So there are some people that talked about this in other forums but it is related to a 7" tablet and not the 10" tablets.
I am used to carrying my phone (DInc) with me everywhere and I keep it in my pocket and don't have to think about it unless I need it. Occasionally I bring my laptop places but I have a large laptop case which is a pain to lug around.
I bought this so that I have all the greatness of my phone on a larger screen but now I have the problem of how to I carry this thing around. It is obviously too big for my pockets but if I'm going to have a big bag I might as well carry my laptop.
Has anyone found a good way to carry this around so that your hands are free but it doesn't look like you are carrying around a purse?
Backpack, messenger bag, briefcase, sports tote, duct tape....
Is this a serious question or am I being trolled?
I went into bestbuy yesterday with the intention of buying a 10.1, right. I played with it for a while and while it was miles lighter than the Xoom, I sort of wished it was as portable as the Playbook, which I played with as well. In the end, I walked out not buying because of the reason you bring up. If I'm going to be leaving this at home since it's not as convenient to lug around then I have a $500 email-and-web-browsing-on-the-toilet toy really.
I remember when I had the 7" Tab, it was a joy to carry around cause it fit my pockets quite well. To me I think the 7" is the sweet spot really. I saw the Flyer but it is ridiculously priced at $500, so not interested.
Dilemma..
This is a serious question. This probably should be under the forum for accessories and not general but here it is.
I know a lot of people with nooks and kindles, but those people are also women that carry around a purse. I know there are some jackets with big pockets however it is summer now and I am not going to wear a jacket when it is 90+degrees out. A backpack or messenger bag just seem too big an bulky to carry everywhere and I bought this because of it being thin and light. If I was going to strap a heavy contraption to cover/carry it, then I would have gotten a xoom.
I love using this at home, in bed, on the couch and on the toilet but I feel awkward leaving the house with it. I will also check out what people have been using for their iPads but I would like to know if anyone out there have found a good solution for carrying this around on a daily basis while not looking like a tool/girly man/hippster.
I carry mine with my hands~!
HEY OH!!!!!!!!!
I probably will not be out and about with mine too much. I got it to go along with my laptop. I love my laptop, but it tends to get warm after extended use, is somewhat heavy trying to go from room to room throughout the house, continuous fan noise, and ok battery life.
This device allows me to roam freely throughout the house, has great battery life, and zero fan noise.
If I happened to go out in public with it, I'd carry it in a slim case. I'd most likely have to do the same if I had 7" tab as well. Since my Android phone can pretty much do everything a Tab can do, I pretty much rely on it while out and about. I grab my tab when I return home for browsing the web & doing other tasks with a much larger screen display.

Since I got my iPad on launch day, I've been carrying it around in a small leather messenger bag I got from the UK. I don't take it with me everywhere I go, mainly just work, so it works out. The bag is designed to snuggly fit a 15" laptop, so it isn't very big. Perfect for what I use it for; iPad, cables/accessories, camera, phone, etc. May not be the best solution if you are looking to carry this with you 24/7 though
Edit: Here is the bag I am talking about on eBay

I think a sleeve would work best. Although, it feels awkward carrying it around

That's a really nice bag!
Sent from my GT-P7510 using Tapatalk
I might have to get one of those.... Really nice.. Now we all sound like a bunch of chicks at a purse shop. I want that bag. Right now I'm just carrying in my leather zipper portfolio. I haven't received either of the 2 cases I bought for it yet.
current backpack: http://www.amazon.com/OGIO-Politan-...rel&qlEnable=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1308860365&sr=1-47
i actually got this with a recent purchase of the special edition of Infamous 2 for the PS3 and it works ideal to hold the keyboard, tablet and w/e else I want to bring to work separate compartments and all
its a single arm sling messenger backpack
There is no way you can carry a 10 inch tablet without a bag and both hands free. It just won't fit into pockets. I don't mind carring a small (12 ' x 7 ') messenger bag, but that's me.
Maybe wait for the 8.9 which supposedly will fit in a suit or blazer pocket, but if you're a jeans and T guy, then 7 is all that will work.
After doing a little searching on iPad bags I came across this one http://www.amazon.com/STM-Jacket-Laptop-Screens-Black/dp/B003FMU320/ref=lh_ni_t
It doesn't cost that much, says it only weighs 3.2Oz(which I will believe when I see), a slight bit larger than the tablet itself and has a side compartment that will hold the charge cable and my phone.

OMG, that is one sexy man-purse.
I think this is a perfectly reasonable question.
I think you're going to have to compromise a bit on this one. I don't think there is anything you will be able to do to give the 10.1" tab even the portability of the original 7" let alone a smartphone like the Dinc. I was able to stick it into my front pocket on my hoodie today, but though it fit perfectly fine (at least from the tablet's point of view, it was a bit awkward walking about with something that big in there.
For me, it's not a big issue because I can just leave it tucked into the pocket on the rear of the passengers seat in my truck if I'm out and going to somewhere where I won't need it, or otherwise leave it at home. But I realize that's not always an option for some people.
One book-style case I've seen includes storage for cash and credit cards on the side opposite of the screen, which might be useful if you wanted to take the tablet with you everywhere you go. But for me, most situations where I wouldn't want to have to hold my tablet are situations where my phone is more than sufficient, so no biggie for me.

That is so small though that it will look like a purse.
I'm hoping it won't look like a purse. If it does, then I might try out one of the following but they too all might look like purses.

I have my eye on a really cute red patent leather Prada bag. Say what you will, but I'm comfortable in my sexuality.....
Okay, maybe not that comfortable. I'm thinking of a compact messenger style bag... something along these lines.

I doubt the 8.9 would fit in most suit jacket pockets - my GT7 does fit, but it doesn't leave a whole lot of space.

The issue of Athena's size has been raised on many threads, and I had always said that size is a non-issue for me. I would like HTC (if they are reading this) to keep the 5 inch screen size in future models as realVGA is only meaningful on screen of this size. The question is how do we carry this? Some has said that it is only possible with a backpack, which I had disagreed.
I had distinquished betweeb devices which are travel friendly (this includes SHIFT, eee PC, etc) that cannot be with you 24/7 from those which are "body portable", meaning we can have the device on our body without feeling it. I believe that I had achieved "body portability" with Athena.
This is a photo showing how I'm doing it. I post this in order to also help people who are struggling with the size issue, and hopefully it helps us to enjoy the device as much as I do.
Cheers.

I think you would agree that on the left photos, nobody would notice that I'm using the belt pouch. Ive shown a variety of scenarios, from very formal ones where a business suit is worn, to semi formal ones where only a business shirt is worn, to very casual ones.
When I'm at home, I sometimes don't wear a shirt. But I never take the belt pouch off even in my house. It is comfortable.
athena replaces my laptop 4 days a week
The athena fits well in my jeans or slacks. A bit heavy with the stock leather pouch and keyboard but it's fine once you get used to it. I'm a heavy user of the athena because it replaces my laptop whenever I'm in the office. The built in word and excel though bare compared to the desktop versions are in fact quite handy. I don't mind the bareness. I just transfer the files for reformatting when needed. The 5 inch screen is a sight for sore eys compared to using my atom. With real VGA at 128 dpi installed I can view my files with ease(20/20 vision).
Though battery is an issue, I just plug it whenever wifi is on and unplug it when I'm done.
The athena is a device definitely not for everyone. Just those serious enough to maximize it's power, patient and brave enough to experiment with different softwares to make it more powerful. It took me a week to find the right combination of applications to install and the system of manually installing them. I'm now reaping the benefits of all my experimentation. I now bring my laptop only if necessary which is around twice a week as opposed to 6 days a week.
Portability is not the issue. The advantages for me, outweighs the size factor.

This goes from the sublime to the ridiculous!
If only i had known I could have put it in a pocket all my problems would be solved ............madness!
The shirt pocket looks stuffed and stretched and on a sweaty day would be a heavy nightmare
The jacket you wouldnt see it but it would still be there weighing you down
The holster just looks gay!
Why not just get a bigger pocket for a EEE or SHIFT or a ****ing huge one for a DESKTOP
Or strap an EEE or Shift to your waist
If you dont mind the weight you coould carry a brick with you all day
Your attempts to show how portable this phone/pda is and the fact that it has a specific weight and dimensions is hilarious
For my next trick see how i turn a portable TV into a wristwatch!
You are a nutter dude.......priceless
Perhaps a few shots of you in your speedos with the Athena down the front should be next!
honestly i have to show some people at work this tomorrow

Your gay mate if you think putting an Athena in your pocket or a holster MAKES IT SMALLER or your just plain retarded.
Whats stupid about going from WM6 to FULL XP, 5 inch screen to 7 inch screen , video that works etc etc for similar portabilty and then carrying a phone that out performs your precious turd in so many areas.
The Athena has barely sold, how many people do you know who has one? apart from those here. The reason being because it is Neither ONE thing or another Its a ****ty phone and a ****ty laptop combined

This is just getting ridiculous. I have stood largely in the background watching this develop in a number of threads. Spacecat - I have no difficulty with you being on the forum despite not being an Athena user. But I really don't see the point of wasting everybody's time with your abusive posts and and unbalanced threads - that's really not what xda-devs is about.
I know you're going to flame me for this - but that will rather prove my point, I suspect......
Here spacey kitty kitty kitty. Try this -- http://www.forum.nokia.com/
UMM! It tastes good! Why not give it a try?? Go pee on someone else's shoes for a while. I'm sure there's plenty of people Mr. Macho Man Space Kitty could call gay over on the Nokia Forum! And maybe they really are!
Seriously, to EagleSteve -- Thanks for posting the pics. I'm with you on the 5" screen. Maybe scale down the thickness (think MacBook Air) and weight, better keyboard. Then I'm 100% happy. OK, throw in a faster processor and bigger battery too. Then I'm 150% happy.
I do the pocket thing, which is OK. Haven't found a pouch that I'm really happy with that isn't too small so it's hard to retrieve it easily or else too huge so that it gets in the way. What pouch are you using? I've already bought about 8, I think.
Note that I now use the stock case w/ keyboard. I did have the holder with pocket clip which was OK except it didn't seem stable plus it kept breaking--not the best with an expensive device. Lots of times, I carry it like a planner, but I have a tendency to then walk away from it.
Maybe I'll post a picture where I am carrying it so Space Kitty can say it looks like a purse and get all hyperexcited. You know, EagleSteve, Space Kitty probably printed out your pictures and put them up on his wall. What do you think?
For the abusive *****
Hey space kitty, try to abuse someone else. We do not come here to confirm our beliefs about our athena. We come here to maximize it.
Don't flaunt what you have there. For all we know, you are the one who is gay that's the reason why you kept using that word. Hmmm... I wonder... Eow!!!
Anyway if you don't have an athena or don't appreciate the fact that we love our athena, cut yourself some slack and keep your mouth shut. Your meows are not appreciated here.
A dog might hear you and give you a nice shuddering chase.

I'm totally with you on the thickness and weight aspect. I hope future models address that. HTC, if you're reading this, please listen to the users here.
As for the pouch, I use a DIY that I made myself, but that was because I couldn't find a suitable one at that time. Now there are options. In fact, You can have it custom made for a very reasonable price of $29.95. Check my posting today under "have you tried this case" in the accessory main thread. edit: here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1838445#post1838445. Because you are the one specifying the internal dimension, I suppose your issue of finding it too tight or too bulky is not there with this product.
I had long ago learned not to take spacey kitty seriously, as he is really impossible to discuss anything with without going crazy.
As you, Yetdy, newuse888 and many others pointed out in more than one ways here as well as in other threads, we're here to share ways to better use this device, not to engage in pissing contest. I'm not a moderator, so I can't stop him from pissing around in the Athena threads. He makes a real fool of himself, but he says he is enjoying it. What can we do? Sigh...
"Concealed Weapon"
Nice pics, eaglesteve. These kind of remind me of an article I saw in Handgun Digest magazine wherein Masaad Ayoob, concealed weapons expert, showed how he could conceal at least half a dozen handguns wearing jeans and a t-shirt. In the proper hands, the Athena can be just as powerful (or dangerous!)
I don't often get sucked into flame wars, but I am also getting sick of spacecat's bs...
Let's all just leave him alone so he'll get bored and go away...
Its Ok freaks this is real entertainment value believe me!
Its like talking to scientologists!
I love how you all convince each other of some of the most dubious merits of a device which is fair enough i guess.

Wow, Spacecat,
I've never come across anybody as detached from reality as you are. Are you still okay? Your arguments are so absurd, childish, unreasonable, completely lacking in credibilty, and so sadly naive. How could you deny what is obviuosly the case, that Athena is really very easy to carry around? You behave almost like you're demon possessed! Go and see a shrink.
Next, you're going to add me to your long list of nuts. You better get a thick book for that. The rate you're going, everyone on the forum would have to get on your list pretty soon.
Why can't you just say, "I've made my case, and I stand by my viewpoint. I'd respect your own view.". Why do you have to spill poisons on whoever disagree with your very warped view?
We need to move on and go back to our constructive discussion instead of having you charging into the forum ****ting everywhere to everyone on anything that contradict your narrow minded opinion.

Hi wgary,
I think your post deserves a bit more discussion.
Before Athena, I also had carried around fairly large devices in my trousers pocket. These devices include HP Jordana 680 and 690. They were a lot bigger and heavier than Athena. I did find it too heavy as it really pulled my pocket down. Fortunately, Athena is not heavy enough to cause this problem.
Then, just before Athena, I had a Mio 168 and a Nokia Phone. I also wore a belt pouch for my Mio168 since my left troubsers is used for carrrying the phone and the right pocket is for my bunch of keys.
For both belt pouch (for Mio and Athena), I was paying special attention to the ease of slipping in and out of the case one handed because I used them to play golf, when my other hand is needed to push to buggy. Therefore it is important that when you place your order you do not make it a tight fit.
When I placed my order mentioned, I've allowed for 21 mm depth, 90mm wide. This is to be used without keyboard, where the internal dimension is 89mm x16mm. If you carry keyboard and leather case, then you should measure them carefully and add about 2 or 3 mm depending on your preference.
Also, I prefer flap cover with Velcro fasterner. I also like a belt loop rather than clip. A belt loop is more hardy I feel.
I'm not into hard leather. I prefer it to be soft as it is more comfortable to my body, especially when I sit down. Another advantage of soft material is that I sometimes keep it in my pocket when the social condition call for (for example, when I want to tuck in my shirt, and I don't want to be seen having a pouch hanging on my belt).
My present DIY pouch is made of very soft bag lining of an old notebook carrying bag. I always face my screen inward so screen protection was not a worry.
8 pouch are many. You must have spent a little fortune on them. I hope your next purchase will be the right one. Cheers.

Looks a a very snug fit. Can you slip in and out with one hand? It looks very nice.
Yep, you can, albeit with a little practice, of course (but very little ).
Very snug indeed. As I said, the Athena almost looks small inside it, lol: yesterday, I took it out at a meeting and my colleagues and I chuckled on the fact that they were surprised to see the Athena, which they think is "quite big for a phone", coming out from under my vest that way, since they hadn't had a clue I had it with me. So I guess it IS extremely discreet.
And the screen's protection's practically bulletproof (with two layers of aluminium protections).

Sounds great!
BTW, since we're on the topic of being discreet, is wearing the bluetooth headset around the neck also concealable? Can the shirt's collar cover it without producing noise to the mic?
Yep, it is concealable, and the collar of the shirt will not cause any disturbance.
But maybe you could ask that same question in the dedicated thread (in the GENERAL accessories section, not the Athena accessories) so I can answer and elaborate on it, and have this info more centralised and readily accessible ? ;-)
Oh happy day, notice that spacecat has been banned. Take a look just below his name on all of his posts now.

Looks like a band of elastic that wraps around it to keep it shut...
If this had magnets, or real snaps or...something else, it might be a contender...I'm not a fan of elastic...wears out way too fast.

If this had magnets, or real snaps or...something else, it might be a contender...I'm not a fan of elastic...wears out way too fast.

I think what you are seeing as "elastic bands" are the grooves in the case for the edge of the tablet to set in.
I will be very eager to hear from someone who gets this case to find out:
1. How it"snaps shut"?
2. If the flap opens all the way to the back?
3. How well the tablet stays in the case?
I purchased this from Ebay a week ago. When it comes I will post pics and give my thoughts on it. Should arrive next week. Woot!!
Looks nice, but, I refuse to use eBay.. a source for this from a real store would be great

I am purchasing this within next week. Seller gave me the link for his store.
http://www.fintie.com/
IMHO, it looks like one of the best cases out there.
Per the description from the store link above,
5.Elastic band holds iPad 2 closed securely while on the go
maybe it does use elastic bands, but since it also says "iPad 2" I'll be curious to see how it actually works.
Elastic closure...
Having gone to where the original object was posted and downloaded the picture, I saw a swelling on the "upper corner" of the cover that could really only be a couple of things...
Given the lack of anything else that might be considered a candidate for some sort of closure, I figured it to be elastic...
Looking forward to seeing the confirmation in other people's pictures...I still may get it and modify it to my liking. Seems like the closest yet. I do wish it had some other type of closure...
P.S. I love the simplicity of the TPU "snapon" case I have now - seems to offer more corner / edge protection should I mishandle it.
I may buy another TPU case and add / modify it with portions of this case. now THAT would be cool...
I'm thinking that "snap shut" could means like one of those jean button...

( then dock it through a circle ring ( case snap on to base ) to become desktop with angles and 360 rotation positions )
Top half of the circle above Acer logo is part of tablet case while the bottom half is use as the backstand. ( it is bendable at that part/or separate.... see the joint lines in pic #1 )
the Jeans snap shut button could either be on the top half or the lower half circle... served the same purpose.
Together, they combined to becomes a portfolio case

I preferred that it is bendable instead of separate and snap on button on the top half of the ring.
top candidate for me and also because cannot get the Blurex case from Amazon to Canada.

besides... that's what the ad said !!

Same here, but I have the blurex slim case now and love it, and but this case looks nice
Sent from my A500 using XDA Premium App
I received mine today, which I ordered last week from fintie.com. It looks exactly like the pictures on ebay or the fintie.com so I am not going to post any pictures. I also have a blurex slim case (same thing with roocase slim) and quality wise it is not as good as blurex, and it has one less indentation thingies in the case that serve as a stopper for different angels, but it stays fine even if you don put the table directly into those indentations.
Build quality is ok, not great but ok. Unfortunately just like in the pictures it has an elastic strap as a closure instead of a magnetic flap or a hard leather part like in blurex case. I am not sure if it wears out or becomes lose quickly, only the time will tell.
Swivel mechanism works fine, and it is a lot easier to remove the tablet from the case, if you are doing that constantly. The part that your tablet sits in is plastic, the rest is fake leather. It is slightly thinner than the blurex slim case, mainly due to less padding on the flap.
Removing the plastic case from the swivel mechanism and flap is NOT easy at all, and would probably break the notches on the swivel eventually.
Both sides are open like the blurex case, so this is not designed to protect your tablet if you drop it sideways, but more for to protect it from daily wear and tear and carrying in a bag, etc.
All in all I am happy with it and would buy it again, since I really wanted something that swivels for reading comics in portrait mode.
Thanks man, this seems like a nice case then. I will order mine within this week, although it will probably reach my hands one month after I do the purchase (I live in Mexico and our Postal Service is really crappy).
Looking forward to pictures as well, was wanting a case like this since I read mangas and also browse ebay in portiat mode.
I just Googled "iconia a500 rotating case" and found another vendor for this item and bought it for about $19 total. (Same item but $10 cheaper than the two vendors on Amazon; in fact this vendor is through amazonwebstore.) I'll try to remember to post back here after I get to play with it for a couple of days.
I received the case yesterday, so shipment from the vendor I used was quick enough for me. The case looks just as it does in pictures posted in this thread already, so I won't add more.
The thickness of the case material seems like it will protect the tablet very well from abrasion damage. As for impact damage, dropping small/light things onto the case shouldn't damage the tablet inside--or even dropping the tablet itself onto a hard floor unless the tablet lands right on a corner as the sides are exposed. (Even then, the case will protect it a little bit as it does extend over the edges of the Iconia a little.)
When the case is open, access is unobstructed to all buttons and ports except, of course, the docking port. When the case is closed, the elastic band covers the camera and the headphone port. I can't imagine anyone trying to take pictures with the Iconia closed in the case, but blockage of the headphone port could be a problem for people who want to close the case securely with the elastic band and listen to music through wired headphones at the same time.
There are two preset angles in this case. Using the trusty eyeballing method, one is 50 deg and the other is 65 deg. There is enough friction to set the tablet at any angle between there and not much give to set beyond.
The rotation works as advertised and is the reason why I got this particular case. I spent $19 on it and feel it's a good value. If you find a deal on this case for $10-$15, then you shouldn't even hesitate.

So I've owned the tablet for over a week now. I like it. However the plastic backing around the microSD slot has slowly become loose and now holding the device feels like cheap plastic. I don't access the port at all, save the one time i put the sd card in.
Anyone else noticing this build issue?

I got mine a few days ago and I must say I quite like it! The only build issue I have is a somewhat remarkable amount of light bleed along the bottom but it doesn't bother me enough to post a pic of it. Best buy only had one case that didn't look very good so I'm still sporting the protective back covering till more cases are in stock. I have high hopes for this!
I am on my 3rd Note trade in. It finally is not loose next to the sdcard. I told them I expect near Perfection if I Pay 400 for an 8 inch tablet!

It really should be of better build quality for $400. Or it should be at least $100 cheaper. I have the 10.1 and it feels OK, not terribly cheap but not of high quality. I will be putting it up on eBay and going to the 8.0 regardless, due to it being a more pragmatic size for my day to day use. I’m just waiting on the black version.
I had this problem as well. I replaced it at best buy and haven't had a problem with the new one.

Obviously they are not "all the same" since some owners are reporting here that there are no issues with theirs. I think most people are going to use some type of case with this, so IMO it's not too much of an issue. Of course I would like to see better build quality, but I don't think it's that bad. I agree that the plastic back is too shiny/greasy/slippery/nasty, but then again most people are going to put it in a case.
You can get a good sense of the build quality by checking out the display units at Best Buy (if you live in the U.S.). These things are handled by tons of people and kids each day who treat them with little respect because they don't have any personal investment in them. You can always tell which products on display have subpar build quality.
And Really? It was too thick for you? How much thinner do you want it? There won't be any room for the battery if it's thinner, or for the S-Pen silo/dock. I'd rather have a bit longer battery life and a secure place to store my S-pen rather than a thinner tablet. The weight, thickness, and balance in the hand are the best I have experienced in this general size.

Oooooooo magnets Are bad man. Not so much for regular phones but for phones with stylus and digitizer it will over time cause dead area s on your screen. Don't believe me ?
Head over to the note 2 forums and check out all the problems with cases involving magnet clasps. If got so bad the companies offered to replace your magnet sealing case with one with a simple button in stead. I had one and as soon as I put it on I started having problems with the area around that magnet.
Just stay away from magnetic cases period. Just trust me. Or mess up big time. Once that part of the screen gets borked its borked
That pic is the replacement one with the button they sent me. Also watch out for those magnetic kickstand cases. Big no no too those utilize neodymium!

Yes.
I'm in even though I swore I wouldn't be. Here's my rationalization (to myself):
A lot of early reviewers said you had to touch the display or side button to turn it on. GSMArena confirmed you can activate it by shaking it using the accelerometer.
I'm getting a Note 10.1 2014 which also works with Gear so I can use it as a second phone when I want/need to. My N3 will be a carrier version and the N10.1-14 an unlocked Octa. So when traveling I can use SIMs from other carriers in my tablet if I can’t use them in my phone.
Tech is a hobby. I've wasted as much money on things of more questionable value so the Gear, even though it's pricey, will make me smile.
Samsung's got a lot riding on wearables so I'm hoping the Gear evolves quickly with updates and third party apps. Or it could be replaced by the Gear 2 a couple of months after I buy it. You spin the wheel and take your chances.
I really want to use it as an alternate to a BT headset. If the calling features on it suck I might end up returning it. But I’ll probably be unable to undo my other rationalizations.
Google Glass and Gear are not in the same category. You can where a watch anywhere at just about any time.
There are a lot places where you are restricted from actively using a phone where looking at a watch to get info would be rather benign, work during meetings, school, gyms, at many retail work places etc... Most of those would not allow wearing Google Glass ...
Even if you don't get one of the standout colors (red for example) it is pretty obvious you are wearing them when you have them on.

Where what kind of watch you are wearing would not get a second glance.
I can see retail locations asking you to remove your Google glasses as well which would not think for a second about the watch you were wearing and would not care if you had your phone in your pocket as well.
At $300, not really interested... but if I found one for in the $100 range, I might pick one up to play with one (Gear that is).
Ready pre ordered the Note 3 but cannot for the watch yet (AT&T)

Really a shame that Glass is considered a threat to privacy, almost solely because it has a camera (it's not like the Gear doesn't have one). In terms of categories, they kinda are the same. They are both wearable accessories that extend the experience of a device. The Gear being much more limited. Being around the same price, I just don't see the Gear being something (most) people would want or would use.
I believe once Glass becomes popular (not necessarily in its first iteration) stores will come to accept it, as they have with phones.
I just can't get down with the google glass in general. It looks so ridiculously stupid on the wearer. If its ever adapted into sunglasses or even prescription glasses I'll consider them. But not until then....

Not that I have cash to burn nor do I like wasting it, but I get 14 days to decide IF I like GG or not and if not I return it. But after reviewing the features and benefits I think it will offer some value to me. But hey its not like I haven't had 7 phones this year already.

They do have sunglasses. They come with lenses. To me, no, the look isn't flattering. But think about ALL the tech going into it, and the amount of work it took to shrink it to that size. It looks beautiful (IMO) from a tech standpoint, exactly as I pictured it would.
Also, that patent that Google just made for Glass on a pair of glasses.

I can see what your saying as far as how it looks from a tech stand point. I just prefer something less... intrusive. Thats the reason I love the gear. It just seems like it fits. Nothing awkwardly standing out or shouting to the world "look at me".
Yes for the phone, no way for the watch, it is just a gimmick imho.
I currently run a Droid Maxx and it is the largest phone I can operate with one hand.
It fits OK in some front pockets and tight in others(for my wardrobe).
How do you deal with these huge phones? I am a dude and not carrying a purse.
I hike, bicycle, ride motorcycles, and drive a lot for work. I also have an infant which I carry a lot and the Nexus 6 may be a chore to one hand.
This phone is borderline "gotta have" material.
How do you folks keep these phones without damaging/dropping, or bending/breaking in a pocket, etc.?
Basically.. You'll have to put your phone > then your kid.
Seriously though.. You just have to be careful. If you're having issues now with a 5" phone then yeah.. 6" isn't for you.
I would not use my phone if I were carrying an infant, even if I could use it one-handed. It's just not necessary.
And for the pants, well, stop buyin pants that are too tight?
Or like the last guy said, get a smaller phone.
Sent from my GT-I9505G using Tapatalk
Other than making a quick phone call, your device should only be used when you have two hands free. This is why drivers are causing dangerous situations and sitting still at green lights. Smart phones take not only your hands, but your concentration and focus. Use them only when you are able to leave your focus from other activities. Voice features are improving, but still cause you to refocus your attention. I typically use my GS3 4.7" phone two handed all the time.
Well... you just have to be careful. Limit your multitasking, don't try to operate the phablet when your both hands aren't free.
Also, I always buy pants with wide and deep pockets, lol
I currently have a Note 3, with average sized hands in my opinion. And I have no problem using my phone one handed while doing other things. If I want to type a lot, it is more comfortable to use both hands. Other than that, I don't mind using it one handed at all. If you support the bottom of the phone with your pinky, as I occasionally do, it can uncomfortable on that finger.
been using a launch day htc one max which is about the same size for a year and i love it. the screen real estate alone is worth the price of admission.
the phone is not so big you cant use it. once you pick it up and flick around with your finger, you will wonder how you made it this long with out a larger device.
everyone i know with the large iphone was nervous as you are--now they love it and can't go back to a smaller device.

How do you folks keep these phones without damaging/dropping, or bending/breaking in a pocket, etc.?

You adapt. I love Phablets.
Had Note 1&2....
Then...6"4 Sony Ultra Gpe which I adore.
Also have Huawei Ascend Mate 2 (same size as N6.
No problems pocketing, or one handed operation actually.
I am waiting on Droid Turbo Dev edition but the Nexus 6 is also right there.
I miss the 64gb Nex 6 every time so far.
Ive had a note 3 for about a year and its a love hate relationship. When i have gym shorts on the phone is so heavy it literally is slowly pulling my pants down as i walk lol. So i usually have to put it in my backpack. With jeans i dont wear skinnys but theyre not baggy either and sitting with it in my pocket is uncomfortable i usually take it out of ny pocket and put it on the table. Although surfing the web and any multimedia on a phablet is just such a pleasure and i just cant go back to a normal sized phone. I even sold my tablet and never looked back.
Edit: i bought an armband for my note 3 for running/cycling but it is just rediculously big. Had to buy a garmin forerunner and an ipod

Well... you just have to be careful. Limit your multitasking, don't try to operate the phablet when your both hands aren't free.
Also, I always buy pants with wide and deep pockets, lol

Don't your shorts have a drawstring?
-- Really though, I'm kind of in the same boat as most people with being worried about the size of the N6. I have a Moto X 2013 and love the form factor, but hate the battery life. My bootloader is unlocked, so I could just wait it out for Lollipop and see if the battery fares any better, but I'm not thinking it will be enough of an improvement.
I plan to visit a few non-VZW carrier stores this week (nearest T-MO store told me they'd have a display on Wednesday) to see one up close and see what happens.
Not everybody can handle 6 inches.
Seriously, this phone is just designed for inappropriate jokes.

True. I don't have a place to fit this gargantuan tool like a woman does: a purse!
Nexus 6 is easily manageable...Easy.
It is RARE that any first time note users returned them because of its size.
I think obviously the Nexus 6 is going to be too large for some people (perhaps myself included), but you just have to try it and give it a chance for a couple months to find out.
I remember worrying about the size of the Nexus One, compared to my Nokia N86 that preceded it, and then worrying about the size of the Nexus 4 compared to the Nexus One. Now those concerns seem silly and those former devices seem tiny. I can't believe the number of iPhone 5 users who still complain (having not tried it) that the iPhone 6 is too big for one handed use--basically all of the iHerd says this. Seriously, they think a 4.7" screen is too big, even though it's thinner and not as wide as the Nexus 4. I personally hate one handed use, but when I need to it's easy to do on the Nexus 4.
Of course there are limits to the constant progression in size. And each of my larger devices was also thinner than the last, which went a long way to mitigating the size, while this will not be true with the Nexus 6. But you probably won't know your own personal limit, until you exceed it. Just holding the phone in a store is not good enough, because it will seem huge at first.
I think if you want the Nexus 6, just get it. If it turns out to have been a mistake, then you'll know your limit and can do something different next time or sell it and get a Moto X (or whatever they're calling that Verizon thing, the Moto Craxx?).
I predict humans will soon evolve to grow progressively longer and longer opposing thumbs and permanently crooked over necks to accommodate their incessant need to stay glued to their devices as they grow larger. We might even see an eye develop in the palm so people will be able to text and drive without ever looking away from the road.

I'd sooner bet on the human species becoming too stupid to live.
