Anyone else have a slightly loose home button? Mine is only very slightly loose but it regularly looks misaligned. I think the problem is the cut out for the button is actually a little bigger on one side so there is room for it to wiggle up and down. I can tell this because of the lines across the bezel. I don't think it is enough of a problem to return it on warranty so it will probably slowly drive me mad over the next few months. I'll take a picture later to try and show it.

Nope, it isn't loose at all on my phone. You should try and change it - after all you payed a lot of money for this phone.

It seems to be the same problem the Note 3 had. From reading that it seems there might not be much point point sending it back as users who did got the phone back and it still had the issue. Might see about swapping it for a new unit with the retailer I bought from
Here is a couple of pics, it was really hard to get it to focus for some reason despite me having a good camera? But you can see it is crooked with the left side higher than the right, you can even see the small gap along the top of the button towards the right side in the pic where the screen is on.
Mine has a distinctive click sound when i press it and takes a bit more force over the note 2

I even compared it to the note 3 they also had on display and it felt identical. It looks to me like its a common "feature" for the note series. Looking at the disassembly videos on youtube shows that the button isnt really adheared to anythingand iis simply pinched between the frame and glass. With that knowledge, its easy to understand why the button has some play in it without worrying too much about it. Even if you swap it for another one, its gonna be the same with maybe a slight difference in tolerences but overal it will be loose sooner or later. Same story goes for the power and volume buttons.
As for me however, ive got this is issue with the oleophobic coating right under the home button which according to Videotron in Montreal Canada, Isn't covered by warranty even if the phone is only a week old!! For some reason the oleophobic coating is missing under my home button which leaves a bunch of fingerprints just under it. Its a pain to look at especially since its freaken brand new and shouldn't have this happening so early on. But so far Videotron has NOT honored any kind of replacement warranty to me and informed that so long as it doesn't hinder the usability of the device, its wont be covered. I think Thats the lamest after sale service Ive hade to date and can't believe that they don't stand behind their products.

Yeah I think you're right. The little bit of play I don't mind but it seems the resting position for the button on my phone is always slightly crooked. Nobody else even notices it until I point it out to them. I've emailed Samsung to see what they say but I think I'm just resigned to living with it.
Thats crap about you oleophobic coating, I find with new phones it wears off after a few months anyway so eventually the whole front will be a fingerprint magnet!

how much play is there now, compared to before? my note edge has a similar "problem". not really a big deal for me personally,
but it's kind of annoying. it's not very noticeable though, i have to look real close to even see any crookedness.
i can barely notice that my home button ever so slightly moves if i push it with my fingernail, but it's not like it's loose or anything.
i guess this is just the way it's supposed to be. working as intended and all that.
still wish the home button would be like the one on my note II. not jiggly, and nearly no clicking sound.
Every Galaxy devices I've come across, whether in the stores or personally speaking, have a misaligned home button, looks more prominent on one side compared to the other. Unfortunately, shows Samsung's innovation. I've been through over a dozen Note 4's, the AT&T variants had an extremely loose feel, whereas the T-Mobile variant is just about right.

Shouldn't require too much force. The click shouldn't be too loud and tacky, the sound be soft.

When going through the return and exchange process for the Note 4's, each home button had its distinctive feel, some felt squishy on the left side with a significant gap between the right side and display. One home button even had a noticeable scratch on the aluminium part of the button.
Regarding the Oleophobic coating, its advised to never clean the display with water or oily hands. Install a screen protector from day one. 70% isopropyl alcohol is the way to go.

If you press hard enough you can actually re-position and resettle the button more to the right to fill that gap you were referring to. I've felt buttons in the which which felt like something protruding through the middle as I move my index finger from left to right (edge-to-edge) on the home button.

It will look slightly crooked to you because Samsung never added adequate cushioning to keep the button centered. Overtime, the button will settle itself. Some Note 4's, even as seen in previous Galaxy phone, have light from the capacitative phones leaking between the gap of the home button and capacitative buttons; best seen in dark-room settings.

Over time, the home button wears off a bit. Every Galaxy device I've owned, I've always added a piece of scotch tape on the home button to not mess up with the alignment, etc. Everytime it came to reselling the device, the home button would feel as new to the subsequent owner as it did to me.

Its definitely the way its supposed to be. Some home buttons will even appear flushed / recessed whereas some will even looked elevated sticking out from the display. Samsung doesn't take this into account in their QC process, because they add the minimum adhesive to make the plastic home button work. If they had changed their materials and design a bit, would have made a dramatic difference; but they didn't since the Galaxy S2 days.

To say the issue doesn't exist, doesn't mean you're wrong, its just how far your eyes can see. The majority paid over $700 for a device which is suppose to compete with the inferior iPhone. Samsung had to make some compromise somewhere. Samsung believes and priorities in profits and margins, manufactures virtually everything in the IT Sector, and doesn't have the caliber to keep a quality control basis or invest in the amount of innovation compared to Apple; however the INTERNAL technology in Samsung's phones will always be superior, because they innovate and design them, from SoC's to Display technology ; Apples priorities their development based on innovation, patents, and EXTERNAL design more over their profits and margins, their most recent report is mere coincidence.

the left side of the button i would say. it's literally almost nothing at all, but for the "trained eye" it might cause some headache.
i suppose the only thing to do about this is to accept things the way they are.

don't know exactly what you are referring to when you say faults in the display, but as far as i know i haven't noticed
much to report, except for some weird and very light tendencies of "shadow artifacts" to the left of the app icons
on my edge display. this is only something i barely was able to see if i scrolled up and down through the edge display.
the app icons caused some darkened areas on the left side of the edge display, but this is hard to depict and
probably just me seeing things. if i covered the edge display with a piece of paper the effect was no longer to be seen.
if i removed the paper, the "shadows" were still there. (only covered the app icons, and by doing this the shadows disappeared while scrolling).
we could go on like this for ages though, there will always be something.. :laugh:
i'm also keen on getting my hands on either the note 5 / note edge II (?) or the S6. the note edge is by all means a fantastic device,
and i'll stick to it until i feel the urge to move on. S6 / S6 edge = just around the corner :good:
Yep, the display issues are less visible on the Note Edge thanks to the curved area which tends to mask the tint effect. The shadowing is as a result of the Pentile Matrix used on the display, not a true RGB panel. However, close-enough. Samsung is a funny company nowadays, sometimes releases phones with AMOLED sRGB panels and sometimes Pentile. The best display to date was on the Note 2. I don't know why I was so keen on selling that beast.

The shadow you are are talking about is an anomaly as a result of Samsung's manufacturing of the curved screen. Not all the screens are curved equally. In each and every screen has a slight variation as seen in the regular Note 4 as well. Samsung has gone to far. They can't maintain consistent quality control. There's a thread in the accessories section of the forum for the Note 4, and many are reporting how substandard the screens are in terms of equal curvature on both sides. I'm very sure the same principle applies to edge, where on Note Edge might have a greater degree of curvature compared to another Note Edge Unit. This is why I didn't purchase the Edge this time around. It always takes eons for Samsung to understand what we all are facing with their products. It took them four years to correct the black color in their AMOLED screens, 5 years to figure out a metal frame was more viable than plastic frame, and the list goes on. Sam-sung needs to start listening to their customers if they want to regain trust, business, and move beyond the competition.

very true my friend. and yes, the edge is a new concept, at least in this format. S6 will also be available with a curved screen they say.
quite interested in seeing what changes they've made, if any, and how the display acts accordingly.
all these minor issues is evidently a biproduct of innovation. truthfully i must admit i'm quite impressed samsung
has the balls to step up their game and try out new things, even though this edge concept might still be in its early stages
of development, and there are many things that could be improved. i hope they'll find a way to polish things correctly. if they do,
this might be a potential game changer. we'll find out, sooner or later :good:

Hopefully the S6 and subsequent generation of Galaxy phones will all be streamlined into one manufacturing standard.

I've heard many people complain about the unresponsiveness of the screen and its yellow tint. How bad is the unresponsiveness for someone who has this phone? Does it bother you that much and slow your typing? Does the yellow tint bother you? I'm coming from the SGS2 and I'm interesting in buying the N4 but I hear so many bad things about it. Additionally, I heard there is a rattle in the phone? I read up on XDA on a poll thread but I think it's normal? What do you think? Is this phone better than the SGS3? (sorry to bring up this phone) and not considering the prices of both devices. I want to forget about the price and just focus on which one will not give me any noticeable problems

i can verify that its not too difficult to press lightly and not have a touch register. although i dont usually press very lightly, so it really depends on the individual. if you normally have a delicate touch you will notice it. personally it doesn't slow me down at all.

I wonder what you mean by 'light'. Are you happy you bought it? did you notice the yellow tint?
The yellow tint can only be seen from extreme angles and I'm doing perfectly fine with the screen sensitivity.

I don't think you will be disappointed by this phone coming from an S2. Most of the "issues" have been blown out of proportion. The rattle being the best example.

The screen is on the warmer side, or may have its gamma off, it's not a yellow tint. You would probably not know the difference unless you compare it side by side with something like an amoled display. Some people have mentioned a yellow tint when you look at it from the bottom left or upper right corners at an angle. This seems normal as it shows a blueish tint from the two other corners.
Rattle?
I checked mine, and to hear this rattle I have to shake the phone vigorously next to my ear and be in a completely quite room to be able to hear it, it doesn't rattle at all if you just grab or move the phone.
Screen sensitivity?
It is indeed less sensitive, for me it sometimes fails to register taps on the home button, but that's about it, it doesn't bother me that much. It depends on whether or not you're used to very light touches.
I don't have any of those issues. My response is excellent and my screen has no tint at all. In fact my N4 has none of the issues being complained about.
I think a lot of the perceived issues are overblown. Typical for a device launch. The few unhappy people post and the majority are happy and don't bother.
It seems you have more motivation to go on a board if you're having an issue than if you don't. I experienced the same thing with the gnex launch (again flawless phone) and nexus 7 launch (flawless tablet).
I don't think I'm just lucky, I just think you're more likely to find those with issues posting.

It is indeed less sensitive, for me it sometimes fails to register taps on the home button, but that's about it, it doesn't bother me that much. It depends on whether or not you're used to very light touches.

Thanks I think I'm becoming more persuaded towards the SGS3 because I love AMOLED and I'm just too worried about this phone in general.. I'm not sure what you mean by light touches though.. I usually handle my SGS2 with one hand so I kind of press densely but maybe it is not enough.. Is it hard enough, for instance, that if you press your thumb on your forearm, that your skin will bend down (not sure if thats a correct word) a bit? Or does it stay still? I would say my skin moves a bit following my thumb..
I've had neither issue but I've also had no heating issues either and people keep complaining about that too.
My screen isn't yellow-that seems like some isolated batch.
The only time my nexus 4 heated up was when I was downloading several apps, watching youtube on 3G and charging the phone all at the same time. It cooled down very quickly afterwards.
I have grown to prefer the 'touch error' of this screen, I came from an SGS2 which has a super-sensitive screen (it can be activated by hovering close to it), often a swipe or light touch would register as a single point touch and take me elsewhere in the phone, especially with one-handed use. Now, though, I actually have to press something to select it. Swipes don't register as single point touches, an errant finger in one hand use mostly won't register, which is brilliant IMHO. I prefer it.
Choosing between the N4 and SGS3 is the hardest thing in my life so far. Just kidding. I hate the SGS3's design and I think the N4 is the most sexy beautiful beast in the world. Anyway, thanks a lot of the replies guys but I have... a possibly last query.. What would you guys do if you had a change to pick again from both of those phones?

Then I don't think you will have a problem with screen sensitivity. The most compelling reasons to get this phone are the stock android experience, future upgrades availability, and its solid build, it feels great in your hand. You will have to weight those attributes versus your preference for amoled screens. I have a Samsung 7.7 tab which has one of the best amoled screens I've seen and great hardware, but the lack of support and SW upgrades sort of makes the Nexus 7 a better option.
My screen does not look yellow to me, but it can depend on what phone you just came from. To me the green in some apps is not as vibrant as it was on my HTC One S.

No yellow tint on my screen, however the screen sensitivity is slightly less responsive than the Galaxy S III, but should'nt be too much of an issue. I would recommend the Nexus 4 due to the price, pure android experience, and the first to get updates.
When speaking of touch sesitivity you need to keep in mind that you are talking about a capacitive screen. That means it senses the capacitive charge setup from your finger and the screen. This can be effected by your skin, oil/dirt on your skin/screen, moisture content and temprature of the air. For these reasons it is very difficult to accurately compare the opinion of your touch to someone else's opinion of their touch.

Battery life isn't as good as the GS2, nor is the speaker or build quality and there is no Micro SD slot or removable battery. What is also annoying is seeing my friends I noticed that black levels were more of a grey, I just cannot get used to non OLED screens any more. There isn't really any improvement over the GS2, the only thing you can say is specs but the Nexus 4 is hardly the king, it's lagging behind the competition even with it's superior hardware, purely because of build quality from LG.
I was excited for the Nexus 4 but unless you cannot afford a Smart Phone and the £280 price point is perfect for you then there is no reason to buy it. I'm just gonna get the GS4 on my upgrade next year.
I came from a Galaxy SIII , and I couldn't be any happier. My battery life is much better, the screen has no yellow hue to it that I can see, even at weird angles, the touch screen couldn't be any more sensitive in the opinion (its just as sensitive as my sgs3 was) , the rattle is there, but you have to have the ear piece right up against your ear to hear it at all, if not it barely audible. To me, this phone is the best Android device I've ever owned, and I've owned ALOT of them. One more thing, this is the best screen ive ever seen on a smartphone too. Text is extremely crisp, colors are true to life, and it is really bright!
I hope this, and everyone else's posts have calmed your concerns about the Nexus 4. To be honest , you be missing out on an amazing device if you chose not to get it because some people are overly dramatic .

This Nexus 4 crap is really perplex.. I don't know if to buy it or not. The price doesn't matter right now, I just want a good smartphone with a lot of development teams and sexy design along with good specs. To be honest, I saw the SGS3 on a store and I used it and the screen is amazing but if i get like 1 inch close I can actually see pixels .-. And additionally, I HATE the design. But if there's no other better choice I'll get it. What do you guys recommend? forget about the price please.

The display on this is my favorite. Displaymate also says this is the most accurate display on the market today. As we all know, this is not the case with samsung phones and the blacks are purely black and really make the images pop. Oh, and for all the people that complain and say the screen it too vibrant? You realize you basically have a TV in your pocket, right? Go to the settings and CHANGE it do a different mode. Cinema mode is what seems to be the most accurate.

The back, still being faux leather, still feels very nice in the hand and personally.. I like a plastic back. When I owned the HTC One I was way to scared to set that thing down without a case because I didn’t want to either, A, mess up the screen. Or B, mess up the nice metal backing. Not to mention in the winter it can get quite cold to the touch and just isn’t worth the trade-off to me.

Performance on this thing is just incredible. Now I don’t like stock launchers. Even with the Nexus 6 I will be putting Nova launcher on it. So all of that “touchwiz lag” people talk about, I’ve yet to see it no this phone while with my Note 3, the first day you could notice it right off that bat with certain things. Keep in mind, switching the launcher only changes your homescreen, touchwiz is still everywhere else. But.. it’s a lot better than it was.

One thing that I’ve noticed with this phone and that can get quite annoying is the feature to minimize whatever screen you’re on. It’s a really nice feature, but I find myself accidentally activating it all the time when trying to go to my notification tray. I like to swipe down from the corner, and now that is how you minimize the app. So, I now have to adjust a bit and make sure I’m not hitting the corner exactly.

One thing I didn't plan on mentioning with this phone was the whole "gapgate" issue. Because to me, while I could see very clearly in videos that there is some sort of gap, I figured it wouldn't effect anything on a day-to-day basis, if at all. That was until today.
I took my phone out of my pockets (it's the weekend, I'm wearing only sweats and casual clothes), and sure enough.. there was lint or something at the top of the display. So I had to actually take a receipt I had laying around to dig it out because sadly, my nails would not suffice.

Conclusion:
Other than the small gripe I have with the minimizing the window and the.. I'm not even sure if it should be a big deal to me or not, gap issue, this phone is absolutely incredible.
However, if you're ready for an upgrade, wait until the Nexus 6 is out officially before deciding on whether you should get this, the Nexus 6, or for you Verizon folk, the Droid Turbo.

Turn off multi window if you don't use it and it won't minimize window
You can turn of the swipe to minimize gesture but still keep multi window on but you'll have to activate it by holding the back button
I've seen the discussions on screen scratches but didn't find any posts about this issue so I wanted to share.
Noticed a "bubble" or "ripple" under my glass today. There is no screen protector on my device. It's not very noticeable when the screen is on but in bright light it does stand out, especially with the screen off.

This is a Verizon S6 edge 64GB Black purchased at Best Buy in-store. I visited there today to exchange it but they did not have a replacement in stock but said they had no issues swapping it out and are going to call me.
Anyone else seen this?

For the galaxy s6 black, for me i have the same issue but it's not affect the screen . On my S6 edge gold the screen is perfect ! no bubble ! For samsung it's totally normal !
I have a similar minor bubble too that is noticable only if I really hunt for it. Don't sweat it, every phone will have some minor insignificant defect. As long as it doesn't hamper your user experience or the device durability in any way, it's best yo ignore these and enjoy the phone instead. Speaking out of experience of having over half a dozen Samsung phones
I've returned my phone because of a bubble. There was One little bubble on the black area just above the menu button. It was a minor issue, but I couldn't ignore it, I knew it was there. You say don't sweat it, but I want my €850 phone to be perfect. Even if that means sending my phone back for One lousy bubble that isn't even visible if you don't pay attention to it.

I noticed a ridge right down the middle of the screen when I was surfing websites with the Edge phone on its landscape side.
The ridge looked exactly like the the rectangle shape if you look at the IFixIt teardown for the S6 Edge.
Found more multiple bubbles under sunlight.
Took the phone into Samsung store and the person told me that a few people have complained about this issue, and that its not uncommon.
I checked their display models and they also had the same issue, although the bubbles and ridges were much worse on the phone I owned.
I ended up returning the phone and now may get a regular S6 unless they fix this issue.

Compared to yours, mine is way milder. In fact it takes me about 5 mins to find at, at the right angle, even though I know exactly where to look for it. It's nearly impossible to capture on camera.
So I take back my words and agree that you should get yours replaced if it's so noticeable!
I had the same issue on my first S6 edge. It never really effected the device but I could see it when the device the screen was off, and I hated it. I called Tmobile and they sent me a new device that is flawless, I'm very happy with it my phone now. I think its probably something to do with the flexible displays.
My first edge had a large ridge/bubble up the center of the screen. My new one has a very small bubble at the top. I'm not worried about it.

I had a scratched screen and got it changed.
My new screen has no scratches. If I look at it at an angle in full-on direct sunlight, I can see bumps under the glass in the screen itself. I was blinded for 10 minutes after it though, because it was under extremely bright direct sunlight. Nothing you would notice under regular use.

I have it too in India. Sad. Though didnt notice after noticing it for the first time. Hardly visible in daily usage.
This is supposedly a known issue. My wife has a black 64GB edge and it had the bubble issue. We returned it to.ATT and they issued us one with a line of ripples in it. We were told to contact our local Samsung rep as they would not open another box. My white 64GB Edge is flawless.
My 32GB black edge from AT&T had a bubble. Only noticed it because I was looking for those scracthes, and I had plenty of them! I would have kept it since the bubble did not bother me as much as the fine scratches.
My 64GB Gold is pretty flawless from what I can tell. Though I am not looking too hard because I am realizing all these devices might have a tiny imperfection when under close examinatoin

Hello guys, I have GALAXY S6 Edge (SM-G925F) 32 GB from Sweden, And i also have a bubble under the glass, I talked with my operator and they said that they would need to take it into repair... what about you guys? did u get it replaced or what? cause i barely used this device 2 weeks feels a bit lame to send it into repair, the device itself ain't cheap to buy here it does cost around 960 euro...
The first unit I got had horrible screen tints. It was pretty much a downward gradient of pink, green, normal, green and pink. It was so bad that trying to read stuff downwards was literally hurting my head. you start from the top and notice the background of the text you're reading keep changing. The first unit also had a volume up button which was defective (I couldn't hear it clicking and when I don't click it at the very middle of the button it doesn't register the click).
Now to my second unit which I got this afternoon. Checked the buttons, perfect. No scratches. Was pretty happy until I got home and updated Android. The moment I saw the screen I was like... "WTF is that". There was literally small dots all over the screen. Diagonal dots which looks the same way a drop of water would look like on your screen (rainbow-ish).
Here's the pattern of the dots. Imagine it smaller and having rainbow-ish colors. (I suck at photoshop and I couldn't capture the problem on a camera.)
Went to a well lit room and checked it out. Yup, wasn't imagining it. Turned of the screen and I could still see the dots. The bad thing was that at closer inspection... TADAAA! A bubble at the top left of the screen.
Here I thought it would be impossible for me to be as unlucky as the people who got 4 replacements units with defects. Bad thing is that my carrier only allows 1 replacement. I'll have to go straight to Samsung and have them replace the unit.
After all the good reviews from almost everyone, this is extremely disappointing. First Samsung phone and their quality control just had to ruin things. This will probably be the last.
How have people fared with returning their Verizon versions? Mine has the lines of bubbles on it and it's a 64GB/Sapphire Black one from Verizon. My wife's has the same thing and hers is 64GB/White one from Best Buy. They only be seen in direct sunlight outside, I figured it was common since we both have them.

A lot if people have been received their S6 Edge phones with defects, either through transit or manufacturing, I am now on my third one in 3 days due to there being a small chip out of the metal trim under the screen and then the earpiece speaker being all fuzzy on the replacement, not to mention one of the others i was offered had a chip out of the metal surround. Luckily my third one now seems perfect (fingers crossed).
Just make sure your phone is perfect before you walk away at the end of the day your paying a lot of money for it and its gonna save you going back and fourth like iv had to lol
I don't know how it works in other country's but here in the UK carriers HAVE to give you 14 days "cooling off period" which enables you to get on the spot exchanges if your unhappy with your phone, or they have to let you cancle your contract.

I can attest to this as I'm about to take the second one back this week. The problem is that it is difficult to do at these stores due to lighting. The first one I return as there was a small (miniscule) circle on the glass, otherwise the phone was perfect (In hindsight I wish I kept that unit). The second unit has a screen that I'm not sure how it made on the phone as it should have been rejected. Top and bottom has green tint, left side had purple tint and top right has the dusty/dirty section that you can clearly see on web browser when reading. Now, the VZW store was extremely nice and agreed to replace my first one with no issues. I'm going back to take the second one back this week.
The issue is with lighting at store and everything is cranked up. Tough to see screen issues on that type of brightness. I can't stand screens that aren't uniform and calibrated, and after reading about Amoled this weekend, I'm not expecting much. I'm hoping third time is the charm, but in all honesty I may just give up on this phone, as I don't really have the time to go back and forth to store every week to play the exchange lottery.

After reading this I thoroughly inspected mine. I guess I got lucky. Verizon 64GB White one and I don't see any issues at all. Sorry to hear you guys are running into issues though :/
T-Mobile 64GB Sapphire BLUE here. As far as I can tell, no defects. It almost sounds like initial batches had/has all the issues, but that's a small sample size. Personally haven't run into any thing related to: straight-from-box screen scratches, screen rotation issues, or color variances.
Only thing I wish it had was a little less sensitivity right above the home button... I keep hitting the area on top of the home button first, and then the button itself.
As for the speaker quality Its hard to tell really because it could be your cell connection affecting the sound quality as well, the problem I had was that no matter who I called it sounded like there with something going "zzzzzttz" "zzttz" as they spoke! As far as I'm aware the sound quality is actually pretty good cranked up full!
Come to think of it the first one I was given also had more of a yellow tint to the whites than the one I have now... Maybe a placebo effect but still something worth mentioning!
Btw : I just checked my display, I have a few,little scratches on my display. Is that normal? (You can only see them with bright light)

Depends on what you mean by normal. Around 30% of people here have reported the scratches.
You all should check for screen non-uniformity. A portion of your screen might be pinker than normal.
Here are pictures I took of my screen. I have a sliver of pink tint at the top and some pink tint at the bottom part. Grays also appear brighter at the bottom part of the screen.
Should I have it changed or this is above average for a s-amoled screen?

I am considering buying a S7 edge but I am really put off by the curved screen. Everytime I look at the phone in some shop, for just few minutes, the design looks beautiful for sure... but when actually looking at stuff inside the screen like images, some Apps, etc it really look bad to me with everyting distorted/curved at the edges.
Anyone else had this feeling? do you get used to it after few days of usage? or for most people it looks ok since the beginning?
I would for sure buy the normal S7 if it was 5.5"

I have the S7EDGE. To me i only bought it for two things, looks and bigger battery. I even disabled all edge features. Its easy to use. Content sure wraps around the edges but its not annoying to me. And the size of the phone is great. Extremely compact for the 5.5 screen it has.
A curve is a distorted straight line, this wil never change. Personally I have no issues with it, I do see what u mean but I consider it a property of the curved edge and it doesn't hinder me in any visual aspect when watching a video or browsing. It also doesn't add anything to the phone for me in terms of usability (I went for looks ) so going for the edge-less version is a good choice also. The bigger battery was also what made me choose the edge.
I came from a Galaxy s5, to the SG7E. Chose the edge for the bigger battery and to give the something-different a try.
I've had the phone for about 3 weeks now and am pretty happy with it.
It's true that the edge of the display will slightly distort image edges but I don't find myself distracted by that at all in normal phone use - web, email, sms, taking pics/video, viewing pics/video, using navigation (Google Maps, Garmin Viago, Locus Pro).
What I have NOT done yet is any gaming, in particular with the Gear VR, so no opinion on that yet.
Its just great. Im not distracted by the edges at all. Furthermore, I love the effect it creates. Even just a facebook app looks more interesting to browse.

That's the point It's like an infinity pool where the water or pixels goes over the edge (hue hue), and that's pretty much the whole "thing" with it. If you're not into the edge, then get the regular "flat" S7. I love the edge though, even though I've disabled every edge feature.
Just should probably check it out in-store once or twice more to see if you like it or not, but I suspect you do like it. Also, there is a small learning curve to learn how to use the curved screen. It does have palm rejection, so it'll detect when your palm rests on the screen while you're using it, but it's just a piece of software, meaning it's not perfect, so you'll get some miss-clicks here and there, but you'll quickly learn how to hold the phone.
Overall, I do not regret getting it. It's pure tech porn.

Yeah, the phone is pretty small for its display size, so no complaints there!

When I first used my s7 edge I too noticed the weird distorted kinda 3d effect near the edges, but you get used to it really fast and when you do those videos and pictures look truly amazing, the in hand feel is great and even though I have large hands barely suffer from the accidental presses. Furthermore if you do find it an issue you can use a case, I personally use spigens tough armor which brings great protection without adding an unpractical amount of bulk.
In conclusion do not worry about it, this is a great phone and you will not regret it

Sure, I get that, and I guess that's true, but I didn't really buy the Edge for the 5.5 inch panel. I bought it for its design, and the 5.5 inch is just a bonus to me. I had an even bigger device prior to the Edge, so the Edge is tiny to me, but again, I already knew that and I don't personally care about "wasted space". I get what you're saying though.
But yeah, go and check it out in a store again and see if it grows on you or not. If not, maybe take a look at the flat S7. It has a smaller screen (5.1"), but maybe it'll fit you better. I have no idea
