Taking the plunge. - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Getting ready to finally flash a ROM on this device
But I have a few questions:
1: if I make a backup in twrp is anything not backed up that it's important like imei?
2: is anything still broken in cm11 or Bliss that matters? WiFi/mic issues are my concern
3: is battery life better than stock in these Roms?
I know these are noobish questions and I've been here for a while now. But I really don't want to buy a new phone because I lost my imei.

I suggest you [downgrade to JBBL] before you start flashing custom Roms. KKBL Roms still have various issues.
I just downgraded and started using [cj360's unofficial AOSPA] builds, and they are smooth... and totally worth the downgrade.
EDIT:
#1 Don't worry about it, you're fine. Flash away!
#3 Battery life has always been the same for me. YMMV

Thanks if battery life does not help I will then remain stock for now... Maybe wait and see if L comes to this device via dev

Typically custom ROMs will have slightly worse battery life than a well-debloated stock build. Maybe they have some closed source optimizations we don't know. You will eventually have to get used to custom ROM's battery life if you want to stay up to date in Android version.

[WARNING: XDA Premium 4.0.13 lacks Signature function - do not update]

I've been running ROMs on my other devices for quite some time. This phone is just one I don't want to mess up. As for the batt life my tab 2 does amazing on kitkat.... So was hoping the battery drain that kitkat stock causes was fixed in another rom. I know I could go back to jb stock but I really don't want to.
Like I said I'll just wait and see of someone brings L to this device.

Sure you can. Just head into the Original Development section and take your pick. I personally use franco's kernel, but there's lots of other good ones to pick from.

Please help find a kernel???

I am going to root my nexus but am not going to install a custom ROM because what am running right now is fine but I want to install a custom kernel to remove the lag and have good battery life also stability someone please help am new to nexus 7 but not too rooting or installing customer Roms

If you are not the new to flashing then you are not new to xda and should know we aren't just going to hand things to you if you don't wanna do it yourself. Try them out and find out what you need.

Could just browse around the forums, people tend to advertise their kernels quite a bit in their sigs.

Any one reverted back to 4.2.2

Just asking who has flashed 4.3 then found its full of bugs and then reflashed 4.2.2 !!

Me, just now.
Was unhappy with the scrolling (stuttery & laggy - to me it seemed like the touch sensor was being polled less because while your finger was touching & moving, the screen scroll stuttered, when released, it continued its scrolling smoothly)
Also, WiFi was sometimes not reconnecting - had to either reboot or forget / re-join.
also had an issue with the camera flash failing to operate after 3 or 4 photos.
I was beginning to think I was imagining my N4 was nice an smooth - but I got so annoyed with 4.3 I unlocked & flashed 4.2.2 factory image. IT Is DEFINITELY smoother.
Screen stutter/lag can be rendered by checking "hardware overlays" in dev options

I've flashed a couple of 4.3 ROMs starting with stock but keep going back to LiquidSmooth v 2.9. I don't see any degradation in performance with 4.3, I have been getting better battery life from LiquidSmooth.
There were a couple of apps that I use that were not performing well with 4.3. I decided to flash back to cm because of this. It was mainly Swype that was driving me crazy. I'm unsure if it was the fault of Swype not being updated for 4.3 or if it was the screen polling of 4.3 everyone is talking about.

Still on 4.2.2 lol Never upgraded...:victory:

I don't see hardware overlays. Do you mean "disable HW overlay " or "force GPU rendering" ?
These were default (I.e not disabled and not forced)
Im not sure these would help?!?!
I tried 4.3 two times, but after a few hours I reverted back to CM10.1 :silly:
I'll wait for good and stable custom kernels, and for good custom ROM's.
It's me. I expect 4.3 very much. I update to stock 4.3, Titanium can't remove system app. So I tried to use PA rom, version 3.91, while I'm download PA rom, I detect a new version of PA, version 3.92. I'm very suprise with PA group speed, they're provide rom patchs continuous. And I had to download from beginning. After that, I install new rom with a big expectation but titanium still can't remove system app. Finally I had to restore to PA 3.69 by TWRP and wait a new rom version :crying:
Tried a custom CyanogenMod 4.3 Build, but I prefer to stay with the "current" nightlies right now.
Theres a reason why they didnt start rolling out nightlies already.
A question, where did you get the CM build? Is it from the team itself or was it made by someone else?
4.3, same on the outside, fubar on the inside.
My fears about the head honcho of android chrome being made head of the whole OS have come to bare.
If it wasn't for the fact that 4.3 fixed the double dial issue for us Solavei users id go back to CM 10.1.2 (4.2.2)

No, mine's working great also on 4.3. Missing the added functionality of custom Roms atm. Just waiting on cm 10.2 to become official:thumbup:

I might revert back. I get several hours less battery time with 4.3 because Android OS "keep awake" is draining my battery. I never had such issues with 4.2.2. :/

I quite like the stock rom....kinda sad Matr1x only supports the JSS build....might flash a JSS rom...or maybe build it myself.
But yeah, I'm happy with 4.3. Never had any issues with OTAs

Everything seems to be working well. I couldn't test BLE, because I don't have a BLE device, but otherwise everything seems to be fine.
Yea I went back to 4.2.2... I'll wait for liquid smooth too upgrade to 4.3 before I flash another ROM.

Noob 4.3 ROM question

I'm a noob to tables but have done many flashes to my phones. My main question is, I'm rooted and ready to flash a ROM to my Nexus 7 but I'm confused about a few things. I'm running firmware 4.3 so do I need to flash a ROM that's made for 4.3? I'm interested in the Carbon ROM but it doesn't state that it for 4.3.
I'm interested in a stable ROM that has a lot of customizing options. Any suggestions?
Thanx in advance for helping out a Noob!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
ROM = Firmware
Flashing ROM = Flashing different Firmware
If you flash a 4.2.2 ROM over a 4.3 STOCK ROM, then you will have 4.2.2, and nothing about your device will be 4.3
just to verify, you have the old Nexus 7 right?
Yes, old Nexus 7. Thanx! Now I feel comfortable trying some Roms.

There could be partition issues when you have the wrong one.Like there was with the 4.2 update. If you flash a 4.2 rom onto a 4.1 bootloader your whole data will get moved into another /0 folder

The nested 0 folders was a recovery issue, not a bootloader one. Neither CWM nor TWRP could initially deal with the new multi-user directory structure. Koush and Team Win promptly updated their recoveries to resolve it.

I've been very happy with RasBeanJelly. It has a good cross between features, speed, and light-weight. It tends to be quite stable. I ran it for about 7 months, until I decided that l decided I needed more excitement in my life and jumped to a bleeding edge ROM. Depending on how the new ROM does/does-not develop, I may go back.
Before you go changing ROMs, make sure you are ready. Then make sure you are really ready. After a couple of times you may actually be ready. Look around, and you will find some guides. Here's a good place to start: Flashing Guide. The biggest issue I have had is making sure I have a good BACKUP and RESTORE strategy that works.
Good Luck,
-John
Slimbean 4.3 beta 3 is pretty feature-rich and is a beta in name only...it's been rock solid for me. Get it at www.slimroms.net
Thanx for the ROM suggestions! I been running CyanogenMod Ver 10.2 Unofficial and I like it but now I'm ready to try some more Roms. I've got the hang of flashing stuff again so now I feel comfortable trying some new stuff.

LG stock Rom is complete beast.
I had Sony Xperia Arc and the device got slower and slower for each official update. Marketing strategy.

currently my opinion is du and mahdi. Houston, omnirom and mokee. Their all in development but are pretty stable and fun to test. The first four have stocklike batterylife. Which is really good. And great performance.
I recommend to try them on for size, at own risk.
granted stock is awesome also

Something almost everyone can agree is that stock is the best on term of stability. Rest of stuff that people tell you why stock is the best is just their opinions.

"What is the best ROM" "Which ROM do you use the most" etc are bad thread topics and will result in this thread being locked, Ask a moderator if you don't believe me.
Mahdi rom is the best for me, give it a try
As you can see, everyone has their own opinion of "Best" and this is why these threads are closed and not allowed
Only YOU can decide what is BEST for YOU by backing up and trying a few.
