This Friday, the 21st of November, 2014, we'll be seeing updates to both the HTC One (M8) and the HTC One (M7) for Android 5.0 Lollipop. This is a bit of a delay compared to the original projected release date - early this week - but still jams in amongst the first in the industry to release such an update. At this time we're not entirely certain what the HTC One update to Android 5.0 Lollipop will entail, exactly, as it'll be the first in the industry to have more than just the basic Google-made Vanilla layout...

For the gpe, not for sense version
Exactly, I'm not using sense , I'm waiting gpe.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2940490
Hi, i'm currently on fully stock GPE but i'm not quite sure if this is official or not.
This is the RUU rom that i flashed : www htc1guru com/dld/ruu-zip-m7_google-edition_4-4_3-58-1700-5-zip/
with CID changed into : GOOGL001
and relocked bootloader.
Will the OTA (android 5.0) work for me tomorrow?
Why would you relock bootloader?
Either way, yes OTA should work indeed and seeing that you flashed what seems to be 4.4, so you should already get the OTA to 4.4.4.

Anyone waiting for GPE Lollipop update, it will not come this week i think.
Mo Versi say that google required HTC to take another Software spin.

Oh dear, cue the complaints about how evil HTC/Google are!
Think I'd rather wait and hopefully it will be even more bug free by release.

Well...crap! I sort of figured it was too good to be true with the delay pushed out to Friday (Today). I am going to be tied up this weekend anyway moving and sorting life out so won't miss the missed update much. But hopefully when things settle down a bit, it will be ready.
Having played around with Cyanogenmod's Lollipop version for the M7, I got a fairly good taste of it and liked it, but I honestly also felt a bit let down if that is really how 5.0 will be in terms of the Material design and such. (They seemed to keep that part intact) I know 5.0 is also very security centric and has a lot of under the hood improvements so that part I can't wait for but know that as long as bugs are squashed and it is stable.

Could be due to a critical SMS bug in Lollipop.

I don't really see HTC realeasing first m7 and then m8. People would complain that m8 should have it first since it's newer.

There are already 2 update for our phones thanks to Paul. Well it in not the update most of us were hoping for( the one with the amazing UI in the youtube videos) but still it is an update to the ones most of us have on the hero.
chek it out:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=552591
TBH, I would feel a lot more comfortable using the official ROM update from HTC. I am one of those "I'm too scared to ROOT my hero because its going to cause mid life crisis sooner than expected" kind of guys.

Umm you don't need to root your hero to install the ROM that was released. There was a rooted and non-rooted version..
We, the danes, got a mail from HTC. They say the ROM update will be at their site from 4td september.
I think its great
Are the ones that are out on the wiki the version that'll be released, or a pre/test version ? Anyone know ??
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hero
http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/291942/26-08-hero-roms-radios-in-update-zip-format/
There are no ROM's available for download that include the updated HTC software. The ROM from MoDaCo has been optimised by Paul and I believe is a little smoother as a result.
Paul has posted a video showing how the new HTC update improves the Hero but has not (sensibly I may add) released it to the public.
Patience I'm sure will be rewarded

did we really need a new thread stating what we already know?
just found this website saying the hero will get 2.1 sometime next month
http://www.brighthand.com/default.asp?newsID=16225&news=HTC+Hero+Android+OS+2.1+Upgrade+Droid+Eris
Although its showing a Sprint Hero pic, the rumored Hero update for March is for the Euro Hero, not for our Hero, for which, you can read this thread.
Sprint Tweet on 2.1 for Hero/Moment
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633985
We (Sprint users) won't see the update next month. Sprint has already said that they will release their update sometime in the 2nd Quarter (Apr-Jun). The delay is so that they can add/optimize their bloatware garbage that most of us end up uninstalling anyway...
Not like anyone is gunna unroot and update anyway besides well have it before Sprint even thinks about realeasing it maybe even bored of it lol

Pretty much everyone will unroot for 2.1. What makes you think people are going to stick with old roms or buggy 2.0+ when they can have the real 2.1? Im sure once some decent custom roms for 2.1+ start surfacing people will start using them but until then stock 2.1 > Rooted 1.5.
That said sprint has already officially said Q2 just a couple days ago. Regardless of what the rumor mills say no update next month.

I imagine that a lot of people will indeed wait until the XDA devs release their own 2.1 update. Many, if not most, will not upgrade to a new 2.1 official release if they don't know if it can be rooted.

I seriously doubt that anyone here (besides you) will unroot for the update. Why? Because the root hole will almost certainly be closed and may not be able to be rooted again. Eris owners still do not have root. That is something that most people here will not give up. When the update arrives, the incredible devs here will have it working "with" root within a couple of days and that is the route most will take.

Well to be honest, I am rooted and I will NOT be unrooting for 2.1. Matter of fact I will be running 2.1 sooner than sprint will be releasing it. But once they do, I will be running a customized 2.1 which will be better than Sprints simply because it will be optimized and without all the bloatware I don't want. There's no way I would want to give up having root. Just my 2 cents though.

Hahahaha, funny. No. Make a poll and ask "Who will unroot for 2.1" "Who will wait for custom 2.1" to get your answer. I know Ill be staying rooted until 1. a fully working custom ROM comes around or 2. root is still possible even after 2.1 OTA update.

Yeah, because it makes sense to stay with the old roms just for tethering and nandroid.
Its not like the iphone jailbreaking where undoing it loses all of your third party programs and customizations to the phone. The only real reasons to even root an android phone are tethering, backups and custom roms.
stock 2.1 > all of these custom roms. Unless you absolutely NEED tethering there is no plausible reason to stay with the old roms.
The majority of Hero owners will update as soon as they know about it.
However, the vast majority of users of this forum (and others) will wait to update until there's a complete custom ROM out for 2.1. It doesn't make any sense to update from an optimized custom 1.5 (or 1.6+) ROM to a stock 2.1 with some crappy apps added in, when you could wait for a few hours and get an optimized and custom 2.1 ROM.

I think there will be a few folks that will update, but most of the people on this forum ARE regulars, and I think they'll probably be patient and wait for a custom ROM before unrooting. The talent we've got in this community will get a custom ROM out very quickly anyway I imagine.

Realistically the first real working 2.1 rom will be at least a week after the official.

So why don't you put a 2.1 ROM on your phone in the meantime? There are loads of good ROMs recently released that are based on the Eris or Legend dumps. There are also loads of guides on how to root and how to flash. Thats what I've done and I am satisfied.
you didn't actually expect it to come in Mid March did you?
I've learnt to take these things with a pinch of salt, HTC are too busy pushing out new phones to be bothered with us early HTC adopters.
Play with some 2.1 ROMs in the meantime, althought quite why we need so many is beyond me. Devs should combine features instead of competing with each other.

I'm using behnaam's latest Legend ROM 1.3.1 and its ok for me at the moment - I haven't found any real bugs that stop me enjoying Android 2.1 until the official release.
But I'm afraid that no matter how much we complain here or to HTC, its not going to change anything. HTC will release the update when it is ready. If they feel a release needs to be delayed they will delay it. Threads like this will not change things.

HTC Sweden that says the Android 2.1 release is not “set in stone” and expect it “around April”
HTC have never set a release date in stone, and so we'll have to wait for them. As I said, no matter how much we complain, it won't change things.

Did you test the 2.1 roms that are out now? They are so much faster than stock 1.5, that's the main reason why I'm looking forward to the official release.
Calm down, they will release an update when finished. I don't think it's HTC who spread news on the Internet. It's people who spread rumors.
I really don't believe all the whining, what the hell?
1) It isn't even 'the middle' of March yet, if you're going to be day exact.
2) if someone _would_ say 'middle of march' I never _ever_ saw people starting to complain the moment the '15th' hit and the promised thing wasn't there. Must be something specific to Hero users I think.
3) The most official statement we ever got (and the only one, forgot all the 'february' crap rumours that started somewhere) said 'in march', not the middle. Regional Director HTC Benelux called it 'medio maart' in dutch, which translates to something like 'somewhere in march'.
I really can't believe the hate posting that starts _every_ _single_ _time_ again, primarily on XDA, but also on HTCPedia and MoDaCo. Do people have nothing better to do than wait for a software for their phones?!?

Actually, what this will mean is that we will be able to get a STABLE 2.2. The state of "cyanogen stable" is actually extremely unstable.
It would be nice to have an OEM 2.2 build just with a few extras... you know, the things that you actually use rather than just jamming in all the bling you can imagine.

You seem to be confused.
There are 2.2 "ports", based on the EMULATOR IMAGE that comes with the SDK. They don't work in even a marginally usable fashion though -- they're not even worth wasting 10 seconds on.

Honestly the black theme and the above mentioned is the only thing that is missing from the Official AOSP 2.2 OTA
There is a workaround using Titanium Backup however but would want a more streamlined approach to accomplish this.
I just took a look at Sprint's website and they now have EVO's shipping with 2.3, does this mean that we will be able to use the kernel that was used for those models to help out with developing roms with 2.3? Sorry if this was in the wrong place or if this information was known and not helpful.

The gal I just talked to from Sprint had no clue that the page were all looking at had been updated so.... She did get in touch with tech support for me, but they werent aware of any ota either. She suggested contacting HTC.

i have been in contact with HTC about the Gingerbread update and a new version of Sense.... here is what i have gotten so far from the HTC rep......
here was his first reply "I understand that you need to know when the update to the EVO 4G will be available. At this time, a release date has not been announced yet for any of our updates to 2.3. We also don't have any information as to whether the EVO 4G will receive an updated version of Sense, either. For the latest news, please keep an eye on www.htc.com/us and www.twitter.com/htc."
then he sent this "I apologize, I realized that in my previous email my wording didn't confirm that the Evo will be receiving an update to Android 2.3. This follow up is just to confirm that it is a when, not an if; it has been confirmed that the device will be receiving an update."
then i pushed him a little harder for more info and he replied with this "Thank you for your response. As stated in my first email, we don't at this point in time have a release timeframe for Android 2.3 for the EVO (or any of our devices). We want to get the updates out as soon as possible, but will not do so until we have thoroughly tested them and they are approved as ready by both ourselves and Sprint. In regards to an update to the Sense UI, this is completely independent of the ROM version. There's been no word on if the EVO will receive an updated version of Sense or even if Sprint has shown an interest in having it put on the phone. Thus for the latest news, please keep an eye on www.htc.com/us and www.twitter.com/htc."
then he sent this (kind of randomly i dont know why, and ENDED the conversation) "Thank you again for your reply. I'm concerned that only the notification that you have a response is getting to you but not the message itself. In your last two emails you have inquired as to when the Evo will be updated to 2.3 and if it is going to receive an update to the Sense UI. However, I did supply the only available response to that inquiry (thus my concern that the messages are not making it to your inbox for whatever reason). We don't at this point in time have a release timeframe for Android 2.3 for the EVO (or any of our devices). We want to get the updates out as soon as possible, but will not do so until we have thoroughly tested them and they are approved as ready by both ourselves and Sprint. yes, it would. for being a flagship device, it is the only one still stuck on Sense 1.0
sense 2.? would be SUCH AN IMPROVEMENT AND MUCH NEEDED!!!!!!
Funny . . you visit the HTC site and look at tech specs for Evo and it says Android Gingerbread for OS. . .
EDIT: Sorry, looked at Sensation specs thinking it was Evo . .
Yeah that was the first place I checked after seeing it shipping with 2.3 on Sprint's website. You'd think they would communicate, at least a little
wow this is weird. Sprint has updated info to soon b4, but to have both sprint and htc update info to soon is to much of a coincidence. So i'm thinking the ota should be hitting in the next couple of days
EDIT: ok looked all over the HTC site and see nothing saying android 2.3/gingerbread. So where are u guys seeing 2.3 on htc.com?
I did however see that at htc.com it says the EVO has OS 2.1 and at shopamerica.htc.com it says 2.2
