Hello, I recently deleted some files and have been trying to recover them. I know there are a few problems to help me but I cannot use them unless I root my phone. I think the only way I can root my particular phone is by downgrading the software to stock and then rooting it. Please correct me if I am wrong. My question is, if I downgrade my software will it delete my internal storage? Also, if I downgrade my software will it affect my ability to recover my deleted files? My phone's information is:
Model number:
SAMSUNG-SM-6900A
Android Version:
4.4.2
Baseband version:
G900AUCU2ANG3
Kernel Version:
3.4.0-2178781

Security Software Version:

VPN v1.4 Relase 1
Also, if I am wrong and this is not the only way to root my phone, please tell me. Or if you know of a way to recover deleted files without rooting my phone, please tell me. Thank you for your time.

Hi, i recently got my Galaxy S4 and wanted to Root it.
Is there a root out for my device?
Specs:
Model Number: GT-I9505

Also i wanted to know some information about rooting.
I know that root is getting admin access but im not sure about ROMS and Kernals
Are ROMS the operating system, so after rooting i can use a different operating system?
What is a kernal and do i need it for rooting or is it just needed for ROMS.
Thanks
Hey there xda.
I received this Galaxy S4 from a friend of mine who I no longer have contact with. For a while, I've tried upgrading from 4.3 to 4.4 using the regular in-phone option with no luck. It goes through the download and installation and optimization of apps but it still stays at 4.3. My friend had told me he had rooted and messed with the software on the phone but that it should be fine. I just can't seem to get the automatic update to work.
When I look in the 'About Phone' option, I see the following:
Software Version: L720VPUEMJA
Hardware Version: L720.08
Model Number: SPH-L720
Android Version: 4.3
Baseband Version: :720VPUEMJA
Kernal Version: 3.4.0-1927016

How do I go about manually updating to the most recent version of Android? I'm a complete noob with this and have never done it before. Can anyone point me to things I need to download and the steps I need to follow to upgrade?

Does anyone know of any root methods? I can't live with this being stock and I want CM12. Towelroot v1 and v3 don't work, and I've seen that there's no known root methods. Maybe there's a way to downgrade?
Anyway, if you can help or at least try to, thank you a lot!
You cannot root or unlock your device at this time. Maybe in the future another exploit will be found, but it is unlikely for quite some time.

Have you tried towelroot yet?
https://towelroot.com/tr.apk
Yes I've tried towelroot. My phone Isn't supported.
Can confirm that neither towelroot or kingo root works.
Downgrade your kernel and reuse towel root. Afterwards you need to update your kernel or it will be very laggy. Have you even read the root guide?
No I haven't read the rooting guide. Can you post a link or point me in the right direction? I have rooted before just none of the usual ways are working. Have read that this phone can't be rooted yet but anyways If that's all I have to do to beable to root this phone just let me know were to look for the Info. Thanks for your help.
