Ubuntu Touch Port to ZTE ZMax - ZTE ZMAX Questions & Answers

I know this phablet was just released, but I'd like to see Ubuntu Touch on it, since I just bought one.

Yes definitely, root achieved, permroot thanks to jcase and temp root using kingroot.

perm root achieved, what to mod in build.prop

Now that a group of awesome devs gave us root, what would be some good build.prop mods for better signal/data?

Attempting to root

Picked up a mytouch for 50 bucks, trying to root it the same way I did mine, I placed the root folder on sd card, temp rooted through visionary and entered commands in terminal emulator, when I restart S is still on?

You have Gingerbread, 2.3.4. You can't root it this way.
Read Glacier Wiki, section "Root", subsection "Gingerbread". Link in my signature.
Hmmm I forgot about that, makes sense I rooted mine when it was fairly new and no update, thank you

What I did, was I downgraded my MyTouch and then rooted through ADB with gfree. I can give you the link to the guide if you want
You've gotta downgrade back to stock with the pd15img.zip file. Then u can begin the root process. I suggest using the ultimate s off thread in the development forums.

[Q] What should I know before rooting and how to do it

Hello All,
I have a Desire Z ... I was looking forward to root it and read about applications that root the device. But nothing works. super1click and z4root, none worked.
I want to know how to do it and what should I know before I root.

Really stoked to see a tool that uses a GUI (Not that Matt's command line hasn't been great!). I would most like to see the options to unroot/restore included.
Thanks for the time and efforts Darb!
The Root and Bootloader unlock worked fine with no issues.I don't have the SDK or Fastboot installed on this computer so I had to use alternate methods. Thanks for the excellent work!
I'm guessing this is for the XT925? You probably should mention that just to be safe.

No, this is universal. The only thing that is specific to XT925 or XT926 is the recovery flasher. So I have included images for both.
Also, it has fastboot included so the only thing you need to install yourself is the Motorola drivers.

I'll have a look tonight after work to see if I can make an unroot tool. I believe it is as easy as uninstalling superuser apk and removing SU binary. If that's all I have to do then I'll upload a new version tonight.

Unroot added.
It pushes "unroot.sh" to your sdcard then makes that file exacutable, then runs it.
that file is.
Code:
rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
rm /system/bin/su
rm /system/xbin/busybox
Removes all root enabling files. I have not tested this as I do not want to lose root.
Will this work on 4.1.2?

That will not remove every possible version of the root files, or even half of possible su binary locations.
If you want to unroot easily you can fastboot, or see my app on Google Play.

I know it doesn't remove all possible versions of root. But it will remove the version that this app installs.
And only time you loose all your data is with a flash/wipe correct? And this does not automatically wipe?

Sorry if I am wasting people's time and if these are things I should be searching for in the forums... but here I go. You mean to tell me in the past few months since I have surfed xda there has been a way to unlock the bootloader on the XT926 (Verizon) version of our beloved RAZR HDs?? And that 4.1.2 is now rootable?? What rock have I been living under... I have to stop taking vacas from the site news!
Thanks to all the devs who worked tirelessly on the above tasks in my post and in this whole thread!
