Really stoked to see a tool that uses a GUI (Not that Matt's command line hasn't been great!). I would most like to see the options to unroot/restore included.
Thanks for the time and efforts Darb!

The Root and Bootloader unlock worked fine with no issues.I don't have the SDK or Fastboot installed on this computer so I had to use alternate methods. Thanks for the excellent work!

I'm guessing this is for the XT925? You probably should mention that just to be safe.

No, this is universal. The only thing that is specific to XT925 or XT926 is the recovery flasher. So I have included images for both.
Also, it has fastboot included so the only thing you need to install yourself is the Motorola drivers.

I'll have a look tonight after work to see if I can make an unroot tool. I believe it is as easy as uninstalling superuser apk and removing SU binary. If that's all I have to do then I'll upload a new version tonight.

Unroot added.
It pushes "unroot.sh" to your sdcard then makes that file exacutable, then runs it.
that file is.
Code:
rm /system/app/Superuser.apk
rm /system/bin/su
rm /system/xbin/busybox
Removes all root enabling files. I have not tested this as I do not want to lose root.

Will this work on 4.1.2?

That will not remove every possible version of the root files, or even half of possible su binary locations.
If you want to unroot easily you can fastboot, or see my app on Google Play.

I know it doesn't remove all possible versions of root. But it will remove the version that this app installs.

And only time you loose all your data is with a flash/wipe correct? And this does not automatically wipe?

Any time you get an OTA update, you have to re-root. Just do the same root process you did before to get root and you'll be fine again.

Should be able to use adb commands. Battery pull, then try again? Not sure, assuming you rooted from your computer, adb should be set up correctly, but now you can't use adb? But if you didn't use that computer to root then just need to follow the steps to set it up

Does unrooting the phone actually let you run the update because currently I am not able to run the update successfully and I am rooted. (I had removed some stock apks but have since replaced them all accept for the need for speed apk)
Also to unroot your self just delete superuser.apk?

how to root a droid x 2.2
I have tried many rooting methods and I found Z4root 1.3.apk to be the fastest and easiest way to root. If and when you use this app it starts looping and doesn't finish you simply perform a battery pull and retry the permanent root using z4root 1.3 again and it will work the second time. You may need to try a third time but in rare cases.
sorry for the super late reply. Yeah I mean like a Rom.

Why do people ask that? Once you root, you can have ANY version of stock rom. Or run less stock roms. It's all win.No, you shouldn't recieve OTA updates once you've flashed. But root users will have whatevers pushed OTA long beforehand. Plus you can over/underclock, screen capture, do backups, and run RealHDMI with root.

[HOWTO] Root for stock HC3.1

This tool installs su and superuser.apk for stock HC 3.1 and HC 3.01
As the old root method does not work anymore I created this new tool.
How to root
1. Goto Settings->Applications and enable "Unkown sources"
2. Download the attached APK file
3. Copy the file to your Iconia
4. Install the APK & start the tool
5. Click "root"
6. Enjoy
How to unroot
1. Start the tool & click "unroot"
NOTE
- By clicking root, you agree that you do this at your own risk. The tool will uninstall any previous installed superuser.apk.
Thanks
@ChainsDD for superuser.apk and su
@Acer for this buggy tool
Changelog
1.3.0:
- Also remove any "su" folder from /system/bin and /system/xbin .
1.2.0:
- Remove su from /system/bin and /system/xbin before rooting. This should fix the issues when someone installed the 3.1 OTA without unrooting the device before.
1.1.0:
- Add support for HC3.0
1.0.0:
- Initial version
!!! Use at your own risk !!!

Lost Root after New ROM install

Ok, so... I'm not new to rooting, but i AM new to rooting a nexus 7.
I had it all rooted and installed Baked's new ROM, and it gave me superuser permission when I booted into the OS the first time.. but then I restarted the nexus and bam. root was gone, superuser no longer worked... had to reload my backup of my original rom, root is back again.
I'm running CWM touch as recovery (latest update) had OTA voodoo rootkeeper (which won't help though because its a fresh install right?)
Can anyone tell me what is going on? I'm a bit lost... usually when you root. You are rooted. period. This is a new game to me.
Use this program to root it again mate:

Just choose custom ROM for any non official ROM's.

update youre superuser or supersu app. i suggest you get the supersu app from the market since superuser is a bit buggy on jelly bean. open the supersu app, itll ask to update the binaries, do it. no need wasting your time "rerooting".
No worries, glad I could help Unfortunately, I've not ventured into the different ROM's yet. Should really....... So I can't recommend any. Sorry Though I do like the look of the ones that have the real tablet UI, might try one of them in a few days.....

Thanks for responding. I really appreciate it. So if I have a phone with 98.18.78 that is locked (I know I won't be able to unlock it), do I follow this guide to root the phone? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2379833
I am a little confused about your Rom Manager post. Is that used for flashing a Photon Q recovery that can then flash TWRP/CWM and/or ROMs? Is this possible even is I am locked on my BL?
Should I root using your guide, Voodoo protect/unroot, update OTA (still having stock recovery), and then restore root? Should I have Voodoo installed on my SDCard rather than on the phone? Thanks for all your help!

You did go here first?
The rom mgr post is only good for you as to the steps on voodoo as you are locked.
Yes voodoo on you sd is nice. Be sure to be on a full bloat backup when you take the ota. No SS bootstrap allowed.
