I have just bought a S5 and upon turning it on for the first time I've been unable to restore to factory settings. It reboots but doesn't restore. I'm unable to get into download mode and recovery mode is also being displayed as upside down and I can't select any options. The phone also doesn't pick up any signal despite trying different SIMS. I highly suspect that it hasn't got the stock firmware installed.
The final issue is when downloading apps I get the usual error of no storage space.
Any ideas how I can restore back to stock ?

You need to put the phone in BOOTLOADER mode and reflash the image via Odin. You cannot choose options while in BOOTLOADER mode. Use the search feature, and it is a pretty straight forward process.

Hi everyone I just recently purchased a used S4 the GT-i9500. Everything seemed fine until I got home. It detected my T-Mobile Sim fine but I could only access 2G data and could not connect to any WiFi network I came across. The rom was stock 4.2.2 and the phone was rooted pre purchase. So after fiddling around for a few minutes I discovered the previous owner had flashed TWRP v2.4.1.0 as his choice for a Custom Recovery. Now at this point I had decided to flash on a Custom Rom and of course I first made a backup before flashing on WanamLite. Now after attempting to flash it I immediately received a failure. I tried turning off the signature verification and it did not flash. Now in my frustration i attempted to wipe everything and tried flashing Omega Rom v14. Now i was able to go through with the installation and choose what I wished to install and when I pressed Install things went along smoothly until I hit the app SecSafetyAssurance.apk where it freezes. This is a bump that I've run into at least 5 times already. I changed certain options I wanted to install and eventually made it past this and I am prompted to reboot. Now when I do this to my dismay I just receive a black screen. Upon pulling out the battery and attempting to reboot I still receive a black screen. when I boot back into the Recovery and attempt to reboot the system from within TWRP it warns me saying No OS Installed Are you sure you want to reboot. Im at a loss of what to do. I have read about other members suggesting to use ODIN but I am very confused about how to access Download Mode in order to flash a stock rom from SamMobile.com. I could use a few tips or maybe a few options that I'm left with in order to obtain the operation of my phone again. I would like to get my phone back and Im sure some users can relate to how Im feeling so any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advanced!

Flashing through odin is one option.... some users have reported that there were some hiccups when installing omega 14 because of the aroma script.....try a different rom...there are many others to choose from....or you could flash stock via odin as said on the earlier comment good luck

Today I attempted to use ODIN to flash now I am still currently attempting this. When I press the volume down key, power, and home button it takes me to the custom recovery TWRP instead of download mode. The phone did this when I first purchased it. When I still had what appeared to be the stock rom it would always take me to the recovery. When I would use the volume up instead of down it would take me to the factory test mode now mind you this happened when the OS was still installed. When i try that combination now i just receive a blank black screen. Are there any other ways to boot into download mode?
I have galaxy s4 gt i9500 and I m from india. I recently updated to lollipop and rooted by phone and installed philz recovery but later decided to unroot it using supersu unroot option. The strange thing is that i never got philz recovery but my phone was always rooted. All root apps worked fine. Anyways i decided to unroot it.
Now, after unrooting using supersu complete unroot option, i checked for updates and downloaded and ran the 326mb update available in india but the update always fails at 25% and when my phone boots normally , all apps force stop - yes all apps, i see only a black screen and errors of all apps that have forced stoped and only thing i can do is click on ok and power off or reboot my phone.
I cant boot into recovery as if i do that it goes to system update and throws an error at 25%
Please help, i have some imp data which i did not back up - phone is not detected in the pc / kies etc.
Extra info: I once did wipe cache partition and got the exact same issue when of all apps force stoppin on boot but then i went into recovery mode and did factory reset and all was fine.
Thanks - all replies appreciated.
you can't install official updates using a custom recovery
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Free mobile app
Just download the firmware from sammobile or another source!
Download Odin v3.09
Extract (unzip) the firmware file and the odin
Turn off the phone and go into download mode by pres and hold the (Volume down key+Home key+Power key)
Run the Odin and add the firmware file in AP/PDA section
Connect the phone when you get the blue icon in com-id (Before connecting please make sure you installed the proper drivers of your phone. Recommended to install samsung kies3 it will automatically installs all the drivers)
Tick only auto reboot and F. Reset time boxes
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes.
This will install the stock firmware and all the errors will be gone after installing.
^^ Thanks!!
Will this process wipe all data of my phone or all the data will be intact ??
Sammobile has the version 5.0.1 and I am already on 5.0.1 - will it cause any issue ??

Its better to make a backup of your data. But this process will not wipe ur data. Better you do factory reset after installing the firmware because u r experiencing errors. No issue u can still install 5.0.1
Hi I was wondering if you were able to fix your problem. I have the exactly same symptoms with my phone however I got there in a different way.
I got myself in a big problem when trying to change the SuperUS app that go installed with [GT-I9500] CF-Auto-Root method.
I was able to root my S4 i9500 following the "[GT-I9500] CF-Auto-Root" threat a few days ago and everything was good.
Then for some reason (I still want to remember what was the reason) I decided to change the superUS app with Superuser clockworkmod app (I am a noob and I deserve this I know). anyway I downloaded the other app from google play and when I opened it say it has to instal the binaries, I said ok and the phone reset and went directly to download mode I believe.
It was doing something but whatever it did it failed. So I said ok not big deal I will reset the phone and end of story. However now when I boot up the phone when it passes the samsung logo and start to load up the OS every single app fails to load, "unfortunaly xxxxx has stopped" I press ok and then it goes to the next "unfortunaly yyyyyy has stopped" and the next and the next and the OS never loads. The screen just remain black until I press power and gave me the option to power off, reset, airplane mode, etc.
IS there a way to fix o revert this. I am able to get to download mode but ODIN does not detect the phone (odin detects the phone when the phone is in normal mode tho???)
I am able to get to the stock recovery too. Can i fix this from sd card?
any guidance would be appreciated.
Hey all, been a while since I've been on - longest I've ever had a stock phone for . Hoping somebody can offer some advice as I'm stumped...
NOTE: If possible, I'm trying to avoid a factory reset!
Last night my stock UK Note 4 (SM-N910F) died (possibly during an OTA update but I wasn't using the phone and have been told it didn't so not sure) and when turned back on would just sit at the pulsing Samsung logo with no apparent restarting or anything. Clearing the cache didn't make a difference.
Recovery reported my ROM to be N910FXXS1DQE9 (region BTU). After waiting ages for the download, I first tried BTU-N910FXXU1BOC5 which produced the exact same problem with a different Samsung animation. I then tried BTU-N910FXXU1DQHC which seemed to sort of work - it would now boot but gave me a "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" error with a black screen. I then flashed BTU-N910FXXU1DQH3 which is what I have running currently but this does the same thing. I did also try wiping cache in combination with the above (is this actually needed after flashing a new ROM?). I have also tried safemode - would let me open the power menu but otherwise did exactly the same thing.
I'm currently downloading the original ROM that wouldn't boot (N910FXXS1DQE9) from samsung-firmware but it's taking ages at ~50KBps. What are the chances of this working compared with the others, I assume probably not much? If likely, I'll pay up for an account and a quick download.
I've also tried flashing TWRP but I have reactivation lock on - does anybody know a way to disable / bypass this without access to the phone (research tells me probably not but there are a lot of smarter people than me here that I hope could tell me otherwise ). I can get into stock recovery but that only gives me ADB in sideload mode and I can also enter download mode fine obviously. Does anyone have any suggestions on recovering data from the phone before I factory reset?
Simply put, have I lost everything on the phone or is there a way I can retrieve some of it?
Also, I do have a load of server space I can offer with decent bandwidth - I have those ROM images above so I can offer these for download at a decent speed without a cost if anybody here on XDA needs - just send me a PM for a link
So i was simply updating youtube through google play, and messenger through messenger it self and suddenly the phone went into boot loop and can't get it out.
opening recovery mode is hard but when i managed to do it, it simply shows the android icon and installing system updates then restarts again. (tried it ~4 times). thanks to that i can't try clearing cache or any of that stuff on the list that is supposed to appear in recover mode.
trying force restart also does nothing.
trying to remove memory card and sim also didn't work.
i read that flashing HOME_CSC from a rom could fix it but the rom websites i know offer limited sizes and speeds and i don't have a strong internet which ends up timing out, can someone help me out? G935FOJV2ERGE is the one i need.
if you have any other ideas that can help, i would also greatly appreciate it, i really don't want to have to buy a new phone atm, and don't want to lose all my data because i don't used backup services cuz they ate up data .
edit: I am on latest official rom, only used OTA updates, haven't rooted the phone.
edit 2: i managed to get a different region's rom and flashed it's home_csc file, and force restarted it and seems to have worked booted, then it started doing it again just 1 second after that. i didn't even have time to unlock it.
edit 3: managed to get into recovery mode list once, wiping cache didn't work. couldn't get into recovery mode again after that. then i gave up and tried flashing a full rom. still the same problem.
So basically, few months ago i tried to root the phone, get new recovery and different rom. If I remember correctly I got stuck trying to get custom recovery to work, because everytime I restarted phone it would be replaced by the stock one. So I left the phone as it was, and disabled the TWRP app on it. Problem was, I could not update phone. Today I tried to completely revert to stock.
I flashed stock recovery but when I tried to install update from the phone storage, it did not even give me option to select a file.
I tried to update the recovery to newer one which gave me the option to select a file, but the installation got canceled after few seconds, putting me back on the file selection screen in recovery.
I tried to instal TWRP but I can't even boot into it at all because the phone is just stuck with blackscreen and lightblue led light.
I tried to ADB sideload the newest stock rom that I downloaded from OP5 site but this one went to around 50% and then crashed as well.
I also tried to do the update using the Settings>System update > Local Upgrade but this one also fails once it gets into recovery.
I tried wiping cache/reset system settings or wiping every data on the phone before any update but none of it seems to help and everytime I restart the phone afterwards the TWRP app is still there needing an update.
I tried to just lock the bootloader but I got the "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and will not boot" message followed by link to google support. I assume that is because of the TWRP app that is on the phone but I can't get rid of it no matter what I try. I tried searching for people having simillar problems but I couldn't find anything that would help me.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
You can go with the last resort and use the Unbrick tool.
