New firmware certified on ptcrb 23.0.1.A.3.12 ! - Xperia Z2 General

Today, new firmware 23.0.1.A.3.12 certified on ptcrb! Good new for us
(I'm new user so I can't post the link...)

Sounds like another carrier specific branded release possibly Vodafone but we shall see

I think carrier specific update since D6502 variant doesn't have the new firmware certified

On ptcrb website, certification appears to be specific to D6503.

Yeah, that's why I said it was carrier specific update since D6502 and D6503 have the same hardware.

Carrier specific update.

Z3 get update 23.0.A.2.108 for Telstra AU

Check by Xperia Firm for Z3 TD-LTE D6653 get update 108 version.
Anyway to know what is updated in this build
Telstra have not even released the Z3 yet.. I'd say though, this means they will release it soon now that Sony has fixed up the firmware issue that was causing poor Z3 network performance on Telstra.

How do I know what region my phone is from?

Hi guys.
Long time lurker. First time poster.
How can I see what region my phone is from. I bought my phone through Orange. I'm in South Africa.
If I go to Settings>About Phone>Regulatory Information. I see the words Europe, Australia and India displayed. So I'm quite confused as to which one it actually is.
I'm not allowed to post a screenshot as I'm a new user on the forums.
Thanks.

Where did you buy your phone from?
If you got in from India its the indian version and if you bought it from Europe its the European.
Check your model number if its the XT1562 its likely to be the indian version.

I bought it through the South African Orange store. The model is XT1562. The reason why I'm asking is because India and Canada has received the Marshmallow update. But I have yet to receive it. Making me believe that my phone is a European version.

When you are in "about phone" just scroll down to see "baseband version" and "system version" those two items will tell you exactly where phone came from as long as it's still stock and hasn't been modified. System version should have abbreviation of country in it like LA for Latin America, CA for Canada, EU for Europe etc. Baseband relates to wireless operator who sold it originally, mine came from Canadian operator Telus so it has "Telus" in the baseband name. Hope this helps you out.

Thanks you for the post.
I can't post screenshots yet, so I'll type it out.
System Version: 23.21.10.lux_retasia_ds.retasiaal.en.03.retfr
Baseband Version: M8936_2020613.22.03.21.33R
LUX_EMEA_DSDS_CUST
The only thing I really see that points to anything is the "en". Is that maby England?

My phone (UK set) has "reteu.EU" on System version while Baseband version is almost similar as yours. EMEA means Europe, Middle East & Africa. So I'm guessing your phone belongs to EMEA region as mine which currently undergoing soak test for MM. It won't be long I think, maybe as a new year present.

I'm thinking the Motorola staff is all currently on holiday. So you're probably correct in saying it'g going to be a new years present.

I went ahead last night and downloaded the Indian 6.0 version from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-play/general/moto-x-play-marshmallow-6-0-ota-t3267061
Every digit from the file matches my system version. So I was very confident that it was going to work. I put the file in the root of my sd card. Restarted my phone. After putting in my pin I was immediately prompted with system update available. It took about 10min to complete. Everything working perfectly so far.

International Firmware

Before I start, this is the first android phone I've ever owned so the question may or may not be stupid.
So I live in India and I saw the trade-in deal for the S8. I was in need of an upgrade (iPhone 6) so I went for it as I was heading to the U.S soon. I heard that the international version gets updates sooner than the unlocked U.S version. Can I just change my firmware to international, get earlier updates with no drawback? If yes then why have I not seen a lot on this?
Pretty sure the firmware is locked to the device unless you root. I had an unlocked international S6(920?F) . It updated a lot earlier than the W released in Canada.

If the device you get is G950F (international) then updates will come sooner. If you get any other version they are for specific regions, so if you get G950U (US unlocked) you can't flash international firmware to it. Can only flash firmware for the model you get.

Then what are the benefits of people switching carriers for example? There seem to be a bunch of threads giving a tutorial on how to change firmware to different carries e.g. From a T Mobile to Unlocked.

For stuff like WiFi calling, voLTE, removal of bloat some csc tweaks
Guess that's unfortunate.

Oreo outside SEA?

Anyone has any info on OTA update, outside the zone that landed first? like Europe/USA?
Europe/Greece here.. No
Same Sh1t... Different Day
Europe, The Netherlands.
So far, no update
Thx for the update guys.
Romania/ Europe, so far its silance.
I think it depends for what region the phone is made for. I dont know how you can check that, tho i bought it from my country so it must be for it/eu.
Maybe one week after original APAC update will be enough to release EU, maybe they will work on fixes, who knows...
If they work on fixes, i can wait.
If not, i dont see the point of not realeasing it.
Btw, how you check for what region was your phone made?
Europe France no OTA today
Idem today at me, i think it will take them a while to deploy in Europe..
Htc suspended the OTA much problems with Oreo
Europe Italy no OTA......,IDK when will it lands in Facebook some reporting that users with firmware 1.64.617.17 with dual SIM update is rolling out now
any update guys? i saw an OTA picture in other thread. I dont have more info about it, but maybe he will post.
Nothing here in Bulgaria. My phone is imported from UK.
How can you check from where / for what region is your phone for? if anyone knows.
You can check here with imei number:
https://imei24.com/imei_check/HTC/
You can see your imei by typing *#06# in dialer

Anyone with Latin America variant (975F) received the October security update?

Anyone with TPA?
Anyone?
Is it really possible that some markets don't get security updates, or is something wrong with my phone? I know Samsung had a security patch in October but my phone doesn't think so.

Thanks @Viryllo. I have it and according to Frija I am running the latest f/w, I just don't understand how can it be that some markets need to have security patches and others don't.

No worries mate. I've been in this situation since the beginning days of Android.
I looked mine up on samobile and it said latest security patch for Columbia is Sept but I never received the OTA.
So I do what I always do flash with Odin.

OK, but I am curious - does Samsung think that certain countries don't need security update, or is there something wrong with the phone, or the fact that I am not actually in Panama (Panama phone, using TMO in U.S.) prevents me from getting OTA updates? This is basically my question. I need to know because if it's the latter, I'll be waiting for updates for the rest of my life.
Thanks.

Your Service Provider won't impact when you receive OTA Updates, they're distributed by Samsung according to the firmware on your device. In general Exynos variants have to wait longer than Snapdragon variants, likely due to a wider range of SW Provider Firmware variables on Exynos devices. I have the Snapdragon variant, received the Sept 1st update about a month ago.

Thanks for the insight.
I've always had the unlocked version of Samsung phones and most of time I had to flash to get the latest fw.
Same thing I will doing the get on Android 10.

OK, but still - how come some Exynos countries receive updates and others (Exynos countries) don't? I just don't understand this logic of things. Thanks for the explanation though!
That's a question for Samsung, I don't know their priority guidelines.
