Nexus 9 external memory access - Nexus 9 General

Today I received my Nexus 9.
I also own a Nexus 7 (2012) and use an OTG cable for accessing the memory card of my digital camera using USB SDcard reader.
Tried on on my Nexus 9, workst just fine !
No external power needed.

I use Nexus Media Importer, no problems at all with OTG.

USB OTG Storage

I have the 8GB Nexus 7 so the storage obviously suffers when storing games like real racing 2 at 1.5GB and I had an idea to use a USB OTG device coupled with a card reader for added storage however I'm not sure if this would work how I hope. I've heard that card readers work with the Nexus 7 so that's fine but I was wondering if it were possible to store app data, eg the 1.5GB data for real racing 2, on that SD card (with the app on the N7) and it still work, and if it does work, how do I go about it?

Anyone?

Search feature, use it (try USB-OTG).
Root and stickmount required for USB storage capability.
And someone's probably answered the app thing too.

Sandisk Cruzer Fit and Stickmount?

Has anyone tried out he Sandisk Cruzer Fit with Stickmount on your Nexus 7? I have a 16 GB Cruzer, and I'm waiting for a OTG cable. I'd like to use it to store music and Titanium backups etc.

Click to collapse
I have and can cofirm it works with OTG cable...but I use USB Host Controller instead of Stickmount.
I am on 4.1.2, but had trouble loading it on my friends Nexus 7 with 4.2...something was wrong with SuperSU. It wouldn't grant USB Host Controller permissions.
Other than this problem, the OTG cable has worked great.

I plan on sticking with 4.1.2 for a bit longer, so if Stickmount gives me issues I'll try USB Host Controller. Thanks!

Stickmount (must be rooted) has been updated for 4.2 and it works reasonably well. I found it much more reliable when I open the app first, then connect the otg cable. You can find the external files under Sdcard/Usbstorage/Sd?1, where ? would be a letter a,b,c, etc.
I am using Stickmount and today it took almost 20 attempts to get movies to play via USB. I'm not real pleased with it since threw two latest upgrades.

MyPassport 1 TB nexus 7

Hey is there no way I can use my WD My Passport 1TB via OTG on my nexus 7 ?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Use a USB OTG cable, make sure you're rooted, and you can use StickMount from Google Play to see the external storage.
There is also a system-level patch floating around that natively enables USB OTG, but I haven't tested that.
Cheers!
I already use that but both don't work for 1 tb' flash drives work fine

Aren't "My Passport" drives spinning disks?
I don't think you can use spinning disks with OTG on small devices... or if you can, not or very long. Your battery will get hosed.

Nexus sometimes freezes when connected to external HD and OTG cable

As the title says sometimes when I try and move files from the Nexus to my external HD using OTG cable and stickmount pro the Nexus will just freeze up and i have to disconnect the OTG cable and restart the Nexus, the files I'm trying to move are all less than 500MB so i cant understand why this is happening, anyone any assistance?

Are you using an external hd with its own power source? There may not be enough current to maintain the hd during large transfers.
Use an OTG cable with stickmount pro, all my files show up shortly after connecting and i have transfered music on the Nexus but probably one around 150MB max, the problem seems to be when I go and move files around 500MB it looks as if it is transferring but the screen goes dark and won't turn back on, and I have to take the OTG cable out and reboot the Nexus

I have come to the conclusion that I need a better OTG cable, maybe the one I have isn't powerful enough, I cannot think of anything else, unless anyone else has any tips?

[Q] connect nexus 4 to TV using USB

Hi, i'm using CM 10.1 and i'm trying to connect my phone to my TV using USB in order to see my media on it.
Is it possible nexus 4 with CM? or is it my TV?
i checked the android debugging in the developer options. Did i miss something else?
Slimport.

And besides slimport?
There is Miracast Wireless Display but you have to buy the box itself for the TV which is around £50 and £100 so I would stick with Slimport which costs around £28 in total.

I think your missing his point here.
He means his tv has a USB port which you can say plug a hard drive in & watch content stored on it.
My old tv had this functionality however it's not possible to do this with the nexus 4 as the storage is not mounted as a USB storage device.
Meaning the only way you can do what you ask is via a slimport adapter to use your phone as an HDMI input on your tv

may be wrong but I remember reading somewhere that some newer Samsung TVs support MTP.
