Life with a phablet - Nexus 6 General

I currently run a Droid Maxx and it is the largest phone I can operate with one hand.
It fits OK in some front pockets and tight in others(for my wardrobe).
How do you deal with these huge phones? I am a dude and not carrying a purse.
I hike, bicycle, ride motorcycles, and drive a lot for work. I also have an infant which I carry a lot and the Nexus 6 may be a chore to one hand.
This phone is borderline "gotta have" material.
How do you folks keep these phones without damaging/dropping, or bending/breaking in a pocket, etc.?

Basically.. You'll have to put your phone > then your kid.
Seriously though.. You just have to be careful. If you're having issues now with a 5" phone then yeah.. 6" isn't for you.

I would not use my phone if I were carrying an infant, even if I could use it one-handed. It's just not necessary.
And for the pants, well, stop buyin pants that are too tight?
Or like the last guy said, get a smaller phone.
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk

Other than making a quick phone call, your device should only be used when you have two hands free. This is why drivers are causing dangerous situations and sitting still at green lights. Smart phones take not only your hands, but your concentration and focus. Use them only when you are able to leave your focus from other activities. Voice features are improving, but still cause you to refocus your attention. I typically use my GS3 4.7" phone two handed all the time.

Well... you just have to be careful. Limit your multitasking, don't try to operate the phablet when your both hands aren't free.
Also, I always buy pants with wide and deep pockets, lol

I currently have a Note 3, with average sized hands in my opinion. And I have no problem using my phone one handed while doing other things. If I want to type a lot, it is more comfortable to use both hands. Other than that, I don't mind using it one handed at all. If you support the bottom of the phone with your pinky, as I occasionally do, it can uncomfortable on that finger.

been using a launch day htc one max which is about the same size for a year and i love it. the screen real estate alone is worth the price of admission.
the phone is not so big you cant use it. once you pick it up and flick around with your finger, you will wonder how you made it this long with out a larger device.
everyone i know with the large iphone was nervous as you are--now they love it and can't go back to a smaller device.

You adapt. I love Phablets.
Had Note 1&2....
Then...6"4 Sony Ultra Gpe which I adore.
Also have Huawei Ascend Mate 2 (same size as N6.
No problems pocketing, or one handed operation actually.

I am waiting on Droid Turbo Dev edition but the Nexus 6 is also right there.
I miss the 64gb Nex 6 every time so far.

Ive had a note 3 for about a year and its a love hate relationship. When i have gym shorts on the phone is so heavy it literally is slowly pulling my pants down as i walk lol. So i usually have to put it in my backpack. With jeans i dont wear skinnys but theyre not baggy either and sitting with it in my pocket is uncomfortable i usually take it out of ny pocket and put it on the table. Although surfing the web and any multimedia on a phablet is just such a pleasure and i just cant go back to a normal sized phone. I even sold my tablet and never looked back.
Edit: i bought an armband for my note 3 for running/cycling but it is just rediculously big. Had to buy a garmin forerunner and an ipod

Don't your shorts have a drawstring?
-- Really though, I'm kind of in the same boat as most people with being worried about the size of the N6. I have a Moto X 2013 and love the form factor, but hate the battery life. My bootloader is unlocked, so I could just wait it out for Lollipop and see if the battery fares any better, but I'm not thinking it will be enough of an improvement.
I plan to visit a few non-VZW carrier stores this week (nearest T-MO store told me they'd have a display on Wednesday) to see one up close and see what happens.

Not everybody can handle 6 inches.
Seriously, this phone is just designed for inappropriate jokes.

True. I don't have a place to fit this gargantuan tool like a woman does: a purse!

Nexus 6 is easily manageable...Easy.
It is RARE that any first time note users returned them because of its size.

I think obviously the Nexus 6 is going to be too large for some people (perhaps myself included), but you just have to try it and give it a chance for a couple months to find out.
I remember worrying about the size of the Nexus One, compared to my Nokia N86 that preceded it, and then worrying about the size of the Nexus 4 compared to the Nexus One. Now those concerns seem silly and those former devices seem tiny. I can't believe the number of iPhone 5 users who still complain (having not tried it) that the iPhone 6 is too big for one handed use--basically all of the iHerd says this. Seriously, they think a 4.7" screen is too big, even though it's thinner and not as wide as the Nexus 4. I personally hate one handed use, but when I need to it's easy to do on the Nexus 4.
Of course there are limits to the constant progression in size. And each of my larger devices was also thinner than the last, which went a long way to mitigating the size, while this will not be true with the Nexus 6. But you probably won't know your own personal limit, until you exceed it. Just holding the phone in a store is not good enough, because it will seem huge at first.
I think if you want the Nexus 6, just get it. If it turns out to have been a mistake, then you'll know your limit and can do something different next time or sell it and get a Moto X (or whatever they're calling that Verizon thing, the Moto Craxx?).

I predict humans will soon evolve to grow progressively longer and longer opposing thumbs and permanently crooked over necks to accommodate their incessant need to stay glued to their devices as they grow larger. We might even see an eye develop in the palm so people will be able to text and drive without ever looking away from the road.

tempted to get an iphone..

Build quality is superb, video is amazing, I feel like my evo will disintegrate within 6months.. I never had ATT but i'm sure I will hate them but I'm not much of a talker or texter.. I just like to browse the net on my phone, upload some videos on facebook/youtube,listen to my music and play a few games..
i feel my evo is consuming my life with all these new roms and such, I have very little self control, instead of focusing on school work im obsessing over the next new hack for my 002 novatec, or when I can upgrade to an 003,.. I think I need to dumb it down and get an iphone lol
Disintegrate?
Does the Evo really feel that cheap in your hands?
And, for goodness sake, glass on the BACK of the phone? Yikes.
Go get the iPhone then, no one is going to stop you but yourself. To me it sounds more like your into the most popular phone atm then anything else.

I really don't get a cheap feel with the Evo ... design / material / quality wise.
Just because the iPhone has glass (OMGhana) all these people seem to think that it's all high end. Maybe I don't want glass. Maybe I have too much glass in my life. Christ. I digress. It's all a matter of what best suits the user.

The EVO's front is amazing. But I have to say, the back could have been improved upon, no offense. I'm an HD2 owner, and I'm sure you can understand why I say what I say.

well its the screen separation (screen is sinking! barely push against it and it sinks in itself, affects accurate touch operations) and the flimsy backcover that makes a squeeky noise now when I hold it, the kickstand as well is making a noise, wheres the WD-40! sorry I didn't clarify this.
Yeah I can agree on that, not a big fan of the camera sticking out. Nothing a case can't fix though.

The monthly bill will be a lot more then what you pay now (unless you can get a good discount). Don't forget that AT&T got rid of their Unlimited plan so....I hope you can keep it under 2 gigabytes or you will have to pay a fee.
Either way...your best bet is to do your own evaluation with them and their network. To each his own, but I wouldn't go back!
Truth be told there are things about the Evo that I don't necessarily "love." The shape of the back case, which I know is what it is for a reason.
In terms of the iPhone ... I'll admit to liking the newer design in terms of it being more "Squared" and flatter. Didn't like the rounder previous iPhone's, which is something I sort of see with the Evo but since it's a bit "thicker" it works. But it's still a sharp looking device, for whatever that's worth. Not to suggest the Evo isn't.
Held the iPhone 4, and yes, it does have that "feel and look" but it didn't necessarily sit in my hands, landscape mode (as that's how I'm usually holding the phone), as comfortably as my Evo did. I like the little bit of heft and size you get with the EVO, in the end it just felt more comfortable.
The new iPhone does look cooler than last generations ... but it's still a got damn iPhone.

My neighbor let me play with her iPhone for a little bit and imo, I hated the feel of it in my hand. I was more of a fan of the rounded back. The phone was fast but nothing that made me feel amazed. Overall I didn't feel like it was a worthy upgrade over the 3gs, but again I'm not a big Apple fan. For those that like/love the iPhone/Apple I'm sure you like it though.

The things that keep me from getting an iphone again are:
No flash, I love watching flash on fail blog or assorted sites
No .wmv player. One off my favorite sites puts up their videos in that format
No widgets. Going in and out if programs for basic info gets old.
Small screen. After the evo I don't think I can go under 4 inches.
Email attachments are handled fairly ****ty on the iphone especially if the device doesn't recognize them. I can download anything through the gmail.com site.
Notifications suck on the iphone. Not a total deal breaker for me but still on the list.
No swype.
I don't get it with people. It's like they have to come in and justify why they buy or not buy a phone. Do you do the same with your car, home, clothes?
Do you tell your friends I am buying a Honda now that my Ford's build quality isn't what I like. No offense to Ford owners
The Iphone's build quality is not all that - i think you have read some of the reviews. It's slick I will give them that. But once you put a case on it how does it feel now?
There are already signs of them getting scratched up. Once you put a thicker case on it guess what? It's not a sleek and small as you once thought it was. No different from the EVO. I put on my case and I see all screen.
You put on the bumpers to the Iphone 4 and you see all screen.
I don't care what phone anyone gets. I don't get into the fanboy fight either way. I like what I like and I buy it. Android happens to be my OS of choice and the EVO my phone. Windows Phone 7 will be my next phone as well. If the Iphone came in a 4" or larger screen I would have considered it. BUT...this forum and these developers and people are the real reason so many of us are into these phones the way we are.
I am sure the HD3 will be pretty slick. I can almost guarantee you that if the design concepts comes close to the real deal that it will be amazing.
Just so you guys know Ive read quite a few posts complaining about light leaking on the iphone 4 aswell. If thats what causes your gripes on building quality you may be disappointed with the iphone as well.
On top of that the iphone shatters when dropped from little over a foot. My evo has already survived a nastier one from waste height.

I have minor screen separation that I only noticed when I saw a mention of it while floating around. Yes, I admit the screen is coming up on mine. Lower left, gives a little bit of light leakage. But no one would notice it unless I pointed it out to them. Or they're already aware of the issue and they looked to see ... I don't really see the sinking thing. I feel like the screen seems pretty solid actually. Does this have anything to do with the folks talking about different displays or whatever? I dunno ... cause I definitely don't feel like my screen "sinks" when I man handle it.
I don't get a squeaky noise ... is this a sweaty hands to surface squeak?
My kick stand doesn't make a noise ... but it does get warm when I'm maxing my phone out .... as far as a noise I cannot honestly say I've heard this.
Remember to hold the iPhone 4 correctly.
With your fingertips.
I blame my ISP.
Sorry for the double post.

I totally get what you are saying. I almost felt that holding the phone vertically felt alright ... but sitting horizontally I wasn't entirely feeling it.
Although I should admit that there are some other phones out there that are entirely MORE uncomfortable. It's a matter of preference, I know, and even with that a lot of folks throw cases and what not on. I do not, so that's something I would be forced to get used to. Not cool.
Especially if forced to rock a bumper ... I would cry.
Well ... here ya go - no squeaky kickstand issues;
And to think everyone was laughing at the kickstands .... it just makes sense.
Who laughs now!!1! Who laughs now!

Onnia 7 QC issues?

(why is there no omnia 7 forum?)
I've just been told by t-mobile that the Omnia 7 has QC issues and their deliveries yesterday were returned to their suppliers, anyone know what these might be?
I just picked one up today from Orange!.. I wonder if mine is affected
I heard from vodafone store that their delivery of LG Optimus (Win7) came in and had to be recalled immediately without sale due to a bluetooth issue.
The build quality of the Omnia is one of the things that worries me after reports like this and the issues with the Galaxy series.
Evilanglic, since you now have your hands on one, what are your impressions of the device? Does it seem solid?
Much more solid than I was expecting. I thought it would feel like a light plastic shell like the Samsung Galaxy S.
It really is very nice, no creaks, just a solid slab of deep black technology! Good times.
The back is actually wrapped in metal to the edge of the screen on the sides, it is only the top and bottom of the device which are solid plastic sort-of-cap/ends of the device.
You definitely can't call it a unibody (or can you?..) but as I say... sort of mostly 'wrapped' in a sheet of metal.
It was a close call between the (SAMOLED) Omnia and the (very nice crisp LCD) HTC Mozart, the latter fits the hand better of course due to size, but in the end the slick all black face of the Omnia, adorned with its high contrast SAMOLED screen, just made it worth it despite the low actual PPI!
It would have been nice if the rockers and camera buttons where more metallic or... metal, but instead they are old school black plastic. They work well nonetheless.
The home button is also not the most premium of push switches (compared to iPhone of course) but it is nice to have a soild key!
I would urge you to get both of these devices side by side in the store if you can, but be careful because it took me at least 20 minutes to tell the man which one I wanted to take out lol...
Here are a few pics of the construction as links:
I'm jealous. I have about 2 weeks before WP7 comes out in the US. That and you guys got the better selection of phones (minus Micro SD expansion). I am definitely getting the Focus though. Best choice out of the options available in my opinion.

Yeah. I wont touch a single Samsung phone after the trouble the Vibrant gave my stepmom. It's not fun trying to give tech support to someone 1500 miles away, over the phone with the issues, to a lady with no clue about technology.
EDIT: It reminded me of the time I had to help someone with Windows ME. They didn't know where the "desktop" was! As you can imagine, that was a loooooong phone call.

I've owned a few samsungs in the past (years ago lol), and they didn't give me any trouble. I suppose it was before the major smartphone race of the the last few years though haha.
I only went for the Omnia after holding it myself, there was no way I was going to order a Samsung phone without getting into a store and exploring it - but it was more solid than expected.
Hopefully if there are any support problems in the future, I will just take it to the high street store I got it from and play super dumb and demand a replacement or different phone lol... no harm done.
It seems like a negative thing to say but keep in mind that the phone really is good right now, no problems at all, everything works perfectly so far.
Note for those not in the know: the location based issues of Android Samsungs are not present here! On maps it focuses down with GSM triangulation and GPS pinpoint kicks in a couple of seconds later, super speedy!
Well that's a relief. I suppose the biggest factor that makes it feel so much better is that it's got some metal, right?
Mine's just arrived.
First impressions are very good. It feels very sturdy with no creaks and the metal casing is nice. It feels much more solid than my HTC Blackstone, although I am worried about such a large screen getting damaged!
It's going to have to stay off whilst the sim card registers. Annoying wait ahead!

I was reading conflicting reviews on the Mozart's camera and since I mainly use my mobile for web browsing the extra screen acres sold it for me.
The screen quality is awsome by the way. The device also looks way better in the flesh. It seems it may also have Cornings gorilla glass which would be a welcome addition!

For web browsing I might have thought it possibly more comfortable to use the Mozart's SLCD with RGB pixels (higher subpixel count) if you have good eyes that is lol.
I just cant get over how amazing the 4" SAMOLED looks though...
Because of the all black screen surround, and the nature of the WP7 text laid out to the edge of the screen, it sort of looks like your phone is just one massive display, which a lot of it is... lol
The blacks of the SAMOLED just merge with the black surround! So cool.
Where does the screen end?! lol

I am a happy omnia 7 owner. Just like what the other said, solid construction, beautiful screen.
But the build in app is sub-par (vs lg optimus) and I hope I don't regret choosing a device with 8GB of storage.
Cheers
A user over on MoDaCo forums is reporting that their T-Mobile account manager has told them that the Omnia 7 has been temporarily pulled due to software issues.
I've been waiting on one of these for some time as well, and was told today that their most recent update for handset stocks (issued internally today) did not include a new batch of Omnia 7s. The CSR I spoke to wouldn't be drawn on any specific problems with the handset, except to say that "there have been a few issues" with the ones we've received, and that I would be receiving a call in due course to let me know when mine would be delivered.
Does anyone else know anything about this?
gcaw - apparently they have dispatched Omnia 7's now on T-mobile, so I'd get on the phone ASAP.
risq - many thanks for letting me know about that. As it happens, fifteen hours after I'd made my previous post, I received a call from T-Mobile to let me know that they had stock and confirming delivery later today, but I'm grateful that you informed me of that - and hopefully others will have taken note of that information and successfully placed orders themselves.
I was also pleased to hear from the CSR (the same one I spoke to yesterday) that T-Mobile is extending the same deal to new Omnia 7 owners as it offers to Android buyers, giving 3GB of monthly data usage at no additional cost, rather than the standard 1GB offered under the fair usage policy for other handsets.
Compared with the rather pitiful 500MB offered on O2's contracts, that's a pretty awesome deal.
QC seems top notch!
Posted this on another forum. I'm happy about the build:
Well it had to happen sooner or later, in under a week I've dropped the Omnia 7 while lazily trying to hit snooze just moments ago (typing this message with my phone now lol). Dropped from about table height, and while it was dark, sounded like it landed on a corner first... Picked it up in the dark and dropped it again, this time hitting face flat on the ground.. My floors got a wood finish on top of a normal concrete slab so its pretty solid. Shocked and not feeling so lazy anymore, turned lights on, inspected phone, and absolutely no scratches to be seen...i think this is due to the matte looking polycarbonate plastic they use, plus the color looking like its been amalgamated with the actual plastic, I say this because I remember on my htc touch HD the bezel would scratch/chip so easily because all it was was some cheap paint over plastic/metal? As for glass, i read it's gorilla glass, whether or not it is, I'm glad it isn't scratched... My screen protector can't come soon enough,
Either way, I'm glad to know the Omnia7 is a solid beast . Though in truth, after dropping it, my excitement and feelings of it being a new toy has slightly washed off... My feeling now is 'it might be damaged somewhere'

[Q] Best way to carry this thing

So there are some people that talked about this in other forums but it is related to a 7" tablet and not the 10" tablets.
I am used to carrying my phone (DInc) with me everywhere and I keep it in my pocket and don't have to think about it unless I need it. Occasionally I bring my laptop places but I have a large laptop case which is a pain to lug around.
I bought this so that I have all the greatness of my phone on a larger screen but now I have the problem of how to I carry this thing around. It is obviously too big for my pockets but if I'm going to have a big bag I might as well carry my laptop.
Has anyone found a good way to carry this around so that your hands are free but it doesn't look like you are carrying around a purse?
Backpack, messenger bag, briefcase, sports tote, duct tape....
Is this a serious question or am I being trolled?
I went into bestbuy yesterday with the intention of buying a 10.1, right. I played with it for a while and while it was miles lighter than the Xoom, I sort of wished it was as portable as the Playbook, which I played with as well. In the end, I walked out not buying because of the reason you bring up. If I'm going to be leaving this at home since it's not as convenient to lug around then I have a $500 email-and-web-browsing-on-the-toilet toy really.
I remember when I had the 7" Tab, it was a joy to carry around cause it fit my pockets quite well. To me I think the 7" is the sweet spot really. I saw the Flyer but it is ridiculously priced at $500, so not interested.
Dilemma..
This is a serious question. This probably should be under the forum for accessories and not general but here it is.
I know a lot of people with nooks and kindles, but those people are also women that carry around a purse. I know there are some jackets with big pockets however it is summer now and I am not going to wear a jacket when it is 90+degrees out. A backpack or messenger bag just seem too big an bulky to carry everywhere and I bought this because of it being thin and light. If I was going to strap a heavy contraption to cover/carry it, then I would have gotten a xoom.
I love using this at home, in bed, on the couch and on the toilet but I feel awkward leaving the house with it. I will also check out what people have been using for their iPads but I would like to know if anyone out there have found a good solution for carrying this around on a daily basis while not looking like a tool/girly man/hippster.
I carry mine with my hands~!
HEY OH!!!!!!!!!
I probably will not be out and about with mine too much. I got it to go along with my laptop. I love my laptop, but it tends to get warm after extended use, is somewhat heavy trying to go from room to room throughout the house, continuous fan noise, and ok battery life.
This device allows me to roam freely throughout the house, has great battery life, and zero fan noise.
If I happened to go out in public with it, I'd carry it in a slim case. I'd most likely have to do the same if I had 7" tab as well. Since my Android phone can pretty much do everything a Tab can do, I pretty much rely on it while out and about. I grab my tab when I return home for browsing the web & doing other tasks with a much larger screen display.

Since I got my iPad on launch day, I've been carrying it around in a small leather messenger bag I got from the UK. I don't take it with me everywhere I go, mainly just work, so it works out. The bag is designed to snuggly fit a 15" laptop, so it isn't very big. Perfect for what I use it for; iPad, cables/accessories, camera, phone, etc. May not be the best solution if you are looking to carry this with you 24/7 though
Edit: Here is the bag I am talking about on eBay

I think a sleeve would work best. Although, it feels awkward carrying it around

I might have to get one of those.... Really nice.. Now we all sound like a bunch of chicks at a purse shop. I want that bag. Right now I'm just carrying in my leather zipper portfolio. I haven't received either of the 2 cases I bought for it yet.
current backpack: http://www.amazon.com/OGIO-Politan-...rel&qlEnable=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1308860365&sr=1-47
i actually got this with a recent purchase of the special edition of Infamous 2 for the PS3 and it works ideal to hold the keyboard, tablet and w/e else I want to bring to work separate compartments and all
its a single arm sling messenger backpack
There is no way you can carry a 10 inch tablet without a bag and both hands free. It just won't fit into pockets. I don't mind carring a small (12 ' x 7 ') messenger bag, but that's me.
Maybe wait for the 8.9 which supposedly will fit in a suit or blazer pocket, but if you're a jeans and T guy, then 7 is all that will work.
After doing a little searching on iPad bags I came across this one http://www.amazon.com/STM-Jacket-Laptop-Screens-Black/dp/B003FMU320/ref=lh_ni_t
It doesn't cost that much, says it only weighs 3.2Oz(which I will believe when I see), a slight bit larger than the tablet itself and has a side compartment that will hold the charge cable and my phone.

OMG, that is one sexy man-purse.
I think this is a perfectly reasonable question.
I think you're going to have to compromise a bit on this one. I don't think there is anything you will be able to do to give the 10.1" tab even the portability of the original 7" let alone a smartphone like the Dinc. I was able to stick it into my front pocket on my hoodie today, but though it fit perfectly fine (at least from the tablet's point of view, it was a bit awkward walking about with something that big in there.
For me, it's not a big issue because I can just leave it tucked into the pocket on the rear of the passengers seat in my truck if I'm out and going to somewhere where I won't need it, or otherwise leave it at home. But I realize that's not always an option for some people.
One book-style case I've seen includes storage for cash and credit cards on the side opposite of the screen, which might be useful if you wanted to take the tablet with you everywhere you go. But for me, most situations where I wouldn't want to have to hold my tablet are situations where my phone is more than sufficient, so no biggie for me.

That is so small though that it will look like a purse.
I'm hoping it won't look like a purse. If it does, then I might try out one of the following but they too all might look like purses.

Okay, maybe not that comfortable. I'm thinking of a compact messenger style bag... something along these lines.

I doubt the 8.9 would fit in most suit jacket pockets - my GT7 does fit, but it doesn't leave a whole lot of space.

Plastic back slowly getting looser

So I've owned the tablet for over a week now. I like it. However the plastic backing around the microSD slot has slowly become loose and now holding the device feels like cheap plastic. I don't access the port at all, save the one time i put the sd card in.
Anyone else noticing this build issue?
I'd exchange it if it really bothers you. Mine is snug.

I got the official one. While it may not be worth $50 I like it well enough and it protects from the "everyday". I've never dropped a tablet so I'm not worried about drops.

The Samsung cover, does it stay closed on the screen just by weight, or do the magnets actually keep it closed?

I have same problem same area since day 1. Went to exchange, all sold oit! Other 2 problems are lightbleed and loose micro usb port.
maybe you provide us with an image to better describe the situation
Well. It is quite plasticy
I have mine over a week now, and haven't felt it loose. You should trade it mate. I like the bezel of the tab but the plastic is really annoying. There are quite a few cases out there though...

I got mine a few days ago and I must say I quite like it! The only build issue I have is a somewhat remarkable amount of light bleed along the bottom but it doesn't bother me enough to post a pic of it. Best buy only had one case that didn't look very good so I'm still sporting the protective back covering till more cases are in stock. I have high hopes for this!
I am on my 3rd Note trade in. It finally is not loose next to the sdcard. I told them I expect near Perfection if I Pay 400 for an 8 inch tablet!

It really should be of better build quality for $400. Or it should be at least $100 cheaper. I have the 10.1 and it feels OK, not terribly cheap but not of high quality. I will be putting it up on eBay and going to the 8.0 regardless, due to it being a more pragmatic size for my day to day use. I’m just waiting on the black version.
I had this problem as well. I replaced it at best buy and haven't had a problem with the new one.

Sure the build quality could be better but I haven't had a single issue with mine since I bought it on release day. From the reports here it seems like maybe some of them are not as solid as others.

Obviously they are not "all the same" since some owners are reporting here that there are no issues with theirs. I think most people are going to use some type of case with this, so IMO it's not too much of an issue. Of course I would like to see better build quality, but I don't think it's that bad. I agree that the plastic back is too shiny/greasy/slippery/nasty, but then again most people are going to put it in a case.
You can get a good sense of the build quality by checking out the display units at Best Buy (if you live in the U.S.). These things are handled by tons of people and kids each day who treat them with little respect because they don't have any personal investment in them. You can always tell which products on display have subpar build quality.
And Really? It was too thick for you? How much thinner do you want it? There won't be any room for the battery if it's thinner, or for the S-Pen silo/dock. I'd rather have a bit longer battery life and a secure place to store my S-pen rather than a thinner tablet. The weight, thickness, and balance in the hand are the best I have experienced in this general size.

Oooooooo magnets Are bad man. Not so much for regular phones but for phones with stylus and digitizer it will over time cause dead area s on your screen. Don't believe me ?
Head over to the note 2 forums and check out all the problems with cases involving magnet clasps. If got so bad the companies offered to replace your magnet sealing case with one with a simple button in stead. I had one and as soon as I put it on I started having problems with the area around that magnet.
Just stay away from magnetic cases period. Just trust me. Or mess up big time. Once that part of the screen gets borked its borked
That pic is the replacement one with the button they sent me. Also watch out for those magnetic kickstand cases. Big no no too those utilize neodymium!

It's not the battery life, by itself, that bothered me, it's what happens when the battery gets old and it can't go even one day... All that said I love the idea and the look, so if people get it and start reporting a solid 24 hrs, I'll pick one up.
I believe its a technology of future came at present just like smart tvs. Not worth for now, also cost is too high to consider.

Yes.
I'm in even though I swore I wouldn't be. Here's my rationalization (to myself):
A lot of early reviewers said you had to touch the display or side button to turn it on. GSMArena confirmed you can activate it by shaking it using the accelerometer.
I'm getting a Note 10.1 2014 which also works with Gear so I can use it as a second phone when I want/need to. My N3 will be a carrier version and the N10.1-14 an unlocked Octa. So when traveling I can use SIMs from other carriers in my tablet if I can’t use them in my phone.
Tech is a hobby. I've wasted as much money on things of more questionable value so the Gear, even though it's pricey, will make me smile.
Samsung's got a lot riding on wearables so I'm hoping the Gear evolves quickly with updates and third party apps. Or it could be replaced by the Gear 2 a couple of months after I buy it. You spin the wheel and take your chances.
I really want to use it as an alternate to a BT headset. If the calling features on it suck I might end up returning it. But I’ll probably be unable to undo my other rationalizations.
Google Glass and Gear are not in the same category. You can where a watch anywhere at just about any time.
There are a lot places where you are restricted from actively using a phone where looking at a watch to get info would be rather benign, work during meetings, school, gyms, at many retail work places etc... Most of those would not allow wearing Google Glass ...
Even if you don't get one of the standout colors (red for example) it is pretty obvious you are wearing them when you have them on.

Where what kind of watch you are wearing would not get a second glance.
I can see retail locations asking you to remove your Google glasses as well which would not think for a second about the watch you were wearing and would not care if you had your phone in your pocket as well.
At $300, not really interested... but if I found one for in the $100 range, I might pick one up to play with one (Gear that is).

Really a shame that Glass is considered a threat to privacy, almost solely because it has a camera (it's not like the Gear doesn't have one). In terms of categories, they kinda are the same. They are both wearable accessories that extend the experience of a device. The Gear being much more limited. Being around the same price, I just don't see the Gear being something (most) people would want or would use.
I believe once Glass becomes popular (not necessarily in its first iteration) stores will come to accept it, as they have with phones.
I just can't get down with the google glass in general. It looks so ridiculously stupid on the wearer. If its ever adapted into sunglasses or even prescription glasses I'll consider them. But not until then....

Not that I have cash to burn nor do I like wasting it, but I get 14 days to decide IF I like GG or not and if not I return it. But after reviewing the features and benefits I think it will offer some value to me. But hey its not like I haven't had 7 phones this year already.

They do have sunglasses. They come with lenses. To me, no, the look isn't flattering. But think about ALL the tech going into it, and the amount of work it took to shrink it to that size. It looks beautiful (IMO) from a tech standpoint, exactly as I pictured it would.
Also, that patent that Google just made for Glass on a pair of glasses.

I can see what your saying as far as how it looks from a tech stand point. I just prefer something less... intrusive. Thats the reason I love the gear. It just seems like it fits. Nothing awkwardly standing out or shouting to the world "look at me".
Yes for the phone, no way for the watch, it is just a gimmick imho.
