[VIDEO] Nexus 6 - Water Test (submerge and charge underwater) - Nexus 6 General

I don't recommend doing this. It's pretty stupid and could ruin a perfectly good phone. I'm just that brainless. Whatever happens, you're on your own.
I do go into this with some knowledge of the device. Dunked the Moto G when I found out that had a nano coating and hoped the Nexus 6 could at least perform to the same level as that much cheaper phone.
Afterwards, I did have some problems with the internal speakers. I'm not 100% sure if they were working like this before the test. As I note in my conversation with AT&T, alarms worked along with the boot sound.
Conversation with AT&T Support
AT&T Rep : Good Morning Keri! I can definitely assist you today regarding your device sounds not working besides for your alarm and boot sound. :]
Me: Thank you
Me: also the mic doesn't work... tried the "ok google" recorded a video and had it backup to Google... Played it on the computer and can hear sound there. Headphones work if plugged in.
AT&T Rep : Thank you for the information. The issue has been occurring since you go the device, correct/
Me: i didn't play with it much yesterday... i thought it was working fine, but the only thing i did between then and this morning was use the wireless charging
Me: factory reset it and it still doesn't work... if you try different alarm sounds you can preview them and everything seems normal, but it won't play any other sounds
Me: even when you go into settings to change the volumes... you only hear the preview when changing the alarm sound
AT&T Rep : I appreciate all of that information. I am checking on a demo device I have for any settings that may cause this. Did you download any new apps or software on your phone?
Me: same apps i had on my old phone, but when i factory reset it i kept everything off
AT&T Rep : Okay, thank you. On the top of your phone screen does your device show that head phones are connected even when they are not?
Me: let me check
AT&T Rep : Thank you
Me: speakers were not working (no headphone icon), plugged in headphones (those work), unplugged headphones and the icon is still there
AT&T Rep : Okay, try powering off your phone with the head phones in for 30 seconds and then remove then and power back on your phone
Me: k 1 second
AT&T Rep : Not a problem
Me: okay i didn't reboot it
Me: but when i was going upstairs for the headphones.. i noticed the icon was gone
Me: and it started to work again... really strange... thanks so much
AT&T Rep : You are most welcome. If you notice this become a regular issue I would take it in store within 14 days of the shipment date of your phone to replace it for a new one. If not we can do a warranty replacement on the phone but it would be certified like new and not new.
Me: so weird since i factory reset it and everything
Me: thanks again gotcha on the 14 days
AT&T Rep : You are most welcome. :] Enjoy the rest of your day and your weekend, and the upcoming holidays.
Me: you too!

What charger is that?

Nice! Thanks for sharing

As dumb as this was, it is a huge contribution to the community. Thanks for sharing.
If you listen closely, right when he is about to pull the phone out of the water you can hear a transistor or something start to buzz. Sounds like something was getting ready to blow up lol. Scary stuff, not for me.

i thought you are erica griffin for a moment

I mean it's nice to know that the phone will survive some quick submerges but dear lord did you give me heart palpitations.

I'd say it was a pretty safe bet. After seeing the new android commercials and seeing them throwing the nexus 6 into the fish tank. Glad to see it survived, now I can just reference your video instead off trying it out myself haha.
Would also like to know which qi power bank that is and if you like it.

That was a samsung in the first tank IIRC.

Charger
For the charger he mentioned RAVPower in the video. It looks like the "[2-in-1] RAVPower® Qi-Enabled Wireless Charger / 5000mAh External Battery Pack Charger" from Amazon here:
http://www.amazon.com/RAVPower®-Qi-Enabled-Wireless-External-Incredible/dp/B00HYAZMU2
..decent brand. I have a 23,000mah battery charger for my laptop & phone (no Qi unfortunately) and I'm happy with it.

Initially I had a serious problem with this video and considered it cruel and unusual abuse, but after seeing you provided the Nexus 6 with bath toys to play with while it was in the tub, you have my blessing.

After shooting this video I drove from Des Moines, IA to Houston, TX, (using the phone for navigation), spent a day at the zoo taking pictures, and doing other activities. No problems at all.

My apologies I watched with the volume off. Was in bed next to a sleeping wife. Thanks for the info

Well Done!

Awesome.
Now go try this at the beach!

I'm sure my wife would love to visit Florida.
There was a lot of talk about salt water and the S5. I think that phone would work for a bit, but of course the salt water can't be that good on the seals. Who knows. Definitely wouldn't want salt hanging around inside of the Nexus 6 unless someone wanted to pay for the replacement.

I have an EVO!

So I bought a EVO from a I/O attendee (much cheaper than they are going for on Ebay)... if anyone has any questions I'd be more than happy to answer any. I have no 4g, but I'm at work right now which is right next to Google, so I'm going to go out in a bit and see if I can latch onto the Mountain View 4g network...
First impression: Wow this is big. I never played with a HD2 in person or anything. I find it big enough I have to strain my thumb to reach across the screen for one handed operation... It's pretty fast though, my Hero is O/C'd to 768 and it is noticeably slower.

3 main questions
1)screen toughness compared to hero? the hero has a beast of a screen,
2)is the onscreen keyboard noticeably better? hero screen is unusable imo in portrait with my monster hands
3)general fluidness of senseUI on the EVO? on a scale of buttery goodness from winmo(1) -> iphone (10) how would you rate it? Stock hero IMO being a 6-7
*realize possible flameage from winmo supporters... um... think of something not smooth in the mobile market like a G1 or somehting*
also after you get some time, real life battery consumption based off useage
Can you tell is about the battery? I have read that it uses the same one as the touch pro 2 which is the same one the hero uses. It would be great If it does.

I don't see any SIM slots, though where the MicroSD slot can look like one a bit, but the SD card is working, so i'll assume that's not a SIM slot

Not sure to what you mean by "toughness", I'm guessing scratch resistance? I'm not sure yet, I've been babying it to say the least, and going to put a screen protector on as soon as I can. Though it has the same feel as the Hero.

Well I'd rate the stock Hero at a 5, O/C Hero at 7, and this at 9. Always room for improvement.

I was looking on ebay earlier today and almost went for it a couple of times.
My wife has no idea that I am about to drop $500 on this phone (no upgrade discount) on the 4th. If she did, I would never hear the end of it!
So, looks like I will be waiting until the 4th with cash-in-hand.

One of the perks of being next to google...
Actually a few of my interns from last summer work at google now, they don't have enough pull, but maybe in a few years I'll really get stuff early.
1. How's the Qik video calling feature? Are you able to use it yet?
2. Any out-of-the-box practical usage for the digital compass?
3. FM radio?
4. What's the built-in video player like? Have you tried playing any flv, avi, divx, xvid, h.264, etc., videos, either from internal memory or SD card?
5. How quickly does the GPS lock in on your position?
6. Have you downloaded any apps yet that stand out on the Evo's screen or hardware?
Finally, we are all very jealous at this point. We still have to wait a few weeks...
Thanks for the info on the batteries. That means I already have a charger and spare batteries for it!!
I do have one last request if it is possible. How does video quality compare with the zuneHD that you have? Do the videos look better on the evo or the zunehd?

I don't have any HD stuff on the Zune sadly, so it wouldn't be a fair comparison. I use it primarily in SD as i just play videos on it while at the gym.

You can see the FM Radio in action in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pslg402CHss
Look around the 2:50 mark. Basically, you need headphones plugged in to act as the antenna, and it works really well with good sound quality.

Does the FM Radio support RDS?
What about call volume? On both ends? Some HTC phones I have used are great in quiet room but like in my car with the windows down I can barely hear the other person.
Could you test that please? What about txt/email notification, are those loud enough?

this is coming from a heavy user of both phones (me)
Nexus s: gingerbread and flash on camera
Galaxy s: fm radio, external sd card and HD recording at a higher frames per second.
Clear winner has got to be the galaxy s,
Note: missing an external sd is awful.
I Can't wait for gingerbread to hit the galaxy s

Not a disagreement on the topic as it is personal but I have never, ever needed an external memory card. And the SGS is way better at video which I have actually got to post soon a proper side by side recording demo, but I really do not care. At all. An that struck me as odd..
I think not everyone needs video in HD and some people may claim they do then entirely ignore the function. I prefer battery life and call quality over 720p video. But this is a personal thing.
something that should be mentioned as well
the Samsung Nexus S DOES NOT have gorilla glass, it will break if you drop it the wrong way
the SNS has NFC (which i rather trade for a microSD support)
i ran out of space too many times already, it's really hitting a nerve
is very annoying to have to keep uninstalling stuff, to be able to try something new

SD over NFC... I'm sort of with you, I don't use either. But the NFC has been amusing so far just to wave it over the security tags at work, it's vaguely possible something interesting will come of that and the developer community.

No but it is something I could try although it may have to be faked with my stereo.
I have some night time video and regular phone call recordings which I need to mix up and put on youtube or somewhere yet - tumblr is not too good at mixing multimedia into a text post apparently.
I am open to questions on the topic, it would help me add more in a follow up post later on. The idea is to help people make a choice, even if they decide an HTC or iPhone is best for them.
SGS video recording @ 720p is good although the audio stream is pathetic. Even when trying to shoot a video of my floorstanding speakers playing music, the audio statistics of the file generated are horrendous.
Last time i checked i got 62kbps bitrate and 32KHz sample rate. This is by no means 21st century stuff. Garbage.
Audio playback through headphones sucks majorly compared to my ipod. Makes me wonder why i chose this plastic piece of junk.
GPS is top notch, on my 6th replacement handset from orange...oh its something alright. The replacement i received this morning gives a slight pink/red tint when using the camera function, focussing on a white sheet of paper.
Should have gone for the iphone4, shoots great video with good sound, plays good sound, gps works...thats all i need. Oh and mic is clear for calls. I am by no means an Apple fanboy, i just want something that WORKS! Silly i know...

LMAO!
this is so true
It is true, it is insane and it is funny. Well less funny at the price we paid but you know.
It is because of this that I suspect if 2.3 is built for SGS it is not suddenly going to work properly especially since it would seem the filesystem is a big part of the performance.
Mind you, now Google is building the OS with Hummingbird in hand perhaps it will improve slightly by default?
Google Nexus S Complaints Grow, Android Gingerbread To Blame?
Tuesday, 11 January 2011 22:24 Kayla Adams .
The highly anticipated Google Nexus S which debuted recently has all but disappeared from the headlines despite the recent row of new Android smartphones unveiled at CES 2011. However the Android 2.3 Gingerbread smartphone has jumped into the spotlight once again for negative reasons.
Google confirmed reboot bug in Nexus S
The Google Nexus S, manufactured by Samsung, now apparently has a bug which causes the Android to reboot randomly. Google has gone ahead and confirmed the bug which in average causes Nexus S units to randomly reboot at least once every 48 hours. There are also complaints that the handset reboots during calls.
Android Gingerbread software glitch or a Samsung manufacturing defect?
Google engineer Ry Guy, states that the search giant is "in the process of investigating with Samsung" to find the cause of the problem which they managed to reproduce in their labs. Let's hope its not an Android 2.3 Gingerbread bug as many existing Android are looking forward to the upgrade.

I also had this on my Motorola Milestone, but so far the Nexus S has been running for 2 or 3 weeks with not a single reboot here.

I figured since there is finally a place to post this, I will do so here. There is currently ongoing development for the Motorola MotoACTV smart watch. It began simply as a fitness watch, but has evolved with root, recovery, and roms into the best android watch available.
AND IT CAME OUT IN NOVEMBER OF 2011.
Interesting, yes? Let me get you some details from our current wiki (http://motoactv.wikispaces.com/home, started from the members right here on xda):
Code:

IF YOU DIDN'T LISTEN AND ARE NOW "LOW BATTERY" AND CANNOT FLASH:
First thing's first. It will probably still charge on the wall charger or a car charger. Try that first. But, if it won't...
(or if you're just an avid flasher,) I'd also recommend you get one of these to help you out of jams: Motorola Factory Cable. The one at that link from Team Black Hat is typically out of stock, but a search of the words "Motorola Factory Fastboot Cable" on eBay can get you one for between $5-8. This cable does not charge your unit and does not come with the MotoACTV.
Any questions? Please post below. And GET YOUR ACTV ON!

Mine brand new when they first came out was $249 for the 8g, but substantially lower now, I'm sure.

I just bought one as well but it still cost me $240 on amazon.

Update: just checked, they're going for $50-200 on ebay, lots are on there for sale.
Also, I will be updating the first post of this thread with any info/links that you guys need. We would love for more development of this device, since we've been doing it for months/years now.
Wow this seems great! Youtube and a browser. I recently bought myself the Sony Smart Watch, and I was not too impressed with the battery life time, how is this ones?
I also managed to ruin my SmartWatch, but I'm gonna get it refunded from the store I'll probably get this from eBay! Is there any bugs/problems I should know about from the Motorola watch?
I get mine tomorrow, and my only concern/question is how well this handles Bluetooth tethering. I use FoxFi and PDAnet with phone and tablet and i'm hoping I can use the same with the motoactv.

Not really. Battery life for me is around a week, sometimes more if I turn it off at night. I don't leave bluetooth or wifi on unless I need them though, and keep the brightness around half. I also turned off the shake-to-wake feature, as my watch was turning on when I was just walking around and using up battery life with the screen on lol.
But, for such a tiny battery, a week is pretty good in my opinion. Either way, you can just charge it every night if you're a heavy user. Keep in mind, this isn't like those other "smart watches" that only issue notifications, this is a full blown android device.

I know Nook Tether works on it for bluetooth tethering (internet pass through) I believe, but I'm not sure about the others. I've heard of PDAnet also, it might have been another that worked. I don't tether mine though, so I'm not sure.
The only thing I want different is the watch strap, and an XDA user is actually working on a better one right now. I can't wait!

I'm leading an auction on eBay at the moment. The "Buy Now" alternatives is too expensive with shipping to Norway :/
A week battery time sounds good to me I had to charge my SmartWatch every day, and that wasn't a problem.
How's the Firefox browser and YouTube app working on the watch?

Youtube works great, not sure about Firefox though. I think some people used Boat browser or something and had fine results with it.
Is there a way to keep the display on to use as a watch, without pushing a button? How much space does the OS use? Is Ebay prefer over Amazon for purchase?

It has shake to wake, where you shake your wrist and the display turns on. The os doesn't use much, maybe 200mb or something. I've got the 8 gig version and have plenty of space, even with roms. However, the space for installing apps is limited for the time being. I'm not sure, but there might be a way to partition the space on the device to get more app space.

I was unaware of the shake to awaken. I will go for the 8 Gb unit when I get the funds. More reading needs to be done to see which ROM may be the best for me. How hard is it for someone to generate a customized ROM without extensive training?

The hardest part is the script lol. Making one work is not easy. I've been working on roms for years now and this is the most finicky device I've ever seen.

I will have to pass on this activity fir now. Does any ROM support an audible alarm and customized time date screen?
It doesn't have a built in speaker. I'm sure you can get the alarm to show on the screen though?

That could be a problem I was thinking of using the alarm in the morning and when needed. Off to see one at VZW today.
The store did not have any, demo or for sale.

Cool! Let us know what you think! Of course, the one you see won't be rooted or have a regular android launcher on it yet.
I have decided to buy one, preferably at less than ~$250. I would prefer new versus used since they are discontinued and i am uncertain about warrantee. Maybe i can afford to order one next week. No doubt I will have questions, if rooting does not go smoothly.

Just make sure it's charged to 100% before you start, and use the root tool with a windows machine. It should be easy as pie.

Bugs!

Just to put this post in some context. I have been buying mobile phones since around 1988? I have owned most brands types with different OS the lot. I have never had a bug problem with ANY of my past mobiles including those from Samsung like the Nexus S, SGS11, SGS3, SG Note.
This is NOT a bash Samsung nor bash the Note3 post.
I purchased my Note 3 on the day of introduction to the market along with the Gear, 25 09 13. Since that time I have had to factory reset my Note FOUR times through ?Bugs?. First bug was the notification sound kept going off every few moments for 24 hours all night long. It nearly went through the window. Had to turn it off spend hours next day trying to find the cause, couldn't so I factory reinstalled the phone. All good for a week, then S-voice and this is the big bug, it keeps answering me even though its shut off!
All of a sudden it will speak to me and say it cant find what ever the conversation may be I am having at the time? Seems to have a complete mind of its own so much so my family have started to sit around the phone when we chat to allow the Note to partake? Its surreal. Factory reset twice and still the same.
I am also having other programmes open when I am not activating them. Several programmes also seem to have a mind of their own?
This is not me, thank God, I have yet to go completely gaga, my family are actually asking to set the phone down so we can see what its going to do next!
Would there be a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 exorcist available in the membership? Its gone from being annoying to a cause of much amusement for my family but its truly getting on my t1ts
Any suggestions, apart from burning it at the stake, would be welcomed. :cyclops:
Many thanks in advance.:good:
Kind regards
I havent experienced any of those problems. The only problem I have is the my magazine app keeps crashing.

I think you should return the device to a samsung service centre to swap phones, sound like you really have a bugged one, i bought mine within the same week and so far so good, no problems or hickups whatsoever. For me it's the 1st samsung device i am truly 100% happy with. (had the i9000/i9100/i9300/N7000/N7100 and now the N9005)
All of them had their own bad things, for example S1 had RFS filesystem lagsauce, S2 had EMMC brickbug like the Note1, S3 and note2 had the suddendeath bug and not to forget the AMOLED build quality on all phones.
Hope you get yours fixed/swapped for a good one.
I've had a couple problems with phone freezing, soft buttons not responding but I realized it was the app "Android Tuner" that caused it.
But without Android Tuner the phone works flawlessly like my other Samsung ones.
Sorry to hear about your problems though.
Runs fine here although I did disable some bloat including S Voice since I prefer Google's better.

It sounds like you have S Voice set to always listen which includes when the device is off. The SGS2 used to have this feature but it chugged battery. I like and use this feature, for example to call someone when my phone's sitting on my desk without having to pick it up until the person I'm calling picks up. If they don't I can leave a message via speakerphone. All without ever having touched the phone. This feature's return is Samsung's answer to LG's Knock On.
I have S-voice deactivated so it cannot function yet it does?
My family find this hilarious. I was in the rest room this evening sitting on the loo, to be blunt I began with wind and the bloody deactivated S-voice asked me to repeat what I had said as she didn't catch that and then asked if I wanted it to look for Pruuup on Google! I swore at the phones (sorry about the lack of self control) and S-voice told me to calm down! THIS IS ridiculous.
My grandson now wants to play with the darn thing and I find him having a conversation with this lady known as S-voice.
I shall well be in the dog house if I do manage to resolve this most annoying and very peculiar problem!:silly:
I repeat the S-voice is not even turned on. I actually found myself looking this evening in the loo for hidden cameras expecting to find myself on some TV, 'You have been had' sort of game. What began as odd turned to rather humorous, now I am talking to some lady on a mobile phone who is telling me to keep calm. Any one know the phone number of the FBI? I think I have been bugged?
Hey I could write a book and it could be made into a film. The phone that came to life and.....Oh dear......I might not like the ending
I have looked in the mirror and psychoanalysed myself and I appear as bonkers as 'normal', nothing new....What on earth can be doing this?
I dare not return it to the store as no one will believe me unless my family are at my side and they like the mobile as it is. The other point that worries me is should I take it back and the phone behaves itself I could find myself being carted away by two men in white coats for a psychiatric evaluation? Knowing my luck S-voice lady, she would keep stum until I was discharged then chuckle at me as I walked away from the fruit and nut ward!:silly:

You mentioned you have a Gear. It uses the phone's S Voice app to function. When a Gear's connected I don't know if you can fully disable S Voice on the phone. I occasionally get "microphone in use by another application" errors on both the phone and Gear so mic control between the two isn't perfect yet. Maybe that's related to your issue.

Yes I have the Gear. Oddly enough (to date) this S-voice situation only occurs when my Gear is turned OFF? If I use the gear the problem goes?
Thanks for mentioning that even though I still have no idea what to do about it.
I wonder if Stephen King would like to buy a mobile?

There have been two updates to Gear Manager. The last one really improved the connection between the phone and the Gear. Make sure you update to it. Also, hard reset your Gear before connecting it to the updated Gear Manager. All your apps and settings on the Gear will be restored. Hopefully that'll cure your haunted setup.
Telus Note 3 user here
I can tell you that I have tested all apps thoroughly and I have had absolutely No issues from day one fresh out of the box.
Stays cool and battery goes long. I downloaded multiple apps too from the Play Store, No problems at all so far.
I am planning to root after a while.

Lol, now before you go writing books on how the Note 3 is a failure, it really does sound like your specific phone is messed up. You can keep trying to fix it but it'll probably still mess up in some way.
And I'm pretty sure they'd believe you if you brought it in and it acted fine. But they'll probably just factory reset it. They think that's the answer to everything. Not sure of your carrier, but with Verizon I just have to call in and they'll troubleshoot it, and if it still doesn't work they send a replacement. And since the phone is still new it should be a new phone and not just a refurb.
Bring to service center. End of story.
Your issues is rare, some spirit inside the phone.
Best Device so Far
Hello all,
Am glad to be part of the Note3 N-9005 crew
coming from my good ol' GT-I9100 S2, which hardly had anything working wrong. I hardly had any trouble with my S2, no brickbug, etc, always kept testing new ROMs.
Now the Note3 seems more like an upgrade, an upgrade in terms of stability, power, RAM, and android power. plus the S Pen of course.
Having used it for like 2 weeks now, I am a hard user - I have seen no issues whatsoever till now. The phone works and flies flawlessly across apps when multitasking, switching to and fro S Pen is seamless. even the fast charge takes least time to charge the device till full.
So all in all, I find this is a very stable, very fast and better than any iOS spawns.
Regards and enjoy this phone

I am as surprised ad baffled as you are. I wrote in my opening remarks that this is THE first phone, form any brand since 1988, I have ever owned that has had a problem including numerous Samsung's in the past three years. Guess its just my turn. EVERY device makes a lemon on times. This is to be expected.
If I keep the gear on the problem goes with regard the S-voice. I have yet again, for the fifth time, reset to factory settings today and lets see what happens. If it plays up again I will take it back and see what can be done. problem is in doing that the store just send all such devices back to Samsung's repair representative and I would be without the phone for maybe a month. After sales in this country is abysmal and getting worse as the financial crisis bites even deeper here.
I shall press on for now and see what happens.:good:
Regards.
Sync issues
Hi all,
I am experiencing this wierd bug on my note 3 with syncing of my google account. Device automatically disables sync for few of my google apps like Drive, Gmail, Calendar. Even if I enable sync, after a few hours the sync itself disables. Please note that this issue is not for all of my google apps, for eg. chrome and other google apps dont have this issue.
Does anyone know if something I should enable or do somewhere to resolve this annoyance?
Thanks

The Lenovo Lynx is not exactly a hot-selling item worldwide, and so naturally there is not much discussion on this Windows 8 tablet on these or other forums.
There are however a few threads on XDA about one or other issue relating to the Lynx, so I thought of creating a thread where all of us could come together and share problems, solutions and tips.
I'll start off with some useful links:

You should already have done the free upgrade to Windows 8.1 (if it didn't come preinstalled) For those who did not do the upgrade, here are a few useful links after you do the upgrade from the Windows store.

Tested my unit, can't find any screen burn or bleeding. Have you tried updating your video driver? Does the display have any other problems (jagged lines while switching apps, screen going blank, 'Video driver stopped working and has recovered' message popups etc?
I did have that last problem after I upgraded to 8.1, but it seems to have resolved itself after a Windows Update.

I actually have tried 4 different versions of the display driver. I've used 1099, 1177, 1160, and 1130. 1130 is the only one that doesn't give me the "driver stopped working" message. What driver version are you using? And could you list what Windows updates you have installed?
No jagged lines at all. No blank screen.

I ordered a Refurb from Newegg for $239 yesterday, it should be here by Friday, I'm really looking forward to turning it on for the first time.
I love Android but only on my phone, Never liked it on tablets.. was always left disappointed.
I searched for awhile and couldn't find a dock for it, the only place I found was on amazon and it's "Currently unavailable".
I was hoping to find one on ebay for a decent price, I might go with a Bluetooth Keyboard + Leather Case from ebay.

Congrats on your purchase. If I were you I would try and find the lynx dock for it... you get an additional battery (it adds 4-5 hours easy) two full-size USB ports, and a trackpad (trackpad is kinda jumpy, though), and you can easily work with the docked tablet in your lap, or tilt the screen at any angle you like.
Getting a keyboard folio won't have all these conveniences.
Do let us know all your impressions of your new tablet.

Have you tried this:
Go to Control Panel>Power Options>Change Advanced Power Settings and change value for Turn off Display = After 1 min.
Check if after that 1 min, does only the display go off or the PC goes to sleep?
Also change the values for Lid close action = Do nothing

Check if after that 1 min, does only the display go off or the PC goes to sleep?
Also change the values for Lid close action = Do nothing
Click to collapse
Yes. Nothing of those settings works if cpu is clovertrail. Always go to sleep.

I love this tablet, newegg sent me one with a broken left speaker though, and I am trying to get it replaced, but seems like it will be a hassle.
My messages to newegg on ebay so far ...
Dear *****,
Thank you for contacting Newegg. We apologize for the delay in response time due to the enormous order volume from Black Friday, Cyber Monday and Holiday's. We answer emails in the order that they are received. If your inquiry has already been resolved, please do not reply to this email. If you have sent us multiple inquires and we have already replied, please only respond to us one time. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
I apologize to hear this, and would be glad to assist you with your return. This is a non-refundable item, so I will be able to help you return this item and have a replacement order sent out. I just need a little more information first. 1. Do you still have the original packaging and any accessory that was originally included? 2. Can you please give a detailed reason for the return?
Please let us know if you have any further questions or concerns. We'll be more than glad to assist you. Until then, thank you for contacting Newegg. Have an EGGcellent day!

My response...
Dear newegg,
I upgraded the tablet to windows 8.1...other than that the tablet is in the same condition I received it in.
I have the boxes it came in and I have the charger that doesn't seem to work with the tablet

Please kindly note that all the items must be returned in the original 100% entirety, including all original packages and accessories, or the RMA would be denied. Could you please confirm if you still have the original system? Thank you for your understanding.

My response
Dear newegg,
As i said ...
"I upgraded the tablet to windows 8.1...other than that the tablet is in the same condition I received it in.

I do not understand your statement "original system", what are you referring to?

I hope they aren't trying to say i can't RMA because i upgraded it to 8.1 before i realized the **** had a broken speaker and defective charger.
But if i can't RMA, hopefully it's just the speaker that is broken and not the board, maybe if i could find a replacement speaker I'd just replace the broken speaker myself. But i get the sense that even with both speakers working the sound on this tablet will still be low, and i've read as much

I think the only option is to use metro apps. From reports on other forums it seems as if metro apps can keep clovertrail tabs awake even when the display is off, but legacy windows apps cannot. So if whatever you are doing (downloading, rendering, transferring etc) can be done with a metro app from windows store, that could be a solution.

I don't think having upgraded to 8.1 should be a problem. It is after all an official upgrade of the preinstalled OS.
Here in India, when I called up the service station with a battery problem (my dock battery was not working) the customer care guys kept trying to tell me to 'take the battery out and put it back in!'
The Lynx is such a rare item that none of those customer service execs had been trained for it!
I eventually had to visit a service station personally to get the dock battery replaced (when that did not fix the problem they replaced the circuit board as well).
But you should get them to replace the speaker and charger. Like in my case, the problem could be with the board.
I am not going to rma it over the broken speaker, Pay to ship it back to them and probably wait a month to get the replacement.. and the sound probably will still be low.
From the reviews i read the sound isn't that loud or good even with both speakers.
Newegg really sucks, it's been years since i bought anything from newegg but i never had problems like this with them before. I feel like i'm talking to a chat bot or something, actually a chat bot probably would be better to deal with.

You're right. Well, if you are planning to replace the speakers yourself, do post a detailed WIP here so we can all benefit. You might have to get the actual speakers from some other device and somehow get them to fit in the slots inside the Lynx.
Though since you're looking for a bluetooth keyboard anyway, you can get one which has built-in speakers.
Or even something like this:
