restart the phone?
tried that,
currently trying a factory reset with no luck.
ended up with a new sim, now the number is 00000 but its better than a random one
Put the SIM in an old Ericsson or Sony Ericsson and edit it there

hiyah, em using unlocked SE Xperia X10i (vodafone)
the problem is that after a day or 2 i get this error no sim card in the phone... i changed my sim cards as well... i even rooted x10i to R2BA020... still same problem...
then i updated it to R2BA026 the latest firmware... buh yesterday it game me the same error... any idea how to overcome this problem???
i need assistance big time asap... i'll be grateful to u ppl... thnx
While it was not a sony handset that gave me this issue I was able to be rid of that error by adding some think clear tape to the back of the sim, non contact side. My mates Sim card was slightly thinner than mine and it would not make a good contact so I used an alcohol wipe and cleaned the contacts then modified his sim card no problems since..
hope that helps

I have a China clone of xperia x10 with android. I did a hard reset and now my phone won't recognize my ATT sim. (It works fine in my other phone.) Where the sim card is, It displays Invaled IMEI. I checked the IMEI number and it appears to be valid. Although, the phone says invalid when I type*#06#. I got the number from under the battery. What can I do? The phone worked before and therefore should work again.

Ok, so you have a bootleg copy of a Sony Ericsson phone running a ported copy of android, version unknown....and surprise, it has not worked out well for you.
Why on earth are you asking about it here?

Invalid IMEI
Granted, it is a clone. I did a reset because of a few quirks like not being able to download from the Android Market which it had been doing fine. The phone now seems to do everything except making calls because my sim won't register. I have tweeked and flashed another unit Axim x50v and now it works fine, but I'm uncertain what to do about the Invalid IMEI problem in my phone. There must be an answer.

It's Samsung Galaxy S forum here ;O
When i open the contact menu at the very top it says myself with someone elses phone number i am assuming it should be mine.
Yes i did buy the phone from another shop wondering if it was his/her number that sold it to that shop.
Yes i did change the original number to have my old number and do not remember the original number that came with the current sim that i use now.
All in all you should be able to edit the damn thing it lets you edit the name but not the number and you can not delete that entery.
I had a similar problem.
I ported my old number through my contract (T mobile).
However when my number ported it still stated the original number the sim card came with.
Solution:
I fixed this by using my girlfriends Dummy phone (Not smart phone) i edited the sim card number to my ported number, put it back into my xperia play and it worked.
Hope this works for yourself.

Hi, i recently portde my old number when i moved from t-mobile to three uk, and although it's worked fine, i.e. if i call my number which was originally on t-mobile), my phone rings. and if i call out, people see the correct number. text messages and the like also work fine. but in the settings menu, under device status, it shows the unused three uk number that was the original number of the sim i'm now using. also this unused number is diplayed in kies. is there any way to fix this so that it shows my actual number again?
I have the same issue.

Have you tried removing and reinserting the sim card and rebooting?
I haven't but have unlocked boot loader and wiped it since and still the same
I have a similar issue but where my number should be, it says, "unknown". According to T-Mobile (my carrier), it's because the SIM has yet to receive an update, which I can't get until I return to the US on Monday and should get as soon as I log on to their network.
