Screwed up my phone looking for help - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello I have messed up my Sprint S4 quite a bit I am posting in case anybody would be nice enough to shoot me some pointers. I hope I following the guidelines here.
Things I did that screwed up my L720 :
First I installed the hotspot mod via filesystem on the phone. ( this didn't seem to harm anything though but worth mentioning )
Second I took it upon myself to delete some system apps ( this is what seemed to messed me up)
Third I factory reset the phone ( now all is hell)
Notes:
The reason I factory reset the phone is that when I would try to install a new app from the play store that would not work.
Now when the phone boots it optimizes 122 apps then goes on to give me an alert box I believe for each one saying it is busted overlaying the samsung account wizard thing. And it doesn't let me past the boxes.
I never enabled USB Debugging
Attempted Solutions:
I tried to re-root it with the CF Auto Root thread using ODIN but that doesn't seem to help.
Then I wanted to download that Samsung-Updates.com-SPH-L720-SPR-L720VPUAMDC-1365579188.zip file from that thread and follow that tutorial but hotfile lost connection and is now having me wait 30 minutes before I can attempt to download it again.
I figured during this time I would post my problem seeing if anybody had a quick fix. That I am not thinking of, possibly some kind of recovery deal. Not that I have ever backed anything up.
Thank you for any suggestions

Pull the power plug on your router for thirty seconds then plug it back in again. That will give you another ip address. Restart browser and make sure you clean all history and cache and cookies. Now go back to download mdc again or try a mirror. Flash in Odin then reboot back into stock recovery and do a full factory reset wipe. That should put you back to stock. Next time, don't be as careless removing things or you'll be in another mess.

Thanks for the response, I was not able to get back to stock but I flashed cynogen rom so now my phone is functioning. Now I am going to see if I can follow the tutorial of getting stock rom back on.

[solved] Possibly bricked only the recovery partiton?!

okay so after trying some other options i was able to solve this problem, here is the how to in case this has happened to anyone else. my original post is below the how to.
1.flash the sbf that returns your defy to stock eclair using a different T-Mobile sim, after it is done flashing you will seem to still have the problem, except it will say no sim emergency calls only.
2.power off the device and install your original sim from T-mobile.
3.reboot the device and you will not be prompted to setup motoblur, because you device is in soft brick limbo still, but you will have laggy touch responses, be patient with your device as you navigate to settings>privacy>factory reset and confirm. ( this process will take much longer than usual and the progress bar will not show any progress but it will shutdown and reboot as it normally would with a factory reset)
4. you will now be prompted to setup your motoblur account ( if you are not restart the steps until this happens, if it does not happen your device did not actually do a factory reset you will need to try again until it does ask you to setup blur, this is your sign from the moto gods that your device is no longer in softbrick limbo)
5. setup your blur account ( you will still have no recovery menu at this time so don't try and check or you will have to start back over at step one)
6. now navigate to settings>about phone> check for updates
7.download and install the update to froyo ( durring downloading you phone may shut off several times, however if you reboot it will automatically pick up the update where it left off as if your device never powered off to begin with)
8. once you have installed the update you device will be back to froyo stock and your recovery partition will no longer be bricked
9. enjoy your defy once again, and be more careful with your device in future ROOT mods and tweaks, cheers!
10. If this helped you recover your device please thank me for this solution.
okay so i am new to posting on XDA and i will try to organize my problem as best as possible, but i may need much guidance on if i am posting in the proper forum.
here are my details of my device and the problems i am facing with my device currently.
Motorola Defy
MB525
T-mobile US
stock Froyo rom 2.2.1 ROOTED overclocked with milestone overclock to 1224 mhz @ 85% voltage /V6 SUPERCHARGER SCRIPTS. MODDED BUILD.PROP TO REFLECT THE MAX HSUPA CATEGORY 34/MAX HSDPA CATEGORY 36/ GPRS CLASS 10/ HSXPA=2/RO.RIL.VIDEO_MODES=TRUE EVERYTHING ELSE IN BUILD.PROP WAS STOCK EXCEPT WHAT THE V6 SUPERCHARGER SCRIPTS CHANGES. I was running a custom bootscreen that i placed in the location of the old one using ES file explorer with root browsing rights, i had defy Recovery installed but only used it basically as a system restore app ( context of previous statement is relating to system restore if you were talking about a windows machine) used Avast anti virus as root installation w/antitheft installed used system tuner to manage startups down to core services or other services i did want to run at boot i.e. stuff like facebook and weather channel.
DEVICE WAS ALSO SUBSIDY UNLOCKED
SBF started with and reflashed to try to correct problems was JORDN_U3_6.36.0_SIGNED_USAJRDNTMOB1B4B5DE1028.OR_JORDANTMO_PO22_HWp3_SERVICE1FF.sbf
****NOW TO THE PROBLEMS****
I was starting to think that maybe the v6 supercharger scripts were not really doing anything performance wise for me as it would disable my overclock settings at boot and i would have to manually invoke them after everything had requested its SU rights at boot. so i decided to get rid of the v6 supercharger scripts and all other softwares pertaining to managing and running the scripts, I decided the best way to do this was to do as i had always done in the past when wanting to re-tweak my phone and use the stock recovery to start fresh with 0 tweaks and only apply the ones i wanted after restoring to stock, when i used the stock recovery this time it didn't work, i booted the phone back up after wiping data/ factory data reset and to my surprise the recovery did nothing but delete the SU.apk the custom boot was still in tact, everything else listed above still in tact except for the phone was obviously throwing errors left and right because there was no SU for apps to request permissions from, so i reinstalled the SU.apk just to make sure i didn't have to deal with the device being slow while restarting the process of doing a full wipe. this time i used the DefySDrecovery.apk i mentioned above to do the same steps and while adding wiping the dalvik cache after wiping data and before invoking the recovery, it then gave me the same error i have always gotten when wiping the cache which is
e:\ cant mount cache partition
e:\ cant find /recovery/caller
e:\ cant find/recovery/cache
(this has never caused problems with the device once recovery was finished)
this time however I was only able to boot(loop) to the moto logo
so i reflashed The above mentioned SBF and the device booted normally i went through the entire setup like it was a new device with blur and google and it finished. when I got to the home screen it was frozen and would not respond to touch it also showed to have no cellular signal, i turned it of and back on and it made me go through blur and gmail setup again, went to home screen same thing frozen with no signal.
i reflashed the SBF again thinking maybe something went wrong as they do sometimes with RSD yet still finished and passed on everything
the above description repeated except for this time it responded to touch for the first few seconds before it froze completely ( oops! sorry one detail to add when i say it froze i mean froze like would respond to nothing, touch, hardware buttons, nothing) i had to pull the battery in both instances to try and start over, after many attempts of getting in the phone and trying to turn on usb debugging before it froze i finally was able to complete the finger olympics and get usb debugging turned on, i was able to root it using superoneclick so that i could have a look at the logcat in ADB. now in my experiences with ADB normally when you run a logcat command it will print to the screen for about two to three hundred lines and then slow down and only print one to six lines at a time as the server is calling actions when i ran a logcat on this device it runs two to three hundred lines slows down and then runs lines until you close the ADB window i let it run a logcat overnight and it was still running lines the next morning with no sign of stopping where you could freeze the window and read over all the crap it was calling to action, looking at the device durring this process i saw force close windows a few times saying the com.android.process has stopped but the home screen never crashed and the phone didn't do a random reboot. so to sum it all up ( so sorry for the lengthy explaination but i wanted you to have the whole problem fully explained in hopes you wouldn't have to ask for more detail)
it freezes and has no service with my T-mobile sim in it ( if i put my at&t sim in it has service but still freezes)
flashing a new SBF doesn't fix the problem as it should
and there is no way to enter the Recovery Menu now its gone, non existant, cant find it, cant fix it, i'm F***** right now Please help if you know how, and if i totally screwed the phone i'm cool with you saying so but it can still be in a respectful way i already feel like an idiot for not being able to correct this with all the knowledge i have of this phone, a negative attitude insinuated is not going to help me in either direction, thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

[HELP] Can't Get Wifi To Work.

Right guys, I'm really stuck and about to smash my phone in half.
For some reason this morning my phone decided that it no longer wanted the Wifi to work, so it switched off and I haven't been able to get it to turn back on for more than 5 minutes. I've completely wiped the phone and started again, I've restored old working backups and I've updated to the latest versions of ROMs.
The weird thing that I find is that when I restore from an old backup the Wifi works until I go into settings, as soon as I do that the phone freezes before loading the settings and it breaks the Wifi, can't find anything on this and all previous efforts to revive it and solutions posted all over the internet are not working at all.
Really am about to break this phone, so please help!
Any solution would be helpful and I can quickly rule out the ones I have done.

If I had that problem here is the first thing I would try.
First restore the backup you said you had. (the one which has the working wifi).
After doing that go into settings>accounts> Backup and reset and select "Factory data reset".
Then reboot the phone, but don't setup your google(gmail) account yet, skip that step.
When you finally get to the launcher screen go into setting turn on wifi and see
if it's working properly.......
If it is, it means that there was something corrupted in your
data or settings which google/gmail backed up for you.
If that's the case then do a full SYNC with your google Gmail
account so google will no longer restore some corrupt settings
which causes your wifi not to work properly.
Good luck!
Sorry should have stated that I'm still running custom ROMs, I've got PACMAN on there at the minute, but I did as you said and the did the equivalent reset and then couldn't finish the setup because the setup wizard kept crashing. Either way it does ask you to enter your wifi password before entering your Gmail account and I couldn't do that because it was stuck on "Turning on wifi".
About to do a full reset back to a stock rom without root. Did some more testing last night and it seems that I keep losing root somehow, after a little while I'll go into titanium and it'll say root access lost, and then when I go into CWM when I got to restart it will say "Root access is missing, root device?" and neither option helps as if I click yes after a while it just 'goes' again.
I've also had some boot hangs which I've discovered other people have had when they've been faced with the same root missing message.

wifi didn't work?
if the office stock firmware can't get it work , maybe your phone need fix....
I haven't tried stock just yet, about to though, just updated CWM and SuperSU, did SuperSU before but not CWM. I'll see if this works if not then I'll do a full stock install, getting quite miffed off with this now.
Edit: New problem, I can't seem to flash stock as it keeps coming up Odin: write failure. Never had this before :/
For those that are still searching for the answer here is what I did. Links provided for ease.
This method will delete all user data.
This basically is a last resort type scenario so please follow it with caution.
Backup what you can, while you can. Plenty of tutorials online for that.
Download the ROM I9505XXUEMJ7, can be found at SamMobile but slow download. I alternatively used a pre-rooted one just for testing as I had no intention of keeping the Samsung ROM. You can find a copy here.
Download Odin 3.07 and 1.85 (I had problems using some files with them so had to keep swapping)
Make sure you have Samsung USB Drivers installed. (Download here)
Download I9505XXUEMJ7 WiFi FIX, here.
Optional Downloads:
Download CF AutoRoot 1.65, here.
Download CWM 6.0.4.4 .TAR files, see this post.
Now, If you're coming from a Stock ROM do this:
Go into Settings > Developer Options, and enable "USB Debugging". If you don't have that, you need to go Settings > About, scroll down to "Builder Number" and tap it 5-10 until it says "You are now a developer" and the Options should now be visible.
Put your phone into Download mode. (Power off/Remove battery. Then hold Vol Down, Power and Home button until it vibrates. Then continue if asked.)
Connect your phone to your computer via USB cable (if you've only just installed the USB drivers you may need to wait a while for it to recognise the device, you may also have to disconnect/re-connect the USB cable after it's finished loading the drivers.)
Open Odin 1.85 and load the downloaded ROM under the PDA Section (You don't need to change anything else)
Once Odin has added this device, should show "<ID:0/003> Added!!" or similar, click start.
When it's completed it should say "PASS" in green at the top. If it doesn't repeat steps 3 & 4 but with Odin 3.07.
Let it boot up normally, if it gets stuck on Samsung logo (Mine did), you'll just need to clear the user data & cache.
To do that you need to enter Recovery (Same procedure as download mode but Vol Up, not Down.)
Scroll down to "Wipe data/factory reset" and then scroll down to "Yes".
Then select "Reboot system now", it will restart straight away
Once it has finally loaded up select your language and then the next screen should be Wifi setup, if your wifi is working then you're done.
If you Wifi isn't working and won't turn on and is stuck, then continue the setup for the phone as you wish, I skipped everything and didn't enter any accounts as I didn't wish to keep it.
Once you're at the Homescreen, turn the phone off and put it in download mode again.
Open Odin 1.85 and select the Wifi Fix file under PDA. This time untick Auto-Reboot and then click Start once Odin sees the phone.
When it's completed it should say "PASS" in green at the top. If it doesn't repeat step 9 but with Odin 3.07.
Note: Most tutorials do state to add this under Phone, but I found that it kept failing and didn't work.
Turn your phone off and go back into download mode. (Again, I just pulled the battery out)
Close Odin and follow step 9 again. But you don't need to untick Auto-Reboot. This is to ensure that the Modem has been flash correctly.
When the phone has loaded again, try the Wifi out, hopefully this time it should be working. That's all I did after days and days of testing, and now it's working flawlessly.
If you then wish to install a custom ROM again, you are more than welcome to, quick guide:
Enable "USB Debugging", as above (Step 1).
Put your phone into download mode.
Open Odin 1.85, under PDA select the CF AutoRoot 1.65 file found at the top of this post.
Click start, let it restart and install SuperUser.
Once it's booted up, turn it off and put it back into Download mode.
Open Odin 1.85 and select the CWM 6.0.4.4 file and click Start.
When the phone has booted back up, you should now have working Wifi, a Rooted phone ready for exploitation and have Custom Recovery menu ready for you to install your new choice of ROMs.
Took me a long time to write this up, but if it helps just one person, then it will have been worth it. Enjoy!
Edit: I should also say a massive Thank You to all the developers out there that helped me get to this point by providing me with the Utilities, ROMs, Fixed Modems, Root and CWM.

[Q] GS5 Sport

Hi, I think that I have done something to my new phone and it is not working right now. I was trying to root it, and followed the directions and it went into the rebooting phase. But now it does not want to get out of the rebooting phase. It keeps on turning off and on. I need help. I have looked all over to see if there is ways to root a gs5 sport and have come across a site that said do not try to root it. Now I am in trouble and would like to fix this problem. How do I factory reset this phone, root it if possible.

If you're stuck in a bootloop, pull the battery and boot to recovery, hold home, vol up and power until it boots to recovery, then select wipe cache then wipe data factory reset.

You can try the advice above, but it may not be sufficient. The poster there isn't very attentive to details.
Your phone is in a bootloop. If you are lucky and it's just due to a minor conflict then the above advice will prevail. But if your root was incomplete or any errors were written then it won't be sufficient. In that case you will need to use Odin to write a full factory firmware image to your phone to revert it to a proper working condition.
You should be able to root your phone. But we need to know the details of both your phone (model, firmware, baseband versions, etc) and a detailed description of how you tried to root it. In particular what file you tried to write and the Odin log that shows if any errors occurred during the root. Without those critical details we don't know what happened. If that information isn't available for some reason, then your best course would be to back up any files that are important to you. Then write a full stock firmware image to your phone and start over.

Deleted post, was going to say something I'd probably regret about probably the most bland person on XDA

Luckily I don't have to listen to no more of it, s5 is gone. Note 4 is here. Laters

Phone restarts at startup.

Well this is my 1st post so first of all hey everyone
I just spent a week in Amsterdam and my phone restarted twice, different times different days and I dont remember what I was doing with it back then.
But as I landed back home I put the phone back from "Airplane Mode" and went on to toggle "Cellular Data" on.
The second I pressed the cellular data shortcut on my the phone restarted itself but this time whenever it would finish the screen would be on but fully black and sometimes it'll show battery precentage at the top but then will restart again in an infinite loop.
Sometimes it'll pop up the "Optimizing Apps" window and will go through all 24, upon finishing it will restart once more and do the same.
I tried using the bootloader and it worked (the bootloader that is) but the phone would do the same thing even after Rebooting from there or shutting down from there and then turning back on.
I contacted tech support on chat but they couldnt help past telling me to go to bootloader and reboot, said I should factory wipe when it failed.
Also tried wiping cache but to no avail.
I have no backup of my phone (wanted to do one before the flight but got lazy and I suck for not doing one sooner) since probably October and google doesnt backup my contacts properly for some unknown reason.
I already downloaded Android Studio with everything included for me to try using adb to sideload stock without wiping but its my first time and I couldnt get it to do anything at all...
I already got the official stock .gz file from the motorola website.
Anyway here are the specs to my phone:
XT1575
Everything is stock. didn't root or change recovery once in my life.
Was fully updated and had plenty of drive space (I have almost 128GB with the 64GB version + 64GB SD)
I'm really lost here so help will be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-Noam
Start with a full wipe and if that doesn't work flash the stock image. Not sure what your question is though as you never really say. Once fixed I would unlock and make a backup so you don't have to deal with this again.

The thing I pretty much want to know is if theres a way to either backup the phone now with it connected to the computer while in bootloader or recovery. or a way to flash the stock rom without wiping which I read someone did with his tablet. I cant post source normally because I'm a new user so here it is but change spaces to dots: schnouki net/posts/2014/08/13/flashing-a-stock-android-image-without-wiping-user-data/
Also while in recovery I noticed 2 options under wipe: 1. userdata only. 2. userdata+(insert something I dont remember here) and I was wondering what gets deleted in both? if I delete only userdata what data will remain? something helpful?
Sure you can try flashing without wiping data but being locked I personally wouldn't risk it. No idea about backing up in your state... somewhere I remember a thread on backing up without root try searching in q&a.

Out of curiosity why shouldnt I try flashing with no wipe if ill lose the data anyway? worst case wont I just have to wipe after it fails and flash again?
And I will try thank you
Do you have any knowledge about the 2 wipe options?
Thanks in advance
Well I tried turning the phone on and it took a couple of minutes before loading to a fresh start. It apparently wiped itself on its own. Managed to restore almost everything.
Anyhow the phone takes too long to boot now. Was even stuck at boot and I had to restart it.
Anyway to fix my software? Or at least check for corruption?

Soft bricked data recovery

Hey all, been a while since I've been on - longest I've ever had a stock phone for . Hoping somebody can offer some advice as I'm stumped...
NOTE: If possible, I'm trying to avoid a factory reset!
Last night my stock UK Note 4 (SM-N910F) died (possibly during an OTA update but I wasn't using the phone and have been told it didn't so not sure) and when turned back on would just sit at the pulsing Samsung logo with no apparent restarting or anything. Clearing the cache didn't make a difference.
Recovery reported my ROM to be N910FXXS1DQE9 (region BTU). After waiting ages for the download, I first tried BTU-N910FXXU1BOC5 which produced the exact same problem with a different Samsung animation. I then tried BTU-N910FXXU1DQHC which seemed to sort of work - it would now boot but gave me a "Unfortunately, System UI has stopped" error with a black screen. I then flashed BTU-N910FXXU1DQH3 which is what I have running currently but this does the same thing. I did also try wiping cache in combination with the above (is this actually needed after flashing a new ROM?). I have also tried safemode - would let me open the power menu but otherwise did exactly the same thing.
I'm currently downloading the original ROM that wouldn't boot (N910FXXS1DQE9) from samsung-firmware but it's taking ages at ~50KBps. What are the chances of this working compared with the others, I assume probably not much? If likely, I'll pay up for an account and a quick download.
I've also tried flashing TWRP but I have reactivation lock on - does anybody know a way to disable / bypass this without access to the phone (research tells me probably not but there are a lot of smarter people than me here that I hope could tell me otherwise ). I can get into stock recovery but that only gives me ADB in sideload mode and I can also enter download mode fine obviously. Does anyone have any suggestions on recovering data from the phone before I factory reset?
Simply put, have I lost everything on the phone or is there a way I can retrieve some of it?
Also, I do have a load of server space I can offer with decent bandwidth - I have those ROM images above so I can offer these for download at a decent speed without a cost if anybody here on XDA needs - just send me a PM for a link
