First ...sorry for my english... (but very good italian)
i was driving my car from Rome to Pisa (400 km). Very happy for my new jj and tomtom 5.1 connected via BT to a leadtech antenna. After 2 hours i charged the antenna using the car charger that comes with the gps antenna (that has a 12 volt input ad a small usb "output"plug ...that is the same plug of jasjar). After one hour (antenna fully recharged)i put the car charger from the antenna to the jj plug.
The battery value was 17%. As soon as i connect the power, Jasjar display becomes more bright, but the red let that normaly is on during recharge, was not on. And after 40 minutes the battery level was at 11%.
So i didn't recharge jasjar. Maybe the car charger was not "compatible"...or output power not enought (.....strange....)
Have you any suggestion?
Wich brand for a good jasjar car charger?
thanks
You might want to try connecting the usb cable then switching off the Exec (via the silver power button) and then back on again. I need to do this for my mini-usb cable to start charging - although without I get the brighter screen etc that you mention. Worth a try...?

Try to turn off the Jasjar, plug the charger and then turn on the Jasjar. At least this works for me.
thanks a lot..
i will try
But in any case this means
1) find a parking
2) stop the car
3) power of JJ
4) power on JJ
5) restart JJ
6) restart tomtom
7) wait 1 min. for satelleite connection
8) exit from parking
This because a just want to recharge my ppc.... :?

Alternativery we can just cloase the screen, put the charger and then reopen the screen...
or set it all up before you drive. no stopping required that way
hi,
is there is difference between charging at charger or usb? charging speed, battery life?
whats your aprox. batt life for one charging?
What about car charger (there is lots of story that is no good for batt?) its a same jack for mda compact, jasjar and phone motorola v3! can use theese chargers safely!?
tnx!
I have a motorola BT headset with usb style plug so that users can charge headset and phone (ie V3) at the same time, I have tried it with my "spare" o2 xda exec and can confirm that it does not charge dispite the charger being the same voltage as the exec charger - I still cant see why it wouldnt work, unless its something to do with reversed polarity.
I've got a similar problem, I have a Leadtek GPS with a mini USB plug, the output is also 5v and 1amp as per the XDA's charger YET the XDA won't charge.
I presume the XDA charger is sending some kinda of data signal in addition to Voltage that tells the HTC unit to switch onto Charging mode?
I've disected a USB cable trying to get this to work, so has anyone got any ideas as to how to make a Y cable capable of charging the XDA?
I had the same issue with my old Motorola BT headset and the "two-pronged" charger. When I plugged in the car charger and connected the Exec....nothing. Until I turned OFF the phone and left the phone connected to the charger. Hey Presto! Charging light.
Now though the BT headset packed in and I've had to buy a G2 from Bluetrek.
Cheers
Ant
Oh right! So you turned the Phone element off, or do you mean put the PDA on standby mode?
I'll play more with this later.
Pressed the power button.
Sorry, should have been more precise. With the phone connected, press the power button, wait a few seconds. You should see the green signal light flash a few times, then suddenly flash twice quite quickly. Finally, the charge light should appear.
Cheers
Ant
Dude, you're right!!!
I've just gone ahead, and made my Y cable by stripping two USB cables, joining, heat shrinking...
Plugged it in and IT WORKS!!
YIPPPEEE, that saved me a fortune!!
Hi,
My wizard run out of battery completly yesterday, I brought it home and try to recharge it, but no recharging light will appear.
I left it overnight connected to the mains but to no appeal,
I also removed the battery for a few minutes and then plug again but no luck.
I´m not using the mains provided adaptor but my travelling kit, a proporta mains/usb adaptor and a retractable sync/charge cable with a mini-usb pin cos I´m back home for Xmas and I don´t travel with the mains.
I have read about problems with some chargers from Boxwave, but I have consistently using this charging conbination since October.
Any ideas, should I send it back to expansys to repair, or is there anything else I can try?
Thanks
Elsral
same thing happened to me.. Supposely the phone will not charge from being completely dead without a charger that puts out 1amp. There is another method if you are a little brave... cut up an old car charger and hook it directly to the battery (red cord to + on battery and black to -) Read about it on howardforums and it worked like a champ. I only needed to jump the battery for about 30 seconds before I put it back in the phone and the amber light kicked on.. I was very relieved!!
Same happend to me yesterday. Simply plug the carger in and wait 1 or 2 seconds then switch the power button. After some seconds the carging light should switch on.
The wizard won't charge if it's switched off.
Export800,
you are a megastar,
I put apart a usb adaptor that I had built to charge my gps and I connected cables directly to battery for a minute and Voile,
tnx a million,
elsral

But if the battery is totally dead surely the unit wont switch on ? Thus its a catch 22 ??? There is no power to switch on and the battery wont charge totally dead.
Ridiculous if you were caught out away from a charger and ended up having to pull apart a usb lead to get things back to life.
If the battery is so low, that the wizard switches off itself, and you connect the charger, it won't charge, because it's switched off.
Use the power of the charger to turn it on, then charging will beginn (and also the device will boot).

Can anyone else confirm this works as there have been many people having this problem. Simple solution if it works.
Switch off your device completely (hold the Power Button) and try to charge: Nothing happens. Now switch it on - charging begins.
I have noticed that last week, when battery was very low and i know that i would need my wizard in about half an hour. So i switched it off completely, so that it would charge faster and noticed that.
Yesterday when battery was totally dead i remembered that and i switched it on.
Btw, doesn't it damage the battery, if you connect it to 12 V (!!)??

If I come across the problem will certainly be trying your method before I will be ripping into any usb leads
The same thing happened to me this past weekend. We were out camping and my MDA's (wizard) battery went completely dead. I had a USB sync cable for my laptop, but that would not revive the unit. I'm afraid the only way to bring it back to life is with the original OEM charger which has an output of 1 amp. Thanks for the post!
I had the same issue a while back. At first I thought the moto charger I had was dead but then I plugged in a old SMT5600 and it worked fine.
I left it plugged into my computer for a hour or so and finally I heard the "new usb device blip" from the other room and it started to charge. Guess I was lucky.
Same thing happened with my wifes SMT5600. The battery died and she couldn't get it to charge with her moto mini usb charger. I plugged it into my machine and a hour later the charging light came on.
I have heard that the Wizard will not charge from my laptop using a usb cable if it is completely drain. I find this to be NOT TRUE.
I ran out of juice twice last weekend. The thing about the Wizard is that, if it's completely drained, it will get stuck at the boot screen, and go no further.
Take out the battery to turn it off again. Put the battery back in, and then plug in your charger. DO NOT TURN IT BACK ON. It needs all the power it can get. Give it a minute, and you will see your orange charge light come on. Just leave it alone for several hours, and it will charge. This is my experience.
I got it! But, first the story.
None of the above methods helped me. I tried plugging it in to a big truck lighter, a pickup truck, even an ac adapter for my coleman cooler. Nothing!
However, I had a powered Pro-Clip mount that I had as a backup for the one I use. Guess what? THAT worked!
I think the cable makes the difference. Need to find the specs on those puppies. LOL
Thanks for the help.
Hey Guys,
I have a query regarding charging my Hermes / 8525.
If I plug the phone into a wall unit, the orange charge light immediately comes on.
If I use the phone, or receive a call the phone continues to charge.
Once the phone has been used the phone/screen stays on.
When I plug the phone into my car adapter, the phone doesn't begin to charge until the phone goes into sleep mode. But then when I go to use the phone it stops charging. So if the battery is on it's last minutes, plugging the phone into my car adapter does NOT let me continue to use the phone. I have tried 3 different car chargers.
This week I bought an XTLINK Bluetooth Cell to Landline Converter. This is a great little box, and I love that once I walk into my house my cell phone rings through my phone system. Call Clarity is great.
But with the Bluetooth link active constantly the battery drains like crazy.
So I purchased a desktop charger unit. It arrived today. You can use it to charge the phone or with USB to synch the phone. So I plugged in the wall adapter to the cradle, and the phone only charges when not in use.
But when I hook up the cradle via mini-usb to my laptop the phone goes into constant charge mode - but it's doesn't stay on after being in use.
Can someone explain to me why the phone has these different charging modes ? Is there something I can do to change a setting to make the charging more consistent ?
Thank you,
Dave
??
no one else knows about this ?
I have the same problem with USB charging in the car when I was running vp3G's Rom. Now I switch to Crc's Rom and the problem is gone.
But my phone would stop charging if I use my GPS software thru bluetooth and bluetooth headset. In that case I just reset my phone and it would charge normal again.
I have seen this too. I don't know the exact details, but the phone checks the charging current when it is on, to see if it's within a certain value. If it's not, it stops the charging circuit to protect the battery. That's why it works when it is asleep. You'll need to buy a car charger specifically designed for the Hermes.
Yep, there is a long thread on car charging on the forum. Like the other uses says, either buy a HTC official charger or have a look at the other thread about soldering pins 4 & 5 together on the USB connector.
I have a generic car charger from a local electronics store that does not have a problem charging whilst talking over a bluetooth hands free and navigating using a
bluetooth gps receiver, however, I am using one of CRC's roms so that might be why.
The only thing I have found is that if I leave the charger plugged into the hermes when I start the car the hermes stops charging and will not charge again until I reboot it... disconnecting the plug before cranking the engine and then whacking it in straight after works around the problem though.
There is probably so much of a voltage drop when cranking the engine that the little DC-DC convertor can not keep the charge current up.
Hi,
My wizard main battery (wiza16) was very low and the wizard stop with a message “The internal battery is very low”. After coming back home I have tried to charge but it is not taking charge and didn’t turn on anymore. I recently bought a new battery (wiza16, 3.7 VDC, 1250 mAH) thinking that it will work again but still the same problem, wizard is not taking charge or turn on.
Can anyone help me?? What can I do to start my wizard? Do I need to change the tiny little battery (which is inside the wizard)? Kindly help me.
Wizard service manual
Hi,
See if when you connect the power plug the led turns red, if yes....
If Charge light is red when plug in AC adapter, it means the main battery is not charge enough and can’t power on,
You just need to continue charge unit the light become Amber
If not, i think you have a problem.
Check if charger its working and if its pluged.

Wizard Battery discharge completely
Hi,
Thanks for quick reply. there is no light when i connect my wizard with PC. I don't have the AC charger, I have lost that for long and was using my PC usb to charge. trying to get one AC charger.
There was no problem with my wizard, just can't turn on after it's battery discharge completely. Even the new battery couldn't turn that on.
You'll need the original charger if the battery has complelty discharged as it will only charge from the computer if the phone is powered on.
This happened to me before.
There is a trick to giving the battery a quick charge which will give it enough juice to boot the phone up and allow it to charge from usb. its not recommended but works.
You will need a spare usb cable, cut one end of, strip the wires back and connect the red wire to + and the black to - on the battery, only do it for a short period, about 30 seconds while conneted to your computer.
You may need to give it a few 30 second bursts to give it enough juice.
Pop the battery back into the phone and switch it on while pugged into the PC
Took me a few attempts to get enough charge in the battery for it to boot up.
Wizard battery
You can also use a 9V battery to jumpstart your battery. But then you have to be more careful. I connected the 9v battery to my Wizard battery for about 15 seconds, then tried to start up my device. If not successful I started again with 15 seconds jumpstart..
But you can find more information here in the forum: just search for jumpstart or something similar....

Wizard Battery discharge completely
Thank you all for information. 9V battery method didn't work for me. Looking for AC charger online and get a link (http://www2.dustin.se/pd_5010073700.aspx). Do you think this is the right one? If yes, then I can order.
yea that's the right one but if you have a friend with a ppc or maybe a razor you can use there charger most ac adapters are starting to use mini usb just a way of saving some money even though having an ac adapter is good
could also try and get one of those usb plugs that you can plug up to a wall and plug in a usb cable into the slot
but don't take my word for this wit hmy wizard i haven't had it shut all the way day
if anybody can verify this would work
AC charger not also working
I have got the AC charger yesterday. When Connect the Ac charger first time the red light on my wizard showed for just half second then dissappear. Still let that connected for whole night but no response.
Thank you all for help.
@Keland44, most Razr chargers dont work, they MUST be at least 850mA in order for the Wizard's battery to receive anything. The older Razr chargers are sometimes as low as 350mA, but the never ones are as high as 1.2A, so you need to read the label on the charger itself to be sure.

Yup that is about right,
If the battery is complelty dead, then you need to original charger.
If you have got the right charger and you get a red light and it goes off. your phone might have a problem.
This happened to my last wizard after stupidly trying to dry out the screen after getting it wet which stopped the touchscreen working (i was drying it out while the phone was still on) well my wizard crashed.
Took ages to get it back on but it was very unreliable then one day, it wouldnt go on and charger done nothing. Unpluging and pluging the charger in several times got a red light on.
Sometimes i could get it to turn on, the charger would charge for about 5 minutes then the phone would die soon after.
Your phone might possibly be bricked.
