[Q] Manually activating S View mode on Note 4 - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, I'm new here but i was looking for an answer to a question that i have.
I bought a third party S View cover which resembles the genuine S View cover case. But it lacks the IC chip that would activate the S View mode on my Note 4. I did find out that this fake cover does have the magnet that can work to trigger the auto wake/sleep feature on the phone.
My question is that if there is any way to bypass Samsung's authentication of S View IC chip with/without rooting? I tried using third party apps that uses proximity sensor but they all look ugly and doesnt work nicely. I did some research and found this IC chip that works with third party cover for galaxy S5.

[Q] Disabling magnetic proximity 'S View' sensor

Hi,
Just wondering if anybody knows if there are any ROMs available which allow you to disable the magnetic proximity sensor, just below the volume down rocker on the S4?
I work in an aluminium smelter and in production areas, the magnetic fields are very high due to the high DC current (240kA) used in the smelting process. What this means is that my S4 is unusable as the magnetic field holds the 'S View' sensor in its closed position as though an S case is closed. i.e. the phone only displays 'S View' mode rendering it useless in production areas.

You can turn this off in settings>My Device>Accessory>S View Cover Automatic Unlock

I've tried this, but it doesn't disable the S View mode. Try yourself with a fridge magnet.
Use Elixir from the Play Store.
The S View cover does not use magnetic sensor. It uses proximity sensor.

Did elixir work?
I to am trying to get that magnet disabled.
At work so I can't try elixir.
There are actually 2magnets.
One by the volume and the other is by the sensors above the screen.

If you're willing to install Xposed I can make a quick module to disable S-View. However some apps like the phone app might still respond to it as they handle it themselves rather than using the framework. That shouldn't be too annoying though.
Edit: btw this is better suited as a kernel patch to disable the sensor rather than the S-View screen. That might slightly lower consumption and would work better, but for warranty reasons I can see why a kernel patch would be annoying.

Yes. Get a hold of a magnet, it has to be reasonabley strong, I found that a fridge magnet was not strong enough, and hold it close to the volume down button and move it about a bit and find the optimum position, I actually find the magnet flat against the back or front near vol. Down works best, just be careful of screen.

It's as close as you can get without disabling the sensor. I didn't hook into the phone so that might still show the S-View window, but that's no biggie. Also, the Smart Stay icon disappears, but hey, that can be a plus

getting everything installed now.
im a little worried about it working, im on CM so its not going to show the sview window at all.

nope its not working.

im pretty sure that sensor needs to be disabled. its causing the actual proximity sensor to be disabled which is why its causing me problems.

What exactly do you want to do? CM doesn't have S-View so this shouldn't be needed.

i bought an s View cover for my phone.
im using cm
i downloaded an app from the play store that mock sview because obviously cm doesnt have it.
the app used to proximity cover to determine if the cover is open or closed.
the app works flawlessly when i use my finger to cover the proximity sensor.
when i use the sview cover it doesnt work.
the sview cover some how disables the proximity sensor. i know this because i have other apps that use the proximity sensor and they dont work either when i use that cover...

Oh, then your problem is different from the OP's. I suggest contacting the devs so they monitor the magnet rather than the proximity sensor.
My module simply disables S-View on stock TW ROMs.

hi! I also have this strong magnetic field work area problem.i found this topic and tried to install your module.Thank you very much because its working.the s-view window has been disabled.But the problem is the touchscreen is still disabled or not functioning.Is there a solution to this?THANKS!!

I installed the module and the S-view is not shown, but the touch screen is disabled.
I use a magnetic car holder and every time I hang up the phone to it, the S-lock the screen view!
I don't know if it's possible, but it could be a great thing to change the phone's behavior when the magnetic sensor detects a magnetic field, for example, you can choose to put the phone in car mode.

You ever figured out anything on this? I got a magnetic car holder too and it's kinda annoying with the S-View popping up.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Sleep and Wake function

Hi I am very confused.
I bought 2 different cases for my girls friends Galaxy S4. One is working but does not have the S-window. The other has S-window but does not have sleep and wake function.
My questions is: How does the sleep and wake function been activated on the phone? Is it similar to an iPad where there must be a little magnet on the case to activate the function or is it purely activated by sensors on the Galaxy S4? Or other ways? I noticed the S4 has plenty of new features that uses its internal sensor so I am thinking maybe the sleep and wake function was implemented automatically as long as you get a flip cover case.
Anyone know?

Yes sview is activated by magnet. The sensor is close to the volume down button but more at the back of phone than the side.
You need a reasonably strong magnet, I found that a fridge magnet wasn't strong enough. Need stronger one.
P.s. The title of thread isn't quite right should be more like "how is S-view activated"

Any hack to simulate IC chip on the genuine SView case?

Hi guys,
You guys may know that the SView function only operate with the IC chip on the back of the SView case.
So my question is, is there any software hack/mod to simulate that IC chip, so that SView function will work with any magnet case?

There is an app in the market that simulates it using the sensors on the front of your device.
It's not perfect but not too bad.
There are also lots of copy cases with the S-View chips about now.

No, it's not what I mean.
I know the app that use the light/promixity sensor to auto lock/unlock screen.
My question is slightly different. Because the SView function use the magnet sensor to operate, and the IC is used to identify if the case is genuine. My question is how to simulate that IC chip, so that the magnet case can work without the IC.
This app is the closest you're going to get till it get improved.

Otherwise like someone mentioned, you can just buy a knock of one with IC chip and you can remove the IC chip and put it in the back of the phone or attach to the battery cover of the case you prefer. This is what I did.
To be honest even I'm not really a fan of the Sview. Very limited use. You can only check missed calls, read missed, text, play pause stop the default music player, write notes, and take square pictures. You can't respond to text, initiate calls, or run or control other apps. Wish it at least controlled pandora as I use that when I'm at the gym.

Locking Phone by closing case lid

HI Guys,
just a short question, i have my S5 placed in a Case wich covers the display completly if closed.
As i know from my new galaxy tab pro and a note 2, normaly if you close the lid the phone locks and turns of the display.
Now this isnt working on my S5. I've checked light and proximity sensor with the Service menu (*#0*#)
Seems to work.
Didn't find anything in the menu?
Am i blind ? or is this feature really missing? Or is something wrong with my phone?

This requires a magnet.. Maybe the case does not have a magnet. Or is improperly placed for the s5..

Screen On/Off with cover on SM-T510 ?

Hello guys,
I have bought the new Galaxy Tab A 2019 (SM-T510) with a tablet protection including a magnetic cover. But it seems that this tablet has no sensor to manage the on/off screen when opening or closing the cover... I have tried some apps like Easy Smart Cover and Smart Screen On/Off but none of them works... do you have any solution ? maybe you know a solution ? maybe an app which uses the front camera as sensor ?
Any news here?
