Hi, I think that I have done something to my new phone and it is not working right now. I was trying to root it, and followed the directions and it went into the rebooting phase. But now it does not want to get out of the rebooting phase. It keeps on turning off and on. I need help. I have looked all over to see if there is ways to root a gs5 sport and have come across a site that said do not try to root it. Now I am in trouble and would like to fix this problem. How do I factory reset this phone, root it if possible.

If you're stuck in a bootloop, pull the battery and boot to recovery, hold home, vol up and power until it boots to recovery, then select wipe cache then wipe data factory reset.

You can try the advice above, but it may not be sufficient. The poster there isn't very attentive to details.
Your phone is in a bootloop. If you are lucky and it's just due to a minor conflict then the above advice will prevail. But if your root was incomplete or any errors were written then it won't be sufficient. In that case you will need to use Odin to write a full factory firmware image to your phone to revert it to a proper working condition.
You should be able to root your phone. But we need to know the details of both your phone (model, firmware, baseband versions, etc) and a detailed description of how you tried to root it. In particular what file you tried to write and the Odin log that shows if any errors occurred during the root. Without those critical details we don't know what happened. If that information isn't available for some reason, then your best course would be to back up any files that are important to you. Then write a full stock firmware image to your phone and start over.
.
Deleted post, was going to say something I'd probably regret about probably the most bland person on XDA

So i would say I have a pretty bad problem. Randomly my phone shut off, and when i tried turning it back on, the logo would show up but the screen would later be turned off and only the buttons would light up(home, back, settings, search) THIS IS THE SGH-T959 Model.
I DID NOT root my phone or anything, and the state in which it is in right now i THINK is called a "brick"? My phone randomly keeps vibrating and the buttons stay lit up, but the screen is just completely black. When turned off the battery just keeps refreshing and show a little bit of green, but it doesn't charge past that.
I followed some instructions and I think it's in recovery mode right now, what i see on my screen is Android system recover <3e>. I have the options to choose "reboot system, reinstall packages, delete all user date, delete cache data, and format internal-sd card" I tried rebooting but didn't work, neither did reinstall packages and the error tat came up was E: failed to open mnt/internal_sd/update.zip(No such file or directory). I think that is fine though because i WAS NOT trying to root my phone or anything, this problem just randomly occured. I searched and found things about people getting this problem after rooting, but i didn't try rooting it.
I don't know what to do next, I can't backup any of my content or data since my phone screen won't turn on.
I tried all the common things like taking out the battery, etc, didn't help.
I also read about reverting it back to stock, but my phone is technically already in stock, since all i did were occasional kies updates, nothing that relates to rooting it or flashing it
PLEASE HELP!!!
Does your computer recognize the vibrant when you plug it in?
nope, and when i turn on kies it tells me to connect my mobile phone
And you have data to get it off before we can consider wiping it?
Don't use kies. It will brick your phone. Happens over and over. Use Odin to go back to stock and start over whatever it was you were trying to do.
what do you mean if i have data? If you are asking if i have my data backed up then no I don't.
and I don't even remember the last time I used kies, probably because there are never any updates. And isn't it like the official way of updating your firmware?
In recovery do delete user data and wipe cache if that does not work just reinstall stock rom using odin but go to download mode first. That is pretty much everything that can be done at this point.
If after Odin you still have wired problems in most cases it means water damage and you mother board needs to be cleaned or replaced.

Gun thanks so much, I fixed it after deleting user data and wiping cache. Unfortunately the apps were deleted so it's basically a brand new phone.
THANKS A LOT once again
Was it that simple? Good for you.

Any idea where to find the JFD or JI6 stock Odin images?
All of the links turning up on XDA seem to be dead.
Just picked up this device used for the express purpose of hacking around in it, so would love to have a stock image on hand to restore when needed.
Hello I have messed up my Sprint S4 quite a bit I am posting in case anybody would be nice enough to shoot me some pointers. I hope I following the guidelines here.
Things I did that screwed up my L720 :
First I installed the hotspot mod via filesystem on the phone. ( this didn't seem to harm anything though but worth mentioning )
Second I took it upon myself to delete some system apps ( this is what seemed to messed me up)
Third I factory reset the phone ( now all is hell)
Notes:
The reason I factory reset the phone is that when I would try to install a new app from the play store that would not work.
Now when the phone boots it optimizes 122 apps then goes on to give me an alert box I believe for each one saying it is busted overlaying the samsung account wizard thing. And it doesn't let me past the boxes.
I never enabled USB Debugging
Attempted Solutions:
I tried to re-root it with the CF Auto Root thread using ODIN but that doesn't seem to help.
Then I wanted to download that Samsung-Updates.com-SPH-L720-SPR-L720VPUAMDC-1365579188.zip file from that thread and follow that tutorial but hotfile lost connection and is now having me wait 30 minutes before I can attempt to download it again.
I figured during this time I would post my problem seeing if anybody had a quick fix. That I am not thinking of, possibly some kind of recovery deal. Not that I have ever backed anything up.
Thank you for any suggestions
Pull the power plug on your router for thirty seconds then plug it back in again. That will give you another ip address. Restart browser and make sure you clean all history and cache and cookies. Now go back to download mdc again or try a mirror. Flash in Odin then reboot back into stock recovery and do a full factory reset wipe. That should put you back to stock. Next time, don't be as careless removing things or you'll be in another mess.
Thanks for the response, I was not able to get back to stock but I flashed cynogen rom so now my phone is functioning. Now I am going to see if I can follow the tutorial of getting stock rom back on.
So, I have gotten myself in a bit of a pickle I however think I can get out of it by sideloading using EXT. SD, Im not sure what to flash to solve the dillemma however. So this is the situation. I have a (had) a rooted Galaxy s4 (sgh-i337 ucufnc1) with 4.4.2 android. It had safestrap installed and back ups of everything else in sd card and other locations just in case. The phone was acting buggy, so I formatted the phone with safestrap, the problem persisted, ill get into the issue a bit further down. So I booted back into safestrap, and did a complete wipe, however my sd card must've bumped out, because it didnt delete any media files or so it said, and then after the wipe it crashed. and refuses to boot into safestrap or even past the splash logo. I can get into download mode, but usb debugging isnt on anymore since i wiped it, I can get into the other mode as well ( cant for the life of me remember the name of it atm although i use it frequently) with some luck. I also happen to have all .md5 files from a backup i did about 4 months ago in tact, I cannot for the life of me get them to convert properly to apply them to the phone without safestrap however, if anyone has any insight to this please let me know also.
I can/will list any other information I have if anyone needs it, and if anyone can help it would safe a life!
The reason i reformatted it to begin with, was because media would stall, and when i plugged in the audio jack it'd freeze the entire app using it, then the whole phone would freeze. I believe it was due to lucky patcher but im unsure. The issue began when I altered the auto update file, and even after i rectified it, it persisted. At this time i have a phone soft bricked because it didnt delete all the media files and I assume something bugged onto the kernel image but Im not sure. If I can simply try to restore it to stock kernel then im fine with that.

UPDATE: I resolved the issue, by rooting, safestrapping, ripping the image files, from another galaxy s4 with alike descriptions. then i managed to side load it, then it booted properly, i then reformatted it completely back to 100% factory everything. Now my original problem persists, and i cant help feel that google services is causing it. (examnples of issues" proccess.gapps has stopped. anotrher process error code. phone calls can be made, but not recieved as it seems the server is too busy to n otice it, massive battery drain, audio takes several seconds to play, while video continues to play fine, audiojack is mostly unresponsive, phone calls that are made cannot recieve or send audio during call session, phone may freeze at unlock screen, or any time during operation, may even reboot from process overloading" now keep in mind. i removed every system file and app that the natural reformat will allow. so nothing applied by the user is on the phone, other than natural factory applications. Im digging a bit into the phone as i can but its a slow process whenit starts freezing. if anyone has any idea of what can be causing this, or how to fix this please inform me lol.

The best solution must be installing the stock firmware via odin. Since you are on NC1 , You can installed the stock NB1.
Here is guide explaining you using odin, installing NB1, root with towel root, updated NC1, install the safestrap. The guide was not specifically written for that but you can find those steps in the guide.
I will attempt to do this, since nothing since has work. I am about to get a new logic board for the system in the next 2 weeks. Towel root DOES typically work on this system, however the last time I attmpted it it failed to work outright. Im not sure what has changed with the device, but i believe reflashing stock is the best method. The phone now, will boot up, then skip the lock screen and go straight to the home screen, which is black with no pull down bar, or with no signal and there is no way to rectify it. Even if there were, it boots back down and launches back up and becomes locked at the ATT logo.
After a fair bit of messing with it, and recovery mode it will sometimes boot normally where it tells me that processes has failed and askes me to cancel the ''app''. This is the best option to update the phone and attempt root, but getting it here is so difficult because it reboots itself and the mode is rare to acquire. This problem either is due to the kernel, or the rom i believe. I also am to believe the powercell may have some issue, as i replaced the battery a few weeks back and it worked fine for about 1 week.
Booting into safemode doesnt work either as it skips over the lock screen straight to the home screen. Outsidce of replacing the logic board, or attempting another flash im at the end of the short rope i was already on in terms of options.

UPDATE: I found therein two methods to flashback to stock. I did so, then proceeded to attempt to flash from nb1 to nj4. Progress stopped there when it flung an error 7 at me. So this means either something in my phone is corrupted or the file i downloaded from the above mentioned forum is corrupted. I also attempted flashfire, but seen as it STILL crashes at random due to process errors thats almost impossible to attempt.
Well this is my 1st post so first of all hey everyone
I just spent a week in Amsterdam and my phone restarted twice, different times different days and I dont remember what I was doing with it back then.
But as I landed back home I put the phone back from "Airplane Mode" and went on to toggle "Cellular Data" on.
The second I pressed the cellular data shortcut on my the phone restarted itself but this time whenever it would finish the screen would be on but fully black and sometimes it'll show battery precentage at the top but then will restart again in an infinite loop.
Sometimes it'll pop up the "Optimizing Apps" window and will go through all 24, upon finishing it will restart once more and do the same.
I tried using the bootloader and it worked (the bootloader that is) but the phone would do the same thing even after Rebooting from there or shutting down from there and then turning back on.
I contacted tech support on chat but they couldnt help past telling me to go to bootloader and reboot, said I should factory wipe when it failed.
Also tried wiping cache but to no avail.
I have no backup of my phone (wanted to do one before the flight but got lazy and I suck for not doing one sooner) since probably October and google doesnt backup my contacts properly for some unknown reason.
I already downloaded Android Studio with everything included for me to try using adb to sideload stock without wiping but its my first time and I couldnt get it to do anything at all...
I already got the official stock .gz file from the motorola website.
Anyway here are the specs to my phone:
XT1575
Everything is stock. didn't root or change recovery once in my life.
Was fully updated and had plenty of drive space (I have almost 128GB with the 64GB version + 64GB SD)
I'm really lost here so help will be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
-Noam
Start with a full wipe and if that doesn't work flash the stock image. Not sure what your question is though as you never really say. Once fixed I would unlock and make a backup so you don't have to deal with this again.

The thing I pretty much want to know is if theres a way to either backup the phone now with it connected to the computer while in bootloader or recovery. or a way to flash the stock rom without wiping which I read someone did with his tablet. I cant post source normally because I'm a new user so here it is but change spaces to dots: schnouki net/posts/2014/08/13/flashing-a-stock-android-image-without-wiping-user-data/
Also while in recovery I noticed 2 options under wipe: 1. userdata only. 2. userdata+(insert something I dont remember here) and I was wondering what gets deleted in both? if I delete only userdata what data will remain? something helpful?
Sure you can try flashing without wiping data but being locked I personally wouldn't risk it. No idea about backing up in your state... somewhere I remember a thread on backing up without root try searching in q&a.

Out of curiosity why shouldnt I try flashing with no wipe if ill lose the data anyway? worst case wont I just have to wipe after it fails and flash again?
And I will try thank you
Do you have any knowledge about the 2 wipe options?
Thanks in advance
Well I tried turning the phone on and it took a couple of minutes before loading to a fresh start. It apparently wiped itself on its own. Managed to restore almost everything.
Anyhow the phone takes too long to boot now. Was even stuck at boot and I had to restart it.
Anyway to fix my software? Or at least check for corruption?

Hi,
I have an old G2 which had lineageOS on it, and I wanted to go completely google free and uninstall google play services and stuff, but it seemed my device wasn't rooted (by checking for # in a terminal). I'm completely new to rooting and flashing and everything. Basically I decided I was going to ignore the fact that my brother had already changed things on the phone and I was just going to try and follow a guide to root it and then put whatever ROM I wanted on. Apparently my phone was encrypted, and this needed to be changed before I could do anything so I tried to do a factory reset. When I did this, I ended up in TWRP, which is apparently installed and tried to do a factory reset in that. It prompted me to install Super User or something which seemed like an easy way to root so I said yes. The problem is, the phone never loads. I left it for a good 2 hours to do the factory reset, then it seemed it was not doing anything so I restarted and messed around more. The result is, it is just stuck looking like it's loading up (I assume that's called a bootloop).
So my question is how can I get this phone back into usable condition, I'm not fussed about finishing what I started necessarily, I just need a usable phone. There seems to be good news in that I can access TWRP (v2.8.6.1), which I guess would be useful if I knew how to use it.
Thanks for any help
EDIT/SOLVED: I managed to get it working by going into TWRP, wiping cache and dalvik, installing a new build of lineageos i had already downloaded, not installing superuser, wiping the cache and dalvik again, and rebooting system, and a fresh start of lineage finally loaded. Doubt that's relevant to many people but thought I'd share anyway.
