So, instead of directions to lead me back home, it's coming up with a search result (ironically the search result comes up with numerous threads of other users experiencing the same issue).
Location settings are all enabled. No luck.
I've signed in and out, and then back in to my Google account. No luck.
I've set the Home address under Places, unset, and then reset it. No luck.
I have personalize search results enabled. No luck.
The only thing I haven't done is a full factory reset.
What's odd is that my friend got a Note 4 exactly the same time I did. And it works perfectly on his phone.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Try saying "go home". Does it do the same thing?
"Navigate home" stopped working since the Note 2. It never worked on the Note 3. Of course this has nothing to do with the Note. Its google that is just stupid and retarded and never fixes anything broken.
Oddly "navigate to work" works like a charm and always has.

Nagivate home was buggy for me with Google. "Ok Google. How do I get home?" worked sometimes. Setup & try S Voice. Navigate home works consistently with S Voice.
Somehow, I fixed this. In case anyone else comes across this same sort of issue. I'm not sure what it was specifically that I did (and it did include a Factory reset).
1. Factory reset (press and hold the power button and volume down button until screen blacks out. On the next screen use the volume button to select Factory Reset >> Press Home button to confirm).
2. Go to https://www.google.com/settings/datatools and under Account management, delete your Google + account, and select both check boxes (not sure if this is requried).
3. Go through phone set up.
4. Go to Google maps and accept terms & agreements. Edit your Places (HOME, WORK, GYM, CAR, SCHOOL) should all be empty now.
5. Type in your home address and click Done.
Seems to work now. Sigh. Had to go through all that bull****, haha.
thanks
thanks fo rthe quick solution.
Strange... It has always worked on my Note 3 and it works absolutely fine on my Note 4 without any help from me. But then again I have always entered my HOME and WORK address in Google Now anyway, so maybe that's the issue for some.

Originally I purchased the 16GB model and exchange it with the 32GB one.
After doing the transfer dance for at least 5 times to get the right department... I finally ended into Galaxy Tab technical support. When I repeated myself for the 5th time... the rep told me: "Samsung Dive, what is that?" So I explained to him... and asked how to remove my tablet. He had no idea and he told me that he cannot remove that tablet id for me.
Does anyone has any experience with this situation? Thanks for your help.

Have you read the faq on samsung dive? If I undestand correct you have to wipe your account from your (previous) tab. If you still can see your old tab, you can test the wipe function . I would use that for sure.
Thanks for the info, I did a factory reset before I exchanged the tablet. But which one to wipe? I don't want to lose all my customizations. I really want to have that extra tablet removed... I proposed to the tech guy to send me a 16Gb tablet if they cannot remove it. We were both laughing...
You can let it ring, from that option maybe you can choose which one. When you know which one rings and which doesn't helps you in choosing the one to wipe?
Will it ring on a Wifi device? I tried and nothing happens...
Yes it works on WiFi models.
I tried on both devices. On one tablet I get this message:
If "Remote Controls" is deactivatied or you didn't allow "Google's Location Service", the use of this feature is restricted.
Where can I enable the Remote Controls feature? Google Location is enabled.
On the other tablet, nothing happens... it sits there spinning and it does not connect. So I presume that is the returned tablet. When I try to wipe it, nothing happens since it cannot connect to device. How wonderful.

I don't have that option on my Wifi tablet. Thanks for your help, though.
I guess I will have forever 2 tablets listed...
The thing is: it does not work with Google Location enabled... so I cannot ring my current tablet either.

First I find my Swiftkey generates an error message at boot after KitKat update...
Now I try finding directions on my phone and then press the button for directions and get the below error.
I'm starting to not like this KitKat update. Can anyone please test by searching for directions to... McDonalds or anywhere and see if yours generate the same error?
When you go to location settings... there are no settings for high accuracy or device only.
Thanks.

Did you actually check your GPS settings?
KitKat has multiple location settings (device only, low power, etc). You may be set to low power which will give you that error.
I'd get it all the time in KK Roms when I'd travel since I leave it on low power until I need maps.
Thanks. I got frustrated and wiped my phone again since I didnt have much on it from last night and when using map it gave me the error message.
But somehow after reading your message I went into location setting and it was set to high frequency and when I loaded the map app it worked!
I don't know how it changed to high frequency... there is no bullet to activate it. Frustrating but at least it's working.

I think there's something that asks you when you first launch the new ROM and the default is low power mode.

Update on the nav... it wasnt until later in the evening where I found the button to change to high frequency... you go to settings > location section and for some reason wasnt apparent to me before that you can press "Mode" at the top to change. I thought it was just a label and not a button that drills down.

I keep seeing people call it "high frequency", r u sure not mistaken with "high accuracy"
KK has combined Android location and Google location access, so you have to go in there, tap on the seem-to-be-gray-out button and change it to whatever you like. There are 3 options there. Explore it!
Surprisingly enough I could not find this issue when using the search function. (maybe it is my search capabilities )
Just started using my S5 last week. Now when I touch the home button I get the message to use touchwiz-start.
When I press always (picture says "altijd") it looks like it does not safe this default.

It works for an hour or so, and then it is reset so I get this message again when I press the home button.
Searching for this it looks like a lot of people have this issue, but I do not see a working resolution.

Give this a try
Settings > Applications > Application Manager scroll across the screen to All, then scroll down to Touchwiz, you will see Touchwiz Home Easy and Touchwiz Home, check in both apps and if the options are not grayed out tap clear Cache and Clear Defaults, don’t clear Data as that will wipe home screen shortcuts and set up.
Press the back button to get to your Settings > Application screen and tap Default Applications then tap Home and Select Touchwiz Home, once selected press the back button twice to get to the Settings > Application screen then press and hold the Power button and select Restart.
If its cleared all the default data and reset it then your phone should boot into the default Touchwiz home screen, this should work, if it doesn’t then you have an app or something that is causing it so look at what you have updated or installed recently.

Well actually this triggered me to analyse some recent updates I did, and then I saw one app where somebody reported that it was trying to install itself as a touchwizz app. I deinstalled it et voila, problem solved.
I notified the creator of the app that the recent update he delivered is causing this problem.
So thanks for your input, it triggered me to look a bit deeper into the installed apps and solve this problem.

Hi,
So I am trying to setup my note 4 to be on GPS only mode all the time. But everytime I turn off and turn on location, it goes back to High accuracy mode.
How do I make it stick to GPS only mode?
Thanks.

This is "normal." Every time you turn location on, it defaults to high accuracy and you must change the settings to power saving. If you turn location off and on again, it will default again.
I hate it too. It's annoying as heck, but it's a stupid Android problem and not the Note 4. My old phone did it on Kitkat too, and it was an LG.
The good news is that you can get to the location settings quickly by holding the location toggle in the quick settings pull down. Unfortunately, you'll have to go to the settings everyone you turn location on, or just keep location on or off.
My phone isn't really rootable, but MAYBE there's some sort of trick you can do if rooted. If so, I hope someone can help you more.

same issue on my s5 and its damn annoying.
I posted a request in apps section to see if a dev can make a xposed module to fix it, but I am going to see if I can fix with tasker, as tasker can do cool things like toggle settings after a mode is activated.
Go into Settings -> Location and you be able to adjust the GPS connection settings there.

that only works until you disable it, then it changes again when turning back on
Just came across this INSANITY, think it's because I installed (and promptly uninstalled!) the weather.com app. It changed the settings, I'll try with clearing the cache:
Code:
https://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-note-3/502397-how-do-i-stop-my-location-mode-changing-high-accuracy.html
Why isn't this on the Android web site and first result in Google. It's like they WANT everyone to suffer. I can't rage here, but believe me I'm cussing right now.
Genius, got it!.. It was one of the Google apps!!
Rebooted to Safe Mode (probably irrelevant ) & cleared the data - on several Google services, dunno which is the culprit - and voila!
On Reboot, switching Location back on presented me with the dialog to NOT have High accuracy; yes, lol!
Going to try and add that screenshot to the post here. =)

Well, this is officially the stupidest thing Google/Android have ever done. And it's been around for a while, as I see. It is still there on Marshmallow ... how fantastic. Yep, they do wanna troll you and own you ... that we get.
Here's a possible fix for rooted phones - https://csullender.com/blog/2014/01/26/automatic-high-accuracy-android-location/ just revert the procedure somewhat and make sure that Tasker tells Maps (or whatever nav app you use) to default to GPS off which is “battery saving” mode in Secure Settings.
This is insanely retarded ...
I have US Cellular XT1768 running Resurrection Remix. I often get the nag posted below when listening to music at the health club...usually fumbling around trying to switch tracks...I think is when it happens. Sometimes the google chick even talks to me saying that I can use my voice to perform certain actions. Getting her to shut up is sometimes a hassle, plus she overrides my tunes! I've been on RR for quite a while, but I remember the same thing happening with the stock ROM as well. Is there a way to disable the Google nag, and/or remove the "feature"?
Thanks!

Sounds like your headphones are accessing the home button. I have 1 headset that does that.
Why would that happen? The headphones are plain ear buds...no attached microphone., volume buttons, or anything for that matter.

The headphone jack has three inputs though. Something may be touching it. It happens. You can go into settings for the Google app and disable the hesdset recognition. It may help. Google app -
Settings/voice/hands free . Haven't tried it myself

Madbat is right, the same thing happens when I'm hard wired to the Aux input in my car, and that jack only has two bands on it.
It seems to be Google Assistant/Spy/Tracker being activated. The only way I've found to get rid of the accidental activating is to disable Assistant completely, which I wanted to do anway.
The setting is actually kinda hidden...
On Nougat, at least: Settings... Google... Search... Settings (under Google Assistant)... (then, if you haven't done so already: ) click thru the next two screens with 'No Thanks' or 'No' or 'Continue' or whatever.... now you are in yet another 'Settings' screen.... then, under Devices, click Phone.... there is the setting you need to disable Assistant.
This worked for me, anyway.
HTH
@beachfl
Thanks! Found the setting and turned it off. Hopefully it takes care of the issue.
Well, there has to be more to it than the Google settings because the damn nag keeps popping up. I've now resorted to disabling all notifications from the Google app. I'll see if that stops it!
