Hello everyone,
Just had a question about the WiFi tether beta this is about the uscc version, I'm posting this here because I couldn't find anywhere else to post it and I did just purchase a sprint version to test on since I have rooted a phone since the s3 and EVO lte. Anyway I have disabled the syncronoss tedc which let me enable foxifi on the phone with out it being stopped and cancelled for not having a tether plan. But when using the latest tether beta it will start with errors is set on auto and will be cancelled if set to native hot spot

I'm getting lots of text of people with ota 2.2's trying to get hotspot, I keep telling them that they should be able to get free 3g hotspot but that theres no known root method for official ota 2.2 yet to unlock 4g wireless tethering. Is it true or am I giving them bad info?
i am not rooted and have no 3g wifi hotspot at all.

hmm and your stock 2.2 or 2.1? Its working for me on cm6, in wireless & network settings, under tethering & portable hotspot I check the portable wi-fi hotspot and it turns on
You are giving them bad info
Sprint does not allow 3G Mobile Hotspot without the additional add-on SOC code for $29.99.
I do not get the OP. He asks us if us non-root ota 2.2 users get 3g wifi hotspot but when i post and say i dont he asks what version and ohh i get it and im running cm6.
Duh......You are rooted and have a different rom.
i know i will not get 3g wifi hotspot without sprints add on. my other account has it but my business one does not.
I got 3g hotspot for the first couple months, but I think they were offering it for free.
if you could get it for free on a non-rooted phone why would sprint be charging $30 a month? because you cant.
Before 2.2 I could get 4G mobile hotspot free. 3G did not work.
After 2.2 neither work.
This was expected.
Froyo's built in wifi hotspot works on Cyanogen rom. Used it to download a 600MB coldfusion server install the other day at work since they block executable downloads
Well if you have Cyanogen, you're rooted. If you're rooted, there's any number of ways of doing this.
I *think* the OP's question (reading between the lines) was something like, I heard 2.2 would have native hotspot capability, so is that true in the official Sprint OTA?
If that's what he's asking, the answer is No, as expected. Yes 2.2 has that, but of course Sprint turns it off in their ROM else they couldn't charge for it.
Lemme make this simple:
IT IS NOT FREE.
(For non-rooted, users of the official OTA)
If people are able to use it now, either Sprint's made an error (like they did with 4G tethering when the EVO first launched), or they're going to be hit with a $30 + tax increase on their bill next month.[/thread]
Hello Everyone,
I am thinking of buying mytouch 4g from craigslist.
I am currently having mytouch 3g will 7 more months contract from tmobile. My main requirements are wifi tether and large screen. Currently my mt3g has small screen so I want to get rid of it... but it has android-wifi-tether from google code site working awesome.
I feel mt4g screen size works for me but I want to make sure that there is android-wifi-tether app available in google code site, because thats an awesome app.
Update - a min ago found some information about visionary about temp root. Just wondering if I could make use of temp root to run this android wifi tether app instead of perm rooting.
Please let me know you comments.
Thank you,
Kris.

Yes, the Android wifi tether app works with Visionary, I think I use 2.5. GL
Awesome!!!!!! nice to hear.
The "stock" wi-fi app works seamlessly for me and has since day one. no extra charges from TMO either, but then I only use tether for at most 10 hours a week and don't do any large downloads I only use it for sites/games that don't work on phone such as Assassins Creed : Project Legacy on Facebook.
All you have to do is open the program list, press the Wi-Fi Hostspot icon, follow the entries to set a SSID and password. I was at a Best Buy looking at a Sony TV with Google TV built. They did not have a Wi-Fi connection in the store. I told the salesman to go to the Connect setting while I turned on the Hotspot on the phone. After entering the WEP key it connected and we watch some youtube videos. Went to Speedtest.net to check speed. Got a 2.3 Mbps down and 1.1 Mbps up. I was impressed due to the fact that it was inside the store.
I have been having a little trouble with the Wi-Fi Calling. It sometimes will not connect. I have to turn off the phone and restart then it will connect. Wi-Fi Hotspot and Calling was the biggest reason I left AT&T to come to T-Mobile. I have really come to like the features and speed of this phone.
Hi guys,
I'm trying to tether my rooted S4 with FoxFi today and it has suddenly stopped working. It was working great until today, but now it launches the stock mobile tethering app (I believe it always did this, even when it was working), but then as soon as it launches, I get a notification that pops up from Verizon which says this feature is only allowed if you pay for a tethering subscription. Then it gives me a couple of options if I want to add that to my plan.
Anyone else getting this?
Suggestions?
Thanks

I searched around before deciding to make a new thread. Did not see anything specific to what I had a question about, unless it is buried deep in another thread.
Is there a suggested de-bloat list for the Verizon Note 3 running on the OB6 Lollipop firmware? For NON-ROOTED phones.
What I have turned off so far has not caused any issues seen yet.
I would like to make sure that the packages that track data usage are turned off, as well as any apps that report back to Verizon.
Would greatly appreciate if someone could post even a partial list to get this started.
I would also like to add that I am using the free version of FoxFi and tether is working!
You install FoxFi, then when you try to check the start tether box for the first time, it will make you setup a lock screen pin/pattern. After that it will install a certificate.
Once you have that done, when you try to enable tether again, it pops up a message that will take you to the Default built in tether. Once you click to enable that, tether starts working.
Here is something odd I noticed.
You can go back into the FoxFi app once you are tethered and working, then turn off tether WITHIN the FoxFi app. The default hotspot app remains enabled and continues to work.
Anyone else notice this? Also wondering if the FoxFi data limit is still imposed after you turn the tether off in its app.

Unless you are on a grandfathered unlimited data plan, Verizon's Hotspot should already be usable even without WiFi. Last I saw...all Verizon tiered data plans included hotspot.

Just curious if anyone else is having issues with getting hotspot to work after the May 8.1 update. It turns on and devices can connect to the hotspot but can't get any connection to the internet. FYI, I'm on Sprint if that makes a difference.
A quick google search shows that Pixel and Nexus users have similar problems, but some have reported that resetting the APN settings fixes the issue. But of course the APN settings are greyed out thanks to the latest Sprint update.
Are there any other work arounds? I was hoping I wouldn't have to root, but am willing if that's the only way.
Working fine on Verizon

I'm on Sprint too and I never had issues with hotspot tethering since every updated from N to O. Also, my APN's settings are editable.
My phone is on stock rom and never been rooted.
No issues on stock with tethering on T Mobile
No longer working for me with the may update on sprint. Hotspot isn't on my plan though
FYI, turns out the April 8.1 update still works, so don't update to the May one if you need hotspot.
Thanks for the replies everyone. Gotta love Sprint I guess...
It stopped working with the May update for me. I added net.tethering.noprovisioning=true to my build.prop and it's working again.
I'm running the Android P beta and wifi hotspot was broken te moment I installed the May update...
How would one edit the build.prop?
Looking for help to get working again. Anyone have any luck? I am not rooted. Hotspot worked great before 8.1 update.
Thanks,
MJC
Same thing happened to me, tethering stopped working after the May update on my essential phone using Sprint.
I reset to the April version from essential's current builds (Oreo 8.1 - OPM1.180104.141) and it started working again for me.
I had to edit the flashall script following the advice from reddit. Search reddit unable_to_flash_official_images_using_fastboot (I am a new user so cannot post links).
