, showing the update via Smart Switch.
Is there any way I can put correct Kernel or CSC to my phone? or, any other way to overcome my situation. Thanks.
I'm all stock and my android security patch is of 1 November 2016.. You're on the latest update.
A few things which I did recently might have caused my problem.
01) I was running at Stock ROM and getting OTA updates
02) I installed Nougat Beta BTU ROM
03) Registered myself to get OTA updates
04) But, didn't get OTA updates, returned to Stock ROM via Odin
05) I got updated to latest software by OTA updates
06) Again, I installed Nougat Beta BTU ROM, deregistered & registered again and got beta OTA updates
07) After a few days, returned back to Stock ROM
08) Since then, I am not getting OTA updates.
It seems, I am registered to get BTU OTA updates and lost my OTA update eligibility here (India)
Now, I will install Nougat Beta BTU ROM again and will deregister myself from there. Hope that way, I will get my OTA updates here in India.
I will keep you all updated. Thanks.

Everyone has done that so far. I am not aware of any alternate method.
So the second BTU Nougat update was released on 6th Feb. I flashed the first BTU Nougat at the start of the month using Odin (from Sammobile site, flashed AP and CSC files), cache reset, 2 factory data resets later, and now my CSC shows BTU in the recovery boot screen, yet even today (17th Feb) I'm still not getting the OTA update for the second Nougat.
Manual software update screen tells me I'm up to date!
"The latest updates have already been installed.
Current version: G935FXXU1DPLT/G935FOXA1DPLT/G935FXXU1PBJE"
Yet the latest version is: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/122404/G935FXXU1DQB3_G935FOXA1DQB1_BTU/
PDA G935FXXU1DQB3
CSC G935FOXA1DQB1
Anyone had similar issues? I know they're both still Android 7.0 but surely the later build should be detected for OTA updates? I will probably eventually give up and flash the latest, but the whole reason for the 2 factory resets at the start of the month was to make sure the BTU CSC applies so that I can get OTA updates from now on and not have to bother with flashing for every single update going forward... Don't particularly want to revert to the bloatware-filled branded version the phone came with... They're still 'testing' Nougat anyway, release date will be 'soon', and has been 'soon' for weeks now... Hence my BTU flash.

If you're registered for the BETA you will not receive any OTA updates other than those that are BETA updates. You would need to deregister.
I just bought an unlocked AT&T Galaxy S7 to use on another carrier. Because I'm not on AT&T, I don't get OTA updates. I sideloaded the QA6 update which brought the device up to Android 7.0. However, I noticed there are like 8 OTA updates that at&t pushed out. I would like to be able to get onto the latest update which was released a couple weeks back, but the idea of sideloading that many updates is discouraging. Are there some updates I can skip? Thank you.

You can Odin flash QE1 from this thread then the five ota updates to get to the latest firmware: https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s7/how-to/ota-update-ss-g930aucs4bqj2-to-u4bqk2-t3716713
