Sure you can. Just head into the Original Development section and take your pick. I personally use franco's kernel, but there's lots of other good ones to pick from.

What kernel?

Hey everyone... Just got home from buying my nexus 4... rooted a few minutes ago and got pa installed. Some of the kernels I used on my galaxy nexus aren't here which I'm sure will be OK.... Are there any kernels that stand out above the others in any way?
Thanks for the help!

I'm using Franco Milestone M1 kernel. Seems to be a great combo with PA with about 4.5-5 hrs of SOT. But try other kernel for yourself and see which one is best for you.

I have tried every kernel here, and the best one that works for me is the enhanced stock kernel. Can under clock, under volt and is the snappiest one . Battery life is good too, plus touch control also works

Link?
Will this be compatible with 0.33 radio and tmobile lte?
It is the enhanced 4.2.2 stock kernel by Faux, you can download it from the first page of his thread.
Yes, it should work fine with .33 radio and LTE.

that has nothing to do with flashing kernels. dont listen to anyone that says they recommend to, theyre clueless. btw, try trinity kernel. and while youre at it, every kernel here is good. find the one that fills your needs and that your device likes best.
OP as pointed out....
Thanks

Quick Question About PA

Hi there, I'm kind of new to this and I really want to flash Paranoid android on my phone
I want to ask if I need to update my kernel to do this otherwise it would mess up my phone (that's what I read somewhere)
If so which one/where would I find how to find out.
Thanks!

Just flash PA it has a kernel included. Simply go into recovery, wipe everything but the sd card. Then install PA and then install Gapps and your done.
Most kernels no matter what will work on any ROM with the same version of android. Lets say stock 4.2.2 kernel can work on almost any 4.2.2 custom rom.
It won't mess up your phone. Just make sure to make a backup. Paranoid Android uses stock kernel. If you are coming from 4.2.1 then u will need to update ur baseband first. If you are on 4.2.2; u should be fine; you can go ahead and flash it.

Thanks for the quick reply! I think I'm ready to flash the ROM. Hopefully I won't break my phone!

just keep a nandroid backup.... and after flashing, u can use a different kernel..... im using franco kernel.... u can try that to imrpove ur battery life and it has many other customization options..... or install franco updater, it flashes the kernel easily and automatically......

If you are not the new to flashing then you are not new to xda and should know we aren't just going to hand things to you if you don't wanna do it yourself. Try them out and find out what you need.

Could just browse around the forums, people tend to advertise their kernels quite a bit in their sigs.

[Q] Which ROM?

Hi guys, i want change ROM on my N4 but I'm very undecided on which rom choose: CyanogenMOD, Paranoid or AOKP.
In your opinion what are the pros of the different rom to decide which one to use?
Read each ROMs respective thread and try them out for yourself, that's the only way you'll find the ROM that's right for you

Agreed, although I use the same setup as yours so I think that's saying something.

And the best kernel? It better custom ROM's kernel o franco kernel?
There's no best, every device handles them differently. The mods are gonna close this thread

if u want fast try sabermod

If you want some of all then try the PACman ROM! It has features of CM, PA and AOSP

Please post question in the Q&A forum. Also, "best" ROM/kernel threads are not allowed. Read/search and take the incredibly simple route and try them for yourself.

Taking the plunge.

Getting ready to finally flash a ROM on this device
But I have a few questions:
1: if I make a backup in twrp is anything not backed up that it's important like imei?
2: is anything still broken in cm11 or Bliss that matters? WiFi/mic issues are my concern
3: is battery life better than stock in these Roms?
I know these are noobish questions and I've been here for a while now. But I really don't want to buy a new phone because I lost my imei.

I suggest you [downgrade to JBBL] before you start flashing custom Roms. KKBL Roms still have various issues.
I just downgraded and started using [cj360's unofficial AOSPA] builds, and they are smooth... and totally worth the downgrade.
EDIT:
#1 Don't worry about it, you're fine. Flash away!
#3 Battery life has always been the same for me. YMMV
Thanks if battery life does not help I will then remain stock for now... Maybe wait and see if L comes to this device via dev

Typically custom ROMs will have slightly worse battery life than a well-debloated stock build. Maybe they have some closed source optimizations we don't know. You will eventually have to get used to custom ROM's battery life if you want to stay up to date in Android version.

[WARNING: XDA Premium 4.0.13 lacks Signature function - do not update]
I've been running ROMs on my other devices for quite some time. This phone is just one I don't want to mess up. As for the batt life my tab 2 does amazing on kitkat.... So was hoping the battery drain that kitkat stock causes was fixed in another rom. I know I could go back to jb stock but I really don't want to.
Like I said I'll just wait and see of someone brings L to this device.
