nexus 4 stuck at installing system update - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my wife's nexus 4, is stock, not rooted.
she accepted the lollipop upgrade that came... and since then her phone is stuck at installing system update for past few hours.
I have tried to restart the phone by holding onto power button for a while... it restarts and then gets stuck back at installing system upgrade.
Any suggestions?

Have you taken the data backup? If so try factory data reset. Also try downloading lollipop factory images and install.

Ok.. after few more restarts. . Going to the recovery menu and more restarts. .. the system once went ahead into boot animation... and then update worked from there on.
Not sure why it did not work before or why it worked after 10+ restarts. But my wife was so glad that she did not have to loose all pics and whatsapp messages.
Thanks for ur suggestion thought.

4.2.2. update stuck on rebooting now

Hey guys,
I'm on stock but with root. My phone doesn't reboot after the OTA update. Is this because I'm rooted?
Just to clarify - it's the system update app that doesn't work. It counts down to 0, then... nothing. Phone is usable, the updater doesn't reboot to update.
Same happened to mine (not rooted) I had to flash back to 4.2.1 and wipe data/cache to get my phone to start up. Then it ran the system update again and got stuck in the same loop. I'm sticking with 4.2.1 for now.

Just flash the whole 4.2.2 rom from here https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/occam-jdq39-factory-345dc199.tgz and reroot.

I did that, and go the same loop as when I did the OTA; I had to go find an archive of the 4.2.1 ROM and flash that to get it to start up (even flashing many times and wiping user/cache).
I'm going to try sideloading the 4.2.2 update when I have time
Thanks, I'll try that zip. Just to clarify - my phone isn't even installing the update. It's not stuck on the black Reboot screen, it's stuck on the countdown screen where you tap REBOOT & INSTALL. So essentially the phone is usable.. the updater just doesn't seem to work

That's not where mine is stuck, mine won't boot past the X logo
My Nexus 7 won't go past the "rebooting now" too. The tablet is usable but it never finishes the update. I have power cycled and started over but no luck. Is there a way to clear the update cache so it re-downloads the update?

Hiya! Did you ever find an answer?
I'm on 4.2.2 stock system for sph-l720, rooted, used triangle away and tried to get update 4.3 to install.
***Do I need to unroot to get samsung/sprint updates? The update keeps appearing but all progress from "android system update" stops after download verified, then the "rebooting now" step goes forever. Like OP, phone works fine, just wanted to update so I get best of newer apps, then back to customizing :fingers-crossed:

Immediate reboot after login right after 4.3 OTA upgrade

Was on 4.2.2 (rooted). Did an OTA upgrade to 4.3. Upgrade completed without incident. Tried to login and after entering my password, my Nexus 4 rebooted. This happens over and over. Even tried booting into safe mode. Always reboots instantly after I enter my password.
Any ideas or suggestions on how I can get out of this cycle?

If you do searches here on XDA you'll see that several of us had issues upgrading to 4.3 (me included).
If you created a Nandroid backup prior to upgrading to 4.3, I'd bring it back down to 4.2.2 (bootloader/radio) and flash the backup. After that you can create a backup in TiBu, flash 4.3 from the Google Developers page and restore your backup. It's not ideal but it seems to work better than the OTA update for a lot of people.
Edit: If you have a 16 GB Nexus 4, make sure that after you flash 4.3 it still thinks your phone is a 16 GB phone. Mine thought it was an 8 GB phone (registered something like 6 GB available after flashing stock 4.3). A factory reset within Android can fix this -- just something to look for before you reload all of your apps with TiBu.

I would do a factory reset. When your phone is off press and hold volume down and power till your are in boot loader mode.select restart recovery. You should the android laying on the back. From there press and hold volume up plus power button. Select factory reset. Done. Hope this helps and boots up your device.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. Ended up doing a factory reset. Then I ran into the security settings crash which prevented me from installing apps outside of the playstore or setting a complex password. Fortunately, found a fix for that here:

No reason bootloop

Hey guys, let me start off by telling you I was running stock 12b rooted with the 1.5 Furnace kernel. Been running that for 2 weeks solid, no problems. I added 2 Xposed modules last night, swiftkey something and the one to remove the "full battery notification". I rebooted last after enabling them and the phone was fine. Charged phone last night, took it off charger (working fine) and decided to reboot it. Big mistake! It just bootlooped. It would start for 10 seconds, no wifi no data and then restart. I honestly did nothing......
I got into recovery and tried to restore my nandroid backup but same issue. Right now I am flashing 12b from the LG Flash Tool. Will that fix it? Is there another way?
Thanks for all your expertise
Tried to use the LG Flash Tool and it didn't work. Anyone got any ideas how to get my phone to stay working? It boots, for 10 seconds then reboots
If you think it's something to do with xposed why not flash the xposed disabler zip in recovery? Also have you tried a simple wipe of cache and dalvik?

I finally got the Flash tool to work and got 11a loaded on. So now I am fully stock and unrooted. But, the phone keeps rebooting. Doesn't make any sense. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a similar problem when restart the phone gets in bootloop. when the phone is operating normally burst without rebooting or any other problems. I'm all factory on it's still 802 10b and does not offer me the option to update the phone. I think it's a software error I have a warranty but I can not wait 30 days to fix my phone

Any luck fixing this? I Have the exact same issue with my ls980(Sprint Variant). I've flashed multiple roms, kernels, and radios with no luck. Used LG Flash tool and it always fails at 94%( when it reboots the phone). However, my phone does say unrooted afterwards. I've also tried wiping all data/ factory reset. No luck.... The phone comes on and doesn't recognize any touch for a long time. Finally, it unlocks, and reboots minutes later. No apps or widgets work. The phone only stays on for so long because I turned on the stay always awake option in developer options. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, I did not find a solution. Amazingly, the only rom that would load was Madallus so that is what I am running. You could try that and see if it will load.

Dead N9

My n9 died today. I've been having a few wonky issues and today I tried to restore a nandroid. Bootloop city! Flashed the factory image, factory reset, clear cache in stock recovery, bootloop!
RMA here I come.
Edit, hmm the device won't turn off! Just keeps rebooting. Is the n9 going to have power button issues like other nexus devices?
Sunken ditch if 5.0, lrx21r, firmware didn't boot up!
Gone wonky again, get process com Google.process.gapps has stopped error. Over and over again. She's a goner!

If you can boot into O/S then you just need to factory reset. That is all.
I can get it to run. But it's done so much random weird stuff lately that I'm going to rma it. I'm going to guess there's occasional errors writing to the emmc.

Nexus Bootloop (tried flashing and wiping)

Hi,
I have a rooted nexus 6p, all was well until it decided to reboot and boot-loop when I opened my music app. I get as far as the white Google logo then the phone restarts and I'm back to the normal warning then Google logo then reboot.
I have managed to get into the recovery screen (with the android laying down) but when i choose recovery mode the phone just starts boot-looping again.
I am wondering if I have somehow managed to hard brick it?
I have tried to flash the latest OS onto my phone but it said no signature.
I did managed to wipe the device also.
Thanks for any help.
Are you on Nougat or still on MM? Since you're rooted, it means you didn't receive an OTA. Did you flash it yourself, originally?

When my phone started playing up I was still on MM 6.0.1, I tried to flash N after the boot-looping started.
Thanks
