What to test/look out for on my new phone?! - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Will be getting my Note 4 later this week and wanted to ask if there were anything I should be keeping an eye out for. Reading the general forums it seems common issues with Note 4 would be:
1) making sure the s-pen works across the entire screen (some are unresponsive, will test by using thin pen and drawing across screen, then change to fat pen and rinse/repeat?)
2) color tone different across white screen (will go to about:blank in Internet browser to see if there is any obvious difference)
3) I will give the gap one glance and forget about it unless it is... dramatically obvious...
Other functions will have to give Samsung the benefit of the doubt (e.g. sensors / camera).
TIA and hope the responses can help other users.

Type *#0*# on your keypad and go through each menu to test your device. Should be good enough to detect something wrong.

Thanks, what usually happens when you get here? Never done it before.
Anything else from current owners?

Thanks a lot! These codes will be fun to try, probably do not need to do all the hardware tests though, just the common functionality ones.

No idea what it's called. But looks like it resizes the phone's usable area for one handed use. VERY cool, nice find!

hi , take a look at this link and read relevant article and take note of picture ......
My guess is its not Note 3 ?/ ( in video) or that feature comes from a device '"Vivo Xplay " a android phone ,also 5.7 inch screen ??
http://phandroid.com/2013/05/07/vivo-xplay-android-phone/
I read a while back about this feature , here on Xda , about it.The feature is called "Free Touch '
i have seen some sort of custom ROM read this thread for info ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2344238
I might be wrong but take a look
good luck
In the instruction manual that was recently posted, it does say there is a setting for one handed operation (page 50 of the manual). There's no diagram so it may or may not be similar to this feature, but one handed operation is included in some form on the Note 3.

hi,
i also think you are correct ,that the Note 3 could have adopted this type of function( one handed function)
I have read the Note 3 manual and yes if you look at wording etc( on page 50) it seems like
they implemented similar feature, than what the Vivo Xplay had ?
If so, i give it a thumbs up, as i was after this "Free Touch '"feature when i first saw it ..interesting !
That guy totally wasted our time, he didn't show how it works in that "windowed" mode...
Love the idea, I have to use phone with one hand all the time and with my short fingers it's practically impossible reach far corners, this would be absolutely perfect.
Can someone confirm this existing on N3?
P.S.
It's definitively N3 (or something faking it), Vivo Xplay doesn't have middle hardware button.
hi ,
yes on Note2(for those who don't have Note2 ) presently only have a few one handed features
(keyboard ,dailer caculator and these apps ,you can only move left or right side off screen, see attached)
So i think Samsung, must have added " these " extra features..!!
Can anybody confirm it ?
edit .. post note
i see NZtechfreak confirms it in his post summary " So I had half a weekend to play with the Note 3, what did I think?"

Verizon Test Menu G2

This is not a secret for most phones but if you type
##PROGRAM980 into the dialer and code 000000 you get a hidden menu. It doesn't seem to do anything good unless someone can clarify DO NOT DO ANYTHING!!!
ha under device security it shows that it's rooted. wonder if that's pulling from the same flag that shows rooted in the menu

Most variants talk about a #*3646#800 or something like that to access their hidden menu, where the 800 is the model number. Many people have said that doesn't work for the VZW variant, though.
Are there editable fields for your method here? If so, what can be changed?
I'm not sure. I found this code for other version lg s and I put in our model number and it worked.

That code is the the LG hidden menu. The apk for that was not included in the vzw variant. There id a thread where is has been pulled from an AT&T device, it then can be side loaded and works with adb but not through the dialer. The hidden menu is the op is a vzw hidden menu and doesn't really contain much info or really anything useful for an average user.

Lolz dude non offense but your coming to the att note 3 board to talk about a Chinese knock off clone? And your actually surprised that some knock off features aren't included or functioning? Lol
Sorry man not trying to be a jerk but you should have known when you ordered it that you were taking a long shot when 99% of the clone ads are full of lies and misrepresentations.
Good luck but I'm guessing you won't find much support or help in this board jmo of course

this is not a place for your phone. you will have to search else where

To my knowledge there are no fake phone forums on xda. You will need to do a google search to find what you want. You wont find anything here for it. Good luck

[Q] S-Pen Formula Match

I have noticed how all the previous galaxy notes have had the formla match function, where you write a formula and it gives you the answer by using wolfram alpha, either in the S-Finder or the S-note, however ive realised, theyve removed the S-Finder in the note 4 and the formula function isnt in the S-Note, is it somewhere wher i cant find it or have the removed the feature? :crying:
I think I've seen it inside the calculator application on the Note 4.
Try hovering over the calculator's input field with the S-Pen and click on the button for the handwriting field.
Can't test it though as I haven't gotten my Note 4 yet.
Thanks

I've never used the feature you are talking about, but after doing some looking around, I found a button that transforms your writing into a formula. Haven't been able to get it to solve anything though.

I dont know, i dont really see why they removed it in the first place. the most common answer ive seen is that its in the calculator, il check that the next time i use it. If they have removed it, theres only one way you can get it, but i dont know if thats capable of handwriting recognition, only one way to find out and thts to wait and find out.
I cchecked

you can enable "force long display" to always open apps in 18:9 screen ratio.
ps: this will disable the app scaling feature as it'll always be 18:9..
there are other usefull stuff too like disabling LDB app which will free up some ram (about 100 mb). and other stuff..

I still don't quite understand the inner workings of how LG makes the app scaling work. If you switched DPI to <500 via adb it basically stops working, BUT so far I've not seen one app with weird graphics, even netflix: all i have to do is press the maximize button a second time when the video is playing full screen and the black bars go away.

Got no clue on Verizon, I'm presuming you tried *#546368#*988# - might work if you hadn't, and the service menu might be the same even though there's a different carrier.

No, I have not yet tried because no one said it works for Verizon. So, I just enter them to my dial pad? or somewhere else?
