Let's get the G1 alive & kicking again - G1 General

Hi guys,
With all the changes going on with Android especially the past couple of years, the ancient G1 has been pretty much left behind at this point. It's quite understandable given how poor the hardware is by today's standards and just how old it is. But for nostalgic purposes, a reminder of how far we've come and to demonstrate the power of the development community I want to revive it in some form. I've already posted some videos of the G1 running a couple of the brand new material design Google apps on my own channel here and for the new channel I have just launched for my Android news site Little Green Dude here.

The plans are as follows:
1. Produce a more up to date ICS build with a "Lollipop-esque" experience in terms of UI (I know there is a Jelly Bean port but ICS is the most modern Android build that ever reached a usable state).
2. Attempt to improve the performance and utility of this ROM as much as possible within the limitations of the hardware - for instance I want to try and use pretty much the entire internal 256MB ROM for /system and have /data mounted entirely on the MicroSD if the performance of the G1's SD reader will allow it. I am also considering producing and modifying some apps especially for the G1
3. Explore backporting of certain apps and features to ARMv6 where they are currently only AMv7 compatible and also from newer versions of Android to ICS if this remains the newest possible stable Android base
4. The big one, if I can get some help and support from an experienced kernel developer I would like to eventually try and look into getting a more modern version of Android working. Either building on the limited support we have for Jelly Bean or leapfrogging it to KitKat or dare I say it Lollipop.
I have already made some limited progress as shown in the image above which was made with a screenshot taken from my G1 a few days ago (full res screenshot attached) and the two YouTube videos I linked to.
Now before anyone get's carried away please understand that these are ideal goals, some of which may prove to be too difficult but most should theoretically be possible with enough work and support. I can make no promises as to which if any of these will successfully make it to fruition but I am already fairly confident about 1 and parts of 2.
Is there anyone out there who would like to support such a project at any level? Testing, development, donations - literally any level of help would be fantastic!
Come on guys, she's never going to be anyone's daily device or even close at this point but there's life in the old gal yet! Let's do this!

I like the idea of this haven't been here in damn ages but for nostalgic purposes I say why not I am on board

Let's do this.
It has been some time since Ive worked on the D/S. I wasnt planning on coming out of retirement but since Ive got a bit more time on my hands recently, I suppose it wouldnt hurt to helpout where I can. I know some of the United guys may be interested as well, xillius200 already took the liberty to email us, so hopefully some others join in.
TL;DR: I'm game.

Great idea indeed! Just checked with my brother, he still keeps my HTC Magic. So will fetch that from him later next week.

Tengku you are back!!!

Well devs, contact me if you need a hand or even a dream to develop on. May have some time myself

I am willing to help test builds. I have been playing around with a Wildfire S for a few days now, it has 4.4.4 CM11 on it and using Int2Ext+ with an ext4 partition. My G1 is enjoying retirement in the closet right now.

The G1 is possibly the greatest phone I have ever owned. I tell people about it all the time and the fact that it was incredibly good for being the first of it's kind.

Hi all,
Thanks to everyone here offering their support on this. Progress has been slow due to other commitments and some problems with my G1, but I have not given up on the idea and would certainly welcome the help of anyone who is able to. I hope to have something usable to share fairly soon so hold on for that.
The biggest obstacle I am having is getting working hardware acceleration on a recent CM version. BananaSandwich seems to have HWA working but there is no source for that ROM and it is very outdated at this point. It also includes bugs not present in the United ICS builds. I tried contacting @banana4444 a while back but I didn't get a response so I assume he is busy with other things. If anyone knows how it was fixed in that ROM (so I could replicate it on a new build from source) I would be very grateful.

what's the best current ROM for this device? I have 2.3.6 cyanogenmod on it I think.

I'm here too, if you need help on tests

Only just found this thread, sounds like an awesome idea. JianC is the one to talk to about hw acceleration, was trying to help him with it Summer last year but I don't know whether he got anywhere with it.

Let's get the G1 alive & kicking again
Nothing is impossible ,cheers

I have just got a g1 yesterday, I have got RA-1.5.2 recovery on it.
Is there a flashable version of your ROM I can put on it?
It is on 1.0 rc29 now lolz.
I have not had one of these for years so I don't know what the jig is with these now.
It is in lovely condition, it had texts on it from 2008 from T-Mobile lol.
Thanks

Is this still being developed? I might be able to donate a device or two if they are needed.

Benefits of CyanogenMod

I was wondering if someone could lay out a few of the benefits of flashing to Cyanogen versus stock (rooted). I have a lot on my phone and just wanted to see if it would be worth the time to switch and get everything setup again.
I looked around and didn't see any nice list of features/benefits that would be gained with Cyanogen.
I do love the fact that it is open source and community supported. That's fantastic.
Hope this isn't flamebait...
Stable (unless you're on a nightly)
Great codec support
Bluetooth profiles (HID being a top add)
It's the latest Android version in all its un-bloated glory
Update frequency is high
I'm sure I'm forgetting other things but its not limited to that.
I'm a Sense fan myself but CyanogenMod is worth the install. You owe it to yourself to check it out.
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/19985-cm7-v-sense-what-you-lose-vs-what-you-gain/
I ran CM7 for about a month and now am running the stock rooted OTA Gingerbread. It may just be ADW launcher but CM 7 is slow and laggy compared to stock gingersense. I like others had major issues with getting GPS stable and working. I do miss some of the mods but over all i'm happier on a sense based rom.
For me battery life. Ive tried every sense rom there is and im yet to find one with better battery life. And for me its not anywhere near slow or laggy. I dont really see myself ever going back to a sense rom, definitely not the one Sprint just pushed out.

Honestly, check it out for yourself. You don't need to lose anything, nandroid backup your current setup and install CM7. You can play around with it for a while and see if it's for you and if not you can just restore your backup. Many people on here have 2 or 3 roms backed up and switch between them. My suggestion would be to read all the links in my sig, they should answer any questions you might have.
i ran it so i could connect my wii remote and play snes9x...there is something sense cant do!!!
netflix, googletalk video chat. way better keyboard. i miss a couple things about sense so i just bought launcher pro and use that for my facebook and agenda widgets. other than that sense roms are garbage to me. CM7 is great and once all the stupid little bugs get worked out it's going to be awesome.
i'd suggest flashing the roms with armon 2.3 recovery and sticking to the stable versions of cm7. i just had to start from scratch cause a nightly a while back through my phone for a loop.
give the latest stable a shot for a week and i bet you really like it.

Aosp. That's why I like it.
* CyanogenMod (advanced) settings. You can tweak it to perform just how you like it.
* Screen on/off animations
* Color rendering (to reduce screen power use)
* Regular updates
* Gingerbread well before sense roms. Even running 2.3.4 like me
* Developments are quickly included (ex: sd card read ahead value to increase read speed)
Just do a backup of your current system, flash cyanogen, play around and if you don't like it, just restore back to your original.
I was on CM7 for the past month and @ first I was in love.
Benefits:
Advanced bluetooth support (Wimote for my emulators)
Full Screen mirroring HDMI (Once again for emulators)
Speed increase (This didn't last long)
On/Off screen animations (Impressed the friends and relatives)
Cool Wallpapers
But, after awhile the bugs really started to get annoying
Negatives (YMMV)
Bugs (From random FC's, gmail stop syncing for no reason, wimax not wanting to stop without a restart plus other annoying stuff.
Speed (Eventually CM7 started to move slowly to a point where it felt like a chore to deal with my phone)
Well, Friday was the last draw when my sister's texts were not showing up on my phone. So, I flashed the new Sprint GB update and I am in love with my phone all over again. Even with the bloatware my phone is running silky smooth and I am experiencing no bugs. Plus for some reason my battery life has improved too. I was using Tiamat with SBC on CM7. Battery life become horrendous on CM7 and yes I did calibrate my battery.
When it's all said and done YMMV. The best way to find out is to NANDROID Backup and flash the rom yourself. You might be greeted to a whole new world of flashing greatness.

Lots of threads out there. I just followed the directions. I think now if you just flash the newest version of gapps and choose Google talk to install it'll install a properly working version. I'd read up on it tho.

Nice that someone actually weighs the pro's and cons as op obviously needed. There is a lot of hating going on here at XDA, All devs should support each other, not bash each other. I know I Haven't been a member on here long, but flashing roms has been a hobby for a while, I just wasn't a full blown flashaholic. Anyway, there are a lot of roms to choose from and though I develop my own, I still flash everyone elses to enjoy the experience, and learn. Everyone has the right to believe what they will, but there is a line between a thought, and posting. If some of these people where two feet away from each other, there wouldn't be all of this garbage talk. I thought XDA was all about exactly that, giving the people a choice as to what software to run, helpful guides and tips, a community, or actually a culture, if you will. Anyway, sorry.....Flash Away....

Awesome, you have made a rom for my 2nd favorite toy! Running 1.2x (rev3 ) on my Evo. I'll download, flash, test and report when I get back home where my G-Tab is.
Couple questions though:
Is hardware acceleration implemented?
What launcher are you using?
Is the full Market avaialble?
Any known issues?
I'm currently running Calc's 1.1 rom and it's pretty snappy.
Thanks for doing this!
My favorite ROM for my evo is now available for my gtab? I love it! I'm going to have to try this out soon. One question, though; does video chat in google talk work in this? I know in your build for the evo, you have to flash an additional file to get it to work, but I don't see an equivalent file here.
dumb question, how do I know what bootloader I have? I suspect its 1.1 as I rooted a couple months ago and loaded up a Tom then

Has anyone had issues yet.
any screens or video review of this?
so you said its based on 1.1 bootloader, then whats with the 1.2x thing? is that just a version number of this rom?
quick review
recovery installation:
went smooth. decent time. gapps installed no prob. on a 1.1 bootloader.
bootanimation:
Not present. Stock flashing android
First boot:
VERY fast. Got google login at begining
Wifi:
Found signals fast, connected to my device. so far no drops.
3rd party apps:
superuser. spare parts.dsp manager. so all stock cm 3rd party apps.
Launcher: Stock gb
Camera.eh. works for a .3 cam
Sd card: Does not find partion as sd card.
Icons/UI:
Wallpapers is cm. THe pull down notification is soild.
THe status bar is nice and big. friendly home menu and back buttons.
Overall. Seems to me like stock cm7. Dont see whats unique about this rom.
Could i get more info from dev to let know whats so different.
If dev can continue support on this then i can choose this.
SO all issues cm7 has, this has. dsp doesnt work. gps apps dont work.

Yeah, it's just the version number. Deck started this ROM for the evo, but has started making builds for other devices. It's just the convention he's been following with the builds for the other devices. The first stable release was 1.0; 1.1 was a short lived beta, then all of the betas since have been 1.2 followed by a letter. He's gone through all of the letters of the alphabet up to x so far, which is why this version is called 1.2x.

well i need this tablet to work with gps roms. i have to to tether it to my phone.
I said gps apps because nav apps use gps location. This tablet goes in my car and so far. havent found a non tnt rom that works with gps apps.
Just because there is no gps chip doesnt mean the app shouldnt work. I can tether to my phone to use mock location and get the gps location from my phone.
so thats why i mentioned this much
good q though
btw i updated your rom banner. Since this isnt the evo.
Btw you should change your first post to say tablet and not phone.

thanks for all the input. i will do my best to get this up to par with my evo roms i.e. everything working, + battery life, and + performance. This was my very first build for the gtab, so this was basically a base to see where needs fixing. i should have a gtab in my hands very soon as well, which will make development even quicker. My issue tracker is the best place to file issues, as i tend to them very promptly. Thanks again everybody, and stay tuned...

quick summary quoted from my other thread...
"Hey all. Been a while since my last release of anything, which was sense based, but I really wanted to start learning android and have a better perspective of it. I decided to dig a bit more into compiling android. Started horsing around with github and learned to start compiling my own builds from aosp wih the help from cmsrc, evervolv, and a few others githubs. Since the release of gingerbread to aosp, i moved away from sense. There are things that i do miss about sense, but the usability of the phone without it is just unmatched imho. Many people use or have used cyanogenmod. IMHO is a great open source project that has some of the best devs out there. I have always been more into the 'vanilla' look opposed to the themed and aftermarket. Recently i have been compiling gingerbread for the evo and mt4g and have had nothing but the best reviews. Basically the reason why i am here. Wondering if there was any interest in a few of my builds. Main reason from moving away from CM6/7 (cyanogenmod), ADW launcher and the extra added bloat(sorry) and themes. Battery life will always be one of my main concerns. Everything should work!"
Even deeper then that, alot of packages are pure aosp, I have many fixes to my roms that are not in cmsrc, and lots more. youll get to know me i am a perfectionist Hope this helps

Tired of flashing roms

Wondering if anybody feels that this flashing roms thing got annoying and at some point you realize al you do is flash romsinstead of using your phone for serious matters? Do not flame, I like flashing roms too, I was just feeling may be at some point it is no fun anymore? i'd like to see what you guys think. Share your thoughts
Really phone after phone I only do is flash Rom restore data, settings etc.mostly the phone remains unexplored.I think my phones run a Rom maximum for 3 days and minimum for few hours.it's really useless once you get a good get a good Rom,but one keeps on flashing I don't know what we achieve.but may be we do to kill time.

I, for a period of time, was flashing approx 1-2 roms per day on my HTC Sensation. Before I went to work I would have a look what for something new and if it wasn't doing it for me, (or if I was bored) would flash another when I got home. Since getting the S3 though have only flashed 4 different roms, mainly due to the fact that I am happy with Omega. Damn you Omega Team for stopping my flashing addiction!

What I mean is if you're frantically flashing roms trying to find one that fixes xxx issue, then its annoying. If you are being adventurous for more functionality or for a just for a change, its always fun.
As long as you freeze/uninstall the useless crap, stock ROMs run great since the SGS2. So, I haven't bothered with custom ROMs since SGS1. Most of the flashing nowadays is trying out the various kernels and messing with my init.d file.
You're right though, I've actually spent more time using the phone than constantly messing with the settings... not necessarily a bad thing.

With the gs3, I think the stock rom is just perfect. Devs are good but there always is some issue which makes them post an update every week. I am new though, maybe I am not the right person to talk about this
This is exactly why a little over a year ago I went from the original Galaxy S to iPhone 4. I was trying everything out, it became almost like an addiction. Yeah, that sounds a bit stupid, but I really felt it was like addiction.
I spent hours every night flashing, restoring, flashing and again restoring. I hardly got the phone set up the way I liked it before I flashed again. It started to feel like I was just flashing ROMs all the time and not really using my phone for anything else. So I got really exhausted in the end and thought I'd try iOS - a platform notorious for its limitations when it comes to customizations.
I think the year I spent with my iPhone did me good. I realized that it's more valuable (for me) to set up the phone, tweak the things that need tweaking and then just USE it, with akin to a "If it ain't broken, don't fix it" attitude.
I often told friends and relatives when they asked for my opinion about the iPhone that it was the most reliable phone I have ever used. I could always rely on it to do the stuff I needed it to do when I needed it. Later on I started to reflect over this and came to the conclusion that the phone or the OS really isn't more reliable than Android at all. Android was unreliable for me because I was always messing with it. It was me, not the phone or the OS.
So now I have given my iPhone to the wifey and have my SGS III, and sure I have tried ROMs, I have tried 5 or 6 of them I think. Now I have found one that I really like, it looks nice, it does what I want it to do, battery seems fine, I really have no complaints. Now I just have to steer clear of the "grass is greener on the other side" mentality.
With that said, I today saw that nitr8 is bringing his Insanity ROM to the SGS III, and Insanity was one of my favorite ROMs on my SGS1, so yeah I'm tempted to try it, and I probably will do that at some point. But I don't feel like I have to, because the ROM I have now and the way I have set it up really works for me.
I'm just hoping the feeling will last this time... :silly:
Its just all about the little tweaks.
I did that with the OG touch diamond and the holy grail of Rom flashing, the HD2. Now that I'm alittle older and wiser since then, I scaled back a lot with the S3 and would only go as far as rooting the stock Rom, flash a kernel or radio, and editing build.prop.....for now, at least
I was a junkie with my HTC hero and hd2, I got only s2 because of how great many roms in would flash.. With s3 i have only flashed it once... And I'm happy.. All though I'm addicted to always check xda for updates everytime I get a chance..
The one rom i flashed was cm9 0701 experimental and it's been treating me great. Don't use all features of touchwiz and to be honest it feels more stable and smooth with a experimental build of cm9 then it ever did with touchwiz lol.
My addiction is over finally

I was a rom junky at one point;guess I was a phone junky too from the g1 to mytouch slide to hd2 to g2 to g2x to sgs2...flashing and restoring constantly it seemed. Just trying to find that perfect rom/phone combination to make all my wildest dreams come true lol now I'm on a Hercules aosop rom wondering if the sgs3 is worth getting

I do flash lots of ROMs, but I am quite glad with Samsung's stock ROMs (works for me, as long as I can keep root between flashes).
I flash a new ROM everytime a ROM with a higher CL # is released.
Addicted to flashing !!
from my htc incredible s, htc one x , acer a500 iconia tab and now my samsung galaxy s 3 i have always flashed my phones from first day of purchase.
the browsing through xda became a regular thing for me, looking for that rom that catches my attention, i always look for stable, fast and nice themed roms with tweaks, at some point i was flashing my phones 2 to 4 times a day lol
i dont know why but it was a sense of exploring, being able to rip a stock out and making it into something that is more for you.
my wife obviously dont understand so she gets the ****s when i purchase a brand new phone and straight away mod the **** out of it lol
the way i see it, purchasing a smartphone comes stock which is restricting and customizing it is limited !!
so flashing a custom rom is opening it up to change things to your preference.
i absolutely hate iphones, they are dull and so restricted and basically all the same, you know one iphone u know em all.
Android rocks and iphones can burn like they do !!!

Yeah I'm the same, I flashed Omega when i 1st got my phone because it was the only custom rom and loved it. I have flashed a few roms but always went back to Omega.
The only thing I flash religiously is siyah kernel updates.

Go into the US galaxy s III forums and tell them you're tired of flashing roms..see the reaction you get. LMAO I'm sure any one of them would kill to have as many choices as we have
Thats why my SIII and most of Android is more like a toy rather than a tool for me... i always tinker my phone when i have nothing to do and always have iPhone as backup when im not doing it right.

[MINI REVIEW] MiniCM9 for Xperia x8

I have created this thread in order to offer viewers my personal review on the MiniCM9 ROM on the nAa-ICS kernel for the Xperia x8. I have had experiences with many ROMS and have decided to review the one I am currently running on my device.
Before I begin I have to mention that, although there maybe other reviews every one is opinionated or 'spiced' differently. I think it is valid that there will be more than one review of the same ROM.
If you have ANY suggestions, please leave them as a post below.
This review will be of the latest version of the ROM - 3.0.4 and the latest version of the kernel - 04.
The latest MiniCM9 ROM for the x8 was released on the 31st of March 2012 by nobodyAtall, bursting onto android forums all over the web. As the successor to the extremely popular MiniCM7, users were desperate to see if the newest installment would live up to the high expectations. After using the ROM for a month, I can safely say it has blown me away. I will cover specific areas in which I was amazed.
Visuals
The CyanogenMOD series aims to offer the most 'vanilla' experience of the android OS. Obviously, as a port, many resolutions would have to be tweaked in order to look more beautiful and smooth. Yet again the CyanogenMOD offers a wonderful set of vibrantly tweaked icons. nobodyAtall also includes signature artistic wallpapers with the release that will blow your mind, perfectly rendered for the screen. Overall visual quality is perfect. Stock ICS infused with that CM touch.
Kernel
The kernel, also developed by nAa is yet again wonderful. Once installed, it will offer you the greatest in performance. With an Antutu benchmark of around 1800 and a gaming fps of around 50. Of course the custom kernel will give you the option to overclock and undervolt. Overclocking to a scale of around 729mhz will definitely please your performance needs. In addition to this the kernel will give you a powerful kick for your charge giving you a massive one day of heavy use and 2-3 days of moderate use.One of the greatest pleasers however was the fact that Clockworkmodrecovery is built in. How convenient is that! As a whole, the kernel is top notch - which is to be expected from nAa. However you will have to unlock your bootloader to install a custom kernel. Something many less brave users were unhappy with. But seeing as nAa dropped support for stock, I guess users will just have to toughen up.
Advanced Options & Apps
On every release CyanogenMOD gives the x8 advanced options like overclock (mentioned above) which are not on the stock rom. CyanogenMOD 7 was jam packed with these 'advanced options' allowing you to tweak every aspect of things like performance on your device. Unfortunately, seeing as many users did not use these features, nAa decided to 'dumb it down' a bit in his cm9 release. Although this is not an issue for many users, some advanced users (especially me) felt quite a burn. nAa has also included custom apps like the music manager, Apollo, DSP manager and DEV tools. I do not think a small individual review of these apps will do them justice but in short, they're great.
Conclusion
The overall experience provided by MiniCM9 will surpass any expectations you had (probably). It is a lightweight ROM with many features that will make you enjoy your phone even more. I would definitely recommend the ROM itself as it expands immensely on the stock stuff Sony provided. (who even uses that anymore :laugh. I am not using the CM10 ROM because of little known issues and other things. But I can confirm that even in its BETA like state, it is 20x smoother than ICS ever was! The experience is expected to be just as satisfying as cm9.
Rating: 8.5 out of 10
I have spent quite some time typing this review, please do not troll. All suggestions on the other hand are more than welcome. Please hit 'thanks' if you appreciate my massive effort. Sorry if this is not something you wanted. Even though the guide is long, I call it mini because it does not cover everything.

Thankyou for your comment. RC is a prestigious title one must work towards. To gain this title you must post guides as well as help other users and make useful posts. It would be great to receive this but I must help more people and do more before even thinking about asking for a title like that. I do not want to 'jump the gun'.

Thats what Im thinking a while ago that you must be aiming for something more like being RC. Thats great. If I see you qualified I will give you a hand and personally vouch for you to become one. Keep it up, but please do only make topics that do not exist or topics simplifying things, otherwise expect hard comments from others

Hmmm... isnt 9.5 a bit too high? GB is much faster and better when gaming, opening apps(even phone app takes so long), going back to launcher, free ram(multitask) and a lot of people find jb a bit faster then ics too. Ics also lags a bit and sometimes random reboot and multitasking is not so good compared to gb roms. I would give it 7.5 and 8 max. But thats just what I think

Yes, I might try JB now seeing as the only known issue is video recording in the stock app. I hear what you say and lowered the rating a bit. If it is too high then what will happen when I review other roms. Also, I am creating a tips thread.
Hi! Good work with this thread! But I think you should combine this review with the tips & tricks together... it would save some space.. its just an idea...

No offense but your account is suspiscious. You always get thanks and favourable remarks from Greatestandroid, Droidexists, gidefide and a few others, accounts of which were created a few days after this account. Looks like puppy accounts to me.
Please clarify if this isn't the case, I may be wrong.
EDIT: Reported, let's wait for a mod to determine this

Almost every thread thanked by the same people, even a question thread, I dont know what to say, if this is true... I really cant believe why anyone would even do that. Where is humanity??

The term is thanks whore. I went through and saw an undeniable connection between you and Greatestandroid...as for the others, im not too sure. Please do not do these kinda things. Im sorry if I falsely accuse, but really if you are, stop. It's spoiling the whole "thanks" idea...in that case, we all should walk around with 5 accounts thanking each others accounts 8 times a day...we'd be covered in thanks
If that's true...looool
He ask himself things and answer to himself...he even praise himself....that's just ridiculous!!!!
If you want thanks, gain them by helping people, not yourself...

I Just Posted The Stock Android Versions Benchmark Result Because I Have Never Tested Any Custom ROM .
You are aware that the M9 is officially EOL since April 2017 and won't receive any further updates, aren't you? Neither will the "problems"* you mentioned get fixed nor will this phone receive an Android O update from HTC. HTC (like most OEMs) supports it's flagships for 24 months. No android device got supported for a longer time range, so far.
* Sidenote: My M9 doesn't get hotter than it used to get on lower firmware versions and the battery life getting worse is expected due to the age of the phone/battery and the way Android N is optimizing its apps.

I just read about the update on a Website .
.
Can you suggest me any custom Rom which have better battery and ram management as compared to stock versions ?
What about MaximusHD or ViperOne ?
I'm not sure what kind of website that was but you probably read a clickbait article with "fake news".
The battery life doesn't depend on the rom but on your usage of the phone (in other words the apps you install or uninstall, whether you use Wifi or LTE most of the time, the screen brightness, etc.).
I'm not so sure what kind of improvements you expect from the ram management of custom roms, on the other hand. Android itself is designed to keep everything in its ram until a new task needs ram space that's currently taken by an unused process. Then the old process gets kicked out of the ram for making space for the new one. Keeping everything in the ram has the benefit that re-launching processes that got used in the recent time will take less time and costs less battery life. Therefore, free ram is wasted ram and clearing it is contradictory to the way android is meant to be used. Not to mention that you reduce the time between two battery charge cycles unnecessarily by cleaning it.
So far, I didn't face any situation where the ram of my M9 hasn't been big enough for handling what I'm doing with this phone. Therefore, I'd say that there's no need for any ram management improvements.
I personally prefer Team Venom's Viper roms due to their customizability. Although, I have to admit that I'm currently using LOS on my One S since the latest Viper rom for that phone is only based on android 4.2.
I have updated to stock nougat . Will update it till the last version and then see nougat is improved or not .
I updated nougat two times to newer version and it seems like the battery life and overheating problem is decreasing slowly with each update .
.
.
And about custom rom , the developers themselves write TWEAKS FOE BETTER BATTERY LIFE as in MaximuHD rom . So you can tell me what they mean by that .
.
.
About Oreo Update , let see if it comes to our device or not . It is not officially written by htc that oreo will not come to M9 . In all ways , M9 is a fast device and capable of running Android Oreo .
If there was no official oreo , then we can also get a port from HTC 10
As said before, the device is older than 24 month. HTC stated in 2014 that they won't support their flagships longer than this time period. (No OEM does, btw.) There's no need to explicitly state that they won't update the phone, anymore, due to that announcement (which didn't get revoked, so far). It doesn't matter how "fast", "awesome" or "capable" the device is.
Developing further updates doesn't result in any additional income for the company. Their R&D departement focuses mainly on their current flagship until the development cycle of the next flagship starts. Economically seen, providing updates for already released devices is only a waste of money and human resources. Especially if the device is older than 24 months since most customers (I'm talking about that majority that doesn't even know that xda exists) buy a new phone as soon as their contract gets renewed which happens depending on the country where they live and the carrier that they use every 12 or 24 months. (Disclaimer: I don't like this update politic, either. Nonetheless, that's the way companies are thinking, nowadays, and I can understand the logic behind it.)
By the way, the latest nougat version for the dev edition is 4.30.617.12, if I remember correctly. You'll probably need to install some more updates until you're on the latest version if you're currently on 4.27.617.2.
In regard to that battery tweaks: I can't find the post at the moment but somewhere hidden in the ElementalX thread you can find an explanation why roms themselves don't have a huge impact on the battery life. Most of the custom roms offer a customized debloat during their installation or are debloated from the beginning. It's actually the lack of these bloat apps that improves the battery life (I'm looking at you Facebook). On older devices you could additionally flash a custom kernel for improving the battery life since the stock kernel was everything else than optimized. However, HTC (and probably all other OEMs, as well) learned over the years and the influence of e.g. ElementalX isn't as huge on the M9 as it was e.g. on the One S.

And yes , i update 4.30.617.12 and it is the latest update available till now
@Flippy498 , I am surprised to see the improvements that HTC made with their latest update for One M9 .
Overheating is hugely reduced now and Antutu benchmark result is also improved .
Battery timing is now better as compared to marshmallow . At first you said those two problems will not be fixed . But i hoped HTC will solve them with latest update , and i was correct

That was probably a misunderstanding between the two of us. You originally said in your opening post that a friend of yours is suffering from those problems on firmware 4.x. I assumed that he's using the latest dev edition firmware (4.30.617.12) and only wanted to explain that there won't be any further updates for the dev edition so that all bugs he's facing now won't get fixed in the future. I never meant that the existing updates wouldn't bring any improvements.

He dont have the dev edition . And neither did he update to latest version . So , maybe that was the cause of problem
