Hi everyone I just recently purchased a used S4 the GT-i9500. Everything seemed fine until I got home. It detected my T-Mobile Sim fine but I could only access 2G data and could not connect to any WiFi network I came across. The rom was stock 4.2.2 and the phone was rooted pre purchase. So after fiddling around for a few minutes I discovered the previous owner had flashed TWRP v2.4.1.0 as his choice for a Custom Recovery. Now at this point I had decided to flash on a Custom Rom and of course I first made a backup before flashing on WanamLite. Now after attempting to flash it I immediately received a failure. I tried turning off the signature verification and it did not flash. Now in my frustration i attempted to wipe everything and tried flashing Omega Rom v14. Now i was able to go through with the installation and choose what I wished to install and when I pressed Install things went along smoothly until I hit the app SecSafetyAssurance.apk where it freezes. This is a bump that I've run into at least 5 times already. I changed certain options I wanted to install and eventually made it past this and I am prompted to reboot. Now when I do this to my dismay I just receive a black screen. Upon pulling out the battery and attempting to reboot I still receive a black screen. when I boot back into the Recovery and attempt to reboot the system from within TWRP it warns me saying No OS Installed Are you sure you want to reboot. Im at a loss of what to do. I have read about other members suggesting to use ODIN but I am very confused about how to access Download Mode in order to flash a stock rom from SamMobile.com. I could use a few tips or maybe a few options that I'm left with in order to obtain the operation of my phone again. I would like to get my phone back and Im sure some users can relate to how Im feeling so any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advanced!

Flashing through odin is one option.... some users have reported that there were some hiccups when installing omega 14 because of the aroma script.....try a different rom...there are many others to choose from....or you could flash stock via odin as said on the earlier comment good luck

Today I attempted to use ODIN to flash now I am still currently attempting this. When I press the volume down key, power, and home button it takes me to the custom recovery TWRP instead of download mode. The phone did this when I first purchased it. When I still had what appeared to be the stock rom it would always take me to the recovery. When I would use the volume up instead of down it would take me to the factory test mode now mind you this happened when the OS was still installed. When i try that combination now i just receive a blank black screen. Are there any other ways to boot into download mode?

Right guys, I'm really stuck and about to smash my phone in half.
For some reason this morning my phone decided that it no longer wanted the Wifi to work, so it switched off and I haven't been able to get it to turn back on for more than 5 minutes. I've completely wiped the phone and started again, I've restored old working backups and I've updated to the latest versions of ROMs.
The weird thing that I find is that when I restore from an old backup the Wifi works until I go into settings, as soon as I do that the phone freezes before loading the settings and it breaks the Wifi, can't find anything on this and all previous efforts to revive it and solutions posted all over the internet are not working at all.
Really am about to break this phone, so please help!
Any solution would be helpful and I can quickly rule out the ones I have done.

If I had that problem here is the first thing I would try.
First restore the backup you said you had. (the one which has the working wifi).
After doing that go into settings>accounts> Backup and reset and select "Factory data reset".
Then reboot the phone, but don't setup your google(gmail) account yet, skip that step.
When you finally get to the launcher screen go into setting turn on wifi and see
if it's working properly.......
If it is, it means that there was something corrupted in your
data or settings which google/gmail backed up for you.
If that's the case then do a full SYNC with your google Gmail
account so google will no longer restore some corrupt settings
which causes your wifi not to work properly.
Good luck!
Sorry should have stated that I'm still running custom ROMs, I've got PACMAN on there at the minute, but I did as you said and the did the equivalent reset and then couldn't finish the setup because the setup wizard kept crashing. Either way it does ask you to enter your wifi password before entering your Gmail account and I couldn't do that because it was stuck on "Turning on wifi".
About to do a full reset back to a stock rom without root. Did some more testing last night and it seems that I keep losing root somehow, after a little while I'll go into titanium and it'll say root access lost, and then when I go into CWM when I got to restart it will say "Root access is missing, root device?" and neither option helps as if I click yes after a while it just 'goes' again.
I've also had some boot hangs which I've discovered other people have had when they've been faced with the same root missing message.

wifi didn't work?
if the office stock firmware can't get it work , maybe your phone need fix....
I haven't tried stock just yet, about to though, just updated CWM and SuperSU, did SuperSU before but not CWM. I'll see if this works if not then I'll do a full stock install, getting quite miffed off with this now.
Edit: New problem, I can't seem to flash stock as it keeps coming up Odin: write failure. Never had this before :/
For those that are still searching for the answer here is what I did. Links provided for ease.
This method will delete all user data.
This basically is a last resort type scenario so please follow it with caution.
Backup what you can, while you can. Plenty of tutorials online for that.
Download the ROM I9505XXUEMJ7, can be found at SamMobile but slow download. I alternatively used a pre-rooted one just for testing as I had no intention of keeping the Samsung ROM. You can find a copy here.
Download Odin 3.07 and 1.85 (I had problems using some files with them so had to keep swapping)
Make sure you have Samsung USB Drivers installed. (Download here)
Download I9505XXUEMJ7 WiFi FIX, here.
Optional Downloads:
Download CF AutoRoot 1.65, here.
Download CWM 6.0.4.4 .TAR files, see this post.
Now, If you're coming from a Stock ROM do this:
Go into Settings > Developer Options, and enable "USB Debugging". If you don't have that, you need to go Settings > About, scroll down to "Builder Number" and tap it 5-10 until it says "You are now a developer" and the Options should now be visible.
Put your phone into Download mode. (Power off/Remove battery. Then hold Vol Down, Power and Home button until it vibrates. Then continue if asked.)
Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable (if you've only just installed the USB drivers you may need to wait a while for it to recognise the device, you may also have to disconnect/re-connect the USB cable after it's finished loading the drivers.)
Open Odin 1.85 and load the downloaded ROM under the PDA Section (You don't need to change anything else)
Once Odin has added this device, should show "<ID:0/003> Added!!" or similar, click start.
When it's completed it should say "PASS" in green at the top. If it doesn't repeat steps 3 & 4 but with Odin 3.07.
Let it boot up normally, if it gets stuck on Samsung logo (Mine did), you'll just need to clear the user data & cache.
To do that you need to enter Recovery (Same procedure as download mode but Vol Up, not Down.)
Scroll down to "Wipe data/factory reset" and then scroll down to "Yes".
Then select "Reboot system now", it will restart straight away
Once it has finally loaded up select your language and then the next screen should be Wifi setup, if your wifi is working then you're done.
If you Wifi isn't working and won't turn on and is stuck, then continue the setup for the phone as you wish, I skipped everything and didn't enter any accounts as I didn't wish to keep it.
Once you're at the Homescreen, turn the phone off and put it in download mode again.
Open Odin 1.85 and select the Wifi Fix file under PDA. This time untick Auto-Reboot and then click Start once Odin sees the phone.
When it's completed it should say "PASS" in green at the top. If it doesn't repeat step 9 but with Odin 3.07.
Note: Most tutorials do state to add this under Phone, but I found that it kept failing and didn't work.
Turn your phone off and go back into download mode. (Again, I just pulled the battery out)
Close Odin and follow step 9 again. But you don't need to untick Auto-Reboot. This is to ensure that the Modem has been flash correctly.
When the phone has loaded again, try the Wifi out, hopefully this time it should be working. That's all I did after days and days of testing, and now it's working flawlessly.
If you then wish to install a custom ROM again, you are more than welcome to, quick guide:
Enable "USB Debugging", as above (Step 1).
Put your phone into download mode.
Open Odin 1.85, under PDA select the CF AutoRoot 1.65 file found at the top of this post.
Click start, let it restart and install SuperUser.
Once it's booted up, turn it off and put it back into Download mode.
Open Odin 1.85 and select the CWM 6.0.4.4 file and click Start.
When the phone has booted back up, you should now have working Wifi, a Rooted phone ready for exploitation and have Custom Recovery menu ready for you to install your new choice of ROMs.
Took me a long time to write this up, but if it helps just one person, then it will have been worth it. Enjoy!
Edit: I should also say a massive Thank You to all the developers out there that helped me get to this point by providing me with the Utilities, ROMs, Fixed Modems, Root and CWM.
tl;dr phone is in some kind of bootloop, tried flashing stock firmware (successful but can't get past start splash screen), plz halp me
So I was just simply browsing on my phone on reddit is fun app, some Google Chrome sites, and 9gag. So then I saved a gif on 9gag and the phone just gives up on me. It went straight to shut down without any warning whatsoever and proceeded to restart. Thinking that it was just an unusual one time thing, the phone kept rebooting and I started really getting worried. I kept getting the Samsung Galaxy S4 splash screen and after that a black screen and then it vibrated twice and I saw the splash screen again. Didn't even get to see the menu for SafeStrap. After several unsuccessful attempts, I finally accessed SafeStrap after restarting the phone from download mode pressing the volume down button. To make as much precious time as I had, I made a backup (although I checked enable compression which I shouldn't have but I didn't have a lot of space on my SD card) and made an advanced wipe cleaning everything except the SD card. I then proceeded to flash a different custom ROM (GoldenEye if you were wondering) and hoped that it was just a custom ROM error that kept giving bootloops. No such luck. The different ROM didn't even help. So I went back to SafeStrap and made another advanced wipe. At this point, I decided to flash stock firmware via Odin from this link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-att/general/guide-odin-to-stock-updating-rooting-t2926642) with NB1 base. I remember having flashed the non-rootable version successfully and restarted the phone after that. Got past the Samsung Galaxy S4 splash screen and went all the way to ATT splash screen but then it crashed right there. After that, I couldn't figure out the problem and I couldn't flash any more stock firmware (at least from that link) via Odin because I kept getting a fail notice. I asked this question on reddit and the responses kept saying that I may have a defective power button but it doesn't stay shut down and instead bootloops. Should I try to find a new GS4, get another phone or try sammobile firmwares next to see if there's any luck? I really need to save this phone as it is super dear to me. I'm at the point where I can cry right now :crying:
If you guys need any pictures or videos, I will be more willing to do so

I'd say try redownloading the firmware and make sure your cable is good, try a back USB port, etc. I'd guess the firmware files didn't download properly and so it didn't flash properly. Before you do anything though, try going into stock recovery and wiping everything you can from there.

Thank you for the reply. As for the firmware, where should I acquire them? The link I posted has only one firmware (NB1) and I cannot access stock recovery AT ALL. When I do, I can see the blue text in the corner "Recovery booting..." and then the phone restarts again. This is really frustrating

When you plug in the phone in Download Mode, does the blue box in Odin light up? If not, reinstall samsung drivers
Sent from my SM-N910G using Tapatalk
Hello. I had gotten this Note 4 phone which had a custom recovery installed on it but the rom seemed to be official, on 5.1
The first thing I did was go to samfirmware and flash a 6.0.1 rom, it went fine, phone was working properly. Then I got greedy and wanted to test a Note 7 ported rom. Flashed TWRP recovery and from within I flashed RamROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/snapdragon-dev/rom-sm-n910g-ramrom-t3400349 , I downloaded the one from post#2 , the N910F one that my phone is and after it flashed to ROM it simply stopped working. My phone no longer booted, was booting me directly into Download mode with emmc read error. I kept trying to flash the stock rom which I previously flashed and it would fail.
Afterwords I used Smart Switch to reinitialize the phone, writing my phones S/N and that failed as well but at least that made my phone boot into a different recovery where it said to connect to Kies. Once again I used Smart Switch and this time it was successful 100%. My phone even booted into the OS and was working, however, while using it, after 10 minutes the phone restarted into Download mode with emmc read error.
So all in all the phone is functional but it starts to lag and restart. Now I'm kinda stuck again since I've tried to flash the firmware I got from Samfirmware through Odin, it succeded but it just doesn't boot, it goes to Recovery, tries to apply an update and I get an error.
Is there anything I can do? I can't believe the emmc could've broken just from trying to flash that custom rom, especially that afterwards I was even able to boot into the phone.
Thanks for reading and I appreciate the help.

read this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/note-4-issues-t3453048
there are links to more threads related to your issue.
Short version though:
it is dying. install wake lock application, add it to start up and set settings to #4.
accept the fact that your phone will eat the battery faster and one day WILL die completely
Thanks for your response. Regarding the Wake lock application, I'm starting to look into it, I asume I'll have to be rooted. I'll try to recover it again using Smart Switch and then I can only hope I can install TWRP and still have it functional.
Previously when I was able to get it working with Smart Switch, entering the recovery messed everything up. It said it was applying an update and that got stuck.

no need to be rooted, just download, install and set it to autostart
I'll try it if I somehow manage to get the phone working again, Smart Switch just fails now midway through.

Is this the app you're talking about? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl&hl=en
What exactly does it do?
I managed to restore it eventually with Smart Switch, it took quite a few tries, then I switched to my Macbook when I saw the app was available on it too and the 3rd try succeded. I only did it because I saw the 2nd try had the % much higher than the first.

yes, that is the app.
i've read it does not allow your phone to go to sleep mode.
drains the battery faster, but this is the only way to keep note 4 working without swapping its motherboard...
I have a question, my gf recently bought a note 4 and we may swap our phones and if we do, i'll flash CM and tinker with it because i find this phone very interesting, just a question, does this bug affect the N910C (exynos) model? Do i have something to worry about? Because the phone is warrianty protected and if it's the case, i don't want to break it. I hope someone will shed some light on this
Hello Folks,
Looks like I borked my Note 3 tonight. Was attempting to install a new ROM and things didn't go well at all.
Phone was last running BajaROM 4.4.2 with Safestrap as a virtual recovery.
After a failed install of a new ROM from SS, I tried restoring from the backup file I just made tonight before upgrading the OS. Failed. Then, from SS, I wiped the phone and attempted to install the old AllianceROM, and it too, failed. When I went to reboot phone to see what would happen it simply loops the custom Note 3 screen, then blue text Recovery appears in the upper left hand corner, then repeat. Can't boot into recovery, and now, can't get back to Safestrap. All I got is Download mode when I pull the battery and hold Power/Volume Down/Home when I reinsert battery.
I'm following the guide at this link currently, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2483380, but have to wait over an hour for the stock Android firmware to download from one of the few hosting servers that still have one of them loaded.
In the meantime, is there anything else anyone recommends? This is my primary device so I'm kinda screwed till I can get it back up again. Any additional info would be appreciated.
Thanks.
For anyone reading who might be in a similar predicament, the soft-brick fix at the link above got me up and running again. Got the Note 3 running on stock OF1/5.0, rooted, and am now looking into unlocking bootloader so I can properly upgrade to 6.0.
A little disappointed no one bothered to respond in what could've turned into a bad situation, but the site itself did bail me out so no big complaints. Thanks to all the devs for their hard work.
So basically, few months ago i tried to root the phone, get new recovery and different rom. If I remember correctly I got stuck trying to get custom recovery to work, because everytime I restarted phone it would be replaced by the stock one. So I left the phone as it was, and disabled the TWRP app on it. Problem was, I could not update phone. Today I tried to completely revert to stock.
I flashed stock recovery but when I tried to install update from the phone storage, it did not even give me option to select a file.
I tried to update the recovery to newer one which gave me the option to select a file, but the installation got canceled after few seconds, putting me back on the file selection screen in recovery.
I tried to instal TWRP but I can't even boot into it at all because the phone is just stuck with blackscreen and lightblue led light.
I tried to ADB sideload the newest stock rom that I downloaded from OP5 site but this one went to around 50% and then crashed as well.
I also tried to do the update using the Settings>System update > Local Upgrade but this one also fails once it gets into recovery.
I tried wiping cache/reset system settings or wiping every data on the phone before any update but none of it seems to help and everytime I restart the phone afterwards the TWRP app is still there needing an update.
I tried to just lock the bootloader but I got the "Your device is corrupt. It can't be trusted and will not boot" message followed by link to google support. I assume that is because of the TWRP app that is on the phone but I can't get rid of it no matter what I try. I tried searching for people having simillar problems but I couldn't find anything that would help me.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
You can go with the last resort and use the Unbrick tool.
