Hi, guys
Please be aware that I am scandinavian and therefore english is not my natural language.
I´m also a noob compared to most guys here, but at least I am curious and want to learn more about android in general.
My case: A Motorola Defy
I had it for some years, repaired the Gorilla Glass and speaker.
But now the entire front is smashed !
When I start the device its just som bright colors in the splittered display
And I want to access some of it contents if possible.
What can i Do ?
- Some kind of recovery operation?
I hope its possible without the touch and /or insert of a PIN code.
(now the simcard is in my new phone anyway) I consider the phone as lost and therefore
it could be a great challenge to learn hacking or a way to carve the data out of it ... amateur forensic.
I would like to get the "tasks" thats was on my phone.
storage on internal card, etc. What else do you recommend ?
I have maybe forgot lots of things, what is on my phone (obvious I haven't missed it yet)
And whats the general steps to take in this case? before migrating and throw it to the trashes i.e ....
What about my old motoblur account, should i remove it?
Greetings

Dear Forum Users,
fist of all sorry for the fact that my first post is a request, a question and not a contribution - but im really dependent on your knowledge.
Despite the fact that in general it is not recommended to change the cover of your mda (or xda etc) I did it, and seem to have f***** up my display. The device itself is working just fine, i can do active sync, the taping also works (when i switch it off and guess where the yes button from "do you really want to turn off your device" is it actually shuts down properly). the thing is that i dont see anything, its just plain white.

when dissecting the unit i disconnected the connector from the display to mainboard in order to unmount everything (unfortunately i discovered afterwards that i could also have done it without connecting - dumb philipp :/ , but right now that doesnt change anything for me)
has someone dealt with a problem like mine before? i would be really thankful for any hints or advices to get my baby back to life, otherwise my old vk2000 will be my companion for the next 6 months (i shiver when i just think of it).
thank you in advance,
Philipp
Have you tried to disassembled, and than reassembled it again?
some times the display flat cable, isnt fuly inside the connector...
there is a possibility that you f*** up the connector, but for determine that we need a macro picture of it.
yes i messed with the connector indeed, but as the pins of the strip were down i thought the black piece wont be of that much importance (i can remember i ****ed one up at a regular mobile yrs ago and it was still working)
can i get that thing back to life if i try to squeeze the 2 black parts (formerly one piece) back in or do you say its over?
thank you for your quick reply btw, i appreciate!

That is not good. i dont think you can do anything but send it to repair. maybe they can replace the connector.
ok, i will call them and check how much it is and if it is even worth having it repaired... if not, then i have a defective compact for sale :/
shayd, thank you!

Hi,
Corporate security has become a real pain area for me.....and as a result im not allowed to carry my phone (Elfin) to work....or will be stopped soon...I cant sneak it in forever So anyone here know how to completely remove the camera? Like entirely from its casing leaving no traces behind. I've already seen the sticky on this forum on disassembling the touch...though it doesnt work for me. Would the guys at the HTC service center be of any help? I'm a die hard WM user...and dont wanna have to give it up. I've seen the Blackberry/Nokia E series and other handheld devices without cameras...and they all suck Id really appreciate any inputs on this from anyone. Alternatively, are there any good WM devices without cameras?
Thanks in advace.

Thnx for reading already it must have been hard......to understand....
you all,can reply here or on [email protected]
thnx in advance,take care folks!
If you have insurance cover then claim it if possible
Your LCD seems to be having problems. LCD and digitizer come as one unit. There has been not much success seperating them without damage..
So you need to buy LCD+Digitiser set. Search E-bay.
You can read these threads for more info on this topic and also use search.
You can find the service manual here
Lastly if you are uncomfortable opening it your self you can search for repair stores on the net.
Hope it helps a little.

Hello xda-developers forum,
I realize this has been asked before, and I've read through many threads here and elsewhere, but I'm not getting a definitive solution that works for this particular situation.
Here are the details:
Phone Model/Make: Google Nexus 4
Carrier: Wind Mobile (Canada)
Screen is cracked/broken, completely black.
USB debugging is not enabled.
Completely stock ROM, have not made any customizations to the phone.
I have adb set up on my laptop, but don't know how to proceed in terms of loading into bootloader (?) and flashing, pulling data, etc.
Mostly only need to retrieve photos and videos. Already synced with Google for contacts (but not photos, unfortunately).
If you need more information, please let me know.
Is there any way I could retrieve the photos or are the precious memories lost forever?
Thanks in advance!
I dont know what cause you that problem.
but i suggest you to install driver on the computer and with tool box install stock rom in your phone.

Installing stock ROM would wipe his device, if he were able to, which he obviously can't.

A new screen should work, as long as that's the only thing that's damaged. It's up to you whether it's worth the $45 for a new screen assembly or $60 for the entire front unit (less frustration and possibility of screwing up than just the screen assembly) to save the photos on your phone. Those are USD amounts - I don't know how that translates into Canadian or if shipping will be extra. Swapping screen assemblies on the Nexus 4 is actually fairly easy - especially if you buy the assembly already installed with the bezel. I've done it myself probably 20+ times trying to get mine to work (I eventually did). There's plenty of teardown guides and videos on youtube on how to do it. Get yourself a new battery while you're at it, for $20. Maybe you've already replaced your phone, but either way you can get practically a new phone for $45-80 depending on what you want to replace, or a cheap back-up (always good to have) for whatever you've replaced it with. Plus all your precious memories back.
You cannot unlock the bootloader without losing everything so your best option to restore important data is to replace the screen. The battery is glued pretty hard to a breakable piece so watch one of the YouTube videos and decide what all you want to replace. Ifixit had a good video that I used when I had to replace the logic board in mine.
Dear all,
I've performed an exhaustive search all over internet and in particular in XDA developers site and I could not find any information.
First some background just for info:
We are an amateur group that launches high altitude balloons to the stratosphere. There we take photos, videos, we measure temperatures, accelerations, pressure... (I guess it is quite known the HAB activities). Apart from other equipment’s (arduino based) and payloads, we always send an android phone as a recovery system as we can send an sms to the phone to ask its gps location. We also takes some photos during the flight with the phone camera and record GPS, the accelerometer and gyro data.
We would like to save some mass (to reach higher altitude) so we are thinking to launch only the motherboard and the battery. I have tested it with my galaxy S2: I opened it, extracted only motherboard (usb included) and battery (with no screen at all) and I could switch on, and operate it through MHL (hdmi) and a bluetooth mouse.
So we decided to buy a second hand galaxy note 3 (better camera resolution, battery, more sensors...) with a broken screen as no needed.
The note 3 works perfect with the screen attached again via mhl (even though the screen was not working). BUT when I remove the screen, the phone cannot be switched on... it enters and endless bootloop.
I guess that this is because the boot process checks somehow the presence of the screen.
Now the real question:
Do you know if there is any method to use the phone without the digitizer plugged?
Maybe replacing or reconfiguring the boot/kernel/rom to avoid the screen check? No problems at all with voiding the warranty (is a destroyed second hand device) or rooting, or flashing...
Many thanks!
Blunder
p.s. Sorry for my bad English

I know this is not what you are asking (which is interesting in itself) but why don't you leave the digitizer plugged? It should be like just 1mm or so, and only a few grams.
Maybe this is unclean workaround: how about let the phone completely booted and remove the digitizer?
I would suggest disabling the digitizer and/or display in a custom kernel build first -- if you can get the device to still boot fully, you can try removing the hardware connections. If it doesn't boot, then you need to figure out what in the OS relies on these features.

Thanks xclub101
Our workaround is indeed that one, to remove everything appart from the digitizer (frame, glass, wacom...). But we also thinking in volume reduction that also impacts weight. Considering that we are tipically launching 500g, 50g is 10% that in terms of balloon ceiling could be 3 or 4 km (not that much, but in any case above our actual limits).
In any case, I do not want to diverge from the original question. That is to use the phone without the digitizer.

Yes, it could be a solution, I will try to do it. However, once integrated within the payload, it could be not so easy to remove it.
And what would happen if there is a reboot during the flight? (sometimes it happens, mainly due to failures in the battery as a consequence of the cold temperatures up there, almost reaching -50ºC). Then the phone wont boot again

Sounds a good solution, but I'm not an expert in kernel customization, nor cooking... If you (or any other) could guide me in how to do it I could try.
Thanks again
