Right guys, I'm really stuck and about to smash my phone in half.
For some reason this morning my phone decided that it no longer wanted the Wifi to work, so it switched off and I haven't been able to get it to turn back on for more than 5 minutes. I've completely wiped the phone and started again, I've restored old working backups and I've updated to the latest versions of ROMs.
The weird thing that I find is that when I restore from an old backup the Wifi works until I go into settings, as soon as I do that the phone freezes before loading the settings and it breaks the Wifi, can't find anything on this and all previous efforts to revive it and solutions posted all over the internet are not working at all.
Really am about to break this phone, so please help!
Any solution would be helpful and I can quickly rule out the ones I have done.

If I had that problem here is the first thing I would try.
First restore the backup you said you had. (the one which has the working wifi).
After doing that go into settings>accounts> Backup and reset and select "Factory data reset".
Then reboot the phone, but don't setup your google(gmail) account yet, skip that step.
When you finally get to the launcher screen go into setting turn on wifi and see
if it's working properly.......
If it is, it means that there was something corrupted in your
data or settings which google/gmail backed up for you.
If that's the case then do a full SYNC with your google Gmail
account so google will no longer restore some corrupt settings
which causes your wifi not to work properly.
Good luck!
Sorry should have stated that I'm still running custom ROMs, I've got PACMAN on there at the minute, but I did as you said and the did the equivalent reset and then couldn't finish the setup because the setup wizard kept crashing. Either way it does ask you to enter your wifi password before entering your Gmail account and I couldn't do that because it was stuck on "Turning on wifi".
About to do a full reset back to a stock rom without root. Did some more testing last night and it seems that I keep losing root somehow, after a little while I'll go into titanium and it'll say root access lost, and then when I go into CWM when I got to restart it will say "Root access is missing, root device?" and neither option helps as if I click yes after a while it just 'goes' again.
I've also had some boot hangs which I've discovered other people have had when they've been faced with the same root missing message.

wifi didn't work?
if the office stock firmware can't get it work , maybe your phone need fix....
I haven't tried stock just yet, about to though, just updated CWM and SuperSU, did SuperSU before but not CWM. I'll see if this works if not then I'll do a full stock install, getting quite miffed off with this now.
Edit: New problem, I can't seem to flash stock as it keeps coming up Odin: write failure. Never had this before :/
For those that are still searching for the answer here is what I did. Links provided for ease.
This method will delete all user data.
This basically is a last resort type scenario so please follow it with caution.
Backup what you can, while you can. Plenty of tutorials online for that.
Download the ROM I9505XXUEMJ7, can be found at SamMobile but slow download. I alternatively used a pre-rooted one just for testing as I had no intention of keeping the Samsung ROM. You can find a copy here.
Download Odin 3.07 and 1.85 (I had problems using some files with them so had to keep swapping)
Make sure you have Samsung USB Drivers installed. (Download here)
Download I9505XXUEMJ7 WiFi FIX, here.
Optional Downloads:
Download CF AutoRoot 1.65, here.
Download CWM 6.0.4.4 .TAR files, see this post.
Now, If you're coming from a Stock ROM do this:
Go into Settings > Developer Options, and enable "USB Debugging". If you don't have that, you need to go Settings > About, scroll down to "Builder Number" and tap it 5-10 until it says "You are now a developer" and the Options should now be visible.
Put your phone into Download mode. (Power off/Remove battery. Then hold Vol Down, Power and Home button until it vibrates. Then continue if asked.)
Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable (if you've only just installed the USB drivers you may need to wait a while for it to recognise the device, you may also have to disconnect/re-connect the USB cable after it's finished loading the drivers.)
Open Odin 1.85 and load the downloaded ROM under the PDA Section (You don't need to change anything else)
Once Odin has added this device, should show "<ID:0/003> Added!!" or similar, click start.
When it's completed it should say "PASS" in green at the top. If it doesn't repeat steps 3 & 4 but with Odin 3.07.
Let it boot up normally, if it gets stuck on Samsung logo (Mine did), you'll just need to clear the user data & cache.
To do that you need to enter Recovery (Same procedure as download mode but Vol Up, not Down.)
Scroll down to "Wipe data/factory reset" and then scroll down to "Yes".
Then select "Reboot system now", it will restart straight away
Once it has finally loaded up select your language and then the next screen should be Wifi setup, if your wifi is working then you're done.
If you Wifi isn't working and won't turn on and is stuck, then continue the setup for the phone as you wish, I skipped everything and didn't enter any accounts as I didn't wish to keep it.
Once you're at the Homescreen, turn the phone off and put it in download mode again.
Open Odin 1.85 and select the Wifi Fix file under PDA. This time untick Auto-Reboot and then click Start once Odin sees the phone.
When it's completed it should say "PASS" in green at the top. If it doesn't repeat step 9 but with Odin 3.07.
Note: Most tutorials do state to add this under Phone, but I found that it kept failing and didn't work.
Turn your phone off and go back into download mode. (Again, I just pulled the battery out)
Close Odin and follow step 9 again. But you don't need to untick Auto-Reboot. This is to ensure that the Modem has been flash correctly.
When the phone has loaded again, try the Wifi out, hopefully this time it should be working. That's all I did after days and days of testing, and now it's working flawlessly.
If you then wish to install a custom ROM again, you are more than welcome to, quick guide:
Enable "USB Debugging", as above (Step 1).
Put your phone into download mode.
Open Odin 1.85, under PDA select the CF AutoRoot 1.65 file found at the top of this post.
Click start, let it restart and install SuperUser.
Once it's booted up, turn it off and put it back into Download mode.
Open Odin 1.85 and select the CWM 6.0.4.4 file and click Start.
When the phone has booted back up, you should now have working Wifi, a Rooted phone ready for exploitation and have Custom Recovery menu ready for you to install your new choice of ROMs.
Took me a long time to write this up, but if it helps just one person, then it will have been worth it. Enjoy!
Edit: I should also say a massive Thank You to all the developers out there that helped me get to this point by providing me with the Utilities, ROMs, Fixed Modems, Root and CWM.

My friend rooted his Galaxy Tab, and attempted to install a custom rom on it. For some reason, he flashed a jelly bean gapps zip, and now all of the google apps force close (still on the stock rom). This happens even after a full wipe and factory reset, since I would assume the wrong gapps has still been flashed. I downloaded ROM manager from the tablet's browser and tried flashing CWM recovery, but when I reboot into recovery, it just shuts off, and after a while, it's reverted back to the stock recovery (where I can't install zip from sdcard). In addition to this, for some reason, the tablet never gives the option to view files and folders on PC when connected via USB, so I can't even copy the zip files over (USB debugging is enabled). There isn't even any mount/unmount options in the storage settings.
What's going on here, and how can I fix this? As of now, it seems I can't do anything and I may just give it back to my friend.

If you're looking to restore the tablet back to original purchased state then check out this thread here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342995
Install Kies before using Odin as that will give you the proper drivers assuming you're using a Windows PC. The drivers will install the first time that you have Odin set up and you have the tablet in download mode. More than likely, even though you clicked start, Odin will sit or hang like it's waiting for something. If it sits for a while without doing anything at all, early on, close Odin and restart the setup process again. This time around the drivers are already installed and it should go smoothly from there. The tablet will restart on its own when its finished and after long boot you'll be greeted by the intial setup. It should naturally do about 3 software updates once setup is complete. That means that it will download the 1 update at a time and ask you if you want to install. After each reboot you should see more downloading activity until updates are complete I recommend after the very first boot you shut off mobile data and use Wifi only as these updates may munch up data...
Good luck.:fingers-crossed:
Wow, I really appreciate your response. I'll try this out later today, and post back with what happened (Can't right now as I'm at work). Thanks for your help!
Hello I have messed up my Sprint S4 quite a bit I am posting in case anybody would be nice enough to shoot me some pointers. I hope I following the guidelines here.
Things I did that screwed up my L720 :
First I installed the hotspot mod via filesystem on the phone. ( this didn't seem to harm anything though but worth mentioning )
Second I took it upon myself to delete some system apps ( this is what seemed to messed me up)
Third I factory reset the phone ( now all is hell)
Notes:
The reason I factory reset the phone is that when I would try to install a new app from the play store that would not work.
Now when the phone boots it optimizes 122 apps then goes on to give me an alert box I believe for each one saying it is busted overlaying the samsung account wizard thing. And it doesn't let me past the boxes.
I never enabled USB Debugging
Attempted Solutions:
I tried to re-root it with the CF Auto Root thread using ODIN but that doesn't seem to help.
Then I wanted to download that Samsung-Updates.com-SPH-L720-SPR-L720VPUAMDC-1365579188.zip file from that thread and follow that tutorial but hotfile lost connection and is now having me wait 30 minutes before I can attempt to download it again.
I figured during this time I would post my problem seeing if anybody had a quick fix. That I am not thinking of, possibly some kind of recovery deal. Not that I have ever backed anything up.
Thank you for any suggestions
Pull the power plug on your router for thirty seconds then plug it back in again. That will give you another ip address. Restart browser and make sure you clean all history and cache and cookies. Now go back to download mdc again or try a mirror. Flash in Odin then reboot back into stock recovery and do a full factory reset wipe. That should put you back to stock. Next time, don't be as careless removing things or you'll be in another mess.
Thanks for the response, I was not able to get back to stock but I flashed cynogen rom so now my phone is functioning. Now I am going to see if I can follow the tutorial of getting stock rom back on.
Hi everyone I just recently purchased a used S4 the GT-i9500. Everything seemed fine until I got home. It detected my T-Mobile Sim fine but I could only access 2G data and could not connect to any WiFi network I came across. The rom was stock 4.2.2 and the phone was rooted pre purchase. So after fiddling around for a few minutes I discovered the previous owner had flashed TWRP v2.4.1.0 as his choice for a Custom Recovery. Now at this point I had decided to flash on a Custom Rom and of course I first made a backup before flashing on WanamLite. Now after attempting to flash it I immediately received a failure. I tried turning off the signature verification and it did not flash. Now in my frustration i attempted to wipe everything and tried flashing Omega Rom v14. Now i was able to go through with the installation and choose what I wished to install and when I pressed Install things went along smoothly until I hit the app SecSafetyAssurance.apk where it freezes. This is a bump that I've run into at least 5 times already. I changed certain options I wanted to install and eventually made it past this and I am prompted to reboot. Now when I do this to my dismay I just receive a black screen. Upon pulling out the battery and attempting to reboot I still receive a black screen. when I boot back into the Recovery and attempt to reboot the system from within TWRP it warns me saying No OS Installed Are you sure you want to reboot. Im at a loss of what to do. I have read about other members suggesting to use ODIN but I am very confused about how to access Download Mode in order to flash a stock rom from SamMobile.com. I could use a few tips or maybe a few options that I'm left with in order to obtain the operation of my phone again. I would like to get my phone back and Im sure some users can relate to how Im feeling so any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advanced!

Flashing through odin is one option.... some users have reported that there were some hiccups when installing omega 14 because of the aroma script.....try a different rom...there are many others to choose from....or you could flash stock via odin as said on the earlier comment good luck

Today I attempted to use ODIN to flash now I am still currently attempting this. When I press the volume down key, power, and home button it takes me to the custom recovery TWRP instead of download mode. The phone did this when I first purchased it. When I still had what appeared to be the stock rom it would always take me to the recovery. When I would use the volume up instead of down it would take me to the factory test mode now mind you this happened when the OS was still installed. When i try that combination now i just receive a blank black screen. Are there any other ways to boot into download mode?
Hi,
I'm new to XDA forums, and this is the first time that have ever tried rooting my phone. I got it in my head that I wanted to root my Samsung Galaxy S5 SW-G900P so that I could add a hot spot mod. I followed a few tutorials which helped me accomplish root. I then added TWRP and that went fine as well. Then I added a WiFi Tethering Mod (unlockHotspot-1.4-NE5-DEODEX.zip) via TWRP. I was asked to wipe Dalvik cache which is where I think the problem started. I think I did something and stopped the delete process. I can't recall. I turned on my phone with anticipation of being able to use Hotspot. The phone started to boot as normal; the Samsung logo with lines moving around it showed; the yellow 4g 3d animated graphics showed; then the main 4g graphic showed and stayed on my screen which is where it stayed and nothing after that. Just the 4g logo. So, I pulled the battery and started my phone in recovery mode which took me directly into the TWRP interface. I figured that I needed to reload the 6gig backup file that I created (through TWRP) in order to bring my phone back to life. I believe that I was given options to install the recovery file which (I don't remember them all) already had a few check marks added to the options. However, there were other options such as the System and Recovery boxes that were not checked, so I checked those boxes as well. I reinstalled from the recovery backup file and everything seemed to work fine until TWRP rebooted the phone and now I am stuck going through the recovery booting process again. Every time I turn on the phone, I get to the teamwin screen which blinks and blinks. Did I brick or soft-brick my phone? I'm newb to this and need a little help to get my phone working again. Also, am I in the right part of the XDA forum to ask questions? Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.
@Uclid
Soft brick.
Go to sammobile, find your stock firmware, uzip it, flash with Odin in download mode and your phone will wake up from her sleep
Sent from my XT1528 using XDA Labs
Thank you, thank you! I really appreciate the reply. I downloaded the firmware this morning and just loaded it to my phone. All good now. Now, to get that hotspot mod to work.
Good to see you got your phone back up and running......but if you flashed the firmware with odin, you will have lost root and overwritten TWRP.......
You'll need both back before you can flash that zip......

Hello everyone.
I decided to root my Samsung Galaxy S5 phone (SM-903F) tonight. Followed a couple of tutorials, had Unlock OEM, USB Debugging and Unknown Resources on, etc. Everything went fine, Odin said it was successful, phone booted normally... but as soon as if finished booting, I kept getting errors about my apps not working (some of them were: TouchWiz Home, Download Manager, Contacts Storage, Weather). The screen behind them turn black and I can't interact with anything! Tried a Cache Partition wipe, but it did not fix anything.
I don't know what other information I can give, I was using Odin3 v3.11 and CF-Auto-Root-s5neolte-s5neoltexx-smg903f. Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time were checked.
What can I do?
Edit: I meant to put this on the Q&A Section, but somehow posted on the wrong place.

I didn't try any of that, just the root tutorial described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/general/how-to-t3298654
1/ Go to "Parameters/About". Tap 8 times on "Version number". Developer mode is activated.
2/ In "developer option", tick "Activate". Go down and activate "OEM Unlock" & "USB Debugging"
3/ Go to "Parameters/Security" & tick "Unknown Sources"
4/ Download Chainfire Autoroot File
5/ Power off your phone.
6/ Make a charge > 40%
7/ Download Odin 3.10.7
8/ Extract it somewhere and launch it in administrator mode.
9/ Put your phone in download mode.
To do it, press & maintain 3 buttons (Menu, volume down & power). Then push "Volume up"
10/ Quit Kies. Connect your phone to your PC. Odin will detect it in ID :COM
10/ Select "AP" and select Cf-autoroot tar file (if it is a zip file, you need to decompress it)
11/ Verify that only "Auto reboot" & "F-reset" is ticked. Click on Start.
12/ Wait till the phone reboots.

By the way, I can access stuff like the Play Store if I click on OK for all the apps that are crashing, but I have to keep pressing it since the notifications keep popping up.
Did you try with another rom than the last APD4 ? With AP2 or APA4 or APB3 ?
after you root try to format your phone.
I came accross your post by google, I'm experiencing the same problem as you did.
Quick, recap, I own a galaxy S5 Lolipop 5.1.1 SM-G900W8 build #LMY47X.G900W8VLU1COI4.
It all begin, when my phone been experiencing some battery draining issue. So I decide to factory rest. But get this at that time my phone was fully rooted, w/Lolipop 5.1.1...So I've read all the information I could get by unrooting the phone, with Odin, reflash the phone with custom recory. I've made sure to get the exact one match my phone and carrier
And after rooted the phone...All went well...Then 24-48 hours the **** hit the fan.
Where dialogue box keep poping up, Touchwiz has closed, Unified Daemond has closed just to name a few...
I factory rest the phone (at least 3X), reflash and rooted same problem occuring. So I decide not to root and the issue stop but now I'm unable to use certain function of my phone because I'm not rooted.
So when I was that you were experincing the same issue as I did, I wanted to know how did you manage to resolve it or did you fix the problem?
Thank you in advance on getting back to me,

I've made sure to unroot the phone flash com recovery and then factory reset.
I root the phone and the **** hit the fan, I kept getting msg saying such and such apps has closed. The only way to solve this, was to flash recovery my phone.
