Just bought a brand new S5 and the main reason I want to root is to be able to change privacy settings which can only now be done through root (app ops doesn't work 4.4.2) and I hear xprivacy is way better than that any way.
My question is, how do I root and get xprivacy without tripping Knox? It new so I want to keep my warranty.
Also, if I was to unroot would that trip knox?
So um anyone?
Btw I have the g901f version.
So yeah...
Btw is there even a root for my s5 version? Modl number in previous post.
Try towel root?

Hello,
I updated my Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 with KIES to XXUDMJ7 and right after that I rooted it before activating KNOX on my phone.
After that I wanted to start using KNOX so I clicked the app icon in order to activate it and filled the password to start, but then I got an alert meesage saying that my phone has been changed so KNOX can not be used.
I do want to use KNOX because it seems a nice to have feature to protect my sensetive data.
Can anyone PLEASE help me what can I do in order to enjoy a rooted device and KNOX together ?
Looks like u tripped the knox counter by rooting

Not what was asked... Knox is a program that separates Android into 2 sections, the insecure one that we use rooted and a secure version that stops all apps from doing ANYTHIG that could give out our data. Photo's taken while using the Knox security feature wil only be available in the Knox section.
No, you can't use Knox after rooting as you have now opened up the system to questionable apps unapproved by Samsung...
There is no way I have seen to spoof the system to allow use of Knox security app and have a rooted phone....
Just to know

1) No, Knox stop working, that's all
2) It seems that no with the last firmware ... On our Note 3 with the old bootloader you can root with "Root de la vega" and enjoy Knox... With some S4 that's the same.

My previous firmware was XXUDMJ4 and I had problems with the S-pen, so I updated it to XXUDMJ7.
Can you please tell me what is this update ?
The only reason I rooted my phone is to use "Tasker" and "Greenify" apps.
don't know the change log for the MJ7 update... But i know that with MJ7 (and also MJ5) you have the new bootloader ...
Thank you all

how to root galaxy s4 without tripped knox?
i'm use s4 i9500 I9500DXUEMJ5
thanks for reply
Root
You can't root your phone I9500DXUEMJ5 without tripped knox.
In fact, there is only one solution : use Kingo root app.
But... XDA does not approve this app because it seems send data to China when you try to root your phone with this tool.
Sorry for my english, I hope you understand what I wanted to say.

For people who want to root, no need to say more (if no problem with knox flag) because like it was said before : CF-Auto-Root is the best tool.
Hey XDA. I was seeing that Exposed will allow me to install App ops again in 4.4.2 when it goes OTA .
is there a way I can root my note3 without triping knox? I wont install a new rom or anything. ill just keep the stock firmware. as the stock firmware is pretty sorted with app ops.
Firstly what is your firmware?
And secondly have a search round, you'll see different guides and advice.

MJ3 and above will trip knox... A little looking and reading would find this out.
As for KitKat, might be different method to root when that comes out... Might not be able to use Mobile ODIN Pro to upgade as there have been a few problems reported with the latest firmwares...

hey mate.
im android 4.3
baseband is N9005XXUDMJ7
I was asking (probably in a weird way) I thought I read Knox wont trip if you just gain root! it trips Knox when you install a new ROM after you root it.??
So if I gain root, and just keep the same baseband will that be safe? as I really like app opps in 4.3 I have a public transpot timetable app that wants to read my contact list, my call logs, and other crap! If google wont police these permissions, then I'm sooo happy we have ap ops and with 4.2.2 O/S performance improves so much not to mention lots of security fixes. I would hate to disable OTA updates. and I think the stock samsung rom is so sorted. I dont see the point in installing a new O/S (maybe to debloat, which I agree there is a lot of crap, wish you could do a custom install on your stock samsung to say no I dont want all bloat)
Knox will trip when you root because you have MJ7 - no way around it currently. -
As for OTA updates, all you gotta do is flash back to stock again to make the device official.

Hey guys my baseband is MJ7 and the build is UDMK2, does that mean I cannot root without tripping knox? I think so but not sure. So the baseband/modem has the bootloader in it or the build MK2???

Not necessarily 100% true, the baseband, the system and the bootloader are different things, and you CAN have an older bootloader and a newer system, but NOT the other way around.
However when you only install firmware "the Samsung way" those are kept pretty much "in sync", so in your case you can be pretty certain that you have the new bootloader and you can not root without tripping knox
Technically you could find more precise info on the bootloader with:
adb shell getprop ro.boot.bootloader
Hello Galaxy S4 users.
I recently bought a Galaxy S4 Black Edition.
After going through all Knox and warranty related posts I was not able to make up my mind to root.
So I called up the Samsung Customer Care for clarifying my doubt's.
The representative cleared that Knox has nothing to do with warranty(at least on India) and even if the counter increases to 1 warranty will not be lost.
Only if device status is unofficial then only we loose warranty and flashing stock firmware through Odin resets it to official(telling through personal experience with Tab 3 on 4.2.2)
I have no intention of using Knox and so want to root it.
Yet I would like to know if there is any method to root 4.4.2 without increasing the counter.
Thanks in advance.

You can use 'towelroot' by geohot for rooting 4.4.2 firmware without tripping KNOX.

I already tried that.
Both version 1 and 2.
where as version 2 is said to root without rebooting the device yet my S4 gets rebooted but it doesn't gets rooted.

The firmware installed on your S4 is not compatible yet.. what version do you have?
NC1

You can try to ask on the official towelroot thread if anyone has successfully got it working on that firmware.. or instead, you can email geohot for help
Hi,
I rooted Note 3 with towelroot recently and my knox is still 0 and would like to keep it that way. Would also like to keep all my settings and apps if possible too. I haven't flashed any roms or anything like that. Only thing I've done is grant some of my apps root access and downloaded an app that required root (which since then I've uninstalled). Now however I see a new firmware update is available for my Note 3 and would like to update to it. I'm sorta new to the Android scene, so don't know where to start to do this, so would appreciate any guidance.
Is there also anything I should do while on root before I unroot?
Thanks
@XLAAX you dont need to unroot to upgrade firmware. Use odin method to upgrade it.
You will find it on sammobile

So what will happen when I unroot using this? Will the phone be unrooted again or will it keep root? Also will knox be tripped using this method?

Hmm, I was under the impression that you need to unroot your phone to upgrade the firmware. If this isnt the case, then no real need to unroot I suppose.
What about Android L? Will I need to unroot for that? (Realise you can't predict such a thing, but has there ever been a case where you needed to unroot for an android firmware?)
EDIT: Oh and for future knowledge, how should I handle OTA updates? Should I not update that way if I'm rooted?

I dont know about towel root I used cf auto root and I upgraded to 4.4.2 after rooting.
